Saw it on cnn. Thought it was crazy. This thing is awesome. It was born 3 weeks ago, and thankfully it lived.
The only thing that bothers me is the amount of flash photography... i'm surprised it's not scared.

LUCKY by name, lucky by nature - that's the case for Taronga Zoo's newest nursery edition, Monifa the pygmy hippo.

Born three weeks ago and unable to stand or feed herself, the piglet-sized hippo would have died within days, but for the intervention of dedicated zoo staff.

Hippo keepers Renae Zammit and Tracy Roberts have been living round-the clock with the 3.8kg infant.

The pair spent a fortnight sleeping with and hand-feeding Monifa - who's name means "I am lucky" in Nigerian.

The infant has now moved into her own pen and is ready to follow the footsteps of her father Timmy, the last pygmy hippo born at Taronga 23 years ago.

Born during the early hours of October 15, Monifa initially had to be patiently coerced into even trying to feed from a teated syringe. Ms Zammit and Ms Roberts spent alternate days working around the clock to keep her alive.

Pretty amazing seeing as how normal hippos are nearly 100 lbs as they exit the mother hippo's snatch.

Well this is a pygmy hippo so they are considerably smaller

This thread makes me think about how glad I'm going to be when I can go to the National Zoo for free again. San Diego Zoo, is free for me but costs my wife like 35 bucks to get in.

Yeah I understand that, my amazement comes from never knowing such a thing existed.

It's too bad it has to get bigger and turn into that prehistoric monster in the picture in a couple of years.

That would be cool to have one of those as a pet if it stayed at that size. Imagine being able to say that.

Once I get my federal funding I plan on engineering the creation of a Gorillanocerous. A gorilla with the armored hide and horn of a Rhinocerous would be the deadliest creature on Earth

I am going to go with that World Record grizzly bear:

http://www.southeasternoutdoors.com/outdoors/urban-legends/images/killer-grizzly-bear-2.jpg

"The bear measured 10-feet, 6-inches from nose to tail, and its front claws were three to four inches long. Based on the bear’s measurements, an Alaska master guide estimated the bear’s weight at 1,000 to 1,200 pounds."

With a hand cannon to the dome. Like that kid has. Kid obviously is a really good shot because you can't just a hit a wild hog anywhere and expect them to go down.

Tremors. That was easy

That movie was written by a guy stationed at 29 Palms in CA. I wouldn't be shocked if there were sand monsters out there. That place was crazy
