Do I have the record for most mocks in an offseason yet??? lol
Anyways, Did 2 rounds, probably made alot of mistakes but whatever, please -
Comment and Critize :)
Round One
1) Detroit Lions – Jason Smith, OT Baylor - Okay, if they draft Stafford, he won't play from day 1, if he does he will be ruined. He won't make any immediate impact. However, take Jason Smith, and they give themselves a Tackle who is very athletic, tremendous pass blocker, improving run blocker, very young and he still is getting better. Someone who will lock down there left side for 8-10 years. Plus, adding Smith moves Jeff Backus to OG so basically they upgrade there line 2 areas with 1 pick. Plus, I think Dante Cullpeper can give them enough solid play to contend, even if they took Stafford, Cullpeper would be starting anyways.
2) St Louis Rams – Eugene Monroe, OT Virginia - Honestly, I think Monroe fits the Rams better than Jason Smith so I doubt their upset with Smith going #1 overall. Monroe is probably the more rounded tackle than Smith, a better run blocker (St. Louis is a run first team) and he comes from a team that has produced great tackle prospects in Brandon Albert and that other guy. So the Rams get a very safe pick here with Monroe and he fills a very big need.
3) Kansas City Chiefs – Aaron Curry, OLB Wake Forest - This is probably the most obvious pick in the draft. It makes perfect sense and I don't feel like explaining it. Its just a great match. :)
4) Seattle Seahawks – Matt Stafford, QB Georgia - The Seahawks miss out on two of the best tackles in the draft, but they get the best QB as a consolation price. Now lets evaluate there offense real quick- Walker Jones is still a solid LT, they just added a big possession WR, but Hasselbeck is 33 years old and coming off an injury. So if the #1 Qb in the draft fell to them, I can't see how they can pass him up.
5) Cleveland Browns – Brian Orakpo, OLB/DE Texas - I've been giving them Michael Crabtree here for the longest time, but I've gone back to Orakpo. He has had a great combine and a solid pro day to back it up and has done nothing to shake up his stock. He gives the Browns a consistent pass rush to compliment Wimbley and possibly take some pressure off of him. Adding Orakpo could lead to the resurgence of Wimbley, which gives Cleveland two VERY effective pass rushers off the edge to copy what Pittsburgh and Baltimore do so effectively.
6) Cincinnati Bengals – Andre Smith, OT Alabama - I think LT is just so far and away there biggest need I can really see them reach for Andre Smith. He has the potential to be a STUD pass blocker and a very nasty run blocker. Just what Cincinnati needs... if he pans out.
7) Oakland Raiders – Michael Crabtree, WR Texas Tech - I think all this "Al Davis wants speed guys" is taken to extremes. Its obvious that Michael Crabtree is a playmaker with a 40 time or not. Al Davis has enough common sense to see that as well and I can't see him pass up an opportunity to give his maturing QB an elite WR like Crabtree. He is the missing piece in Oaklands offense and fills a huge need.
8) Jacksonville Jaguars – Jeremy Maclin, WR Missouri - There o-line might be a big problem for them, you gotta remember that Garrard is a very mobile QB and can make great throws on the run, but what good is it when your receivers can't even catch the ball? Add in Maclin and Garrard will still be running in the backfield, but at least he's got a go-to-guy that can catch the football, and an added bonus is this little "go to guy" is a threat to score whenever he's got the ball.
9) Green Bay Packers – B.J. Raji, NT Boston College - With Green Bay making the switch to a 3-4, they need to important things, 2 effective pass rushers off the edge, they have 1 in Kampman and an elite NT, which they don't have at all. Raji fills that void and is the key to any 3-4 defense. He is penetrating DT that will stuff the run and get after the QB.
