DE Igor Olshansky signs with Steelers
DT Albert Haynesworth signs with Broncos

ILB Channing Crowder signs with Patriots
CB Leigh Bodden signs with Browns
CB Bryant McFadden signs with Packers
CB DeAngelo Hall signs with Ravens

#1 Lions-QB Matthew Stafford, Georgia
The Lions draft the face of the franchise and a new hope

#2 Rams-WR Michael Crabtree, Texas Tech
This could very well be an offensive tackle but with Holt’s play dropping off why take an inferior talent in a tackle when Crabtree is the best player in the draft?

#3 Chiefs-LB Aaron Curry, Wake Forest
I don’t see Pioli taking a quarterback, especially one that could bust so easily which is terrible in this economy. Curry can be a difference maker on the Chiefs awful defense and can line up wherever they need him.

#4 Seahawks-DT B.J. Raji, BC
The Seahawks GM has selected a defensive player 60% of the time with his first round pick. More importantly, he has gone defensive line 40% of the time with his first round pick. Most importantly, the Seahawks need an upgrade in the center of their defensive line and Raji has proven to be a beast stuffing the run and rushing the passer.

#5 Panthers (F/CLE)-DE Brian Orakpo, Texas
When Orakpo tears up his workouts his stock will rise, maybe top five will still be a little high for him, but with the trading away of Peppers the Panthers need a new pass rusher and Orakpo is much better suited for the 4-3 Brown.

#6 Bengals-OT Eugene Monroe, Virginia
The Bengals tackles are a mess; luckily Anthony Collins showed promise, pairing him with Monroe could fix their tackle problems completely.

#7 Raiders-OT Michael Oher, Ole Miss
Al Davis loves freak athletes and Oher claims he is going to “shock” with his 40 time. If he does that he will definitely be on Davis’ radar.

#8 Jaguars-OT Jason Smith, Baylor
Barnes is not likely to be brought back and he sucked in 2008 anyway, the Jaguars need someone to protect Garrard’s blind side.

#9 Packers-OLB/DE Everette Brown, Florida State
With the move to the 3-4 the Packers will be looking for people to fit the new scheme, and they start with Brown to rush the passer.

#10 49ers-OT Andre Smith, Alabama
The 9ers draft Smith to play him on the right side to be a mauling right tackle to open holes for Gore and leave Staley and the left side, and don’t worry about their offensive tackle situation for the next decade.

#11 Bills-OLB Brian Cushing, USC
A reach, yes, but reaches happen on draft day and the Bills have shown they are not afraid to reach to get their guy. The best talent the lines up with their needs Cushing can start day one.

#12 Broncos-ILB Rey Maualuga, USC
Just like the Packers the Broncos will be looking for 3-4 personnel guys, and Maualuga is the top pure 3-4 inside linebacker in the draft.

#13 Jets (F/WAS)-QB Mark Sanchez, USC
The Jets move up to secure Sanchez’s services, and get their quarterback for the future. I’m excited to see how Jet fans react to signing Garcia and drafting Sanchez but the quarterbacks on their roster now suck so they need a stopgap and a future.

#14 Saints-RB Chris Wells, Ohio State
With the release of Deuce McAllister the Saints really lack a power back presence, which is what really made this offense run so well in the first place. Bush can’t run between the tackles so the Saints need someone who can. The Saints may need defense but this seems like such a bigger need, their offense runs so much better with a power back in the lineup.

#15 Texans-DE Michael Johnson, Georgia Tech
Johnson is going to dominate at the combine and his workouts, which should send his stock rising, plus he plays a premium position. The Texans need a legit defensive end across from Mario Williams, and this combo could be lethal.

#16 Chargers-DE Tyson Jackson, LSU
Olshansky does not get re-signed in this mock offseason, not that he played well in 2008 anyway, which makes this a top need for the Chargers. Well they get a great replacement/upgrade in Jackson here in the middle of round one.

#17 Redskins (F/NYJ)-CB Vontae Davis, Illinois
Dan Snyder goes a little Al Davis and drafts the 40 time, but when Davis runs a 4.2 he will close the gap between him and Jenkins.

#18 Bears-CB Malcolm Jenkins, Ohio State
The Bears corners disappointed this season and I don’t see them passing on the top defensive back in the draft.

