We have never lost to the Texans in franchise history, let's get that streak to 2-0.

If we can force turnovers in this game. We win, and the Texans have been very good at giving the ball away this season.

umphrey
12-03-2008, 01:19 PM
I think we'll win most games where we actually hold the other team under 25 points, so we just have to contain Andre Johnson and Slaton.

AJ is underrated and that's saying a lot (he gets a lot of credit) so even though our secondary has been playing great he scares me. Maybe he doesn't top 100 yards but it opens it up for consistent 6 yard gains in the short passing game and running game, AKA our kryptonite.

No mention yet of...... the return of the Batman. He dropped of a cliff after leaving, injuries/age obviously but was a great guy in GB if only he could have held onto the ball.

Should really be winning this game imo, the Texans are a decent team, but they are more than beatable and we have to win otherwise the playoff dream is over. Although as much as I'll be trying to watch this game on a stream and focus, I can't help but be into the Vikes game, just in the hope that they slip up.

Pack to win it 34-17

GB12

Brandon Chillar is out. I'm really ******* worried about that. Desmond Bishop will start at weakside linebacker, not good. Either Bishop or Poppinga will be in on nickel packages, really not good.

Picking up right were we left off last week.

GB12

well that was quick. God the defense is ****.
Starting defense week 1:
DE - Aaron Kampman
DT - Ryan Pickett
DT - Johnny Jolly
DE - Cullen Jenkins
SLB - Brady Poppinga
MLB - Nick Barnett
WLB - AJ Hawk
CB - Tramon Williams
CB - Al Harris
SS - Atari Bigby
FS - Nick Collins
CB - Charles Woodson

Starting Defense week 14:
DE - Aaron Kampman
DT - Ryan Pickett
DT - Johnny Jolly
DE - Michael Montgomery
SLB - Brady Poppinga
MLB - AJ Hawk
WLB - Desmond Bishop
CB - Al Harris

And that doesn't even show that Jeremy Thompson and Brandon Chillar, who would have started due to injuries, are also out.

Rodger's accuracy has been terrible in the second half of the season.

I'm really hoping he improves that next year, because just about every other category you can evaluate a QB in, he's been good or excellent in.

Edit: Also our new punter is awesome. He just has to learn to dodge defenders like Ryan and he can be our MVP

One of the features of having a left-footed punter is that returners aren't used to the different spin on the ball than what comes from a right-footed punter. That was evident when cornerback Tramon Williams dropped one of Kapinos' punts. Starting punt returner Will Blackmon motioned to Williams with his left foot, reminding him the spin was going to be different.

I wonder if that's why we got the turnover on the last punt

I take that back. His accuracy has sucked in the beginning of a lot of games. This one and other ones in recent memory. That is what he has to work on, starting the game stronger.

Tony Moll single handedly ruined this drive for us. Holding penalty, then misses Mario Williams jumping offsides, then allows him to bring pressure on the same play, then on the next play lets Mario get there.

why call that timeout there???

Let the clock run and see how the next play goes then use one. Now we waste a timeout and the Leach play happens and all the sudden they're at the 25 with 1:30 left instead of like 50 seconds and we have one less timeout.

I think Shaub throwing for 414 and Slaton going over 100 like everyone against the Packers killed us. Not to mention like 0-10 on 3rd downs, or 13565 more penalties (some pretty bad calls).

If the Texans wouldn't have coughed up the ball so much it would have and should have been alot worse.

EvilMonkey
12-07-2008, 03:32 PM
I think the sack and the offside killed us.

MM calling that stupid timeout with 1:45 left killed us. They're at the 2, run for no gain and it appears they might be content playing for overtime and he calls a ******* timeout. Basically signaling the Texans that they might as well take a shot at the first since if they get it now they have 1:30 to do whatever they want. I don't want MM or TT fired or anything, but McCarthy really makes some stupid little decisions every now and then.

Some notes I have about 5 players.

1. Jeremy Kapinos. His first punt looked like Derrick Frost was still our punter, but he was great after that. He even placed one inside the 5. Might not be a long term answer, but certainly better than Frost and good enough to finish out the season.

2. Grant topped 100. And looked good doing it. 104 yards, a touchdown, and 5.5 yards per carry. He looked like he did last year, especially on the tosses. All season long that toss was stopped before he got three yards, today he was taking them for solid gains and I think the 22 yarder was off of one.

3. On the flip side of that Brandon Jackson did not have a single carry. I mean with how well Grant played it wasn't necessary to get someone else involved, but you'd think that Jackson would be getting more playing time after how well he played last week. To not give him a single carry seems odd. And while I'm on the subject, Brandon Jackson has turned into a very solid player this season. After looking terrible last year, especially at the beginning, he has really turned it around. He's averaging 5.5 yards per carry on the season and has surprisingly been a good third down back. Last week when Grant was hurt and he got a chance to be the guy he went for 80 yards on 11 carries.

4. Tramon Williams got beat badly too many times today. He can be a starter for us and has been impressive in a number of other games this season, but he still could use some time to develop. He still made some big time plays by having both the interception and fumble recovery, but he gave up at least 110 of Kevin Walter's 146 yards, and was dragged across the field by Andre Davis.

5. Jarrett Bush has no use at all to our team anymore. I used to be ok with him still being on the team because he had been a good special teamer, but this year he has been horrible at that too. He hasn't made any big plays, and isn't making the tackles. He only has 7 tackles on the season and a couple of them came while playing defense.

ok, i had to read this thread to make sure it wasn't mentioned..but, i have to say it.

i really don't do this often, but the packers got f'd by a terrible non call in this game. on the pass play to leach that got the texans out of trouble, the refs missed a very obvious hold in the endzone. the o-lineman basically had kampman in a headlock from behind and it wasn't called. this would've resulted in a safety, and the ball back...and the win.

so, the 2008 packers are a bad call, an amazing catch, a coin flip and a missed field goal away from being 9-4 and having the division all but wrapped up.

I have no problems having Bush on the roster if he can be good at special teams and provide a last resort at CB and safety. If he loses his ST value he should be gone though. He's replaceable by a 5th round draft pick.

You can blame it on luck, but the truth is most of those games we blew so many opportunities and made so many mistakes that if we actually played consistently well like the good teams we wouldn't have been in those situations.

Titans game is an exception, I thought both teams played really well and whoever got the toss was going to win that game.

If its 4th quarter, close game and the other team has the ball, it's game over for us because they score every time. Our defense is the complete opposite of what it was last year.

I can't tell if you're sarcastic or not but...

Things went our way because of how we played last year. This year we aren't playing nearly as good of football. The Texans, we got so lucky with turnovers in that game that if we hadn't had so much luck it would have been a blowout.

The talent that we have would suggest that we are better then our record but we have not finshed games, so our play (which is what matters) says that we're a 5-8 team. I do understand that 4 of those games were very close and we could have won them but we didn't and good teams find ways to win close games which we have not been able to do.

That 22 yard toss play by the way was our only 3rd down conversion with 8 mins left in the game.