10) San Francisco 49ers – Michael Oher, OT Ole Miss - I will NEVER understand why San Fran is going to roll with Shaun Hill and Alex Smith. Sure Hill showed "some signs" but heres a fact, he is 29 years old and even if he is an effective starter, he isn't going to be the QB to lead them to the super bowl, let alone a playoff appearance, but if they really want to go with Hill, they should at least give him some weapons to throw to or some improved protection. A duo of Oher and Staley has the potential to be the best Tackle tandem in the league and will leave San Fran set at LT and RT for the next 8 years. (BTW, I just found out that they signed Marvel Smith, but lets be real, he isn't any franchise Tackle, plus Oher could use some competition. Don't rule out Everette Brown)
11) Buffalo Bills – Brandon Pettigrew, TE Oklahoma State - Brandon Pettigrew might not be a 4.3 TE who can score on any play, but the guy really has no weakness. He is good at everything a TE needs to be good at. He's a great and willing blocker as well as a good passing threat. He's got great hands, decent speed for a TE and he's very physical. Add him into an offense with Terrell Owens, Marshawn Lynch, Freddy Jackson, Lee Evans and you will see Trent Edwards put up great numbers. It will all come down however, to the play of Jason Peters.
12) Denver Broncos – Malcolm Jenkins, CB/S Ohio State - I opted for Jenkins over Brown for many reasons. First, I think Elvis Dumerville will be an effective 3-4 OLB pass rusher for them. Secondly, I see Jenkins as the safer player and he will benefit the Bronco's better. Champ is still one of the best in the game but outside of him there is nothing. Add in Jenkins and they have a top 3 defensive backfield and one of the most aggresive as well. And when/if Dawkins retires, Jenkins could even play FS if need be. He is a safer pick than Brown and will contribute more.
13) Washington Redskins – Everette Brown, OLB/DE Florida State - Normally, I'd give them Sintim here, because he fills a huge void at SLB replacing Marcus Washington, but Brown is just too good to pass up here. With the addition of Haynesworth, he immediately takes attention off the rest of the d-line which will mean Everette Brown will have it much easier to get after the QB. Last year the Skins had a terrible pass rush. They year they look to be one of the better pass rushing teams with Andre Carter, Haynesworth, and Everette Brown.
14) New Orleans Saints – Chris Wells, RB Ohio State - Wells brings the power running game back into New Orleans. Last time they had it they went all the way to the NFCCG. They've got a dynamic passing game, game breaking RB's and a defense that can hold its own given they have a comfortable lead. Wells and his style of running is the missing piece.
15) Houston Texans – Brian Cushing, OLB USC - Morlon Greenwood (i think) has been replaced and adding Cushing to there already young and talented defense is a really good move.
16) San Diego Chargers – Tyson Jackson, DE LSU - I can't see how they pass on Jackson if he's available. He is the best 3-4 DE and with the loss of Igor (who was a huge part of there 3-4) they need to get a replacement.
17) New York Jets – Mark Sanchez, QB USC - I doubt Rex will pass up Sanchez. Not after what he witnessed in Baltimore with Joe Flacco and John Harbaugh. Sanchez is a nice fit in New York and they already have a nice foundation in place with Ferguson, Mangold, and Fancea. Plus a solid run game and decent WR's. Not to mention a STACKED defense.
18) Chicago Bears – Hakeem Nicks, WR UNC - With RT more of a 2nd round need with the addition of Shaffer so I decided to give them Nicks. He is an ideal compliment to Hester and his style of play. He is a tough physical WR with great hands. He's the #1 option they lack in there passing game. Don't rule out Kenny Britt either, he in my mind is just a bigger version of Nicks with better speed.
19) Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Josh Freeman, QB Kansas State - While Raheem Morris might be a defensive minded head coach, he knows that a franchise goes nowhere without a QB and Tampa Bay hasn't had a "true" face of the franchise for a VERY long time. Morris was with Freeman at Kansas State and has alot of good things to say about him. If Freeman is still availible at 19, I'm sure Morris would love to reunite with Josh Freeman.
20) Detroit Lions – Peria Jerry, DT Ole Miss - Detriot needs to start building up from the trenches. That is where the games are won and Peria Jerry is a great pick at #20. He fills a hole at DT and will be a key building block for there defense for the next couple years.