#19 Buccaneers-QB Josh Freeman, Kansas St
Word is the Buccaneers camp likes Freeman, and with the garbage they have on the roster at this position, it should be no surprise if they draft him here come April.

#20 Lions (F/DET)-OT William Beatty, Connecticut
If you invest #35 million in a number one pick quarterback you have to protect the kid.

#21 Eagles-C Alex Mack, California
Eagles fans hate my Eagles draft, but I’m not going to change it, their offensive line is a mess, and Alex Mack can be a Pro-Bowler for the next 10 years, this is step one.

#22 Patriots (F/MIN)-OLB/DE Larry English, Northern Illinois
The Patriots trade for Sheppard so defensive back is less of a need, so they address their mediocre pass rush with the perfect 3-4 guy in English.

#23 Patriots-RB Knowshon Moreno, Georgia
This may seem like a luxury but think about it, the Patriots traded for Sheppard, just drafted English a pick before, and have two second round picks to address other needs, and it’s not like running back isn’t a need. Maroney can’t stay healthy, Faulk is 100, Sammy Morris and Lamont Jordan are alright, and Moreno is just too good to pass up here.

#24 Falcons-S Louis Delmas, Western Michigan
Milloy was cut and a replacement is needed, and Delmas might just find his way into round one.

#25 Dolphins-OLB Clint Sintim, Virginia
Parcells always gets an impact outside linebacker everywhere he goes, and Sintim played in the 3-4 in college.

#26 Cardinals (F/BAL)-OLB/DE Aaron Maybin, Penn St
A pass rush is what this defense really lacks, so the Cardinals take a chance on Maybin here with their new first round pick.

#27 Colts-DT Peria Jerry, Ole Miss
If Jerry drops this far I don’t see how the Colts could draft anyone else.

#28 Eagles-OG Duke Robinson, Oklahoma
Step two, you asked for the link that said Andrews was down to 250, here it is: http://www.walterfootball.com/draft2009.php go to the Eagles #28 pick and here: http://www.walterfootball.com/offseason2009phi.php Point is they need a new guard. Well Robinson is just what Reid likes in an offensive lineman, huge.

#29 Giants-OLB Clay Matthews, USC
The Giants need to keep Kiwanuka at defensive end, drafting Matthews will allow them to do that and upgrade the linebacker spot at the same time.

#30 Titans-WR Jeremy Maclin, Missouri
The Titans don’t draft receivers in the first round but if mega-talent Maclin falls to them they have to… right?

#31 Cardinals-RB LeSean McCoy, Pitt
The Cardinals need a running back to start and have Hightower as the goalline guy.

#32 Steelers-C Max Unger, Oregon
Unger can play multiple positions on the line so the Steelers can shuffle their guys to get the best five out there.

#33 Lions-CB Darius Butler, Connecticut
When Butler runs a 4.2 at the combine his stock will rise, and from what I’ve heard he is already in the first round, so he is a steal here.

#34 Chiefs-DE Paul Kruger, Utah
The Chiefs had 10 sacks in 2008, pathetic.

#35 Rams-OT Troy Kropog, Tulane
If the Rams do not take a tackle in the first round they will here.

#36 Browns-WR Hakeem Nicks, North Carolina
Stallworth didn’t work out as planned so Quinn needs a possession receiver opposite Edwards, and the Browns can still play around with Stallworth in the slot.

#37 Seahawks-S Rashad Johnson, Alabama
Safety desperately needs to be upgraded for the Seahawks secondary to ever get better.

#38 Bengals-TE Brandon Pettigrew, Oklahoma St
The Bengals seem to never have a top tight end; well they can put an end to that here with the top tight end in the draft.

#39 Jaguars-WR Percy Harvin, Florida
The Jaguars receiver problems are very well known, and they must be familiar with Harvin’s work.

#40 Raiders-WR Darius Heyward-Bey, Maryland
Even with a trade for Plax the Raiders receivers still suck so they need someone to start opposite him, and be a deep threat for that rocket launcher Russell has.

#41 Packers-DT Sen’Derrick Marks, Auburn
They could move him over to end in their 3-4 to boost their line.

