View Full Version : ***Favorite songs of all time***
This thread is about your favorite songs of all time, the songs you just could listen to for hours and hours. Now if this thread gets moved to the "music" thread someone is going to get a major beat down. Because this is specifically about favorite songs and posting them, totally different issue than just random music conversation.
*Please post youtube clips of your favorite songs so people can get an idea or remember what it sounds like.

That's a great song. I would've included more 60's rock since that was the ish I grew up on but didn't want that to dominate my list.
I'm going through my gogol bordello play list and here's another great song of theirs Forces of Victory:

Mind if I ask why Sober over Stinkfist? Eulogy, H or Right in Two?
saw someone had stinkfist already. They're kinda 1A 1B for me so i just put Sober
as for the others, i love the lyrics for it as i've felt these ways many times:
"Why cant we not be sober? I just want to start this over.
Why cant we drink forever? I just want to start this over.
I am just a worthless liar. I am just an imbecile.
I will only complicate you. trust in me and fall as well.
I will find a center in you. I will chew it up and leave.
I will work to elevate you, just enough to bring you down."
but anything tool is gonna rate right up there for me

My Case for Eulogy:
Standing above the crowd,
he had a voice that was strong and loud
and I swallowed his facade cuz I'm so eager to identify
with someone above the ground,
someone who seemed to feel the same,
someone prepared to lead the way,
with someone who would die for me.
Will you?
Will you now?
Would you die for me?
Don't you ******' lie.
(Don't you step out of line! 3x)
Don't you ****** lie.
You've claimed all this time
that you would die for me.
Why then are you so surprised
when hear your own eulogy?
(He had alot to say.
He had alot of nothing to say. 2x)
Coome down.
Get off your ****** cross.
We need the ****** space
to nail the next fool martyr!
My case for Right in Two:
Angels on the sideline,
Baffled and confused.
Father blessed them all with reason.
And this is what they choose.
And this is what they choose...
Monkey killing monkey killing monkey
Over pieces of the ground.
Silly monkeys give them thumbs,
They forge a blade,
And where there's one
they're bound to divide it,
Right in two.
Right in two.
Electronica music anybody? I must be in the minority here.

AntoinCD: Love that acoustic guitar don’t ya, a little hippy/folksky style
tEk- self esteem – offspring totally agree
awfullyquiet- Where do you find these? Talk about obscure, I have not heard of one of these songs or musicians, thanks for posting them though it was interesting. Love the instrumentals I see…
Paul- love the Oasis pick Don’t Go Away, totally agree, great song.
Flat out shocked at the hippy like, 80’s to early 90’s music on here, what are the age of most of you again like early to late 30’s or 40’s? Flat out amazing there is not one Rage Against the Machine mention on here. I hope you guys are listening to others posts and favorite songs, that is the entire point here. No Avril love or Flyleaf, basically all my favorite songs outside of Oasis are no where to be found. Keep them coming though, interesting to see.
I love the acoustic guitar as much as the next guy, but some of these artists people have posted do not seem to be able to sing at all, and some sing as if you or I were singing. Guess it is all in who is listening.

I like Special K more myself but it's good to see someone else into placebo.
Maybe because Rage, Avril, and Flyleaf aren't that good. To each their own thoughIs that a joke? Yes to each their own, and sure say what you want to about Avril, most people do not get her music or realize her amazing voice. Even Flyleaf, they are not well known enough, but Rage Against the Machine, they are so far ahead of some of the bands on here. They revolutionized the rock and rap industry, their music is as powerful and intense as any that have been made.
Most songs on here are more hippy type, slower, older and less intense. Again I love acoustic and that sound but the singer and the pace they sing or what they sing is so important.
Everyone does have their own tastes though, and what you hear is what you hear. I could listen to Avril Lavigne all freaking day long, why, I do not know but I can and do. I have listened to her music for years now and it never gets bored. So yes cannot really argue because it is all on who is listening and what they find to be good music.
Like Piano Man, heard that song for the first time in full last week, now I love it. Why, I do not know I just like what it is singing about and the pace of it.

I like Tom Morello but Rap Rock makes baby Jesus cry
What I like is either really intense heavy metal music, with great load guitar play and intense lyrics with loud singing to the point of screaming. Thus why I adore Flyleaf, Lacey Mosley can flat out scream and scream wonderfully. I like that.
I also really like good acoustic love songs, about heart break, believing and love. Also like songs one can just zone out to that either have a great beat or a great story to them.
It is all about changing pitch though, being able to sing high, like really high and also really long. Having intensity in the music combined with the ability to go soft.
Really what I differ the most from what others have posted is the fact rarely and I mean rarely do people have female vocalists on their top songs list. Seriously girls, well the right girl can sing so much more beautifully than any guy. To me that is exactly what Avril does, and a few country female artists do as well.
To each their own obviously. I like things that are different and have a fresh sound, to me most of the songs on here have the exact same sound and are very similar. I am across the board...and not very underground, my most underground artist I like is Flyleaf and they are in a way very famous...haha

Rage isn't intense, rage is a semi heavy funk band. If you want to talk about lyrically powerful how bout tool? Or for Intensity some Symphonic Metal like Within Temptation or Nightwish, what about real metal like Necrophagist? If you want intense and Necrophagist doesn't do it for oyu than you don't want intense.
Rage is a good band but nothing they do is really extraordinary for me, Lyrics are good but there's better out there and the music's interesting but just fails to have the organized complexity of good metal. And they're unique sound which is largely the reason for the mindless rage adoration by belligerently drunk ignorant frat boys really falls short of fusion artists like Tom Waits, Gogol Bordello or Man Man.

