Zero... For a few reasons...
1. At the #1 spot you generally have to draft a premium position (QB/LT/DE) because of the huge signing bonus and contract that the position demands... DT is just a notch below those in value depending on scheme.
2. With 3 other picks in the top 64 they have the ammunition to aquire the quality DT they need at a later, but still early, pick.
3. Sedrick Ellis, a similar player last year lasted until the 7th pick.
4. DT has not been selected #1 for 15 years (Dan Wilkinson), and Raji is not the best DT in the last 15 years.

Zero, this is not the first thread on this exact subject either.

Then the franchise still hasn't changed, if they pick Raji. There are a couple of guys they can take later on(Jerry, Hood, and Brace), plus, next year draft is going to be stacked with linemen on the defensive side.

I wouldn't say it's a zero chance, they could badly misspell "Stafford" on the draft card...

Not gonna happen. Now if they say, drafted Stafford #1 overall and Schwartz felt that Raji could be his next Haynesworth and he traded up from #20 to get him, then it's much more plausible. Still doubtful though....

I could be wrong and would not be the first time but I just feel Det is going to go OT.

As a Bears fan I hope so. Then I know for sure they wont be competitive for even longer.

Who are their starting DTs?
It would probably be the result of them trading down a bit (maybe Seattle) and then taking B.J. Dont see it happening, at least with Raji. They might take someone else like Aaron Curry if they think he's clearly the best player out there but as it stands it's a near lock they'll take Stafford.

They aren't even talking with Raji, I'd put the odds at about a thousandth of a percent.

Raji went to Detroit and visited a week or so ago.
IMO, I think Raji makes more sense than Aaron Curry. That being said, however, if Detroit picks Raji over Jason Smith or Matt Stafford the Lions made a huge mistake.

Maybe if Raji was a clone of Warren Sapp.. But Raji's highlight (yea I know) tape is very impressive to me.. Reminds me of Vince Wilfork for some reason.. Except more nimble feet.

I'd take BJ Raji over Jason Smith. I wouldn't take him over Eugene Monroe though.

if you don't take Stafford as your future quaterback, then you have take the best defensive player (Curry) or the best offensive lineman (Munroe). You've got the 20th pick.....consider Josh Freeman at that point if you want a quaterback and if you're convinced he won't slide to the 2nd round. If you think Freeman will slide, then use the 20th pick to take the best defender (Sintim) or offensive lineman (Oher, Britton) on the board again.
Either way the Lions need serious OL help and defensive help (you can pick up several potential OL starters in this draft). You've got receivers and a back....build a nasty OL to become a force.

I'd take BJ Raji over Jason Smith. I wouldn't take him over Eugene Monroe though.
I wouldn't. Raji is an average 1st rounder at best and would be a mid first round pick in most draft years. He's getting pushed up the pack because the top end of this draft stinks. I would agree with Monroe over Jason except I'm hearing more and more on NFL Network that teams are really concerned with Monroe's knees and I don't think we can take a chance on a prospect who isn't 100% healthy. Jason isn't a top end prospect in most drafts either and his ceiling is pretty low for a guy who may go #1 or #2 in the draft. He has no experience as a run blocker and is only ranked as the #3 pass blocker in the draft. His body is pretty well maxed out and with all the other question marks, his bust potential is actually quite high.
Personally I don't think the teams drafting in the top 5 in this draft are really going to get much out of this draft unless Detroit gets lucky with a QB. A team drafting at #12 probably is looking at a prospect who is only marginally ranked lower than the guy who will go #1. It is simply not the year to hold a high pick.

I say 10%, they'll probably take OT or Qb first and then they might draft Raji, but they'll have to move up.
He never mentioned anything about #1 overall.
