$30 million deal with $15 million in guaranteed money.....that is alot of money for an average TE.

i agree saying that hes a good TE, but thats still alotta lotta money to be giving to a TE when you just drafted a TE round 2 last year, im most surprised about the guarantees in this contract

He is a very good blocker and a decent receiver, but 6 mil a year is alot for a TE that isn't anything special.

sure but if you watch what the broncos do, they run alot of 2 WR sets..and now with 2 good receiving tes....should def. open things up....and graham is a great blocker so he might even come in as the starter...but either way we do use alot of 2 te sets

The amount of money mediocre players are getting is just startling. He's a solid player, and it certainly gives them a nice 2 tight set, but 15 million guaranteed...

Top 5 $$ for the 10-15th best TE in the league. The market is out of control. I think he'll be a good addition over there, but $6M per?

I'm just curious what the very elite players would get in this market. If Freeney was a free agent would he get $40 mil guaranteed?

Yeah. I'm happy with Vinsanthe Shiancoe. Not really.

Pretty much, he wanted 30 something million guaranteed, made that franchise tag decision rather easy.

I dont understand. Why spend this much guaranteed cash when they have scheffler?

Denver Bronco99
03-06-2007, 10:45 PM
that is the stupidest contract i think we've given out in the last five years. what an utterly moronic move by shanahan unless this is so completely backloaded that we're realistically paying him about a million a year for the first few years. i'm slowly starting to lose faith in our front office.

i know how you are feeling...but i just saw a breakdown of it on orangemane....its actually a 3mil a year with alot of bonusses...so its not that bad of a contract

like i said... i can handle it backloaded, but as close as we are to the cap, 3m a year is still a LOT of change to throw at a guy we don't really need.
The only player you need is JC, how many QB can play RB, WR, TE, OT< OG, and snap the ball to him self???? Only he can.......

i have read some article from denver post...about us actually having alot more cap room...with champ restructering, rod is working on it, warren restructed....i heard we were around the 11-12 mill mark in cap room

should have kept plummer around so he could toss it to cutler to run it in.

well clearly, but i think for appearances, they wanted to fill out the roster. i mean, people pity the raiders enough without having to see one man beat all eleven.I heard they were going to blindfold Cutler when they play the Raiders this season, to make it a little closer, for the Raiders fans sake.

niel89
03-06-2007, 10:56 PM
you know that scenario would require plummer to throw the ball, right?

he'll just toss it he hind his head again, no looking give him better accuracy

I think Graham is worth the money because he is one of the most underrated TEs in the league but I dont understand why the Broncos bid so much for him when they already have such a good young TE in Scheffler. Woulda made a lot more sense for him to go the Raiders or Seahawks.

Some of this spending on average talent is ridiculous. The Bengals just resigned Reggie Kelly for 3 mil a year and Kelly is an excellent blocker. I really don't see Graham worth 2X what Kelly is getting, especially when he'll share all the catches with Scheffler

Despite the money, I think this is a smart move by the Broncos. The goal is to develop your franchise QB, and that entails trying to build a solid core around him. They've got a veteran running back, allowing them time to develop another young runner (which subsequently means they won't have to go TE early in the draft). They aren't apt to go OL early, which means that Graham's blocking prowess could be more beneificial. He's a solid mid-range target that will allow Scheffler to attack the seams more. There's a blend of young and veteran talent at WR. It'd be nice to see an OL addition or two, even for depth purposes, but all in all, I like the offseason. THey know that they need to develop and nurture Cutler, and these veteran pieces should help.

THey can now use the draft picks to address defense early, and to shore up some depth issues. The Bly situation will be interesting to see how it plays out, but on the offensive side of the ball, it's been a smart offseason.

No, he is not worth the money ... but I think it's a smart move.

This enables the Broncos to use a 2 TE set a lot more effectively. He will easily add at least 20 yards a game on the ground and 5 more rushing TD's. Don't you guys remember the 49ers game when the Broncos had 3 drives into the 49ers 5 yard line and kicked a field goal each time? He will help the running game down there and provide a big target down there.
I like adding him, he is a way better blocker than any other non OL the Broncos have. Plus he has some good hands and is a very effective receiver. As much as I like Scheffler, it doesn't appear he is ready to be the premier TE because of his blocking.

I think we needed Graham, maybe not for this much but it's a good signing. Scheffler is still developing his blocking skills and Graham will come in and help us out in that category as well.

portermvp84
03-07-2007, 09:54 AM
Yeah, he can do both catch the ball and block good signing.
