Hooray Ricky Nolasco is awesome again.
wow saw on ESPNEWS that PIT/MIN are in trade talks for 2B Freedy Sanchez & 1B Adam LaRoche for SP Kevin Slowey
That can't be right. Slowey's our ace right now. Trading him would just open up another huge hole. Plus he just went onto the DL. Are you sure it wasn't Swarzak?

But factoring in defense (which should be factored in), Inge has been the best. Plus Inge can play every position if absolutely necessary so if it goes to extras again that comes in handy.

Both ex-Phillies. Sigh.
Dang, Brad Lidge might be good again. Struck out the side, he got better-looking in my eyes with that performance.
Also, Phuture Phillies (the Phillies prospect site I frequent) mentioned that Mike Arbuckle of the Royals (and formerly of the Phillies) was at the Lehigh Valley game when Carrasco and Drew Carpenter were pitching. Lou Marson and Jason Donald (who was injured) are also on the IronPigs.
My own thought, not substantial in any regard, would be a Gil Meche trade? For Blanton, who's had some great games but still isn't a top-line starter, they had to trade Cardenas (I believe a top-75 prospect), Outman (a solid projected middle-of-the-rotation guy) and Matt Spencer (extra guy, marginal prospect at best).
On the other hand for Kyle Lohse they dealt Matt Maloney away.
Now I'm wondering if a trade of like Donald, Carpenter and say someone like Jeremy Slayden would fetch a Meche? Still not enough probably.

Kind of surprised Cordero is our lone All Star. Not that he isn't deserving, but I figured Votto or Phillips would be there instead of him. Im cool with it though.
Hmm explain...
I'm guessing he's saying that since the Cubs have no one in their lineup worthy of being an Allstar, Ted Lilly took a pitching spot away from Gallardo.
Not sure how the Rockies fit into that though. Brad Hawpe already got in as the Rockies rep. Marquis was just a terrible choice.
Gallardo should be there over Santana, Billingsly, and Marquis. He's more deserving than Lilly too, but because of the one player per team rule you can't take Lilly out.

Ah, makes sense. I just looked at the rosters, so I didn't know Lilly was our only one. So yea, we essentially screwed Gallardo. Go Cubs!
But yea, I don't know how you can blame the Rockies. Hawpe deserves to be there and it's not the Rockies fault the manager took Marquis.

I don't have a problem with that one at all. Franklin has more saves and a lower ERA. Hoffman was perfect halfway through June, but then he slipped up just a little bit. He still has been damn good, but the other relievers all deserve to be there.

A's picked up Scott Hairston from San Diego.
I'm surprised that the A's are acquiring players at this point instead of selling. Looking at Hairston's stats, he instantly becomes the best hitter on the team (.307/.364/.547) and he's a righty which is something we need. I never would have guessed Hairston had an OPS over .900, but his BABIP is pretty high. I hope he doesn't crash too hard.
Losing Webb and Italiano doesn't really concern me, I've read that neither one looks like a future starter. I don't mind parting with a couple of relievers especially with all the young pitching in our system. Hopefully the PTBNL is a nobody.

Interesting. Any guesses?
Most guesses are the two pitchers are James Simmons and Sean Gallagher. Sean Gallagher seems to be the one with the MLB service time of whom Towers is so excited. The reason he's a PTBNL is because he's injured. He should be back and pitching by the end of July which is when the trade will be completed.
Stash
07-06-2009, 04:25 PM
I would be disappointed if it was either guy you mentioned NIP. I really had high hopes for Gallagher. He had some pretty nasty stuff last year, he just had some mechanics issues this year. I realized that we would be trading some of our young starters at some point because we have so many, but I was hoping they would be used to reel in someone better than a career 4th outfielder having a hot first half. I guess we'll have to wait and see who this PTBNL turns out to be.

