FS

From what I've read he's flying up draft boards.

5'11/6'0 195-200lbs ...4.4-4.55 speed

From what I read the guy is a tackling machine. Apparently excellent character as well

58 Tackles, 4INT's (1 TD), 4 TFL's

and his INT against Buffalo was in the endzone and saved the game 34-28.

I haven't heard of him either but I'm going to have to try to download some WMU Games now.

fixed it for you. Gibson is a great route runner with great athleticism. I knew he wouldn't go out last year, but probably would have ended up in that surge of WRs in the 2nd last year.

Glad to hear it, he's a guy worth considering. Although I had Corvey Irvin penciled in as a very late round guy for the Colts, he might go earlier now giving this opportunity to additional impress scouts and coaches. Jeff Owens' injury opened up some PT for him this season.

Good point, SK.

Other than the seven guys who are in all likelihood for-sure invites:

- Evander Hood
- Peria Jerry
- Fili Moala
- BJ Raji
- Darryl Richard
- Terrence Taylor
- Vance Walker

it's almost a toss-up afterwards, those guys scream Shrine Game more than Senior Bowl. Irvin managed to work himself into one of the few remaining spots, he certainly needs it as a JUCO transfer with one year of strong PT at Georgia. Plus you never know if one of those seven might not show up, for injury recovery or other reason.

TEAM SOURCES confirmed the Senior Bowl has asked White and cornerback Ellis Lankster to play in the game Jan. 24 in Mobile, Ala. Lankster is from Whistler, Ala., and White is from Daphne, Ala.

no link yet, story coming shortly; surprised olb mortty ivy didnt get selected

lankster is pretty good; he would have started last year, but got in legal trouble and was in rods doghouse the whole year

lankster is 5'10 190 lbs; by far our best cb

was a juco all-american punt returner, and honorable mention cb; for some reason, he could not field a punt this year, and was benched a couple games ago (on pr only)

he also does kick returners

Hey everyone, I don't usually post on these things. But I actually live in the area where the Senior Bowl is. I work it every year I'm a sports photographer. And I would say that it's not worth it to stay at the Riverview, they use to let people come in and hang out with the players, now unless you're media they won't. Even if you have a room. But if anyone is going, let me know, I'll be on the coaches sideline, small girl, pass and all that.

Would the opposite then help in the case of James Davis? He showed a genuine love for Bowden when he broke down in tears after learning that Bowden was gone. I really started to like Davis after seeing that. Is something like that a positive that scouts will take into account when evaluating a player?

4 Alabama players are going

QB John Parker Wilson
TE Travis McCall
DB Rashard Johnson
C Antoine Caldwell

Wow, Travis McCall is the early leader for this year's "What Were They Thinking" invite...

I guess that's the benefit of going to BAMA.

Oh man, there are twenty other senior tight ends I'd rather see get invites.

If he played at Utah and not Alabama there is no way he'd get an invite.

Too bad the Lions won't have a coaching staff in place in time to take part in this.

Last time we had the chance Rod Marinelli opted out to have hip surgery. Where is that so-called dedication you claim to haveto football, Mr. Marinara?

It always boggles my mind when teams pass on the opportunity to coach the Senior Bowl.

It's such an advantage to see 100 of the top prospects up close and personal in meetings, the film room, practices, etc. for an entire week.

Jeff Fisher coached the senior bowl and got to see Jay Cutler up close. We ended up taking Vince Young. Damn Bud Adams.

I've never seen a QB take snaps as a WR if they are invited as a QB. Even Michael Robinson didn't, and he plays receiver now. Anyway does anyone else want to meet up?

Michael Robinson plays Running back/Full back.

Scott Wright

I think she meant at the Senior Bowl. And that's true, Robinson only played quarterback in Mobile, although he ran the ball a ton.

It doesn't even make sense. Why would they invite someone as a QB to only put them at WR?

It doesn't even make sense. Why would they invite someone as a QB to only put them at WR?

To give teams a chance to see if he can run routes or catch the ball.

It's what happened with Matt Jones if I recall correctly.

melindabear
12-15-2008, 06:26 PM
Matt Jones was invited as a WR not a QB the QBs that year were David Greene, Jason Campbell, Brock Berlin, Kyle Orton, Charlie Frye, and Dan Orvolsky ( i know i didn't spell that right)

I want to say Robinson practiced at quarterback only the first few days until finally acquiescing to play other positions on Friday or so. I think that's what happened, someone correct me if they recall better.

melindabear
12-15-2008, 08:09 PM
What happened with Robinson, is that he actually was there as a QB. And played as a QB, but more of a running QB than a passing QB. They won't actually switch their postions after they are invited. But they will invite say Matt Jones as a WR instead of a QB if he knows he wants to switch. They won't let a player play two positions as that would take away from the other players that are there. That's why they have a set number of each position invited.