21) Philadelphia Eagles – Kenny Britt, WR Rutgers - I can't see how the Eagles can pass on Britt. He would be a monster in there pass happy offense and he's a terrific compliment to DeSean Jackson. He's strong, physical, has great hands and underrated speed. Fantastic height (McNabb loves tall WRs) and he gets great YAC. If he lands in Philly, look for him to lead all rookie WR's in catches and maybe even yards.
22) Minnesota Vikings – Eben Britton, OT Arizona - Ryan Cook isn't suited to be there RT and they already have a replacment for Birk in Sullivan. So I gave them Britton here. He is probably the best pass blocker availible and he will be manning that RT spot for 8-9 years.
23) New England Patriots – Rey Maulaluga, ILB USC - Rey Maulaluga and Jerod Mayo ILB tandem is a scary scary thing. Need I say more?
24) Atlanta Falcons – Michael Johnson, DE Georgia - With Cushing gone, I wasn't sure what to do with the Falcons so I gave them Michael Johnson. This guy's talent is top 10 but he's got other questions. However, playing alongside John Abraham should erally help him out and if he pans out, Falcons get themselves a HUGE steal in Johnson.
25) Miami Dolphins – Vontae Davis, CB Illinois - Talentwise, Vontae is a lock for the top 15 but character issues could drop him but I doubt Parcells could pass on him this late. Its just WAY TOO GOOD to pass on. He is big, physical, and fills a big need in there backfield. Not to mention, a huge steal at #25.
26) Baltimore Ravens – Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR Maryland - With Nicks, Britt and Maclin all gone, Heyward-Bey is an easy choice. His speed, paired with Joe Flaccos rocket arm is a real nice thought for Raven fans and it would be a nice dream come true. Instead of throwing deep jump balsl to Mark Clayton and Derrick Mason, we'd have the 6-2 4.3 DHB to throw to!
27) Indianapolis Colts – Alphonso Smith, CB Wake Forest - Many people might not see corner as a big need for Indy, but I do think it is. Plus, Alphonso is just way too good to pass up here. Despite his size, he gives the Colts a big time playmaker in the secondary who will be generating turnovers for as long as he plays.
28) Philadelphia Eagles – Knowshon Moreno, RB Georgia - He fits there system nicely and is a great replacement for Westbrook and can split carries with him as well.
29) New York Giants – William Beatty, OT UCONN - The New York Giants have got to be the most complete team in the league. They really don't have a glarring weakness outside of WR. So why not add young talented depth to there o-line? Its the best thing to do when your as stacked as they are.
30) Tennessee Titans – Darius Butler, CB UCONN - Outside of Cortland Finnegen, they have an old starter in Harper and he will need a replacment ASAP. Butler is a great corner and could have easily gone earlier and the Titans should waste no time taking him.
31) Arizona Cardinals – Donald Brown, RB UCONN - While there passing game was spectacular last year, there runnning game was DEAD LAST. Yup, 32nd place. Donald Brown reminds me alot of Matt Forte and if he could have the same kind of impact on the Cards that Forte had on the Bear, it was be HUGE. Brown is a great feature back as well as a reciever out of the backfield so he can help out in the pass game as well. He would only need to take 18-20 carries a game since there pass game is so dominant and let Hightower take care of the short yardage sitituations. (wow, 3 unconn players in the first round, in consecutive order :D )
32) Pittsburgh Steelers – D.J. Moore, CB Vanderbilt - The Steelers have been known to like the talented players who do a little bit of everything. (i.e. Dennis Dixon, Randel-El, Pat White) so I could really see them jump on D.J. Moore. They could use some corner help, however it isnt there biggest need but Moore isn't just an instintive corner, but he can play the slot WR, and return punts as well as kicks. So he will be all over the field for the Steelers and contribute from day 1.
