View Full Version : #1 Player on Your Teams Board

TACKLE
12-22-2008, 03:27 PM
The title is pretty self-explanitory. Post the player your team would pick if you had top pick in the draft. Please explain why.

For the Ravens, its Michael Crabtree.

The Ravens haven't had a legititimate #1 WR since well...never. Crabtree abilities to run short patterns that move the chains would help his young QB. Crab can also stretch the field vertically and will make it difficult for opposing defenses to load the box. He would help take Baltimore offense to the next.

Post your teams.

Redskins:
Andre Smith: Could play RT from day 1 and eventually replace Chris Samuels on the left side. Runners up go to Orakpo, Curry, and Crabtree.

Panthers: Michael Crabtree. Best one-two punch ever.

Broncos: William Moore-Anyone who has watched a broncos game can see how pourous the defense is. Moore would be a great physical player with playmaking abilities at the Bronco's weakest position.

Close runners up: Orakpo, Curry

probably orakpo or curry. Could be crabtree though.

For the Titans it would probably be either Michael Crabtree (because we've lacked a legit #1 WR since Derrick Mason left) or Malcolm Jenkins (because there is going to be a starting spot open opposite of Cortland Finnegan after this season).

Bengals
1a) OT Andre Smith - Could start at left or right tackle depending on where Collins ends up.

1b) SOLB Aaron Curry - Very talented players fills a huge need on defense.

Team board: probably the best available OT, preferably one who can play RT from day one.

My board: Rey Mauluga. We need some aggressiveness on D, stat. Plus he'd round out a beastly LB corps of Merriman, Phillips, and Cooper.

Browns:

Orakpo, Curry, or Crabtree

Orakpo and Curry fit bigger needs but WR is still a need for us and Crabtree may be just too good to pass up.

I would hope someone like Orakpo for the Bears, or quite possibly Andre Smith. Crabtree would likely be up there as well.

Andre Smith, Monroe, Curry, Johnson, Macho.

As it was said before me, for the Bengals...

Andre Smith, who many regard as the top prospect in the draft. If we got Smith, Collins would likely move to the right side. Tremendous prospect, not necessarily a top need.

Aaron Curry, who could step in and start at MLB or SLB for us and give us a player with true star potential on defense in the front seven.

Redskins

Andre Smith, Monroe, Curry, Johnson, Macho.

Macho is a 3rd-4th Round prospect at this point. I don't think he is near the top of any boards, perhaps in the AFL or CFL.

If the Falcons had the #1 pick in the draft I imagine they'd take an OT. Sam Baker has struggled to stay healthy as a rookie, Weiner is getting old and has health issues, and I'm pretty sure Tyson Clabo is a RFA after the season. They could take an LT to guard Matt Ryan for the next decade and move Sam Baker to RT.

Chiefs:

I have to think Stafford or Bradford is at the top of their board, depending on who they like the most and what the offensive scheme of our new coach will be.

I'm going to have to disagree with the Ravens #1 being Crabtree, I would say it's Malcolm Jenkins. I expect a revamping of the secondary next year and Fabian is better suited to the slot IMO. Jenkins is one of my favorite corners to come out in a while and he would look great in a Ravens uniform. To bad that's only going to be possible via moving up in the first round...

Ravens: Crabtree probably followed by Jenkins

1a.) Brian Orakpo - would add another young talented piece to the DL

1b.) Aaron Curry - if DE was'nt such an issue Curry would be far and away the top guy on KC's board

Completely agree. We need a DE and a LB in the worst way. Here's to hoping Laurinitis drops to round 2!

I think a top the Giants board would be Aaron Curry or Taylor Mays, both would fill pretty big needs, but the Giants will need to trade up quite a bit to get them.

Bills:
1. Aaron Curry- Keith Ellison is a backup. He can't cover, he can't shed blocks, he can't tackle in space, he is garbage. Give me someone with some range, the ability to tackle and cover. Doesn't matter which outside 'backer spot he plays because the Bills use Right and Left. Plus, Mitchell can play WLB or SLB anyways so it works well to have outside linebackers with versatility like Curry and Mitchell.

2. Brian Orakpo- The pass rush is non-existent if they don't blitz Mitchell or Posluszny if Schobel is out. Denney and Kelsay are not starting material and with their tampa-2 based scheme they NEED a pass rush presence from the edge. I realize that Orakpo would be out of position as a Left End playing opposite Schobel, but even as a rookie he wouldn't be there full time on all downs anyways with the way the Bills rotate their linemen. Plus when Schobel was healthy Fewell was running lots of stunts and moving people around to give the pass rushers more opportunities, so Orakpo wouldn't necessarily be holding those gaps on every play anyways.

GOTTA HAVE MORE PASS RUSH!

3. Jermaine Gresham- Robert Royal is good for an eight yard gain every once in a while, but hes got some issues with fumbling it seems and can't stretch the field at all. Teams do not respect the deep middle against the Bills at all. Gresham ends all of that because he can split wide as a receiver and make huge mis-matches in the secondary and give the Bills some much needed height and size in the receiver corps. I don't care if the Bills have a couple of other young tight-ends, they are projects and aren't doing much. Give me a damn playmaker!

49ers board - No QB's. After Alex Smith I no longer believe in spending such a high pick on a QB.

1a. Brian Orakpo - Because who doesn't need a dominant passrusher
1b. William Moore - A playmaker at free safety would be a huge upgrade over Mark Roman (3 seasons, 1 int and only 15 pd's)
1c. Michael Crabtree - Haven't had a true #1 WR since TO

I'd probably say Crabtree for the Dolphins. I LOVE Orakpo, Brown, Johnson, and Cushing, but there are TONS of pass rushers this year, but I think Crabs is the only legit ELITE receiver prospect in this draft.

I'd love to have a Crabtree, Ginn, Bess, and Camarillo receiving corps, that would be VERY nice.

Patriots - Everette Brown, George Selvie, Clint Sintim

OLB is the only pressing need. Maybe another DB, but those can be found in round 2.

For the Broncos, it's probably going to be one of the following: William Moore, Taylor Mays, James Laurinaitis, Brandon Spikes, Rey Maualuga, Chris Wells, or Knowshon Moreno.

Laurinaitis is my favorite of those names. We need a leader on defense and James can be that. And he's a good football player too.

You aren't in the Shaun Hill is special camp?

Absolutely not. He's been a pleasant surprise, but he's not a franchise QB. He has a terrible arm, horrible mechanics, and is already almost 30 years old. He is a fine backup, or maybe even a decent starter for the next couple of years while the 49ers groom a younger guy, but he's far, far from a franchise signal caller.

He has a record of 6-3 as a starter with a career QB rating of 90.4 (17td's and 8 int's with a 63.5% completion).

He's not special. But you could do MUCH, MUCH, worse as a backup QB in this league. Right now he gets paid a hot $1 million base salary.