If Pat White was invited to play QB it is just wrong. He is taking a spot away from a player who could actually play QB in the NFL. Also there wouldn't be a showcase for teams that want to draft him as a QB. The QBS should be Bomar, Brandstater, Harrell, Cantwell, Harper, Painter

melindabear
12-15-2008, 10:29 PM
Yeah but honestly the Senior bowl does pick the best sometimes. But it was like when they invited Chris Leak. He was there because he won the national title. And Pat White was invited because he's from Daphne which is 20 minutes away from Mobile. I love the Senior Bowl and going every year, but sometimes they just don't pick the best players, the pick the ones that will sell tickets.

Scott Wright
12-15-2008, 11:40 PM
I guess I'd be shocked if Pat White didn't get some work at wide receiver at the Senior Bowl.

If he insists on only being considered as a quarterback he is a late round pick. At best.

melindabear
12-16-2008, 12:03 AM
They have never worked someone in two positions before. That's why they have set positions on who goes and how many of each position. To have one person as two positions would be like giving someone two chances and for some reason they refuse to do that. I guess they figure it would take away from others that are there. They're surprisingly picky. But Vic Knight use to take care of all that, and he's gone this year, they've changed a few things this year already. So we'll see.

Add Cullen Harper, James Davis and Michael Hamlin to the roster:

http://www.thestate.com/sports/story/622754.html

I am a big fan of Davis so it will be fun to see him there but Harper is the really intriguing guy. If he has a good week he can put himself back in contention for the top senior quarterback slot.

Geo
12-16-2008, 10:50 AM
Glad to hear those three players are in.

I think too much was/is made about Harper's comments on Bowden, and the guy was playing hurt behind a bad offensive line (same deal here with Davis) this season. Bowden got exactly what he deserved, and a number of players have shown support for the new coach Sweeney I think his name is.

Looking forward to seeing Hamlin on the defensive side of the ball.

Pat White has been one of the most efficient QBs in the nation over the course of his career. He's one of the best players in Big East history. His passing numbers are far better than all the QB to WR transitions people are comparing him to.

To say that he doesn't deserve a spot is riidiculous. He should get booted for someone who got benched like Cullen Harper, or a guy who was a one year starter and not even that impressive in that 1 year in Hunter Cantwell? In fact a guy who threw as many picks as TDs this year. Rhet Bhomar the OU reject? Brandstater, who the hell is that? A guy who put up pedestrian numbers at Fresno State.

Pat White deserves a shot to play QB in the Senior Bowl period. Guys like Anthony Morrelli got a chance for crying out loud

I know that Graham Harrell got an invite but hasn't actually accepted it yet. I wonder if he will, or if he'll do what others have done and accepted then back out at the last minute.

I love the Senior Bowl, the whole week of it to me is exciting. Even the walk-through day, I enjoy to a small degree. It's usually sunny which makes me think of spring and that only means that the NFL Draft and MLB season is just around the corner.

Anyway, I'm watching a few players really closely.

Graham Harrell heads that list. He may be a system QB but he does have a lot of good skills to work with unlike some guys like Kingsbury and Hodges. I like him but I am curious to see how he looks in terms of arm strength and dropping back. He could play himself into a Shaun Hill like career in terms of being a backup that can start. Then again, Harrell will take a bit more work than Hill. I also like JPW as a nice backup QB down the line, but nothing more than that.

Running Backs, no one really special (in my eyes) strikes me. Davis, I think is a beast and so is Ringer but odds are none of us will be shocked by a decent performance. Jeremiah Johnson intrigues me a bit. I'll have to keep tabs on him throughout the draft season.

Wideouts are good. There are many top talent guys that didn't have the best CFB careers out there. I think Williams is slightly overrated but I'm actually more interested to see Murray, Byrd and even Patrick Turner.

Skipping down the list, I like Ellis Lankster from WVU quite a bit. Some character issues, and only started one year in the Big East but there's some interesting versatility with him as a ST guy.

Thrilled to see him getting a chance. Palmer is pretty much an unknown but he is a great athlete who was pretty productive in his two years here. Scott any word on SS JaMarca Sanford or WR Mike Wallace?

