Round 1
1. Detroit-Matthew Stafford/QB/Georgia
Detriot has needs everywhere but when you look at there offense, they have got many pieces set in place with a monster WR in CJ, a quality RB in Jones, and some talented o-linemen in Backus and Cherlis. Adding Stafford gives them a huge boost for the future and most importantly, gives them a new face of there franchise and someone to build around.
2. St. Louis-Jason Smith/OT/Baylor
With the addition on Jason Brown at Guard, look for them to add Smith to give them one of the youngest most talented left sides in the game. Steven Jackson's career will be rejuvenated which means the Rams have a bigger chance to put up wins
3. Kansas City-Aaron Curry/LB/Wake Forest
Easiest pick IMO. Curry is by far and away the best player in the draft as well as the most safest. With the addition of Cassell, they would like to get him some weapons but with no WR worth this high a pick, they add a monster playmaker on the defensive side of the ball that they so desperately need. Curry, Derrick Johnson, Dorsey, Hali, Flowers, tremendous building blocks for KC.
4. Seattle- Eugene Monroe/OT/Virginia
With the addition of T.J. Houshmanzadeh, look for Seattle's WR corp to take a step forward from last years dissapointing season. With T.J. in the mix, Hasselbeck still needs some protection and Monroe is arguable the safest tackle availible and is an instand upgrade at RT and once Walter Jones is gone, he can be a great successor.
5. Cleveland- Michael Crabtree/WR/Texas Tech
With the loss of Kellen Winslow, who was arguable Brady Quinns favorite target, and the questions surrounding Edwards and him being traded as well as the question of "can he catch a football" I think it is fair to say that in order for Brady Quinn(or any other young maturing) to succeed they are going to need some good players around them. Even if Braylon stays, its obvious that they can't depend on him as a #1 threat but him AND Crabtree would be a great duo and really help the growth of Quinn.
6. Cincinnati- B.J. Raji/DT/Boston College
With Monroe, J. Smith, and Crabtree al gone, Raji is simply the BPA that fills the biggest need. He joins Rogers, Ngata, Gregg, and Hampton in a great group of DT in the AFc North.
7. Oakland- Andre Smith/OT/Alabama
Many people think Al will take Maclin here, but Maclin didn't put up that high 40 time that Davis craves. So I do think they will pass on him here for Andre Smith. He has arguably the highest ceiling out of all the Tackles in the draft(maybe Jason Smith) and when he is in shape, he is a monster. If he pans out for the Raiders, it will be HUGE for there whole offense. Russell will get some quality protection and there run game gets a whole lot better.
8. Jacksonville- Jeremy Maclin/WR/Missouri
With Andre, Jason and Monroe all gone, Maclin should be an easy pick. I can't see why people think Sanchez is going to be the pick. It wasn't Garrards fault he had a bad season last year. His o-line broke down to injuries and lack of depth and his recievers had hands of feathers. Add in Maclin and he has a consistent go to guy who can catch the ball. I gave em Maclin over Oher because Garrard is a fairly mobile QB and can survive with a halfway decent o-line as long as his WR's can catch the football.
9. Green Bay- Brian Orakpo/OLB/DE/Texas
When you look at the most dominate 3-4 in the league(Pittsburgh Steelers) you see that they have TWO elite pass rushers. That is a huge key, having a good pass rush really benefits the secondary(look at the Baltimore Ravens) and can make them appear to be alot better than they really are. Orakpo AND Kampman on the same LB corps chasing after the QB is a nighmare and should really help Green Bay's defense out.
10. San Francisco- Michael Oher/OT/Mississippi
For some reason, 9er fans believe in Shaun Hill. I can't see why and I never will. He is 29 and never looked to be a "great" QB, but if Singletary is willing to give him a chance to succeed, he'd better give him alot of help. Oher and Staley is a great duo at OT and would give Shaun Hill great pass protection as well as benefiting Frank Gore.I personally believe Sanchez should be the pick, but the 49ers don't seem to be much interested in him.
11. Buffalo-Aaron Maybin/OLB/Penn. State
The Bills need an upgrade at OLB and DE. Maybin can essentially play both in the 4-3 and he improves there pass rush.
12. Denver-Everette Brown/OLB/Florida State
With the Broncos switching to a 3-4, they are going to need some very good pass rushing OLB's. Brown is by far the best availible and a great fit for the job.
13. Washington- Clint Sintim/OLB/Virginia
With the loss of Marcus Washington, they need a SLB. Sintim is a terrific fit and can start from day 1 and be an impact player. He should benefit with all the talent around him. (Haynesworth, Landry, Rogers, Mcintosh, and Flether)
14. New Orleans- Malcolm Jenkins CB/FS/Ohio State
This would be a dream scenario for the Saints. They get a guy who can play both CB and Free Safety. Both are big needs and the Saints get a huge steal here. He will most likely play FS, but a tandem of Tracy Porter and Jenkins would be nice as well.
15. Houston-Vontae Davis/CB/Illinois
With Maybin off the board, Davis seems to be a easy choice. He might have some character concerns but he is a huge upgrade at the #2 corner spot and can even play nickel. If his character is taken care of, he could be a huge steal at #15. Dunta and Davis, with Mario rushing the passer expect big things for the Texan defense next year.
16. San Diego-Tyson Jackson/DE/LSU
This should be an easy choice for San Deigo. Igor Olshankley(sp) was a huge part if there 3-4 amd with him gone there pass rush takes a huge hit, lucky for them, Tyson Jackson is in this years draft and is expected to be at there pick. He should be alot better than Igor and an ideal replacement.