#42 Bills-C Eric Wood, Louisville
The Bills must upgrade their interior offensive line if they want to remain competitive for an entire season.

#43 49ers-CB D.J. Moore, Vanderbilt
Walt Harris has really lost a step, or 73, and needs to be upgraded.

#44 Dolphins (F/WAS)-DT Ron Brace, BC
Parcells will be looking for a big guy to plug his 3-4 defensive front.

#45 Giants (F/NO)-WR Kenny Britt, Rutgers
With Plax on his way out the Eli needs a new big target to throw to.

#46 Texans-S William Moore, Missouri
The Texans have never had a stud safety or ballhawk in their franchise history, and Moore might solve all that.

#47 Patriots (F/SD)-ILB James Laurinaitis, Ohio State
A slide down the board for Laurinaitis but he just seems like a Belichick guy to me, and they need youth inside.

#48 Broncos-CB Alphonso Smith, Wake Forest
The Broncos cut Dre Bly; he sucked anyway, so they need a new starter opposite Bailey.

#49 Bears-DE Connor Barwin, Cincinnati
As raw as it gets but his talent is undeniable, the Bears need an upgrade to their pass rush.

#50 Buccaneers-DT Evander Hood, Missouri
The last time I wrote “the days of Sapp and Booger are long gone” and someone replied “I lol’d.” Well the Bucs just ranked 19th against the rush and their starting tackles are Chris Hovan and Jovan Hayes, I think that can be improved.

#51 Cowboys-S Patrick Chung, Oregon
The Cowboys safeties are awful I don’t get why Roy Williams is on an NFL roster, an upgrade is needed.

#52 Jets-CB Coye Francies, San Jose St
Ty Law started for the Jets this year.

#53 Eagles-OT Phil Loadholt, Oklahoma
Step three, if Loadholt drops this fair Reid won’t hesitate. Loadholt is massive and just what Reid likes in an offensive lineman, pairing him with his teammate Robinson and a power back later will finally allow the Eagles to convert 4th and 1.

#54 Vikings-C Jonathan Luigs, Arkansas
Matt Birk’s play really dropped off and he is unlikely to be resigned, so a replacement is needed.

#55 Falcons-TE Jared Cook, South Carolina
Cook had a fantastic combine so his stock will be on the rise, the missing piece to a lethal offense.

#56 Dolphins-G Andy Levitre, Oregon St
Justin Smiley does in fact blow; stop being a homer, thanks.

#57 Ravens-ILB Darry Beckwith, LSU
If Scott does leave, which is likely to happen, the Ravens will need a replacement.

#58 Patriots-CB Macho Harris, Virginia Tech
This guy can play multiple positions, something Belichick loves, and they need depth at corner and safety, something Harris can provide.

#59 Panthers-QB Nate Davis, Ball St
The Panthers need to start thinking about the post Delhomme era.

#60 Giants-CB/S Sean Smith, Utah
The Giants need a safety to play next to Phillips, and if they move Thomas there then they need corner depth, so this pick is perfect.

#61 Colts-WR Brian Robiskie, Ohio St
Someone to start opposite Wayne, and keep Gonzalez in the slot.

#62 Titans-CB Mike Mickens, Cincinnati
The Titans need an upgrade at their second corner position.

#63 Cardinals-C Antoine Caldwell, Alabama
The Cardinals must upgrade their center position.

#64 Steelers-G Herman Johnson, LSU
A Massive guard to help keep Big Ben standing.

#65 Lions-DE Robert Ayers, Tennessee
The Lions need an upgrade in their pass rush, and Ayers could go much higher than this.

#66 Rams-CB Mike Mickens, Cincinnati
The Rams have just been missing that cover guy for a long, long time now.

#67 Chiefs-RB Shonn Greene, Iowa
A power guy to go with the speedy Jamaal Charles.

#68 Seahawks-WR Juaquin Iglesias, Oklahoma
If they don’t take Crabtree at #4 they will be grabbing a receiver early on in the draft process.

#69 Dallas (F/CLE)-DT/DE Fili Moala, USC
Chris Canty left in free agency so he must be replaced.

#70 Bengals-WR Louis Murphy, Florida
If the Bengals lose both their starting receivers they will need someone to start opposite Chris Henry.

