LA JOLLA, CALIFORNIA (TICKER) —The Tennessee Titans likely will name Chuck Cecil as their new defensive coordinator, the National Football Post reported Friday.

A hard-hitting safety during his playing days, Cecil would replace Jim Schwartz, who was hired as the new coach of the Detroit Lions.

When contacted by PA SportsTicker, a Titans spokesman declined to confirm the report.

Cecil has been with the Titans for the last eight years, spending the past two seasons as the club’s defensive backs coach.

In Tennessee, Cecil would take over a talented defense which ranked second in scoring this past season. Tennessee gave up just 14.6 points per game en route to garnering the AFC’s top seed but was upset in the divisional round of the playoffs by the Baltimore Ravens.

Kinda expected it to be McGinnis due to Fisher's loyalty to vets, but I'm not surprised Fisher had a young replacement in waiting. Gonna be interesting to see how Cecil runs a defense. I also really, really hope this means Marcus Robertson becomes the DB's Coach. This past season was his first season as asst. DB's Coach, and look at the development of Finny and Griff. He has a very bright future ahead.

I wonder how different, if at all, he will run the defense. Kind of surprised McGinnis didn't get it. Hope he takes it well. I guess Washburn wasn't really a consideration either. Not too much of a big deal and sort of just a curiosity question, didn't Cecil get a DUI last year? Hope we don't have a drunkard for a coordinator. :D

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Titans assistant coach Chuck Cecil was arrested and charged with drunken driving and violating Tennessee's implied consent law by refusing a blood alcohol test the night before the team's 22-20 loss to Indianapolis.

Metro Nashville police stopped Cecil, a former NFL safety and now the Titans' defensive backs coach, for driving 42 mph in a 30-mph zone Saturday night. Officer James T. Cole Jr. wrote that Cecil smelled of alcohol with red, watery eyes.

Cecil was unsteady on his feet through several sobriety tests, including stumbling when trying to turn. He put his arms out three times for balance during a one-legged stand and put his foot down after 14 seconds.

Cole advised Cecil of the implied consent law before he refused a blood alcohol test.

Cecil appeared before a night court officer just before midnight and was on the sideline Sunday with the Titans during the loss to Indianapolis.

He played seven seasons in the NFL, his last with the then-Houston Oilers in 1995. He has coached with the franchise since 2001.

Great catch bro! I totally forgot about that. At least we know who KFC's drinkin' buddy is! :D

Hopefully his defense is.

Well, hold your testes.

Now, let 'em go. Better?

Anyway, apparently nothing official about the new DC. Cecil looks to be the favorite, but Fisher said that he's yet to decide on the replacement. Fish will officially announce the new DC next week.

Not official yet eh? Oh well, I figure we'll be fine as long as we promote from within.

Now it's official! Hooray!

Gonna be interesting to see what Cecil does with the DEF. I know how the beast he was in his playing days, but I wonder if he has a fiery sideline demeanor or if he's more chillaxed broseph.