And if you think this Gogol Bordello is badass, I am sorry too....but I will not rip on your music tastes but here we go, I would rather like a hot punk singer that is wildly popular all around the world some foreign version of Weird Al Yankovic. All of that aside, we like what we like, and done deal. Why insult the others likes or dislikes.
A few thoughts....
Nightwish: What is this, Final Fantasy 7? Video looks like it, sorry not my taste, too slow and no change of pitch.
Within Temptation: Angels- anything angels I am into, I have a collection of angel statues, shows promise but one she is not hot enough to be more famous, and two her lyrics are kind of soft to me.
Cradle Of Filth - Nymphetamine- trying to hard to be goth, and kind of weak singing flat out, hearing them live must really suck I would guess. Flyleaf is moderate Goth but more religious, this is just flat out Goth and no real into that hole thing.
Arch Enemy - We Will Rise - she appears hot, but wow she sounds like a man, yes I said I like screaming but singing screaming, not constant screaming. Screaming as a accent, not as the entire stupid song. Impressive, but sounds very fake, and again change your pitch beotch, get some variety.

Jesus christ, that is not punk. She can dress like punk but she's crappy teen pop wannabe-punk music. If you want punk listen to like Sex Pistols or The Clash or something not awful.
And why does how popular something is make a difference? Some of my favorite bands aren't known by a lot of people. Avril Lavigne isn't a good musical artist because her video on youtube has millions of views.
And you seem rather caught up in appearance. Which has nothing to do with music.

HAHA What the hell do I care, I like the music and will defend it, say what you want though does not really matter much to me. Hutz isn't hot but I don't see the connection between attractiveness and musical ability. Hutz has done an incredible job taking very ethnic and niched music and re-creating it in a way that americans can access and get into. It's really party have a good time music and along the way he his some good lyrics :smirk:
Hey bag on nightwish if you want but you mentioned quality singers, they're front woman was a former opera singer who could hit eight octaves she has the type of range that flyleaf girl can't even imagine. But she's not hot enough right?
I can't stand WT's lyrics, but I love her voice more than any other woman's on earth she just sings so fully if that makes sense.
Cradle of Filth isn't goth at all, unfortunately people seem to think Metal and especially dark metal is goth. Bauhaus is goth, good goth, but still goth. Gradle of FIlth is dark metal and while her voice really isn't impressive she's a nice compliment to him and his ability to scream at two different pitches simultaneously is just facinating.
You do know that there exists this genre known as metal where the most technical musicians go and in that genre the vocalist almost exclusively scream. Arch Enemy is a Metal band, I only included them because AG is f'in gorgeous and they're a good metal band. Figured you wouldn't like real metal though.

Hutz has done an incredible job taking very ethnic and niched music and re-creating it in a way that americans can access and get into. Gogol Bordello=badass Gypsy punk rock!
Don't be mad because you're spoonfed a healthy dose of MTV garbage. Don't forget to call in to TRL tomorrow!
Gogol Bordello is ******* awesome!
Ozzy, the reason most of the songs on here are old, is because lots of music nowadays isn't very good. The majority of older stuff (Led, Floyd, The Band, The Dead, Beatles, The Who, etc.) is great and you had to look to find something not that good, whereas today you have to look for good stuff. It's the total opposite. Virtually everything in MTV and all that **** is plain awful.

As for the hot comments, well guess what, being hot sells, period. If a singer can sing, but is not attractive, they will not sell as many records. It is basically a fact, and selling records means winning awards, and winning awards means good music? No, I do not agree, but face some of the facts.
And yes I guess one listens to the music of their generation, which is exactly what I have done. Still this is greatly interesting I must say...

Nope, not from overseas, I've seen Flyleaf live and they're a solid band, but really nothing extraordinary at all.
What facts you have yet to try and use your halfbrained logic to explain how being hot has anything to do with great music, record sales? Is that really how you're trying to justify your musical tastes? That's just embarassing
Unfortunately our generation is terrifically whinny and incompetent when it comes to logic and processing information if they're not hit in the face by it. So accordingly much of our generations music whinny, thoughtless and boring. Very few modern bands truly provide something worthwhile either lyrically or musically. Now I have a lot of newer 90s-2000s music on my list but that's because this is a favorites thread and not a greatest of all time thread because even I'll aknowledge that the overall level of music used to be much higher than it is right now.

I agree gentlemen in what you are saying, how good a female singer is has nothing to do with how attractive they are.
However, fact is, how attractive they are determines how popular they will be and how much they will sell. No one said that is how I determine my favorite singers, clearly it is all about the sound and the lyrics.
Madonna
Mariah Carey
Beyonce
Alicia Keys
Christina Aguilera
Britney Spears
All of these female artists sell because of their voice, sure but guess what they are all very attractive and if they were not they would not sell as much. That is my point.
I am not arguing over the fact music should mean more and be just about the music. But guess what it does not and the hot singers sell the most and are the most popular. And if you say success is making money and selling records, the attractive female singers will without question sell more.

As for the guy above how bought some Reid Speed, Angerfist, Rotterdam Terrorcore or even Sander Van Doorn if you wanna stick with your more mainstream electro instead of going into true DnB like RS or gabber like Angerfist and RTC.
I'm going to see Reid Speed coming up in December. I wouldn't consider her true DnB, since she plays a lot of breaks/electro/dubstep in addition to drum and bass. Try Spor if you like true DnB.

Yeah I know she's not pure DnB, I just had a hella of a good time at a show she was spinning where everyone else was either pure DnB or atleast DnB based. Her and Theo G where the only one's I can remember by name.
