on the eagles website it has the free agency section and what years all the players are signed through...next year we only have 4 free agents: TE LJ Smith, CB Joselio Hanson, LS Jim Dorenbos, and FB Thomas Tapeh. next year we could be players in the free agent market...just thought to mention it

Having a low # of free agents has nothing to do with how active they will be. If you really want to read into it, it would mean the exact opposite because those four players take up $3M at most.

Hopefully we will be able to sign L.J. to an extension sometime next season, that way all we have to worry about is our FB, a longsnapper, and a backup CB.

ya i know but take the money we dont use this year and the cap increase for next year we will have money to spend

But would we spend it?...

the cap is increasing to how much

03-07-2007, 09:05 AM
Another 6% from this year, so next years cap will be around 15.5 mil.

There is no way the cap will be $15.5mm. You can't calculate cap room based on current cap room. It is a function of salary increases, bonus payouts, cuts, etc.

The cap is currently $109mm. If it increases 6% as you have said, the salary cap will be approximately $115.5mm in 2008. Each percentage point increase in cap room equates to about $1.1mm in additional cap room.

well i know the 2006 cap was $102 mill and this years is $109 mill, so i assumed it went up another $7 mill but $6.5 mill is close enough

$6.5mm is pretty significant money. It's about what Stallworth will earn under his contract offer from the Pats...

It went up last year because the owners gave in to the NFL on raising caps, or the other way around, I don't know, it was too long ago and I might not remember correctly. But I remember seeing a pst about how unrelistic Madden is a while back and one of the things brought up was that in the NFL, cap space increases by 6%, while in Madden it goes up 10%, thats where I got that from so somewhere around 15.5 mil is reasonable.

I heard that we will have a ton of cap room next year, couldn't tell u how much though

I would think so because we are not spending money like we are eating candy this off-season. Those other teams may have the money now, but we will have it for a few years down the road. I'm interested and would like to find this out as well.

I believe the Eagles used a lot of their 2007 cap on the guaranteed money on all these extensions with the intent of clearing salary and cap in 2008 for the FA class and getting more players locked up. I'm not sure of the deal structures, but I anticipate the team having some significant money to spend, if they choose to do so.
