Today is the day that Layne Staley and Kurt Cobain died. In honor of them I have made the grunge thread.

Alice and Chains FTW!!!

Who?

Alice IN Chains was the greatest grunge band out there. They're still amazing to listen to.

Of all the so-called "grunge" bands I liked Nirvana the least. Alice in Chains was the best, followed by Pearl Jam, then Soundgarden.

The best part of that era was this:

dave grohl is nothing without nirvana. i was having a convo with someone about dave grohl, and how, regarldess of what he does musically, i always believe him to be influenced musically by the dc sound and chapel hill in the early 90's... especially when he plays guitar in foo that it's just overwhelmingly early 90's emo, only slightly updated and more mainstreamed.

and if we're mentioning the glory of subpop

**** you all. it's also sunny day real estate.
dino jr also pwns. if i can say anything, j mascis is probably god on a guitar too.

I know it's a Pink Floyd cover but it still rocks and so did the Melvins.

Dinosaur Jr, STP and Sonic Youth are great, but I didn't know people considered them "grunge".

I thought DJr and SY were noise rock and STP was....hard rock? I guess it's subjective but Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, AiC are on a different planet of grunge imo.

A Perfect Score

Dinosaur Jr. are sick...Also, I gotta mention one of my all time faves, The Smashing Pumpkins. Billy Corgan is the man.

Pearl Jam is overrated in my opinion.

Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots and Soundgarden are the best grunge bands of all time, in my opinion.

You can not be serious. You sir are a horrible person with no taste of music or anything refined. I am sure a self proclaimed intellectual type such as yourself enjoys Taco Bell meat tacos and has the whole season of Two and a Half Men stored on your Tivo. You sir are a hack.

Alice in Chains & Stone Temple Pilots own the grunge scene for me.

I think Jerry Cantrell is one of the most underrated musicians of the last two decades. He played lead guitar, he sung important harmonic vocals (what AIC was basically famous for), and he wrote & composed the majority of AIC songs. Cantrell is awesome.
