About 120 people were arrested during the violent outburst on Wednesday, which came after a day of demonstrations over the shooting of Oscar Grant III, a 22-year-old butcher’s apprentice who was shot in the back by a transit system police officer while he lay on the platform at the Fruitvale Station of the Bay Area Rapid Transit system. I dont trust the police anymore.
EDIT: By the way, that video actually shows him getting shot in the back.

We really don't know what exactly happened. Police shouldn't have to use their weapon unless they are forced too, and it didn't seem like they or anyone else was being threatened, but this video might not tell the whole story. Still terrible notheless but burning cars in violent riots is no way to resolve things like this, all that will come out of that is getting hurt or arrested.

I've had some pretty scary run-ins with over zealous police officers myself, and it really is getting hard to trust them.

Regardless of whether or not we know the whole story, by watching the two videos of the shooting we know that the man was lying on his stomach and detained by multiple officers. Then he was shot in the back. There was no reason to use there weapons in that scenario. If he was being resistant then put him in cuffs.

I don't see how anyone can get away with that. We've seen police officers be freed of charges on instances similar to this before, but i don't think there's any way around this one. If this guy gets away without a scratch, i will lose the little faith i have left in the justice system.

I know I'm saying it looks like there was no reason to use his weapon. Things like this are terrible but sometimes there is more to the story than the cameraphone has to show.

I/m not a person who overly accepts authority, but most of the guys are out there trying to do the right think even though they may get on a power trip. It's too bad that a few bad people make everyone look bad.

Unfortunate that stuff like this happens....I've only encountered one officer who had a power trip while questioning me for an underage; he wanted to see my ID, so I reached to grab my wallet and he slammed me onto the hood of his car.

I'll be honest. I think it was an accident. Those officers just started carrying Tasers in December. Looking at his stance and the stunned expression he has on his face after the shooting, among other things, I think he meant to draw his Taser and pulled his gun instead. He should still be charged with like manslaughter or negligent homicide, but I really don't think he intended to shoot him in cold blood in front of probably hundreds of witnesses, any of whom could have been, and most likely where, recording everything with camera phones.

Not at all. Very few people actually know how to shoot offhanded, whether it's a gun or a Taser.

I've had two bad experiences with cops. My first was when I was standing outside in the street skating with some friends in front of my house. Two apparently off duty cops came up on us yelling at us to get our hands in the air and then drew their guns on us. There reasoning is they thought they heard gun shots and we looked suspicious. When the situation got better and we talked them down I asked them to show me proof of being police I moved in to see their I.D. and I could smell straight alcohol all over their breaths and they were obviously drunk. Another time me and my friend were going home from a movie and got pulled over for speeding. We were out past curfew so apparently that's a serious enough offense to get pulled out of the car, frisked, handcuffed and have our lives threatened. One cop plainly said to me "I'll put a ******* bullet in your head if you think this is a joke" after I was fully cooperating and being quiet. They put us in the back of their car and told us we were going to jail until they found out my friend's dad was a firefighter so and they let us go. Bastards. My main problem with police nowadays is how so many idiots easily become cops. I know so many morons from high school that are either already cops or in the process of becoming cops. It's pretty scary IMO.

Unfortunately, that happens. That's why I like the way most police forces in Canada do it. It can literally be a year long process of lie detectors etc. just to be accepted do do training. And then you still have to pass the training, which can be 6 months in itself. Idiots still make it through, but at least not as many IMO.

i've never had a problem with cops
got pulled over for speeding; was going to give me a speeding ticket, failure to use turn signal 2x, and tailgating (didnt see the cop behind me, why i got the last 2); only gave me speeding ticket, and didnt take points off my license so i didnt have to tell my parents (for insurance reasons)
got pulled over agains (burnt out high beam; had no idea it was burnt out); gave me a written warning, and said i was supposed to go to his police barracks to show it was fixed (was 2 am and had 2 friends in the back, both minors); just told me to get it fixed and he didnt feel like checking up on me, so i didnt have to show him it
got in trouble for having something illegal in my car; basically talking to a kid on my team, another friend ran over a mall sign; same color car as me; kid gets in my car; get pulled over; talk my way out of it and get disorderly conduct (which is lower than a misdemeanor, same level as traffic tickets) and unlawfully activities (windows had too much tint); none show up on background checks

That pretty much sums up how I feel. Nobody would be dumb enough to intentionally shoot an unarmed detained guy in front of a crapload of people on a BART platform. Unforunately this kind of incident is an invitation for stupid people everywhere to assume the worst before any kind of investigation/trial and flock to the Bay Area and riot. It's only a matter of time before Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton show up, I can't wait.