Round Two
33) Detroit Lions – Duke Robinson, OG Oklahoma - Robinson is a massive mauling offensive guard that Detroit could really use in there run game. Dan Riaola is a solid Center. With the addition of Jason Smith at LT, Backus moving to LG, Gosder Cherlius at RT, insert Duke at the RG, and Riaola at Center and Detroit has themselves a pretty solid o-line a huge upgrade from last year. It would really help there run game and give Culpeper time to find Megatron, which = SCORE which = Wins!
34) New England Patriots – Louis Delmas, S Western Michigan - Merriweather is decent starter at SS, but James Sanders is below average and could certainly be upgraded. Delmas is a "patriot" kinda player. He plays the run well as well as the pass and is a great team leader. They could also go Sintim, Ayers, or Larry English.
35) St. Louis Rams – James Laurinatius, ILB Ohio State - Its not secret that Steve Spagnola(sp) would have loved Curry, but LT was just a much bigger need, but I can't see him passing on another talented LB. Look for him to get his QB of the defense here in JamesL. He is a much better fit in a 4-3 and should be a stud at MLB for them.
36) Cleveland Browns – Percy Harvin, WR Florida - Harvin is just way too good to pass up here. With Braylon having a terrible set of hands and Quinn losing his favorite target in Winslow, it makes sense to reload his arensel of weapons. Kind of a suprise pick, but it make sense.
37) Seattle Seahawks – Evander Hood, DT Missouri - They considered B.J. Raji in the first, but Hood is a great value here in the 2nd and give them that impact player they desperatly need in the trenches.
38) Cincinnati Bengals – Alex Mack, C California - They added Andre Smith in the first, look for them to further bloster there o-line in an attempt to revieve Carson Palmers career. Better protection give Palmer time to do what he does best.
39) Jacksonville Jaguars – Phil Loadholt, OT Oklahoma - They need some talented depth on there line badly. They were injury plagued last year and could use all the depth they can get. Loadholt will be a huge asset for there run game.
40) Oakland Raiders – Max Unger, C Oregon - Oakland's offensive line is pretty much in solid shape but they do need a bit more upgrades in certain areas. They get Unger here who could play almost any of the positions given time. RT, C or even Guard.
41) Green Bay Packers – Robert Ayers, OLB/DE Tennessee - I was going to give them Larry English here but Ayers is just way too good to pass up here. He could play either 3-4 DE ot 3-4 OLB for the Packers and be an upgrade at either position. Sean Smith is another possibilty here.
42) Buffalo Bills – Andy Levitre, OG Oregon State - With the loss of Cedric Dockery and the lack of depth, this pick makes alot of sense. Edwards has got a ton of weapons with Owens, Evans, Pettigrew, Jackson and Lynch, but they all need a solid line.
43) San Francisco – Aaron Maybin, OLB Penn State - They need a pass rushing OLB and Maybin fits the bill. Not only is he way to good too pass up here, he fills a big need. His ability to play the run will grow on him under Singletary and with time, he will be a complete OLB. But from day 1, look for him to be generating sacks for the niners.
44) Miami Dolphins – Larry English, OLB Northern Illinois - English reminds me alot of the next LaMarr Woodley. He is a consistent pass rusher that they need opposite of Porter and he will continue to improve vs. the run and in pass coverage.
45) New York Giants – Brian Robiske, WR Ohio State - With the possible loss of Plaxico, look for them to take a WR early. Robiske might not be a superstar but he is just a good football player. He has great speed despite his terrific size at 6-2 209. He is a son of a football coach and loves the game.
46) Houston Texans – William Moore, S Missouri - Moore is a first round talent but if he can get things under control he could be a huge steal for Houston.
47) New England Patriots – Sean Smith CB/S, Utah - Wow, the Patriots are loaded with day 1 picks. They got there MLB to pair with Mayo in Mauluaga, they got a safety to pair with Merriweather, and now here they get a legitament starting corner. Both there starters right now are undersized and struggled last year. Smith gives them a huge upgrade they so desperatly need.
