I also like this. Gilbert, Wood, Urbik and Lewis would be great.

My worry in this type of situation is with Mack and Unger being gone by 37, I think we'd be lucky for Wood to last til 64. I even noticed you had Luigs going in between...anything can happen, but I'd think Wood would be more likely to go and Luigs would be more likely to last, and I don't hear as many good things about him as I do Mack/Unger/Wood.

The 3 round mock gives you a nice feel of what could happen. Something about the top of the 2nd round I love and since you perfectly executed the trade down from the 1st, I'll go the other way, and say I'd love to stay put at the 1st for Mack, or in this case Unger. And then trade up in the 2nd (maybe giving up our 2nd and 3rd) for Gilbert. Hopefully we'll get a comp 3rd rounder as it seems projected, allowing a move like I mentioned even more doable.

I'm never against trading down, but if we already have 9 picks, and obviously have a great and deep team, I'd be more open to a trade down out of the 1st for a 2nd/3rd and 2010 1st rounder rather than stock piling more picks this year. It's also why I think I prefer staying put in the 1st and trading up in the 2nd, to get quality over quantity.

My thoughts exactly! I don't think Gilbert will last that long? and I hate seeing all those good names gone before we pick. Seems like too much is left to chance/luck hoping that someones there at 45? I'd rather stay in the 1st and grab more mid round picks!

Just want to know, if Gilbert is gone by #45, Who would we pick then?

Fenuki Tupou, Jamon Meredith, Jarius Byrd or Evander Hood would be my guess. Maybe Brian Robiskie. I would be happy with any of those.

A few of my favorites that went in the 10 picks prior to 45 therefore being conceivable are Max Unger, William Beatty and Sean Smith. As for who is there, I like Jamon Meredith, Fenuki Tupou, Fili Moala, Eric Wood, Macho Harris, Ron Brace, Coye Francies and Troy Kropog.

with those names still there, (hypothetically), it doesn't seem so bad picking at 45! But i really want Unger, Britton, Beatty, or Smith and they won't last that long.
I like the thought of getting Unger, Britton or Beatty in the 1st and moving up to get Gilbert in the 2nd; whatever happens after that I could handle as long as we secured a few STUDs with the 1st 2 picks!!!
you can't trade comp picks right? otherwise i would love to trade 2 3rd rnd picks for high 2nd!
I can't believe the draft is almost here! I'm going crazy!!!! Thank God for you guys!!!

Why are so many people so high on Unger. Didn't anyone watch the senior bowl workouts where Raji catapulted him into the endzone. Everytime I watch him I think of Mahan; technically sound but a weakling against macho nose tackles. Mack seems more like my kind of Steeler; Mike Webster2009.

Almost any center is going to get pushed back 1 on 1 with BJ Raji. I like Mack and Unger so this isn't a Mack vs Unger argument. But Unger put on about 12lbs since the Senior Bowl and looked good in the combine. He's got the potential to add even more weight on and be a stud center. What we all saw at the Senior Bowl is far from somebody's ceiling.

Possible Lion,...and very sound moves if we do not trade up,...as opposed to reaching at 32 in terms of "protection".

Being out here in CA, I think Oregon's Olinemen (Unger) are way nastier and physical than the Cal (Mack/Marvin Phillip) guys. But all the scouting reports say both men are physical, mauler type linemen!

the knocks on Mack: not great balance, heavy feet, late to react to pass protection, average body control, lunges - overextends and lands on the ground.

the knocks on Unger: not nimble footed and struggles to sustain on the move, plays short armed and lets defenders too close to his body.

If you look at it on paper these things stand out:
Mack was a kick ass wrestler and played Center for 4 years. And can do the splits!
Unger played LT for 2 years and Center for 2 years. And has a crazy beard!

Seems like a draw...but it's Ungers versatility that wins me over!

I was thinking recently about how I'd perfectly content with an Oregon-draft involving 1st-Unger, 2nd-Byrd and 3rd-Tupou. Bring on the Ducks!

Exactly...all I really want is at least one of their Olineman in this draft. If we don't get any Ducks, whoever we pick better be good!
