News out of Diamondbacks camp is that they will be trying hard to get Randy Johnson and Orlando Hudson resigned, Adam Dunn being a close 3rd in priority. Unless Brandon Lyon is willing to take middle reliever money he is in all likelihood done in Arizona, as well as Juan Cruz. This could open up spots for young studs Daniel Schlereth(2008 1st round pick), Cesar Valdez or phenom Jarrod Parker(2007 1st round pick & top 20 MLB prospect)

Cincinnati Reds looking for an IF prospect/young ML'er in exchange for a team looking for veteran help with the bat or a middle of the rotation guy. The Reds are looking to build for the future without sacrificing too many wins in the process. They're putting a team out there to compete.

Huston Street on his way out

It seems that the A's have been shopping the former closer around and liked what they have heard, Ziegler and Devine look to be the best candidates for the soon to be unoccupied closer role.

ESPN's Jason Stark reports:
rumor out of Atlanta has the Braves looking at Lillibridge-Gwynn Jr. Swap with the Brewers which would give Atlanta a starting LF and potential leadoff hitter while giving the Brewers a potential 2nd Baseman and 8 hole hitter.
Rumor also has the Braves at 70M in their payroll with a 110M limit. so expect a big FA or 2 along the likes of Ben Sheets, CC Sabathia or even Mark Texeira to be in a Braves uniform next season.

Tigers decline option, pay Renteria $3 million buyout

DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers declined the option on shortstop Edgar Renteria's contract Thursday, choosing to give him a $3 million buyout instead of bringing him back at an $11 million salary.
Edgar Renteria

The Tigers previously announced plans to part ways with the 33-year-old Renteria, who hit .270 with 10 homers and 55 RBIs this season -- well off his career averages of .290 and 77 RBIs over 13 seasons in the majors.

Detroit acquired the five-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove shortstop shortly after the 2007 season from Atlanta for pitcher Jair Jurrjens and outfielder Gorkys Hernandez.

Detroit also rehired bullpen coach Jeff Jones, promoted Bruce Tanner to major league scout and outrighted the contracts of pitcher Gary Glover and catcher Dane Sardinha to Toledo.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

The Prince becoming King in a new City?

There's no secret that the Milwaukee Brewers' front office is putting first basemen out on the trade markey, but to what extent have any talks taken place?

"We have talked to a few clubs and have some rough draft offers on the table, but I don't feel that anything is close yet," GM Doug Melvin stated. "I think once we hit free agency and teams fill in some pieces and miss out on some others, then we'll get more action and talks will definitely heat up."

Melvin did make it known that if he does not get a deal that fits what he's looking for he'll gladly hold onto the young slugger.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports:

Kansas City has had discussions with multiple teams in regards to OF David DeJesus.Dejesus' contract makes him an attractive option for teams but GM Dayton Moore says he is still looking at all options.

ESPN's Pedro Gomez crawled out of Barry Bonds' azz long enough to give us an update on the Giants. He's reporting a handful of mock GMs have contacted the Giants about the availability of starters Matt Cain and Jonathan Sanchez. The Giants are believed to be fielding offers for either starter and are looking for attractive packages of minor leaguers.

Rumors w Jayson Stark

Atlanta, GA
Rumors out of Braves camp are that they are making big runs at Furcal, Teixeira, Ben Sheets and CC Sabathia. Sheets and Sabathia make big sense for a team currently lacking an ace. but Teixeira and Furcal coud be interesting should they both sign. Furcal at short, Escobar at 2nd, with Tex and Chipper on the corners could give the Braves a great offensive infield. And if they land btoh Sheets and Sabatha they will get 2 ace quality pitchers to go with Hudson creating the same effect they had when it was Maddux (Huddy) Glavine (Sabathia) and Smoltzie (Sheets)

Yankees retool for 2009 season!

New York (AP)- Only two days into free agency and the Yankees have made their splash by opening up their checkbook. Arguably the top two free agents on the market will both be in pinstripes next season. Lefty ace CC Sabathia will be joined by All Star first baseman Mark Teixeira when the Yankees open up their new ballpark next season. In addition the Yankees have brought back Andy Pettitte for another year and signed righty Derek Lowe as they strive for that 27th World Championship.

CC Sabathia's new contract will slightly top the contract Johan Santana signed last year, thus making him to highest paid pitcher in baseball. The final numbers were a six year deal for 144 million dollars. His annual salary of 24 million a year will top the roughly 23 million Santana makes per season.

As soon as the ink dried on Teixeira's seven year 161 million dollar contract, he immediately made it clear it will be an honor for him to play the same position for the same team that his childhood idol Don Mattingly played. His power bat is a huge upgrade to any lineup, but it was also his ability to switch hit that intrigued the Yankees. His ability to switch over to the right side should help against dominant lefty pitching, which the Yankees have struggled with the last few years. Mark's glove is not be overlooked either. Another area the Yankees have struggled in since Tino Martinez left.

Derek Lowe stated he is excited about pitching in the challenging AL East again, shortly after he signed his contract that will net him 12 million a year. And of course Andy Pettitte is excited to back not only to pitch in the new Yankee Stadium, but also to somewhat redeem himself after an up and down 2008 season.

The Yankees' payroll sits roughly at 216 million. It is quite amazing that after all these signings the payroll only increased 7 million dollars (which is equal to the amount spent buying out the contracts of Jason Giambi and Carl Pavano). Ownership doesn't consider this much of an increase at all, as the highest revenues in baseball are likely to nearly double with the new ballpark being completed for the 2009 season.

With the money spent these last two days by the Yankees, it is clear that they will not accept missing the playoffs two years in a row.
