View Full Version : Rogers wants out of Cleveland?

As much as Eric Mangini has tried to change the culture in Cleveland, one of his biggest challenges now is changing the mind of Browns defensive tackle Shaun Rogers.

Rogers has grown so disenchanted with the situation in Cleveland that he has asked the Browns not to pick up the $6 million option-bonus payment due to him next month, a source close to the defensive tackle said. Rogers would rather be released after one season with the Browns, despite still being owed another $15 million in guaranteed money.

The Browns said Rogers hasnít asked them to be released.

Cutting Rogers would be difficult to do financially. If the Browns release Rogers, they would have to count more than $9.7 million against their salary cap.

Cleveland has no intention of getting rid of Rogers. It wants him back as the productive team member he was last season, when he was selected to the Pro Bowl. Mangini, according to those within the Cleveland organization, is still optimistic that he can change Rogersí mind once the two men speak. Mangini is said to have recently reached out to Rogers. Those who know Rogers say his mind will not be changed

That could shake up the draft a bit if they looked at Raji... Supposing he leaved of course.

I really wanted the Jets to trade for Shaun Rogers last year. Although I didn't know Kris Jenkins was on the market until the Jets actually traded for him.

He's not going anywhere. The question is will he play with the motor he had last year - not will he play in Cleveland. I think the answer depends on how good the Browns are this year.

But if the Browns have a demoralizing season he probably will be traded.

Top jumbo DT's like Rogers have become so valuable and hard to find that they have all types of leverage. That's what would scare me if my team signed Albert Haynesworth. If he decides that he's not happy for some reason he can just turn down the effort and he knows he's a lot harder to replace than just about any other kind of player in the NFL.

I could see Denver going for him if he gets cut.

If the Browns get some pass rush to improve their defense and Curry in the first round I don't think he'll complain too much.

What does it say about an organisation, or a team for that matter when someone who got out of DETROIT just one year ago is already unhappy.

What it says is, that guy is a malcontent. That's Rogers - tremendous athletic skills, huge personal issues.

This is what most Lions fans said would happen, he'd play great in Cleveland for a season and then start pulling his act again. No surprise.

Couldn't agree more.

I imagine he stays, but his heart won't stay...I think Browns fans can start looking at a bad run defense next season.

I don't think I wouldn't want to play for Mangini either, he comes off as a real prick.

well we have an easy schedule, and if we play closer to how we did in 2007 I don't think it'll be a problem. If we are a very average or bad team again I think it'll show with Shaun's effort. But there is no chance of a cut or trade this year b/c of his cap number.

Shaun Rogers is basically throwing a fit because he signed a contract he's not happy with 1 year in.

Why? Because it's possible that the deal Haynesworth gets will be worth twice what Rogers signed for.

This has little or nothing to do with Mangini... it just happens to be a good excuse

I feel sorry for Rogers. Has he ever had a winning season? He could've had a winning season if he didn't give up and stop playing the last 8 games of the 2007 season.

LOL, the Williamses would still be infinitely better than any team with Shaun Rogers. Those guys play hard every play, can't really say that with any type of certainty for Rogers or Haynesworth.

QFT.
Rogers in so on-off its bothering. I'm not sure he is worth trading for or a big contract. He usually only plays 8 games anyways.

I hope they let him go, that would be the one big name I would want the 49ers to go after. He would fit just right in the middle of our line.

Why in the world would they let him go? Just cause he's whining and saying "let me go"? Didn't they trade a second round pick for him?

I didnt say they would, I said I HOPE... It would be a bad move to release him, he is a very good DT. Isnt his nick name Baby or something?

No, the Browns traded a 3rd round pick and Leigh Bodden, who has since been released.

This was a terrible trade to begin with for the Lions, but if Bodden comes back to the Browns and plays like he did in his first stint in Cleveland, it makes a bad trade even worse

And i'm saying, keep hoping cause there's little to no chance in hell that happens.

I wanted a guy with coaching experience, then we got Mangini...