I know Coffman is hurt (foot surgery). Not sure on the others.

Remember, we won't see the actual rosters until Sunday the 25th, which is the day before practices start. The list I am working off of is just the names they have announced so far and ones that have been widely reported by local papers. My list has 98 names on it so there are at least two more guys that we don't know about. I am also unsure of about five of the names on my list so there could be as many as seven more.

Here is my list of guys who I imagine got invites and may be going:

Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio St.
Clint Sintim, OLB, Virginia
Victor Harris, CB, Virginia Tech
Brian Robiskie, WR, Ohio St.
Eric Wood, C, Louisville
Patrick Chung, S, Oregon
Cornelius Lewis, OT, Tennessee St. (Heard Rumors but Couldn't Confirm)

Brian Robiskie will have a good opportunity to up his stock... he's a very good WR who was limited by the offense run at Ohio State.

Really hope Sintim is playing... the way people keep declaring, he could slide down to the Browns at 36 and make an immediate impact in Mangini's 3-4

People dog Vernon Gholston but he really didn't get much of an opportunity to make an impact. The Jets already had Calvin Pace and Bryan Thomas so they didn't need him to start right away and make a huge impact. If he had been on another team he might have had a half dozen sacks and other impact plays.

Macho Harris just seems like a guy who's stock will drop a lot if he goes to the Senior Bowl. His overly aggressive style and wanting to make a pick on every individual drill will have him baiting on double moves and quick cuts all practice week.

Okay, on my list now stands at 98 names and I feel good about them.

Let's band together in a Google-Fest and figure out the last two!

Here the most likely possibilities:

Malcolm Jenkins
Brian Robiskie
Travis Beckum (rumored)
Patrick Turner (rumored)
Jarrett Dillard (rumored)
Cornelius Lewis (rumored)

Based on the way the rosters broke down the past two years we are probably looking for either two wideouts or one wideout and one tight end.

I would love love love Gholston for the Colts, to replace Raheem Brock as the LDE who rotates with Robert Mathis and slides inside on passing downs.

But I don't think the Jets would be willing to trade him just yet, not after only one year.

I wouldn't write Gholston off yet and that's even considering how overrated I felt he was during the last time around. However, it should be observed that an athlete of his level should have displayed more football talent during the preseason and (in my opinion, at least) have seized more playing time than he got during the season.

You can say what you want about Calvin Pace and Bryan Thomas, but Gholston is a considerably better athlete than both and plays a position that tends to yield quicker results than most.

As much as I hate to disagree with you Scott, he did get some opportunities and just disappeared on the field. He was limited by the presence of Pace and Thomas but he got his chances. Not really. 8 or 4 per teams seems about on par for what they do every year. Keep in mind that Nic Harris could be getting some looks at LB as well. Last year's list; 7 true safeties and 1 SS/OLB hybrid (Woodyard) same as this year.

FS Castille, Simeon (Alabama)
FS Demps, Quintin (UTEP)
FS Griffin, Marcus (Texas)
FS DeCoud, Thomas (Cal)
SS Adams, Jamar (Michigan)
SS Zbikowski, Tom (Notre Dame)

On Movin' the Chains on Sirius yesterday, Tim Ryan and Pat Kirwan were saying they were talking to Malcolm Jenkins and James Laurinaitis. Apparently, both of them said they wouldn't be attending the senior bowl because Jim Tressell told them it wouldn't help them. Now Jenkins maybe, he's pretty solid in his draft position. But I think that's a huge mistake for JL.

He's already started to slide a bit IMO. Maybe not a ton, but a little. The other senior backers are getting a chance to showcase themselves against and alongside the top seniors in the country. And they keep their names fresh in peoples minds. Knowing OSU guys, he likely won't run at the combine either. So we probably won't really see him again until OSU's pro day on a fast track. Personally, I think it would be a terrible move for him to miss the senior bowl. When all ios said and done, I'm starting to seriously believe Laurinaitis won't go until the second round.

But he could also really help himself with a great showing. Personally, I think teams are starting to look more and more at a players competitive desire to play football and be the best. Imagine he goes and really stands out among the other backers.

Conversely, while I agree that he could tank, which would hurt him obviously, not going will hurt him at least a little IMO, especially when so many other top senior LB prospects will be participating. I don't think he's anywhere near secure enough in his spot among LB's or overall to be not going.

Well the QB's as a whole aren't real impressive, from what I've seen they rank as follows:

1. Bomar
2. Harrell
3. Harper
4. White
5. Wilson
6. Brown

That's just how they looked, not necessarily their pro status.