#71 Raiders-S Michael Hamlin, Clemson
Michael Huff might be cut, even if he is not they need an upgrade at this position.

#72 Jaguars-DT Jarron Gilbert, Jan Jose St
The Jaguars traded away Stroud and the defense was never the same.

#73 Packers-OT Xavier Fulton, Illinois
The Packers need an upgrade at both tackle spots, so this is step one.

#74 49ers-WR Brandon Gibson, Washington St
Gibson should go higher than this but he probably won’t, he is really underrated and a great addition to the 49ers here.

#75 Bills-TE James Casey, Rice
Probably not the tight end you see going 3rd in a lot of drafts but I really like this guy and the Bills need to upgrade this position.

#76 Redskins (F/NYJ/NO)-OT Jason Watkins
The Redskins also need help at both tackle spots so this is their step one.

#77 Texans-RB Rashad Jennings, Liberty
A big back to compliment budding star Steve Slaton.

#78 Chargers-OT Jamon Meredith, South Carolina
The Chargers have a serious need at right tackle so they upgrade it here.

#79 Broncos-RB Donald Brown, Connecticut
The Broncos need a true number one back as they went through about three dozen running backs last season, and Brown is a second round talent who looks like a good fit in the zone blocking scheme.

#80 Redskins-DT Terrance Taylor, Michigan
The Redskins need a penetrating force in the middle of the defensive line.

#81 Buccaneers-WR Brandon Tate, North Carolina
Antonio Bryant had a phenomenal season but the Bucs still need more weapons than him to throw to.

#82 Lions (F/DAL)-ILB Jason Phillips, TCU
Linebacker is a huge area of need for the Lions so they snag one here.

#83 Eagles-RB Andre Brown, North Carolina St
The Eagles grab their big power back here.

#84 Packers (F/NYJ)-OT Cornelius Lewis, Tennessee St
A reach, yea probably but this guy is a physical beast the Packers needed a second tackle.

#85 Bears-WR Ramses Barden, Cal Poly
Another reach but that happens on draft day so it should happen in mocks and I could see someone falling in love with this guy, he is enormous and exactly the type of possession receiver they need opposite Hester. Although they should let Hester just return kicks and stop tampering with him.

#86 Vikings-OT Fenuki Tupou, Oregon
The Vikings also have a major need at right tackle so they get their upgrade here. I hope Vikings fans like the offseason I gave them because I would love it.

#87 Dolphins-WR Mohamed Massaquoi, Georgia
A possession receiver to play opposite Ted Ginn Jr.

#88 Cardinals (F/BAL)-TE Shawn Nelson, Southern Miss
Another position the Cardinals need an upgrade at, and it might ease the loss of Boldin a little…. A little… maybe…. Probably not.

#89 Eagles (F/NE)-S Emanuel Cook, South Carolina
Dawkins is still a great in the box player and team leader but he is slipping in coverage.

#90 Falcons-DT Dorell Scott, Clemson
The Falcons need a boost in their rush defense.

#91 Giants-RB Javon Ringer, Michigan St
A replacement for Derrick Ward.

#92 Colts-RB Mike Goodson, Texas A&M
The Colts need someone reliable behind Addai, and though they signed James he is not going to play for much longer.

#93 Panthers-TE Cornelius Ingram, Florida
The Panthers have not had a reliable tight end threat since the days of Walls.

#94 Titans-OLB Marcus Freeman, Ohio St
Bulluck is 32 and in a contract year, I can’t imagine he will be re-signed.

#95 Cardinals-DT Sammie Lee Hill, Stillman
A massive body to pair with Watson.

#96 Steelers-CB Sherrod Martin, Troy
They lose Bryant in free agency.

Come on now... really? Are you not aware of how many needs the Jets actually have this off season. I highly doubt we get a guy like Garcia and then trade up to take a QB. Plus why does Bart Scott go to Denver. The only team he's talked about is the Jets. I don't know much about the CB you gave us, but if he's second round material its a good pick. Unfortunately with this scenario the Jets still are worried about:

Back-up RB, #1 WR, DE, Back-up NT, ILB, and S. You have us focussing money and draft picks to 1 position as 6 positions (4 of them starting) are left empty...