48) Denver Broncos – Ron Brace, DT/NT Boston College - Brace is a massive DT who would be a nice fit in a 3-4. He gives Denver the much needed "nose tackle" that almost every successful 3-4 team has.
49) Chicago Bears – Lawrence Sidbury Jr. - I gave them Sibury over Kruger here. He is more faster, more expirenced, MUCH better motor and doesn't have those injury issues that Kruger has.
50) Cleveland Browns – Shawn Nelson, TE Southern Miss - They traded away Kellen Winslow for this pick, and it make sense to nab his replacment and Nelson is an ideal fit. He is a great reciever but won't offer much in the blocking department.
51) Dallas Cowboys – Paul Kruger, DE Utah - They lost a very servicable starter in Chris Canty and adding Kruger more than makes up for the loss.
52) Philadelphia Eagles – Rashad Johnson, S Alabama - With the loss of Dawkins they could use a replacment. Quentin Mikel is supposed to be the replacement but I thought he did a great job at SS so why move him? Rashad Johnson is an ideal FS and could step in from day 1. Plus, adding Johnson keeps Mikel at SS where IMO I think he is better.
53) New York Jets – Jarron Gilbert, DT/DE San Jose - Rex Ryan is a defensive minded coach and look for him to get that tweener type player that he loves to use. Look how he utilized Adalius Thomas, Jarrett Johnson and Haloti Ngata in Baltimore. Expect Gilbert to be his "weapon X" Lining up at the nickelback, OLB, DE, and DT. Rex is mad, and he will utilize the extremly talented Gilbert to the fullest.
54) Minnesota Vikings – Sen'Derrick Marks, DT Auburn - Pat Williams is freakin 36 years old!! AND he is facing drug charges. Vikings should find him a replacment soon and Marks is a good pick in the 2nd.
55) Atlanta Falcons – Patrick Chung S, Oregon - Lawyey Milloy is 35 going on 36 and they will need a replacment. Chung is a perfect fit for SS and plays the run really well.
56) Miami Dolphins – Clay Matthews, OLB USC - I know I gave them Larry English earlier, but Matthews is just way too good to pass up. Plus there isn't any WR worth taking and Joey Porter is aging at 32. They could find a nice way to use both Matthews and Enlish in a effective rotation. Basically a BPA pick here.
57) Baltimore Ravens – Clint Sintim, OLB Virginia - Ozzie Newsome's draft stragedy has always been take the BPA. Sintim is a first round talent and if he somehow fell all the way to 57, I doubt Ozzie would waste another second to nab him. He gives up much needed depth at OLB. He could be a part of a nasty rotation of Suggs, Sintim, Barnes, and McClain.
58) New England Patriots – Jamon Meredith, OT South Carolina - The Patriots need an upgrade at Tackle as well as depth.
59) Carolina Panthers – Fili Moala, DT USC - Obviously Julius Peppers won't be playing for them next year so they better start adding some impact players.
60) New York Giants – Jared Cook TE, Southern Carolina - Kevin Boss did a nice job replacing Shockey, but there is no depth to speak of behind him.
61) Indianapolis Colts – Louis Murphy, WR Florida - Indy is a team that almost any young WR can go to and learn a great deal and have good produciton. Murphy could be there #2 guy from day 1 and really benefit from playing alongside Wayne and next to Gonzalez.
62) Tennessee Titans – Darry Beckwith, ILB LSU - They don't really have "stud" ILB and Beckwith is a pretty good value pick here.
63) Arizona Cardinals – Troy Kropog, OT Tulane - Kropog won't blow you away and be a superstar, but he has the potential to be a VERY good tackle in the NFL. Cards could certainly use an upgrade
64) Pittsburgh Steelers – Gerald Cadogan, OT Penn State - Its obvious that there line needs help in anyway possible. Whether its a talent rookie, a depth player or a day 1 starter.
Anyways, Did 2 rounds, probably made alot of mistakes but whatever, please -
