Is this proof of how good this kid really is? The line and because of that the entire offense seems to have died.

Is Andre Smith really THAT good?

No. He would've helped some, but the score would've been the same up to this point.

Unless he decided to play defense today they'd still have given up 21 first quarter points

I dont think having him would make up for 21 points in 1 quarter.

Maybe more psychological than anything else.

Im not overlooking the 21 pts given up, but it probably wouldnt be as BAD as 21-3.

I think his absense is noticeable and having a significant effect on the Alabama offense. Their not running quite as well but Wilson is getting a lot of pressure due to not having Smith their to take Krueger 1-1.

It would make a difference but i also dont think Bama started with a good approach. Too much passing early, they should be using their size advantage and running the ball at Utah. Instead, Utahs using creative blitzes get a lot of pressure on wilson and confuse the oline, helping stifle the passing game early. I think they might have been trying to catch Utah off guard and pass and PA pass, but it hasnt been working as well as running.

Theyve rolled wilson right a couple times because their struggling to protect him as well without smith.

Thats what I was getting at. Take Smith away, and you take the offenses heart away.

And JPW is playing himself out of the draft right now.

Exactly. I HATE how the heisman only goes to QBs and RBs, cause Andre Smith has been so valuable to Alabama, a picture of consistent domination in both run and pass blocking. Losing him is a big blow to the offense.

And Utahs pressure is very impressive, they have Alabama confused up front. JPW has no chance to set up and get it done.

Well after half way through the first they are onto their 3rd LT. Andre Smith is a fool for getting suspended. Im kinda wavering if he will leave this year now. He misses out on the biggest game of his career. Wonder what Saban will say.

Yeah down to 3rd LT aint helping.

I think he should go and i get the impression he will. If he really cared that much about this big game, why would he be worrying about agent crap and not focusing on the game, then handling agent stuff after?

I think he bought the hype. Got over excited. Easily could happen to any young kid being talked up so much.

Alabama offensive tackle Andre Smith made it official Saturday when he announced through a Montgomery, Ala., law firm that he was leaving school early to enter the NFL draft. Smith, the 2008 Outland Trophy winner, was suspended for the Crimson Tide's Allstate Sugar Bowl loss to Utah amid allegations that he or someone on his behalf had improper dealings with an agent.

He should be the first tackle off the board. Best in the run game by far. Better than Joe Thomas in the run game, but better than Jake Long in protection.