I think this could be good in the long run if Sanchez is good, but next year we'd have a worse season than this past year.

A guy who may be in jail for 2 years or suspended for half a season is worth a 4th rounder? No. Conditional 6th.

lolno for the Eagles. C/OG/OT in the first 2 rounds? Not a chance.

Decent patriots offseason there...Shep would be a goo pick up IMO although I've heard people saying he wouldn't go for anything more than a 4th. Crowder is a decent pick up, but why would be draft JL and sign crowder when we already have Mayo at on of the ILB positions. Also, if you are projecting Harris to S then that makes the draft that much better as safety is our biggest need.

Interesting Trade for Baltimore. I'd gladly give up a first rounder along with a 3rd for Boldin. He's a monster, but in the 2nd, give us Sean Smith!! He's a steal at the late 2nd round. We need CB's desperatly!!

Very solid Lions mock overall. The only pick I don't like is Matt Stafford, as he's overrated and not even close to a number one pick. I'd like to grab Oher or Monroe at pick one, and then grab Freeman at 20 (Sanchez if he's available.) However, Darius Butler and Robert Ayers are two beautiful Lions picks.

LetsGoGiants!
02-22-2009, 03:10 PM
I like the picks, but I don't think the Giants would pass up on Maclin if he was still available.

Give the Chiefs the best available OL (any position) in the 3rd and that's a solid draft, but I find it hard to believe that we don't make a splash in FA at all, given how much room we have.

Decent job.

you dont have the saints doing anything in free agency, leave us at 14 and let us skip a great free safety prosect like jenkins for wells who is just mweh value at 14, overall a bad situatino for the saints.

Bears first rounder is solid, but he would be a FS for us. A hell of a FS at that....far bigger need than another CB, though I suppose he could be tried there if the situation called for it.

2nd rounder is again solid....though I might opt to go for o-line help there. Loadholt to play RT or something.

LOVE the 3rd rounder.

DHB in the 2nd... No No No

Brown Leader
02-22-2009, 04:37 PM
That's a great scenario for the Browns. But I doubt the WR's will fall like this. Matthews, Robinson, Delmas, Johnson and McCoy all look like long shots for the 1st right now. Interesting trade. I wouldn't complain.

Taking Nicks with the first pick is better than trading for Boldin. Beckwith wouldn't be a bad option if 1 of our 2 FA ILB's left. CB would be a much better pick in the second however.

I hate those trades so much, especially the Browns trade.

Why would the Browns give up our 5th overall pick for someone who has been in the league for a while and never played in a 3-4 at OLB?

It doesn't make sense for us IMO.

I also don't think the Ravens trade makes much sense either, that's too much for a receiver who has had plenty of injury problems as well as a bit of an ego.

02-22-2009, 05:05 PM
Not really so much of a problem with the draft picks of the Bengals, the first two work (Pettigrew based on value), yet the team losing their two top receivers is highly unlikely. Marvin Lewis recently said if TJ leaves, Chad more than likely stays put. Also, Andre Caldwell will be taking TJ's place in the starting lineup, Henry will remain #3. I like the Derrick Ward pick-up.

Because he's better than anyone we would draft at that position at #5 who've also never played OLB in a 34.

Brutal eagles draft. Especially 1st round. No need for a guard, or a center that early. The picks would be Moreno and Pettigrew in the 1st.

That's the point, you'll be good in the future. Of course you're going to have a worse season in 09 than 08 you have no quarterback, hence getting Garcia to keep them competitive while Sanchez watches and learns.

Those trades would be interesting for the Redskins but would never happen...

The picks are questionable. Vontae Davis, eeeehhh.... We got Shawn Springs, Carlos Rogers, DeAngelo Hall, and Fred Smoot. Even if we let go of either Springs or Hall, were still set at corner.

The first 2 picks for the Phins are great! The 3rd makes no sense though. We need a center, not a guard, and if you think differently, then you simply are not well informed about Dolphin football.

BUT, if Sean Smith is STILL there by our 2nd 2nd round pick, WE HAVE TO TAKE HIM!! :)

Haynesworth's price tag will be too high for Denver, so I doubt that will happen. We won't need Maualuga if we get Bart Scott in free agency, so give us Maybin or English in the first. The rest is great!
