While I would love for the Raiders to pick Andre Smith, I don't think they will. I like him because he has no criminal history or off the field problems except for the immature mistake he made at the combine. His workout at his pro day was also good, any reporter who thought he was horrible because he has moobies is an idiot. He's the most skilled in the position in the draft in my opinion and I would love for him to get picked. However, the Raiders have recently traded for Satele and signed Barnes. I believe Barnes and Henderson will battle for the left tackle spot while the loser will battle Green and Marten for the right tackle spot. I can see Henderson or Marten winning the right tackle spot. Gallery and Carlisile also restructured their contracts. I believe the offensive line will be:
LT: Khalif Barnes
LG: Robert Gallery
C: Samson Satele
RG: Robert Gallery
RT: Mario Henderson
While not great, it is decent enough that I believe the Raiders will not address the offensive line with the first pick.
I also don't believe the Raiders will go receiver with the first pick. Javon Walker restructured his contract and the Raiders didn't think twice of getting rid of all their other big signings last season. While I would love for the Raiders to pick Michael Crabtree, if not Andre Smith, everyone knows Al Davis won't because his 40 time isn't good enough. Jeremy Maclin and Darrius Heyward-Bey also aren't worth the pick. The rumors of the Raiders trading for Chad Johnson and the availability of Plaxico Burress also makes me believe the Raiders will target one of them.
The biggest weakness in my opinion is in the defensive backfield. We arguably have the best cornerback in the league, Asomugha. The person starting across from him is Chris Johnson. Routt is a nickelback. Our free safeties are currently ERA Hiram Eugene who showed nothing in spot starts last season and Huff. Our strong safety is currently Tyvon Branch, the Raiders 2nd pick in the 2008 draft, the 1st pick in the 4th round who played cornerback in college. Why would the Raiders release Gibril Wilson if they had these holes in the backfield? I understand that he didn't deserve his huge contract, but he was arguably one of our best defensive players last season. While I have heard that they are high on Tyvon Branch and believe he will be our starting strong safety, there are still holes at free safety and left cornerback. I also believe the Raiders are somewhat high on Hiram Eugene. I believe Malcolm Jenkins will be their pick due to him being worth the spot there, either that or the Raiders trade down. The defensive backfield would look much better with:
RCB: Nnamdi Asomugha
LCB: Malcolm Jenkins
FS: Hiram Eugene
SS: Tyvon Branch
LT: Khalif Barnes
LG: Robert Gallery
C: Samson Satele
RG: Robert Gallery
RT: Mario Henderson
