Usually one guy just mucks up my mock so I decided to scower all the team boards to get pick ideas lets see what we think Slam away they ain't my picks!
1 Detroit = Matt Stafford QB UGA =
Good points. It's his 3 years of SEC experience, production despite a lack of top shelf surrounding offensive talent, and arm strength that set him ahead of Bradford in my mind.
And if we're considering which of the two QB's is gonna utilize CJ's talents better, I think it's Stafford. He has the arm strength to get him the ball and a guy like CJ can adjust to a less accurate throw due to his height and athleticism. I like Stafford's ability to throw the ball through a defense, not around a defense like Bradford might.
2. St Louis - Eugene Monroe LT UVA -
I'm pretty sure he (Barron) led the Rams' line in sacks allowed and finished second in penalties. He's been a penalty machine since he came into the league and hasn't been the kind of blocker you expect a top 20 pick to be. He has one more year on his contract, so he could be kept for 2009. But most feel that an eventual replacement needs to be found.
Think of it this way - when the Rams drafted John Greco in the third round last year, the early talk was that he would push Barron at RT rather than factor in immediately at guard. I think the Rams are losing patience in Barron as well as Incognito while we're listing names.
3. KC - Michael Crabtree WR Texas Tech
I'm beggining to think if Crabtree is available he needs to be the pick.Crabtree+Bowe = SEXY
1.4 Seattle (4-12) Malcom Jenkins, CB, Ohio State
my top 5 is:
Jenkins
Curry
Orakpo
Monroe
Maclin/Crabtree
my big board:
Jenkins
Curry
TRADE Down
Crabtree
Monroe
1.5 Cleveland (4-12) Aaron Curry OLB Wake Forrest
Orakpo and Crabtree won't see the top 5 IMO. However, Curry would be a very nice pickup if he falls to #5.
1.6 Cincinnati (4-11-1) Andre Smith OT Alabama -
I agree completely on the running game, which also helps to back up my point on putting emphasis on the OL. Perry is a capable RB (minus his fumblitis, it's just he was making his first cut in the backfield... Not a recipe for success. Build up a stout Oline, pound the ball then give Carson time in passing downs to get the 1st or go for the big play. The defense was young and solid last season, there's reason to expect that the players will only continue to get better. When we're playing the Steelers/Ravens D 4 times a season, that Oline better be ready for battles.
1.7 Oakland (5-11) Jason Smith OT Baylor
I like Jason Smith more than Monroe in the ZBS. Hes more athletic and seems to be a perfect fit. Monroe could probably succeed in it, but probably not right off the bat.
1.8 Jacksonville (5-11) Michael Oher OT Ole Miss
Personally, I have Michael Oher, Andre Smith, and Eugene Monroe rated ahead of Malcom Jenkins. If 1 of those 3 linemen are there at #8, I'd rather have us take him. But if they're all gone, I would be very happy with Malcom Jenkins and then whoever falls to us at the top of the second round (although hopefully not Loadholt as he appears to be strictly a RT). Ciron Black would be perfect.
I'm not high on Maualuga, but I get what you're saying with going BPA.
1.9 Green Bay (6-10) Brian Orakpo DE Texas
If Orakpo is there, then there should be absolutely no question.
1.10 San Francisco (7-9) BJ Raji NT BC
First, I didnt know you and Joe Horn were so much alike, referring to yourself in the 3rd person. Second, the more I think about it and read about it, Raji sounds like a perfect match for us at #10.
1.11 Buffalo (7-9) Everette Brown DE FL State
True, but would we use one as an every down DE? We swap people in and out pretty often. I still wouldn't mind Everette Brown.
1.12 Denver (8-8) Rey Maualuga ILB USC
I had to extrapolate here Raji's gone no S worth this pick with Mays going back to school and no DE/OLB types worth the pick either.
...
can they also end world hunger and bring world peace? just because you say it doesn't make it remotely true.
but i'd be interested in seeing how we can "adequately address" the fact that our linebackers might be the worst in the league, our safeties couldn't start on most college teams, we need DT help *and* get a "playmaker" at RB. unless you're presuming that denver will have the greatest draft ever and find a starter in every single round.
1.13 Washington (8-8) Eben Britton OT Arizona
Britton is a pimp. He is first-team All-Pac-10. He's started every game at Zona since his freshman year. Has great size at 6'6 340 lbs but has very fluid and quick movement for a guy of that size. Recently he was rated as the No. 7 overall prospect by Todd McShay for the 2009 draft. I have him really high on my wish list.
1.14 New Orleans (8-8) William Moore Missouri
I'm thinking William Moore or BJ Raji if we stay at #14.
1.15 Houston (8-8) Aaron Maybin, DE, Penn State
The disscussion of the Texans draft is a lil light and I refuse to draft a RB to the Texans in the first round.
1.16 San Diego (8-8) Knoshown Mareno RB UGA
Did I just draft Moreno over Wells? yep Moreno is alot better at catching out of the backfield.
I for one would not be unhappy if the team drafted Moreno. We do have more pressing needs at a couple positions but HB needs to be addressed. LT said he will play out his contract before retirement and Sproles is probably gone so Moreno could step right into a significant role before taking over in a few years.
