View Full Version : Build a Team of Prospects: Finalists Vote!

12-20-2008, 12:38 AM
So here we are, I used a sort of Pairwise Comparison system to work out the finalists!

Please read the teams below before voting!

I know I said I'd narrow it down to just 3, but the turnout was great and I really couldn't decide between the final few teams, so I extended it to 4 finalists. I would like to thank everyone for participating.

The winner is the first person to 50 votes or the leader after 1 week.

The finalists are (in no particular order):

- Cigaro
- The Pudge
- Race for the Heisman
- GB12

I'm sorry if I didn't select your team, but please don't bother me with how yours was better than any of these or blah blah blah.....I just spent a good hour figuring this out and I apologize if your team wasn't included. I felt that these were best because of balance, getting players that looked like they went together well, and also being fairly reasonable with the player selections. (like, not calling 1st round players mid rounders and such)

So, without further ado, here are the teams (including some of my own thoughts on them)

QB- Sam Bradford, Oklahoma- Top Ten
RB- James Davis, Clemson- Second/Third Round
HB- Travis Beckum- Mid Rounds
WR- Jarrett Dillard, Rice- Late Rounds
WR- Aaron Kelly, Clemson- Late Rounds
ATH- Percy Harvin, Florida- First Round
LT- Andre Smith, Alabama- Top Five
LG- Herman Johnson, Louisiana State- Second/Third Round
C- Antoine Caldwell, Alabama- Mid Rounds
RG- Duke Robinson, Oklahoma- First Round
RT- Phil Loadholt, Oklahoma- Second/Third Round

DE- Mitch King, Iowa- Late Rounds
UT- Vance Walker, Georgia Tech- Second/Third Round
NT- Ron Brace, Boston College- Mid Rounds
RUSH- Everrette Brown, Florida State- First Round
SAM- Ian Campbell, Kansas State- Late Rounds
MIKE- Rey Maualuga, Southern California- First Round
WILL- Scott McKillop, Pittsburgh- Mid Rounds
CB- Macho Harris, Virginia Tech- Second/Third Round
FS- Derek Pegues, Mississippi State- Mid Rounds
SS- Emanuel Cook, South Carolina- Second/Third Round
CB- Joe Burnett, Central Florida- Mid Rounds

K- Graham Gano, Florida State- Late Rounds
P- Aaron Perez, California-Los Angeles- Late Rounds

My thoughts:I really love his offensive line. A huge group who should pave the way for Davis and Harvin. Bradford should also have plenty of time to spread the ball around as well. The defense didn't really wow me like some of the other teams, but they've got a playmaker in every level and should be able to play a good bend-but-not-break style to compliment that offense

QB: Nate Davis - 2nd/3rd
RB: James Davis - 2nd/3rd
FB: Zeek Zacharie - Late/UDFA
WR: Jeremy Maclin - 1st
WR: Kenny McKinley - Late/UDFA
TE: Darius Hill - Late Rd./UDFA
LT: Eugene Monroe - Top 10
LG: Tyronne Greene - Mid
C: Alex Mack - 2nd/3rd
RG: Ramon Foster - Late/UDFA
RT: Michael Oher - 1st

DE: Larry English - 2nd/3rd
UT: Darryl Richard - Mid
NT: B.J. Raji - 1st
DE: Connor Barwin - Mid
OLB: Aaron Curry - Top 5
MLB: Jasper Brinkley - Mid
OLB: Clay Matthews - 2nd/3rd
CB: Vontae Davis - 1st
S: Louis Delmas - 2nd/3rd
S: Derek Pegues - Mid
CB: Brandon Underwood - Mid

K: Ryan Succop - Late/UDFA
P: Chris Miller - Late/UDFA

My thoughts: I like the offense, I feel that Davis should have good protection behind guys like Monroe, Green, Mack and Oher. On defense, they should generate some great pass rush with English and Barwin while a big body like Raji absorbs the blockers. That should also free up the linebackers to make plays, especially Curry.

Race for the Heisman:

QB: Matthew Stafford, Georgia (top 5)
RB: LeSean McCoy, Pittsburgh (early)
FB: Mark Hafner, Houston (late)
WR: Darius Heyward-Bey, Maryland (first)
WR: Brandon Tate, North Carolina (mid)
TE: Travis Beckum, Wisconsin (mid)
LT: Eugene Monroe, Virginia (top 10)
LG: Jeff Byers, Southern Cal (late)
C: A.Q. Shipley, Penn State (late)
RG: Trevor Canfield, Cincinnati (mid)
RT: Alex Boone, Ohio State (early)

