View Full Version : Your favorite prospects that disappeared

I was thinking about some of my favorite prospects that have seemed to disappear from years past. Whether just never making the cut around draft time or just being buried in depth. I'd like to know some of your favorites. It would also help to post why you liked them and why you think they never made it.

I loved Brandon Browner (Oregon St. CB) a few years ago. He had rare size for a corner and looked like a smooth athlete on the field, he just screamed Bobby Taylor. He ran his 40 in either the high 4.7s or somewhere in the 4.8s and then he went undrafted but I still wanted the Pats to draft him from the fifth round on.

Spencer Havner

I thought this guy would be a sleeper in the draft about 3 years back. He had the size at 6'3" 248 lbs. One of his main problems was his lateral mobility. He had good straight line speed. I watched most of UCLA's games that year and he definitely was the vocal leader out there. I was hoping the 49ers would draft him. Apparently he's buried in the Packers depth chart.

Alan Zemaitis...i thought he was a perfect cover 2 corner.

Injuries hurt his career a lot in Tampa. We like having a 3rd corner with some size (Juran Bolden, Talib) but I'm guessing Zemaitis struggled with speed and therefore couldn't make it onto our nickel packages. I always thought we should've given him a chance as a situational corner and maybe safety.

Travis Stephens from Tennessee. I liked him when I saw him in college and thought he would make a good backup RB in the pros. He was taken in the 4th round by the Buccaneers and I'm not sure he ever got on the field. I think he was released and never played after his rookie year.

Curtis Brown, RB BYU - One of the only multi-season 1000 yard rushers in BYU history in a offense centered around the passing game. Had some good speed but I guess it was his lateral movement and no real edge on the running game(power, speed, elusive, quick).

http://www.byucougars.com/uploads/graphics/football/a-curtis_brown_Tulsa.jpg

Marty Johnson, HB Utah

See above, minus a little speed and add some power

http://assets.espn.go.com/media/ncf/2004/1231/photo/w_johnson_i.jpg

Bruce Eugene, QB Grambling State

QB Grambling for three years and all three he was a Payton Award finalist(equivalent to the Heisman in 1-a). Biggest story about him was when he took in 13 relatives or so into his two room of campus house. I was hoping he'd make a team. Pretty much the black Jared Lorenzen with some mobility.

Paris Warren is fringe roster material. If he didn't get hurt as often as he did, he probably would've been a #4 guy in Tampa or somewhere else, but injuries sealed his fate as they do with a lot of people.

Coats is actually the starting Fullback for the Bengals. He is typically used in a H-B role. He is raw and has performed, for the most part, as expected. Max Starks is a Full Time O-Lineman for the Steelers. Jabar Gaffney still gets tons of playing time for the Pats, Reggie Nelson is a starting Safety for the Jags, Brandon Siler gets good playing time in San Diego, Ray McDonald is getting a lot of Playing time in San Francisco.

lol I could go on all day on that subject...

Starks and Gaffney being used to help a Florida argument. That should tell you the story right there.

Cory Rodgers, WR from TCU

Dude was Devin Hester in college, drafted in the 3rd or 4th round by the Packers a couple years ago, then the special teams coach tried to re-teach the way he catches punts, and he fumbled half of them and didn't make the team.

That's the same special teams coach the Packers have today, allowing kick and punt returns back to midfield, getting kicks blocked, missing game-winning FGs against both the Bears and Vikings.