1.17 New York Jets (9-7) Jeremy Maclin WR Missouri
The only RB I'd be happy with in the first round is Chris Wells. I think Shonn Greene will be available much later than he should be and if the Jets can get him in the third and fourth can be that team thats drafts the starting caliber running back in the mid rounds this year I'd be happy.
I'd prefer if the Jets drafted a fast wide receiver of a tall possession receiver. Although Maclin at 6'1 or DHB at 6'3 on the Jets roster would instantly be both the tallest and fastest starting caliber WR the Jets have. Crabtree will be long gone by the time the Jets pick.
Tyson Jackson is a player I would have been happy with a few months ago, but I see DE as a much lesser need than I did a while ago.
Eric Barton being a free agent makes ILB a pressing need IMO. Elam is a free agent too.
1.18 Chicago (9-7) Mark Sanchez QB USC
Now him, I'd prefer to Bradford.
He won't fall to us though....and even if he did, I'd think the depth at other positions of need would have to be gone.
1.19 Tampa Bay (9-7) - Darrius Heyward-Bey WR Maryland
We need to bring in a WR that could atleast be an okay #2 and one that could play #3. We currently have Bryant and a bunch of guys that are #4s.
It would help if we knew what type of offense we would be running before figuring out who would be the best fit.
1.20 Detroit - from Dallas (9-7) James Laurinaitis ILB Ohio State
Personally I am anti Jerry Bad injury history and we need the big run stuffer rat NT I don't think Jerry is that guy
I'd tweek it a lil
1A Stafford
1B JL
2 Ron Bracer
3A Macho Harris
3B Eric Wood, OL - Louisville
1.21 Philadelphia (9-6-1) Brandon Pettigrew TE
Brandon Pettigrew is really starting to grow on me. I wouldn't be at all upset if he was our first pick this year.
1.22 Minnesota (10-6) Vontae Davis CB Illinois
because I say so
1.23 New England (11-5) Chris Wells, RB, Ohio State
top RB had to get him in somewhere
1.24 Atlanta (11-5) Alex Mack C
Alex Mack just moved to my number 2. He seems to be doing a good job at the Sr. Bowl where he is getting the better of BJ Raji. Check out his scouting report:
He seems to be a great C prospect. He could be the anchor for our offensive line and be our Jeff Saturday for the next 10 years.
1.25 Miami (11-5) Brian Cushing OLB USC
No matter where he goes Bill Parcells wins and the way he has turned this Dolphins franchise around so quickly might be one of his crowning achievements. There is still work to be done though and Miami has plenty of needs they could address with this pick. When doing mock drafts it’s important to look at history and trends and Parcells has used first round picks on impact linebackers everywhere he has been. Whether it was Carl Banks with the Giants, Willie McGinest in New England, James Farrior with the Jets or DeMarcus Ware with the Cowboys. That is what we call a tendency. Brian Cushing has battled the injury bug for most of his career but when he is healthy the results have been impressive. A bit of a linebacker / defensive end hybrid, Cushing would be a perfect fit in the Dolphins 3-4 defensive scheme and he could play outside or inside for them. In fact, in many ways he is similar to Bobby Carpenter, who Parcells liked enough to use a mid-first round pick on during his time with Dallas. The Dolphins could also use a top cornerback and outside of Ted Ginn they really don’t have anything to get excited about at wide receiver either. Keep a close eye on B.J. Raji too because he would be an ideal fit as their long-term successor to the aging and undersized Jason Ferguson at nose tackle
1.26 Baltimore (11-5) D.J. Moore, CB, Vanderbilt
Good point. I just don't think any of the corners mentioned above wold be left, but I know there could be a lot more when the rest of the underclassmen declare. I really thin that corner should be our #1 priority, but BPA is always a great option.
1.27 Indianapolis (12-4) Peria Jerry, DT, Ole Miss
Jerry's age is a negative, but we aren't a rebuilding team. If he's there, I think we should take him.
I've seen a lot of Kory Sheets and I like him, but I wouldn't compare him to Slaton. Sheets isn't as explosive. Also, while he may be bigger then Hart, he doesn't break as many tackles. But Sheets does have a good combination of power/quickness. He's a very slippery and deceptive runner.
1.28 Philadelphia - from Carolina (12-4) Brandon LaFell WR L.S.U.
The Eagles' biggest needs in my opinion are...
2. #1 WR- We need one. End o' story. I love Baskett, Avant and Jackson, but we need that big stud guy who will be the go-to guy.
1.29 New York Giants (12-4) Clint Sintim OLB Virginia
Sintim isn't gonna fall to us anymore. I think he's taken by Miami since Orakpo and Brown will be long gone by then. They either nab him or Raji.
No great LB talent will be there for us at 29. Thats what stinks about all this.
1.30 Tennessee (13-3) Percy Harvin WR Florida
While the need is at CB the value is at WR
1.31 Arizona (9-7) LeSean McCoy rRB PITT
For some reason Zona fans aren't talking draft hmmm???
1.32 Pittsburgh (12-4) Duke Robinson OG Oklahoma
I still like this pick