17. N.Y. Jets- Mark Sanchez/QB/USC
I know its been said that the starting QB for next year is already on the roster, but if Sanchez were to fall to the Jets, I can't see Rex passing him up, not after what he witnessed in Baltimore with Flacco and Harbaugh. They already have a solid o-line in place and a good running game. Not to mention a stacked defense. Very similar to the sitituation Joe Flacco was in last year in Baltimore. Strong Defense, good run game and o-line. If Sanchez does fall to New York, expect him to be the pick, and expect big things from him.
18. Chicago- Hakeem Nicks/WR/UNC
With Orton set to be the starter next year, expect the Bears to give him weapons to work with. Nicks is an ideal compliment to Hester and should give Orton a constand go to guy with great hands as well as YAC ability. However, for some reason, many GM's and scouts have Nicks as a late first/early second so this pick might be a consenus on many mock drafts, but expect differently on draft day.
19. Tampa Bay- Peria Jerry/DT/Mississippi
When you look at the Bucs defense, you see alot of young talented players however they don't have a quality DT. Every successful defense has a strong presence in the trenches and Jerry is an ideal fit in Tampa and expect the defensive minded Hc, Morris to snatch him up in an instant.
20. Detroit-William Beatty/OT/Connecticut
With Vontae taken, I think the Lions will opt for protection of there "franchise QB" over defensive playmakers.(Alphonso Smith in particular) Beatty had a terrific combine and IMO pushed himself ahead of Eben Britton. Adding Beatty alows Jeff Backus to move to Guard, so they basically improve 2 positions with 1 selection. RT Goster CherlisLT- Beatty, LG- Backus not a bad start for an 0-16 team if you ask me.
21. Philadelphia- Kenny Britt/WR/Rutgers
I really can't see Philly taking Moreno here. They are a pass first team and with that being said I think Britt is a better pick. He gives McNabb that big strong WR who is great after the catch. He is a terrific compliment to DeSean Jackson and adding Britt, moves Curtis to the slot where he could be the next Wes Welker. Britt blosters there WR corp and for a team like Philly, its not a luxury, its a need.
22. Minnesota-Alphonso Smith/CB/Wake Forest
Alphonso Smith is a straight up playmaker and he is a nice fit in Minnesota, he could learn alot from Winfield who is similiar to him in terms of height.
23. New England- Larry English/OLB/DE/Northern Illinois
With the loss of Mike Vrabel, look for New England to get a replacment for him early. English can play OLB in a 3-4 and he would be a great addition to the Patriots LB corps. Mayo, English and Thomas is a nice group and expect big things from em.
24. Atlanta- Brian Cushing/OLB/USC
If I remember correctly Atlanta lost both there OLB's to FA this offseason so look for them to be looking for replacments. Cushing is probably the best availbile that fits in nicely. Look for him to play the SLB and be an upgrade from Michael Boley.
25. Miami- Rey Maualuga/ILB/USC
With Maualuga falling all the way to #25, I just can't see Miami passing on him. I don't know if they retained Crowder but even if they did, adding a guy like Rey to an already talented LB can never hurt a defense. Akin Ayodele isn't the best and Rey is a huge upgrade.
26. Baltimore- Brandon Pettigrew/TE/Oklahoma State
The Ravens could go with Heyward-Bey here, but I think Pettigrew is the safer pick. He gives Flacco a big tall target who can work the middle of the field effectivly and most importantly, he is a great blocker in the run game. A typical "john harbaugh" football player who'd be a great fit for the Ravens.
27. Philadelphia- Knowshon Moreno/RB/Georgia
Eagle fans should consider this more of a luxury pick. He is the type of RB that can take alot of pressure off Westbrook and carry the full load if need be. If the Eagles had any plans to get rid of Westbrook, I'm sure they'd be fine with Moreno. I doubt they do that but both on the same team would be a huge plus for them.
28. Indianapolis- Darrius Heyward-Bey/WR/Maryland
Heyward-Bey should be the happiest man in the draft if he ends up in Indy. He'd be learning from the best in the buisiness and he would really shine in there system. Playing next to guys like Gonzo, Wayne, and Manning. Expect huge things from him if he ends up in Indy.
29. N.Y. Giants- Darius Butler/CB/ Conneticutt
If you ask me, the Giants are the most complete team in the NFL. With that being said, this draft for them should jsut be a bonus, where they should just take the BPA. In this case, it is probably Chris Wells but they have no need for him so they take Butler, who is arubably the best CB availible. Cory Webster and Aaron Ross are solid CB's but you can always get better and
Butler good addition.
30. Tennessee- Sean Smith/CB/Utah
The Titans already have a grat #1 corner in Cortland Finnegean but across from him, they need to get younger and add more depth. Sean Smith is probably the best corner left and a better pass Defense should be a huge priority since they will have to hold up longer w/o Haynesworth's pass rush.
31. Arizona- Chris Wells/RB/Ohio State
Wells is top 15 talent but he could very well fall to the Cardnails. Nonetheless, he'd be a terrific fit in Arizona. He can be a workhorse and he'd have a nice long career since he won't be carring th ball much anyways since the Cards are a pass heavy team.
32. Pittsburgh- Eben Britton/OT/Arizona
Center is not Pittsburghs worst position, its gatta be tackle. Adding Britton who is probably the best pass blocker availible will give Big Ben some protection in the pass game, however, he won't offer much in the run game. Either way, its still an upgrade from Marvel Smith.
1. Detroit-Matthew Stafford/QB/Georgia
Detriot has needs everywhere but when you look at there offense, they have got many pieces set in place with a monster WR in CJ, a quality RB in Jones, and some talented o-linemen in Backus and Cherlis.
