Sheppard traded to the Jets for a '09 5th and '10 conditional pick.

Good deal for both teams. Jets making another strong push this year.

a fifth? regardless of how he's played and acted recently... this is a good trade for the jets.

damn

Nice move, hopefully he plays well enough to get us a 2nd round pick in 2010. A 5th this year just gives us more ammo to move around.

That's a good trade for the Jets. I would have given up a 5 as the Patriots.

The 2010 pick could be anywhere between a second and fourth-round pick, presumably depending on Sheppard's playing time

I'm assuming if he starts all year the eagles get a '10 2nd rounder, and if he doesn't play for some reason, we get a 4th, that's a pretty good deal, but a little anti-climatic for now.

oooooooooo @ '10 2nd rounder. That makes more sense now.

Which is always good, you guys seem to do a lot of moving around in the draft; especially this year with 2 firsts???

I'm sure the conditional pick is tied to # of games played as well as performance, so if he plays all 16 games I'm sure you guys get the 2nd next year. I would be happy with giving up a 5th and 2nd if the plays the full season and plays up to his capability.

Good deal for both teams.

They are making some bold moves, but wake me up when they get a QB. They'll have a tough schedule this year and they don't have that much juice in their passing game right now, I don't see them winning with Kellen Clemens.

What about Brett Ratliff? :D

Why not? Because he didn't do well behind the Jets 2007 swiss cheese offensive line? Pennington went 1-7 behind that line and look at him in '08.

Pennington's done well before. Favre struggled last year coming off a monster season in Green Bay's talented offense, Clemens and Ratliff have little to no experience and no where near that kind of talent. If they have to rely on those two there'll be big growing pains even if they end up being good QBs later in their careers.

IMO, a big part of Favre's struggles were due to Laveranues Coles' inability to be that deep threat Favre needed. Clemens has already had some growing pains playing on the Jets 2007 offense. Unfortunately, people seem to look at that and see someone who needs to be replaced.

Clemens will be able to lead the team. The Jets will be a run, run, run team. After theyre done running, thats when theyll run. Clemens will be able to hand the ball off.

Hopefully it's something crazy that he has to do to make it a 2nd rounder.

How much tread does Lito have left on the tires?

BlindSite

Probably relies on a few things, like he has to get X INTs and give up less than X amount of TDs.

Either way, the Jets are making some big waves this year, just the same as last year. Hopefully they get the draft right for a change.

They should trade for Chad Pennington.

Its based on playing time, isnt it?

Mark Sanchez will lead this team to victory

Jets need a receiver to compliment Cotchery and a QB and they will look solid going into next year.

It's about time they got rid of Lito.

They could still trade for Derek Anderson...That would be giving up alot of picks on two guys, but honestly Anderson is a better option then someone like Freeman or anyone they have so if your going to make a run why not.

Nice trade for us.

As far as not thinking we'll succeed with Clemens...eh...rarely do non-elite QB prospects ever get looked at as the QB of the future anyway...and even then no QB gets the benefit of the doubt on leading a team anywhere until he's done it.

Basically, we could win with Clemens. It's just also highly possible we can't.

Well, I guess there goes that Lance Moore for Lito Sheppard rumor.

Doesn't it suck how trades that seem to make so much sense as fans never seem to come to fruition in the NFL?

How does Lance Moore make sense? Is he a #1? No. So no, he makes no sense. The Eagles already have a cluster**** of non-#1 receivers. Why add another one?

5th and a conditional for a #4 corner? Robbery.

Yeah, certainly a good trade for both. Not really robbery on either side.

Sheppard signed to a 4 year $27.2 million extention.

Jets | Sheppard receives contract extension
Sun, 01 Mar 2009 10:56:22 -0800
Rich Cimini, of the New York Daily News (http://www.kffl.com/link/238), reports the New York Jets (http://www.kffl.com/team/27/nfl) have given CB Lito Sheppard (http://www.kffl.com/player/1446/nfl) a four-year contract extension worth $27.2 million that will begin in 2010. However, the deal will only kick in if the Jets (http://www.kffl.com/team/27/nfl) decide to pay a $10 million option bonus in March 2010. If Sheppard misses considerable time during the season, they would only have to trade a fifth-round draft choice to the Philadelphia Eagles (http://www.kffl.com/team/29/nfl). The conditional 2010 draft choice will be a second-round draft choice if Sheppard plays 85 percent of the season and receives the four-year extension.

That's a whole lot of money for a #4 corner.

I'm liking the details of the deal more now. If Lito wants to see that money, he's going to need to earn it. If he plays back to pro bowl form, he'll probably get the extension and the 2nd rounder will be well worth it. If he doesn't well, a fifth rounder on a flier for Lito Sheppard is a good deal too. :)

Should've traded him to the Saints for their 2nd last year, so they could've gotten Forte. Oh well, as long as he's gone I'm happy.