DE: Everette Brown, Florida State (first)
NT: Vince Oghobaase, Duke (early)
UT: Peria Jerry (first)
DE: George Selvie, South Florida (early)
OLB: Jonathan Casillas, Wisconsin (mid)
MLB: James Laurinaitis, Ohio State (first)
OLB: Scott McKillop, Pittsburgh (late)
CB: Joe Burnett, Central Florida (mid)
FS: Derek Pegues, Mississippi State (early)
SS: Michael Hamlin, Clemson (mid)
CB: Victor Harris, Virginia Tech (early)

K: Graham Gano, Florida State (late)
P: Kevin Huber, Cincinnati (late)

My thoughts: I really liked this team all around. On offense, Stafford should be able to hit the playermakers in DHB and Tate to spread things out and allow McCoy to run wild. Didn't totally love the o-line compared to some of the others, but it should get the job done. Really loved the d-line though. They should be in the opposing backfield non-stop and really free up Laurinatis to play in coverage like he's so good at.

QB- Matthew Stafford Georgia (top 5)
RB- Shonn Greene Iowa (2/3)
FB- Chris Pressley Wisconsin (late)
WR- Darius Heyward-Bey Maryland(1)
WR- Jarret Dillard Rice(late)
TE- Jared Bronson Central Washington (late)
LT- Michael Oher (1)
LG- Louis Vasquez Texas Tech (mid)
C- Alex Mack Cal(2/3)
RG- Kraig Urbik Wisconsin (mid)
RT- Phil Loadholt Oklahoma (2/3)

DE- Brian Orakpo Texas (top 10)
DT- BJ Raji Boston College (1)
DT- Peria Jerry Ole Miss (1)
DE- Larry English NIU (2/3)
OLB- Clay Matthews USC (mid)
MLB- Brandon Spikes Florida (2/3)
OLB- Jonathan Casillas Wisconsin (mid)
CB- Mike Mickens Cincinnati (2/3)
CB- Kevin Barnes Maryland (mid)
S- Anthony Reddick Miami (late)
S- David Bruton Notre Dame (mid)

K- Louie Sakoda Utah (late)
P- Kevin Huber Cincinnati (late)

My thoughts: The offense looks pretty good to me, should be fairly balanced, but I do love the defensive front. That d-line should be a terror and I really like that he had Spikes in behind it for them to feed plays to. The safeties aren't the greatest, but with that d-line, they shouldn't have to cover all that much.

So there we are, please vote for your favorite!

zomg, my team waz so bad***, lolz. I guess I would go with GB12's team.

I knew I should haz pickd bettur wide receivers!111!!11!!!1 I like Cigaro's team best because we had pretty much the same o-line (which is the only one I see that can provide adequate protection for a good quarterback), but his offensive philosophy beats mine.

12-20-2008, 10:55 AM
I like Race for the Heisman's the best.

12-20-2008, 11:16 AM
Good to see the voting going along, keep the votes coming guys!

How did GB12 get away with putting Brandon Spikes as a 2nd/3rd rounder? I know there is no actual regulation for that but he is clearly 1st round material.

All I said was that you have to be reasonable. He wasn't anywhere in Scott's most recent mock, which is the only way I gave to strictly label the players. It's not completely unreasonable that he falls the 2nd round, so I allowed it.

Now had he tried to pass him off as a mid-rounder or something, that wouldn't have flown.

Keep the votes/commentary coming guys. It looks real close right now.

12-20-2008, 05:12 PM
GB12. I'm all about the defensive line.

yeah, that's what got my vote too

Still chugging along in a very close race, keep the votes coming everyone!

12-20-2008, 09:26 PM
I chose Cigaro's team. It's all about the trenches, and he did extremely well there, especially with building a very underrated defensive line. That line has versatility, can provide a superb pass rush, and all four guys can hold up well against the run.

Race for the Heisman

I actually chose ThePudge's team. I think it came down to how much I like the individuals, but his team seemed very balanced and had quite a few guys I feel will pan out on the NFL.

12-21-2008, 07:40 PM
C'mon guys, keep the votes a coming. Its a very close race right now.....

12-22-2008, 11:50 AM
The Pudge is who I voted for

12-22-2008, 02:40 PM
cigaro...games are won and lost in the trenches

12-22-2008, 02:45 PM
I love that this is still so close. 4 really good teams apparently, I did good picking the finalists it seems.

Keep the votes coming guys! Remember, voting closes on 12-27 so whoever is leading at that time wins, or, if someone gets to 50 before that, they win.

BeerBaron, this was fun. You should so it again in a month or so and see the changes. I know next time I'd put a lot more thought into it.

I may do that. Try and make it more formal or something, idk. I'll think about it.

12-22-2008, 10:48 PM
It would be cool if you could get Scott involved with it somehow.
