Giants signed RB Brandon Jacobs to a four-year, $25 million contract. The deal includes $15 million in the first two years.
The guarantee (over $12.5 million) is impressive, but this isn't a market altering deal. Jacobs almost certainly could've gotten more had he avoided the franchise tag. But it allows him to reenter free agency at age 30 and probably get another decent contract. The Giants were likely unwilling to go overboard because Jacobs isn't an every-down player. But as a 264-pound bone crushing power back on the upswing of his career, he's indispensable. Assuming Jacobs stays healthy, he should set a personal high for carries in 2009 with Derrick Ward likely gone. Feb. 25 - 5:43 pm et
