That wasn't the point of the graph. The point was to show the difference between a top flight staff and a bottom rung staff. Unsurprisingly, the biggest difference was in the #1 starters.

A club source told the Star-Telegram that the Rangers are still willing to deal Jarrod Saltalamacchia straight up for Clay Buchholz.

As well they should be. It's not an ideal deal for the Red Sox, but if they see Salty as a long-term catcher, it might be worth it for them to make the move. Because of the pitching depth they added, Buchholz could be a complete non-factor this year if retained.

They didn't have a pick until the second this year and until the Comp round in 2007 drafting cheap, but relatively raw high school pitchers Tyler Chatwood and Jon Bachanov respectfully. They also haven't been able to sign many high picks, notably Matt Harvey.

Not at this market they don't. It's a crappy deal considering he hasn't been actually worth more than what he's earning on average since that magical season 5 years ago. 100 innings of Ben Sheets is much more valuable than 180 innings of Oliver Perez.
