View Full Version : The highlights of the season so far.

As far as the season has gone what are the highlights and turning points for NFL teams and players? These can be fan moments, franchise moments, television moments or whatever. As long as they are 2008 season related.
Tom Brady to me could be one of the biggest if not the biggest turning points for a NFL franchise this year. Brady being lost for the year blew the AFC wide open and especially the AFC East. Huge turning point to say the least.
Mario Williams showcasing his talent and gaining 3 sacks on the national spotlight of Monday Night Football. The 3 sacks got him his second double digit sack season in as many to he helped the Texans stiffle a struggling Jags franchise in route to their first Monday Night apperence and win. This was a personal favorite.
As a Bengal fan, the Giants game was the turning point of the season along with the circus that was the 2008 pre season. Carson was injured during the Giants game in which he lead his team to a comeback to take his severely undermanned squad into overtime against the Super Bowl champs. They did lose but that game marked a turning point for the downword spiral that was the Bengals, but then the injury was found in Carson's elbow and he hasn't been the same since. He did play in the Dallas game and he did play like his Pro-Bowl self, but the injury was too much and he has been shleved for the remained of the season.
Any favorites or big ones are much appreciated.

Cardinals was definitly a huge highlight, and as for the Cowboys I would put the Tony Romo injury, Roy Williams trade and Pacman Jones problems in these as well.

Titans making franchise history by going 10-0, and also the MNF win over the Colts who've dominated the division since '04.
Mike Singletary going full monty.
The Rod Marinelli post-game press conferences.
Al Davis's not-so-love letter to Lane Kiffin.

BOE, every time I open I thread and I see a post by you, which 99% of the time is ridiculous and in some way tied to KC, I want to punch myself in the face repeatedly . It honestly has gotten to the point where I can't stand anything you say and I generally avoid looking at gameday threads because of it. It's a complete shock to me that I am the first one to bring this up. I came in here with the intent of posting a response, trying to escape from this 40 page paper I have do, but it fled my mind when I saw your post. Please stop.
EDIT: And CutlerChris just took out that part regarding Tyler Thigpen.

Well sinc seeing the 2nd highlight live I would have to go with that one. That could be one of the most craziest turn of events I have ever witnessed. The Sage hit is just awesome even though I'm a Texan fan. I could just imgine how crazy you guys went when you saw that.
I remember how before that play, well actually the game, how the Sage the Rage should be the starter was all anyone who is a Texan fan discussed until that game...lol That play will live in infamy..haha

Also the Vince Young debacle. As aweful as that was, had it not happened I don't think you guys are where your at. Also, the Bears game in which Collins had his best game passing was a huge highlight in my view.
Also Chris Johnson's first game as a rookie. He showed that the pick by the Titans was more than worthy.

To add to that, the disgrace that was Scott Linahan's firing as well. Also the whole Mike Singleterry kicking Vernon Davis off the field thing. Maybe thats the lite Davis needed to get his passion going. He's played better ever since.

These are memorable moments:
Brett Favre trade,
Tom Brady injury,
Mike Singletary going ballistic,
Matt Ryan's first pass,
San Diego's just general failures (and Merriman injury),
Sage Rosenfels fumble,
Vince Young going crazy/Titans going 10-0,
the blown call by Ed H.,
the Wildcat,
Lane Kiffin being fired,
Steven Jackson's holdout,
Kurt Warner going for the MVP,
Ken Dorsey's first start tomorrow (<3),
Roy Williams trade,
Matt Cassel's back to back 400 yard games,
Brady Quinn and Jay Cutler's showdown

The Eagles playing to a tie with the Bengals. That could be the official beginning of the end of Donovan McNabb and Andy Reid. Not saying I'm a fan of the hatred for them both, but that game could be the turning point for the both of them. Plus it was the first tied game that has happened in I think 5 or 6 years.

Staying on Oakland for moment, the Al Davis press conference was horrendous and really bad, that was definitly a turning point for this orginization and the turning point is that it will get worse before it gets better. You guys better hope that Michael Crabtree does stay for his junior year, or Al Davis is taking him and not Michael Oher or Andre Smith.

Yeah. I'm not sure the press conference was a turning point, but it certainly underlined for the rest of the football world what most sane Oakland fans already knew. This organization is unmitigatedly ******.

Davis has caught 3 passes since the bye (TD, TD, and a 47 yard reception). Bad stats but he's only been targeted 7 times since the bye anyway. He did commit 2 dumb penalties last week against Buffalo too so who knows if hes learning anything.

It looked like the Singltary message got through to him, at least thats what it looks like from the outside. Maybe thats what he (Davis) needed.
I also think the 49ers vs Cards game in Arizona was a huge highlight for the struggling 49ers. It should give you guys confidence going forward that shows the fans they are certainly competitive and not nearly as bad as once thought. I was really impressed with the 49ers that game.

Jordy Nelson's first touchdown!
As far as on the field highlights this season:
Anquan Boldin's domination vs. Miami week 2.
To continue with Boldin.. the hit he took from Eric Smith.
Cadillac Williams returning to the field was good to see.
Eddie Royal's emergence week 1.
Aaron Rodgers' good and bad.

I'll say when Matt Ryan threw that 40 yard pass to Michael Jenkins with 7 seconds left in the game against the Bears, leaving 1 second left on the clock for a Jason Elam field goal and a 1 point Falcon win.

I remember that. I looked over just as it happened, and my jaw dropped. I said at least three times "No way a rookie can make that throw." He singlehandedly turned a loss into a win on that play.

With that said, does Jared Allen's injury, if season ending, go down as a huge turning point for the Vikes? I would think it owuld be the single most important moment in the Vikings season.
The Williams' suspension would have been but they have so far dodged it, so I think the Vikings are praying that Allen is okay and just pulled or bruised.

For me as a Vikings fan it has to be the 2nd Green Bay game. It was the first win for Childress against GB, and AD single handidly took that game over and won it for us. Since that game we have gone 4-1 and took over the division lead.
