In his days at Tennessee I can't remember Jim Schwartz ever having a big time MLB for his defense. If anyone has quotes or links backing it up that MLB isn't an important position for his defense then please post. Due to this and the trade for Julian Peterson I find it hard to believe that MLB is a pressing need for this team. This all but eliminates Curry but that was pretty much known when he said he wasn't negotiating with us.

But still the question needs to be asked who is going to be our starter? There was an article that came out that Dizon is being turned into a nickel outside linebacker so he is eliminated from the discussion.

Interesting guy that I think has the inside track on the job is Cody Spencer. Backup LB from Tennessee that we signed this off-season. The LBs not named Sims or Peterson that are currently on our roster are

Darnell Bing
Jordon Dizon
Chris Graham
Alex Lewis
Cody Spencer

Ehhh yeah...

So if MLB isn't a huge priortiy for Schwartz then why would Mayhew draft one early with one of highly valuable picks? Thats something I was thinking about earlier. What I hope is happening is that Schwartz is finding the prospects at MLB that do the things well that he wants from his mike backer. Because I really really don't think that Mayhew or Schwartz would go into the draft needing/looking to draft a starter at any position.

It should be Dizon, but Millen is ********.

We never should have picked Dizon in the first place.. I hated that pick so much.

As far as the starting MLB spot goes.. I think we'll be starting a rookie there. Not having a Round 4 or 5 pick will make it tough though. I would love for it to be Maualuga, but I suspect we'll pick our MLB with our #82 pick.. though if Maulaluga is there at #33, we have to take him!

Wishful thinking that Rey-Rey is there at #33 fella? #20 maybe, that would AWESOME for the Lion's! Depends how he looks at USC's pro day this week. I hope he slips to us, he is the real deal.

I would rather have Laurinitis than Maulaluga, IMO.

Definitely wishful thinking.. though LB's tend to slide on draft day.. and Maualuga didn't have the greatest workout in the world at the combine.. so it could happen..

I think Maualuga is there at #33, and Laurinaitis probably is as well. Linebackers never go as high as they are projected and neither of these guys had good workouts or exceptional senior seasons.

I agree, I love Rey Rey or Nitis at #33 not at #20. I really don't think Rey makes it to #33 though, I think a 3-4 team snatches him up in the late twenties if he was to fall.

What about Larry Foote?

I'm not a big fan of either JL or Rey in the first round. Even at #33 might be a little high for my liking, especially if Ziggy Hood is still sitting on the board. I went with Beckwith, but that's really only because I couldn't see anyone I liked all that much.

I'd be all for Larry Foote actually, but from the owners meetings I heard that the Steelers were likely going to try and keep him around.

Cody Spencer and Chris Graham will play middle linebacker.