To answer your question about White, he hasn't done anything to make you say he's not a QB, but at the same time to think of his future at WR makes scouts not look at him as much of a QB prospect. If that makes any sense.

It makes perfect sense. Because the mindset of moving Pat White to WR is so strong, he's going to have to really shine as a passer to change their minds. He will probably have to perform as a top 2 QB if not #1 out of all of them to change their minds.

It may not be fair but that's life.

Richmond DE Lawrence Sidbury is a very interesting prospect. He was a terror in pass rush, displaying an instinctual feel and timing in his moves. Sidbury can get around the edge, or he can change direction and break in another direction, leaving his man clutching air. However, Sidbury was washed out in run blocking, and seemed to be on his heels whenever the running back was headed to his side of the field. Obviously there is money to be made as a pass rusher, and Sidbury is clearly a player on the rise for those skills, but to be an every down player he needs to improve his stoutness against the run. As it stands however he's made an impressive leap from Shrine week to Senior week, and he keeps rising.

this really sounds like Mark Anderson. Is this a fair comparison?

QB

Rhett Bomar was a bit off the mark and timid yesterday but showed off a very live arm today...I still love this kid.

Cullen Harper has probably looked the best thus far and I said in prior posts I would like to get him or Bomar in this draft.

RB

I would like to stand corrected about Andre brown Rb NC State...I earlier said he was a Cbuck clone...Wow am i wrong about that kid...He is more explosive and runs with much more authority then Correll Buckhalter ever did... The thing that really shocked me was how much wiggle he had...i mean he has some pretty damn good moves...I didn't see a whole lot more from Rb's yet

Quote:
I'd add Sheet, Purdue, to that list. He looked solid as a RB and is an excellent receiver out of the backfield. Adrian Foster looked soliod as well but fumbled a lot at Tennessee I hear.

TE
Brandon Pettigrew looks good and he will solidify his late first rd early second rd spot....However, the TE that really really stood out to me was a kid named Shawn Nelson from Southern Miss...this kids got game...he snatches the ball out of the air with very good hands, he looks fast as heck for a TE, he pancakes people with bone crunching blocks...I like this kid! i'm on the Shawn nelson bandwagon.

Quote:
I also liked Nelson but I think Pettigrew will go a lot higher than late 1st or early 2nd. He could easily go top 15 in this draft.

O-line

The first player I wanna talk about is William Beatty O-tackle from Connecticut...WOW does this kid look good...ridiculously quick feet, very long arms, has a good punch in the run game out of his stance, engages and eliminates defensive players quickly and with authority....Tell ya what guys, as much as I am not an O-linemen in rd 1 guy I will go on record right now saying I would absolutely draft this kid with our #28 pick in rd 1 and he will be a probowler by his 3rd season. if you haven't seen this kid tune in.

Quote:
I agree with you on Beatty, he could really move up draft boards into the 20-32 group.

At the center position I think we could be very very lucky...From what i have seen it's been very deep. I saw 4 guys that hands out stood out...Now we all know about Alex Mack and Max Unger, but Eric Wood from Louisville and Antoine Caldwell from Alabama...These guys all look technically sound and all have mean streaks and look to be in solid shape...No butterballs.

Wr
Brandon Gibson WR Washington St stood out to me...he comes out of his breaks very well, cuts on a dime, displays soft hands, good body control and has no problem catching a ball in traffic.

Quote:
Gibson looked good in one on one's but didn't do as well in 11 vs 11 drill.

Derrick Williams from Penn State also put on a clinic today. He looked very quick and very elusive after the catch.

Quote:
On the other hand Williams has dominated every DB covering him. Terrific feet enables him to make great cuts and he has the spead to go deep.

Quan Cosby is this years Eddie Royal...he looks quick, tough and displays good hands and excellent body control.

Quote:
He's only around 5'8" however so he will be limited in the pros.

DT

3 guys really stood out to me....Peria jerry(just overpowered people) , Evander hood(Whom I love and had a sickening spin move) but the guy that nobodys talking about that impressed the heck out of me is Corvey Irvin from Georgia...this kid is a Bulldog...literally...I love his up the field relentless leg drive collapsing the pocket.

Quote:
Those 3 looked good but I wouldn't leave Alex Magee of Purdue out of the equation. He has the best 1st step of all the DT's I saw and few OLmen could handle his speed.

DE

Robert Ayers is just puttiong on a clinic.

