First things first, I connect to our school network wirelessly in my dorm using my mac mini. The school set up the network for laptops for use on campus, not the dorms, so they will not help me when I have problems. For some reason, I lose my connection every weekend. It has happened the last 3 weekends like clockwork. Every time I try to connect to the network, it tells me there was an error. Why the hell would this happen every weekend?

Somebody's gonna come in here and say its because you have a mac.

As for your problem, I have no idea at all. Does anybody else have this problem?

No idea what the problem would be, but Mac Minis are awesome. Njx will probably know.

is this when they do repairs and such on the network?

It just seems like a completely arbitrary thing, not being able to have wireless internet on the weekend...

Possibly, but every weekend starting early Saturday Morning and ending Monday morning?

Wait, isn't it Saturday though? Problem solved.

But seriously, if nobody else gets it, and they say the connection isn't meant for the dorms, it's not a coincidence you don't get it during the non-school week.

They don't turn it "off" because if you go to the library and check out a laptop, you'll still be able to connect wirelessly from there.

Go to the computer lab and flip out on the monitors.

Check with somebody who is control of the network. Otherwise make sure that you have access and there should be no problem.

Seems odd that it works for the dorm during the week and not the weekend, but works in the library at all times.

The only guess I have is the access point you connect to is located somewhere that is closed on weekends and therefore they turn it off.

That's the thing, they will not help me because wireless in the dorms isn't supported. They expect us to be hard wired in.

This is a logical explanation. I am not very experienced with Macs but I can work with them and will try to assist in this matter as best I can. One thought that comes to mind won't help now but is worth a shot for later on. Next time you are able to connect wirelessly see if there are multiple routers. If that is the case during the week, then check on the weekend. Its most likely that the router/access point you connect to is disabled on the weekend. Either that go to the library and check out a laptop and map the network and then try and connect to the library from your dorm.

Well my question is, if my access point is disabled, why is it that my airport can still find it as if it exists? It's not one of those things that gets cached, either it finds a connection or it doesn't.

If its the case that the access point is not used on weekends then I wouldn't be suprised if they just disable it then instead of actually shutting it off.

Does your airport card say whether or not its now encryted?