Not at 5-7. He has been outstanding, though. This is probably the best season of his career but, our lineup doesnt do anything for him.
I'm going to be pissed if we trade him. But Olney keeps saying an Escobar or Vazquez deal is likely. To bring in a good hitting outfielder and a replacement short stop.

He's been one of the best pitchers in baseball this year and deserves a place on the all star team, so it's a shame. And his value will probably never be higher but the Braves should not settle for anything less than a great hitting outfielder for Vazquez.

I agree. If the game is going to count, the best players need to play. That means no fan vote and no rule about every team being represented. All these espn guys talk about the game being for the fans. If that is the case, then it shouldn't count. Home field advantage is a big deal and it shouldn't be treated lightly.
The only thing I will say is that throwing a pitcher like Lincecum for a full game would be unfair to his team, so that despite the game being important, they really cant fully play the best pitchers. I do think that the position players should play the whole game.

Mark DeRosa, whom the Cardinals acquired in a trade with Cleveland just more than two weeks ago, is headed to the 15-day disabled list with a left wrist strain. DeRosa, who played just three games with the Cardinals before injuring the wrist, was initially thought to be rejoining the Cardinals in Milwaukee tonight for the start of a three-game series. However, after an examination of the wrist on Monday, the team announced this afternoon that he will be moved to the disabled list, retroactive to July 1.

I'd be fine if we dealt away Rollins and anyone in the farm aside from Drabek and Taylor for the best pitcher in the MLB, assuming we would be able to resign him.

Braves/Brewers have discussed a Javy Vazquez deal. The Braves seem to want Mat Gamel or Alcides Escobar, though. So, nothing may come of it. Melvin said they didnt talk but, several sources say they were talking about it.
Would the Braves want to move Alcides or Yunel from short?

They'd keep him there, I'm sure. He'd be Yunel's eventual replacement. Yunel probably doesnt have a future in Atlanta after this season. All-star caliber talent but, a real immature knuckle head. He has really fallen out of favor with Bobby Cox and the rest of the organization.
The last major incident for Yunel being...when he was given an error by the score keeper in a recent game. He then started staring up angerly at the box and cursing the score keeper to hell. And then he put his pouty face on and decided he was just going to stand there and not play defense because, he was given that error. He was swiftly benched right then by Cox. He's a baby w/ attitude problems. He only plays when he feels like it, especially on defense these days.
He constantly gets into arguments with umpires, he hams everything up, you cant get him to play hurt barely ever. If he's a little banged up and I mean a little, he doesnt want to play at all. If he doesnt feel like turning two, he just wont. Plenty of time, doesnt matter. I've seen him just step on second and not make the throw about 10 times this year, when he's had plenty of time to do so. Bobby Cox loves and hates him at the same time. But, it's pretty evident that he wont have a long term future with Atlanta.
I love his talent, he's a great player but, he just doesnt get it. His attitude and drive is just not what you want to see out of a player.

Young good bats. So the Royals are out. :D
The Braves can get a great return for him. They're looking for just a great well rounded young hitter or even better, a power hitting outfielder. They would also want a replacement for him, though.
Texas should make a run at Halladay. Feliz + top prospect + good prospect should get it done. God knows they have enough in the system. That division is waiting to be won.

Gardenhire shouldn't get MOY by any means. AL should be Ron Washington right now

It could be a legitimate argument that Zimmerman and Sandoval deserve it more than he does. And his batting average has been falling, and will continue to, so it would be nice if he hit for power.
I feel the same way on this. I've thought Zimmerman should be starting. As a 3-4-5 hitter, you'd like Wright to hit for some more power. He isn't batting lead off or second.

Talking to myself here, but not withstanding three real good starts this year, I'm pretty freaked out about Cole Hamels.
Think of all the innings he pitched last year and while he did have a very abbreviated ST, he has been getting hit around pretty well and hasn't been striking out as many batters as he did last year. Minus the shut out, the 10 K performance against the Os and this past start; it's been a rough go for him.