Quote:
Very true, I hear he has something like 4.3 speed, he destroyed most of the OT's who tried to block him. I also thought Kyle Moore of USC looked outstanding.

Thats all I really focused on thus far...the player that left the biggest impression on me thus far is LT William Beatty from Connecticut...I think is potential is off the charts, dude has the quickest feet i think i have ever seen at LT.

I'd add Clint Sintim DE/OLB, Cushing OLB, Zach Follett, Larry English and Marcus Freeman OLB to the group who looked solid yesterday. Also Alphonso Smith CB, Keenan Lewis CB. The other 2 USC players Maualuga and Matthews looked solid as well.
OG Andy Levitre played some OT and got beat badly in space. He's stickly an OG.
and Victor Harris CB.

some notes on what I have seen so far

Alphonso Smith played well.
Chip Vaughn also from wake looked good on a few reps I saw.
Patrick Chung is really underated. I think he is the best safety in the draft

I was really disappointed with alot of the wideouts. none of them are are crafty with their routes. After all I heard about Ramsees Barden, I was really disapointed. He looks slow and stiff. I thought there would be some receivers that would be uncoverable (Joaquin Iglasius), but I thought he was one of the worst.

There are alot of mixed opinions on Oher. I think he is better than D'Brickashaw Ferguson and no one had anything bad to say about him.

I was glad to see Peria Jerry tear it up. I thought alot more people would be talking about him after how dominant he was against texas tech.

DT/NT B.J. Raji looked the best of any of the players at his position in my opinion. The NC State RB Brown is a good college RB and I love the way he has the heart to run inside the tackles. I got to see him play quiet a bit being from here in NC and seeing him on local tv some. He plays alot bigger than he is.. He could be a nice mid round pick for someone.

Is there anywhere to watch this online. I think last year the NFL Network streamed it but it doesn't say whether they are doing this again.

I hope not, he's already 235, would'nt want him to play like a big 250 pound FB.

Come on Macho!

Did not get beat on his first drive, and made a nice play on special teams.

I'd say too one dimensional to be this year's Forte (and I think he's most likely a third rounder), but he could have definitely have an impact next year.

I'll quote myself again from the post that I made in DC's Falcons forum.

I didn't watch the entire game, but it didn't seem like B.J. Raji was as good as advertised. I didn't tape it, but I figured the Senior Bowl will be replayed some time this week so hopefully that's when I can get a better look at the other prospects. So anyways, I only noticed that Raji had a lot of trouble with his hand work... he couldn't really make "the" move on the interior linemen to get to the quarterback. To be fair, I didn't watch the entire game, like I said, so I'm not sure how well he did in the end.

But after this game, do some of you still think Raji is well out of reach for us? I know a lot of draft nuts had him securing a Top 15 spot after the Senior Bowl practices, but with what I've seen today, he didn't look like he deserved that spot.

Also, how did Louis Delmas look? I know we were really scouting him (according to Scott [Wright], he was one of the few players that we "interviewed" in the week of the Senior Bowl. I would love nothing more to see us draft B.J. Raji, Louis Delmas, and Marcus Freeman in the first three rounds of the draft. At this point, I'm not sure how realistic that is seeing that Raji's stock has been rising up to this point, Delmas' as well, and Freeman has always been a projected 2nd-3rd round type of prospect.

What do you guys think?

I don't know whether it was just me, but I thought this year's game was a lot less exciting or enthralling than in years past.

I think it was the lack of Star Power, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

I know there was quite a bit of scoring, but I was actually kind of bored at some points in the game. Kinda disappointing. :(

I really liked this year's Senior Bowl, the problem was how bad this crop of QBs were (such that Pat White looked like the best) and there weren't enough impact/first round DEs either.

What do you guys think?

If you were to just go by the game, Raji got handled nice by Green, the OG from Auburn. Mayock said at the end that Green would make a huge jump in his rankings and be no worse than #5 on his positional rankings. He was a 6th or 7th rounder before Senior Bowl week.
As for Raji, the practices are considered more important than the game since the rules limit how the defense can play. Many scouts and GM's head home before the game and base most of their judgment on the practices.
Mayock basically said that he was moving Delmas to the #1 Safety on his board. Still could be a little short of reaching round 1 but certainly will be at worst a high 2nd rounder.
Because of the rules limiting the defense, LB's who aren't allowed to blitz and must line up in a simply 4-3, they really have little opportunity to shine so I really have no idea where Freeman will fall in the draft. Tough call.
