Here are my predictions for the trend in this draft

I think there will be 4 main trends:

1. There will be a run on Dlinemen and OLB ( particularly NT, 3-4 DEs and 3-4 OLBs).
The free agency market for these positions is reasonably thin, which means teams are going to have to look to the draft.

Green Bay, Denver and Kansas City are switching to a 3-4 plus Cleveland, San Diego, Miami, Dallas, New England, 49ers and maybe New York Jets very likely intend upgrading their front-7 as a priority; Baltimore will almost certainly need LBs.

Green Bay, Denver and Kansas City will likely need considerable numbers.

This will mean other teams wanting these positions may need to draft a little earlier than they would normally.

4-3 WLBs (and maybe ILBs) will likely slip

2. RB will slip both due to lack of overwhelming physical standouts (which we had in previous years), the fact that few teams have RB as their major needs and the fact that many teams now use multiple RB sets.

3. There will be a run on OTs. Alot of teams have major needs at tackle (either now or in the very near future) due to a combination of very poor Olines and aging players. This includes Detroit, St Louis, Jacksonville, Oakland, Chicago, Washington, Philadelphia, Minnesota, San Diego, San Fransisco, Dallas, Seattle, Pittsburgh.

The free agency market for these positions is reasonably thin, which means teams are going to have to look to the draft.

Indeed a case could be made that a team like the Rams could need 2 OTs;

This is without considering other teams with solid tackles who may want to consider upgrading for the future (eg: NY Giants, Green Bay, Cincinnati)

This may push centers and guards a little lower than they normally would

4. The CB class will slip a little without the numbers of physical standouts (which we had in previous years) and the strength of the safety group.

Jacksonville are apparantly going to use 3-4 fronts as well, so add them into the 3-4 teams looking to upgrade DL and OLB as a draft priority

Michael C. Wright, of The Florida Times-Union, reports the Jacksonville Jaguars plan to incorporate some 3-4 defense into their scheme in 2009.

Groves and Harvey at OLB, Durant and Smith inside(?), Ellison at NT, Henderson and Meier at DE?

and absolutely no depth....

at the very least they will need a NT, DE and OLB at some point

Ellison is more than a little risky at NT; there is a reason he is a former Panther/49er/Raven and has not made the field in 3 seasons
If he was a reasonable 3-4 NT option, there is little chance the 49ers would have let him get away.

Meier is solid, but nothing special

Quentin Groves is unproven (though with potential), Harvey still has some way to go (though has shown promise)
