Scouts Inc. has him ranked #14 on their list of top 32 prospects for the draft, ahead of Terrance Cody, B.J. Raji, and Peria Jerry (who isn't even on their list). Can anybody tell me what, if anything, makes him deserving of this ranking? How good is he, what are his strengths and weaknesses, and where would he go if he does come out? TIA

Season Statistics (13 Games)

26 TT, 10 TFL, 6.5 Sacks, 2 PBU

I've seen him play a couple times he reminds me of Kevin Williams, he's a real good interior pass rusher

They are behind, I wrote about McCoy in my blog back on November 19:

McCoy's stats aren't eye-popping because OU's line is so deep and they rotate guys in and out often, but the guy is a player. He was an elite recruit coming out of high school and he has improved each year he's been at OU.

I doubt he'll come out this year, but next year I can see him being an early 1st round pick.

Any of the three guys in OU's DT rotation could be first day picks maybe even first rounders.

One of the sick 3-4 DE / 4-3 UT/NT prospects coming out. He was a top recruit coming out, he's gotten better, and he's big, tall, and athletic.

If he comes out this year, I think he'd rise very fast up DT boards. I think he'd be an elite prospect if he comes out next year.

Even if he declares this year as a RS Soph, he would be the Top DT and potentially a Top 10 pick.

Not sure about top 10 this year, 2010 most likely.

Probably a Top 15 pick...if he stays a year he is probably in the Top 5, but with the way the CBA is looking he'd probably lose money if he stayed (which is odd in this case).

Only reason his numbers aren't much better is because Oklahoma rotates a lot.

Good player, has a plus upside.

Thanks guys. Sounds like a good fit for the Broncos.

If he stays, next year is going to be ridiculous for any team that needs a DT. Here are players I think could be 1st rounders

Gerald McCoy
Vince Oghobaase
Arthur Jones
Jeff Owens
Geno Atkins
Marvin Austin
Brian Price

I didn't even count guys like Terrence Cody and Sen'Derrick Marks who could return to school as well.

Even though he is a redshirt sophomore I think McCoy would be the #1 defensive tackle in this draft if he came out. The only guy who can potentially challenge him is B.J. Raji.

In my opinion McCoy is a legit Top 15 pick right now.

would you compare McCoy to a former sooner, Tommie Harris?

Yea, I think Harris is the obvious comparison.

I wouldn't disagree with you. The DT class this year is actually one of the weaker classes for 2009. That's why I was so shocked when Oghobaase and Arthur Jones decided not to declare.

I agree with how great McCoy is, but the D-line is pretty beastly overall. Granger will probably stay in school, but he should be big next year. I think English was a senior, and I have pretty high hopes for him as well.

English is a junior. He'll be a senior next year.

Ahh...I was just about to go back and edit that. I think all 3 could be first rounders if they declare. Sooners D line would be empty.

I think Auston English is a good college player but right now he wouldn't crack the first 3 rounds if he declared. Doesn't seem THAT athletic. Things could change next year though

He would probably be better off with a full season under his belt. His stock could still change with the NC game coming up if he stays healthy. I can see not making the first round, but first three seems kinda rough. I probably just need to take off my sooner's homer goggles. That always helps.
