Which player do you think will have the biggest impact in their freshman season???

The guy who sticks out the most for me is Arrelious Benn. He should get plenty of playing time early and will instantly be the go to guy on the Illinois offense. He and Juice should develop very well together. God I hate Ron Zook.

Joe Mcknight should be a instant star in the return and situational run game. Everson Griffen as well is to talented not to get some plays, especially on 3rd downs.

For another team I will go with Donavan Warren. He's very polished as a corner at this point, and Michigan is weak in the secondary.

Joe Mcknight should be a big play making threat. If Marc Tyler doesnt redshirt he should be great too. I see Noel Devine of course being a lethal weapon too...wonder if he will overshadow slaton at all

Even if Noel Devine was elgible he wouldnt make that much of an impact espically when steve slaton is still there...

i would have to say Willie Korn to be honest cause he isnt thrown into the big dogs cause he has a great supporting cast and all he is responsible for is not making any mistakes and he'll slowly develop into one of the freshmen who make the most difference to his team

I'm very excited to see what RB Chris Rainey will do in Urban Meyer's offense.

Rainey is going to be scary there. That guy is so fast.

At Miami Graig Cooper and Doug Wiggins should have an impact. OL Harland
Gunn might also see some PT.

Rainey is no faster than most of college kids, especially seniors that have been training and once he puts on some weight he will slow down. I don't be surprised if he breaks after 1 hit.

How about some of these people...
Marvin Austin
Josh Oglesby
Dwight Jones
Ryan Miller
Tyrod Taylor

Everson Griffen will prolly end up starting at SC and will be a dominate pass rusher next season.

Joe McKnight will also be a big play threat whether it be out of the backfield or in the slot.

RB Shane Vareen Cal

He's likely moving to corner, where he probably won't start his first year. I do like Jahvid Best's chances of coming in behind Forsett and doing some damage.

I had to play against Vereen in high school. Twice. I promise you that you guys got a very, very good player.

Tyrod Taylor is the only QB I see doing anything great as a freshman, but I think McKnight should have the biggest impact

Yeah, I had to play against him and Micheal Herrick(cal's alltime passing leader) in the playoffs. Whether Vareen plays O or not, he should be a huge factor on special teams with D Jack.

brandon saine Ohio State: he can play d back rb and is a great return man. When i saw him play in high school he had 2 kickoff return td's and three runs over 60 yards in the same game he is sick, he is also a national champion in track, for him to be that fast at 205-210 he must be amazing

Armando Allen for the Irish, (im not bias either) :(

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Aaron Hernandez, tight end who comitted to Florida. I've seen the guy play in person at Bristol Central he was absolutely amazing. Speed and hands of a wide receiver. Plus he'll probably get some great playing time as Florida will use the two tight end formation for their option style play. Could be a great thing with him and Tebow.

Doesn't have the hips to play CB. Safety spots are taken and RB is for sure taken. Way to raw to make an impact if you ask me.

RB Shane Vareen Cal

definetly, although his position hasn't been determined yet. he is a good corner and a very quick/agile RB. i watched him in high school and he carved us up a couple of times, too bad his qb sucked so bad this last year. i can't wait for him to take up marshawn's slack. once he does good this year, i am getting a jersey for sure

For the Vols...

Offense: Kenny O'Neal/WR(*****)- Junior college transfer. May be one of our 2 starting receivers, since our top 3 WR's entered the draft, and will have a top QB in Ainge to throw to him.

Defense: Chris Donald/MLB(*****)- Little depth at LB will give him playing time, which will eventually turn into a starting role.

Also watch for Eric Berry/CB. He was the top rated CB by most sites, has 4.3 speed, and is a helluva' athlete.

I don't think Donald will play much this year. He definately won't beat out Mayo or McCoy, and Karl will be a senior and the coaches love him. Donald will get his shot next year after Karl graduates.

Btw, Kenny O'Neal won't be a fresh since he's a JUCO transfer and also played at FSU his freshman year. I'm not sure how many years of eligibility he has left.

The only freshman I can see cracking the starting lineup is Eric Berry, and I'd be very surprised if he does it from week 1.

So Karl is the college version of Peter Sirmon? Greeaaaat... But aren't Mayo and Karl OLB's? I don't know much about McCoy.

Pit Bull #53
03-05-2007, 05:03 PM
Mayo will stay at WLB, Karl is the SLB. Rico McCoy filled in at the weakside for Mayo when he got hurt at the end of last year...he came in vs. Vandy at the end and got 3 TFL immediately. He seems more suited for the WLB, but no one is taking that job from Mayo, so he is expected to be the starter at MLB, but anything can happen.

theres also Anthony Davis who will make a huge difference for Rutgers... i know its not a skill position but he will do wonders for Ray Rice, theres also Manny Abreu for rutgers who should start right away

Well Dwight Jones has no chance of being eligible, but he might have a decent impact at Hargrave or a JUCO school.

Oglesby will redshirt as he moves to the S position. Taylor will get some reps early but I don't think he will win the starting job. Marvin Austin will probably start because UNC's DL is terrible. However, he is going to struggle early until he can add some strength and adapt to the college game. Asking a freshman DT to start, is pretty high expectations, espically in the ACC.

Josh Oglesby

I wouldn't be surprised to see Oglesby redshirt. Badgers have Eric VandenHuevel on one side, and one of the Nation's top OL recruits from last year, Army AA Jake Bscherer, stepping in on the other to replace Joe Thomas. Oglesby is still rehabbing an injury, too. They may just sit him out to save him a year of eligibility.

"...According to Josh, his rehabilitation is going well and he expects to participate in football-related activities in late April or early May. He is prepared, however, to sit out next season as an injury redshirt if the Badgers think that is the best course of action. When Oglesby is cleared to resume football action, he will train with former Wisconsin and NFL lineman Joe Panos. The two met when Panos toured southeastern Wisconsin high schools about 18 months ago while promoting his Waukesha training company and have since formed a friendship."

It's going to be hard for him to make in impact when the starting LB's are Rivers, Cushing and Maualuga. His biggest impact will probably come in ST's, kind of like Maualuga did in his freshman year.

Both, he's the total package. He's not as raw as Rey Rey though and has great fundamentals.

plus he isnt in anger management, so his head is screwed on tight, unlike rey, who is mostlikly crazy, and im all for it.

Donovan Warren, Michigan has some real questions at corner this season so he shouldnt have much trouble breaking into the starting picture.

I would also say Donovan Warren for the reasons already stated. But I also saw a quote by Carr saying that he fealt Michigan was set in the secondary, which is a scary thought with maybe Trent and Richards starting. If that's the case, and they start over Warren, Carr truly has lost his mind, and I've always been a supporter of his.

If Terrance Tolliver has a big impact at Texas that will be nuts and LSU will probably be pissed since he signed with them and is going there to play.

If he can get some PT on LSU's always strong D-Line, DT Joseph Barksdale could be really good really early. Dude is 6'6" 323 lbs. and apparently runs a 4.9 40.

Also, Terrance Toliver could step in and start right way alongside Early Doucet.

LSU's defensive line talent is unreal. Guys like Drake Nevis and Al Woods, along with Barksdale and others.

I'm not sure how much of an "impact" freshman he'll be, but expect Brandon Saine to get a lot of pt next year as we only have two returing runningbacks at OSU.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him on the punt return and maybe even kick return squad. He'll be good thunder to go with what Wells brings to the table.
