Let me break it down year by year.

2000 - Dorsey Levens was on the cover. After recording 1,034 rushing yards in 1999, his production dropped severly. He only rushed for 224 yards the year after he appeared on the cover.

2001 - Eddie George was on the cover. Before Cover: 1,375, 3.9 ypc Averages. After Cover: 892, 3.3 ypc Averages

2002 - Daunte Culpepper (oh geez) - After appearing on the cover of the 2002 version, Culpepper struggled to a 4-7 start and eventually fell to a knee injury.

2003 - Marshall Faulk - After hitting the 1,000 yard rushing mark in 7 out of 9 seasons, Faulk never hit the mark again.

2004 - Michael Vick - Literally days after Madden 2004 was released, Vick injures his fibula and misses all but 5 games of the Atlanta Falcons season. The Falcons ended up with a 5-11 record. And is now in prison...

i second that. although i'm not sure how true it seems anymore. vick was followed by ray lewis, mcnabb, alexander, vince young, and favre. lewis and mcnabb have done just fine. favre has been over the hill for a few years now; vy is a good athlete, but i never though he would be a great qb, but time is still on his side; shuan alexander has fallen off the face of the earth. it seems they choose a player that plays a position that deals with whatever aspect of the game they improve for that year(the lack of real improvement since ea got the sole rights is up for a whole discussion of it's own)

I am familliar with the history behind this, hopefully James Harrison or Demarcus Ware will get the Cover this year rather than AD.

Just a guess, Larry Fitzgerald. I hope not though.
