View Full Version : Everettte Brown weighed 225 in his final game?

Weight is also an issue for another underclassman 'tweener, Everette Brown of Florida State. Some teams wonder if Brown has the body at this point to withstand the rigors of a 16-plus game season. In his final game at FSU, Brown weighed 225 pounds. Teams want their edge pass rushers to be around 260 pounds. This is an issue with which the 49ers are already familiar. They drafted Manny Lawson in the first round three years ago and the lanky linebacker has had a hard time adding weight - and explosiveness - to his frame.

I knew he wasn't the heaviest guy around, but I never thought he was 225. I figured he was probably in the low 240s. Can anyone confirm?

225 is pretty light for that position even in college. Maybe he had an illness or was just getting over one that caused him to lose some weight?

I am skeptical of that. He weighed more than 225 coming out of high school...

That would put him in Aaron Maybin territory. I would still like him better as a prospect, but that could really hurt him. 225 is waaaaaaaaay too light for him. I have a hard time believing that though. FSU has him listed at 252. That would be a 27 pound difference.

All that matter is the last weight he gets measured at... which is probably FSU's Pro Day. He won't be anywhere near 225 then.
Kid will be around 245-250 and he is an animal. I wouldn't be shocked to see him to go #5

I seriously doubt he was that light looking at him. Moment of truth next week then.

Primitive, but he certainly looks bigger than 225.

It sort of limits him and Maybin to OLB unless they can add some lbs. Drafting someone for a postion they havent played to me is a gamble but it appears GMs will take them pretty high anyway.

Wouldn't be shocked to see him go #6 either. Seems like the rangy, athletic pass rusher Marvin Lewis has wanted at end in the past (Jarvis Moss, Derrick Harvey...).

Agreed. I don't buy this for a second.
Like you said, we'll find out for sure next week.

That just has to be a misprint, maybe 245 at the lighest. I saw him on campus alot last semester and he has a very wide upper body. 225 is smaller than alot of FSU's LB's. He isn't 6'4" though which is what he is listed. He's probably 6'2" tops.

225 would basically make him the same size as Stafford and Sanchez.

Smaller, at least in Stafford's case. Not sure i'm buying the 225 but seems obvious we arent talking a DE.
I don't buy this, personally.

Not buying it. Though many players are significantly heavier/lighter at the end of the season than what they are listed at. Everette Brown is still going to be a great pass rusher in the NFL.

The interesting thing regarding your comparison to Maybin is that in the same article claiming Brown to be 225 lbs it says this about Maybin...
The question is whether he has the size having played at Penn State at around 240 pounds. He has said he is hoping to arrive at the combine at 250 pounds
Specualtion can, indeed be fun prior to the Combine, but from watching them both play I've never gotten the impression that Maybin was the one who was 15 lbs heavier.

I guess it's possible, but if he was able to play some snaps from the 3-tech and be successful (which he did against Maryland) at 225 lbs, I'm not even sure that's a bad thing.
Certainly, that would be too light moving forward, but all sorts of conditioning factors can lead to losing weight towards the end of seasons. I imagine that he'll be much closer to 250 when he weighs in at the combine and if he can time well enough at that weight, the only question is whether a good NFL trainer could keep him at that playing weight for an NFL season. I imagine the answer will be yes.

I think he'll be about 252-3 at the combine.

You know who is loving this DE Brian Orakpo. He looks like the only legit top 15 DE at 260lbs.
Maybin and Brown are way to small if the reports are correct.

Yea I'm pretty skpetical about that. But nonetheless I don't think anyone will draft him to be a down end. 3-4 LB or bust

I am not sure on Brown's weight, he doesn't look that small.
I did listen to Mel Kiper and Todd McShay on a podcast yesterday and there are reputedly serious concerns about his height and that he may be around 6"1" rather than the 6"4" he has been listed at.
If that is confirmed at the scouting combine, it means Brown will almost certainly end up as a pure 3-4 OLB prospect; luckily for him that shouldn't be too much of an issue as many of the likely first round destinations play (or will play) a 3-4.

I actually wouldnt be suprised IF by the last game he was 225, List weights and play weights are very different, its a lot like fighters. You meet a fighter who fights in the 155 division usually weighs around 170-180 and they cut all the weight within 4 days to make weight and then allow it to go back. The combine is just the opposite. Listed weights and heights from college websites are the most overblown numbers. I heard that Aaron Schobell towards the end of the season weighs around 240.

This thread should just be locked because it's a complete misprint and he didn't weigh 225 at all, people are just speculating about something thats not true to begin with.

Nah, i dont think so. His best fit probably is as a 3-4 OLB...but he'll definately be able to play with his hand down.
