24 hours in, using lozengers, they taste like pepper and make my mouth feel wierd but they kill cravings.
Anyone else saying good bye to their favorite method of slow suicide atm?

I never really saw what was so hard about quitting smoking. I've smoked half a pack a day for a while and then quit cold turkey with no trouble. I cut down from about ten cigarettes a day to none and have been fine for the last week or two. It's more mental than physical. Good luck though.

I'm day 320-ish (not in front of my home calendar at the moment) being smoke free. Some moments are still hard, but you do get to a point where you smell smoke and you think "Oh God, that stinks, I did that to myself?" Keep up the fight, and congratulations.

Never smoked a *** in my life. Managed to get my uncle to quit smoking even though he had been going for like 30 years, because I was asthmatic (sp) and know how it could kill him with heart problems etc.
I have no problem with people who do smoke though, it's their choice (apart from when it's on a bus or w/e and they like to pass their cancer onto me).

My wife doesn't smoke (never has). When we became engaged I had already begun smoking; never did I consider what I smelled or tasted (kissing - get your mind out of the gutter)like. What amazes me when I think about it is how many women I was with who smoked before I did.

I didn't even make it two days after new years. my reasoning was that I'd likely start right back up again as soon as I turned 21 (in april) and started going to bars and the like more often. there is nothing better than a cigarette when you're drunk.

Keep fighting. Any when you have a craving, just think of how terrible you smell when you walk by people and how turned off so many of them are. Then think of the harm your doing to your body and the potential lung cancer. Then think of the money you are wasting to buy them. Then think of the harm you are doing to other breathing in the smoke when you puff. Then think of all the extra laundry you have to do to get the smell out of the clothes. and then.......

There have been a few times when the whiskey wouldn't let it go down.

Yeah man, if the support helps, then good job. Cigarettes played a big part in the deaths of all of grandparents, so good luck quitting.

My tabletennis coach used to smoke a lot. He stopped with this method:
He basically had a smoke in his front pocket all day, and walked up to people and just said: See this? I could smoke this cigarrette. But i dont. because I stopped. And i think after 1 or 2 weeks he stopped

All the men on my dad's side of the family smoked like chimneys and they all ended up dead by 70-75. But then again they lived through some rough **** in WWII so they were probably bad ass to begin with.

I've never smoked a cigarette a day in my life, but I do smoke black and milds and some of the Bob Marley, although neither have been very addicting for me...I stopped for a few years when I was really trying to turn my life around and it wasn't a big deal, but I have heard how hard it is to quit cigarettes so I never wanted to get started.
I am probably at the same risk for lung cancer though, not really sure, but I started around when I was 20 and have been a casual smoker since then, I'll probably kick my habit all together in a few more years before Law School.
Congrats for kicking the habit though, I don't have any suggestions but personally beer helped me kick my smoking habit, gave me a buzz and I wouldn't worry about smoking after that.

Heroin is so much more dangerous than cigarettes though, I doubt you'll find many 70+ year old junkies.

That's how I was. I smoked for a few years but it was easy for me to quit. I started on and off for like 3-4 years after that then quit for good.

I dont think he was arguing the danger aspect.....he was more speaking towards the addictive nature of cigs.....its great that u could quit so easily, but for a lot of people it is hellish.

Good for you man, my dad has lung cancer....it's no fun. :(
Sorry to hear man.
I've never smoked a cigarette a day in my life as a personal pledge to myself after seeing others close in my family suffer and eventually die of this preventable cause. :(

I've only smoked a handful of times all when I've been drinking. I really don't see the big deal in them and why my friends go through a pack a day.

Yeah I have one in a test tube with the cap in it on my desk at work (where I'm most tempted) having something to hate helps.
2nd day through and didn't touch them, had to walk past two shops I used to buy them from at lunch and had the boss offer me one and still go through it.
Thanks for all the support guys. It might sound silly or sad, but having someone even if you don't know them saying keep it up helps.

Good job man, keep it up. I've never smoked a day in my life but I know its tough to quit.
I personally cant stand the smell of cigarette smoke. It gives me an instant headache and that smell just seeps into your clothes. Try to consider others around you if you want some extra motivation. In California, it's basically illegal to smoke anywhere so I'm good, but where you are some people may have to be forced to endure it.
It always reminds me of this one girl. When she smoked and it made her kisses taste like an ash trey. I almost puked a couple of times because it made me so sick to my stomach.

Only had 2 lozengers today, down from 6 on my first day and honestly I'm feeling pretty good. Already when I wake up in the morning I don't spend 5 mins in the shower spitting and hacking, my chest feels a lot clearer too.

Keep it up man. Every time I see my best friend smoke I feel like I'm slowly watching him kill himself. Not to mention all the money he wastes. Don't know what I'm going to do about him. Nothing I've tried seems to help. His girlfriend (who I hate) used to get on to him for smoking and I thought she might actually help, but now she smokes too and so does his mom so it's only getting worse I'm afraid.

You rock Blindsite. Keep on keeping on.
You've already made the decision that it isn't worth it. That's the biggest acknowledgment you can possibly make. Even with all the knowledge of the health risks and side effects, I've seen people struggle to quit without acknowledgment.
I would say good luck, but luck as nothing to do with it. Be awesome and stay smokeless.

I would think the financial savings alone would be motivation enough for a lot of people to quit.
If you start having a particularly difficult time with quitting, just run the numbers a couple times on how much money you'll be saving in the future. Go buy yourself something nice with the spare money.

I won't quit smoking until they start taxing the cigarettes at the rez. When a cartoon runs me 24-26 bucks the economic motivation just isn't there.

Yes and no, A long time cigarette smoker is going to have a longer withdrawal and smoking related problems than a junky, a junky's basically just got to deal with a terrible flu for two or three weeks, but H will get you hooked sooooo much faster that I strongly disagree with that assertation. Now personally I've never done H so I can't say from experience but a lot of people I looked up to as a kid turned themselves into vegetables with it so I've gotten to talk to them about it.
