This guy is quickly becoming my favorite prosepect in this draft as I watch more and more videos of him. With recent mocks projecting him to fall, how do you think he fits in the Pats' system. We need a pass-rusher and he seems like the guy for that spot. Personally, I prefer him over a run-specialist ILB like Maualuga. What are your thoughts?

if this guy is available, i believe he will be the pick, unless maualuga is also still available. i think BB is dead set on having maualuga.... and even might trade up for him

My problem is that Maualuga doesn't seem to help repair the Pats' biggest need, which is a pass rush. I understand that Maualuga is a great run-stuffing ILB who would create quite the duo with Mayo. But I don't see that he is something we truly need in this draft. He seems like more of a luxury when we could be getting a pass-rusher.

yes thats very true but there will be alot of guys available at 34 who could be the pass rusher we need. maualuga wont be left at 34. one of english/barwin/matthews/sintim will still be left at 34 to draft and would fill that pass rushing role.

I definately understand your point, and I agree to an extent. However, I feel like we have to address the secondary as well. I'd like a guy like Delmas or Butler at the 34 spot. Preferably Delmas and hope Alphonso Smith falls to 47. I guess I'm biased agains Maualuga because of the way I envision the Pats' draft going, but I personally feel like we need to adress the pass rush and the secondary with the first two picks.

but once again, according to my theory of drafting, would be that a number of safetys would be available with our 2nd, 2nd round pick. you pick ILB, OLB for your first two picks, then you will have your choice of whomever is available between delmas/moore/johnson/chung, one of them will definitely be left. imo, CB is not really a huge need. You can find a good corner with our final pick of the second round if you are so fixed on finding one

I think this argument boils down to our difference in opinion in regards to whether we need an ILB or a corner more. Personally, I feel that the pass rush and secondary are the two spots we need to shore up. I like Springs and Bodden but truthfully, they are not long-term solutions and would we better suited to nickel roles. I feel a corner with the #47 pick is the best option.

Screw Rey. If Everette Brown is there I want him. He's the most advanced pass rusher in the class and our number one need is an outside pass rusher. It just makes way too much sense if he's there.

I agree. Actually, E. Brown is the ONLY player (that realistically could be @ 23) that I'd want the Pats to grab over Rey M if they're both availalbe.
Either then that- if Rey is available- then I say we grab him.
I think S is a big need but not so much with CB. We just signed two CBs and drafted 2 last year.
Safety on the other hand is Merriweather and Sanders w/ Tank and Rodney backin them up
(if Rod doesn't retire)

E. Brown- Delmas- OT (Gilbert if available)- BPA (Maybe reach on Brinkley)

or

Rey M- C. Barwin- Moore- BPA (Gilbert or Brinkley if available)

or

BPA (not OLB)- C. Barwin- Moore- BPA (Gilbert or Brinkley if available)

^^ that's how'd I'd like our 1st day to go

If Everette Brown is available at 23 I think he definitely should be the pick no matter who falls. I have already shown my concerns for drafting Rey with his ability to play passing downs so if BB has any worries that he will only be a 2 down player then he won't be drafted in the 1st by the Patriots. I could be completely wrong here and be shown up on draft day but it seems to me that if a linebacker can't stay on the field every down then he doesn't warrant this pick. Antoher worry about Rey is the defense is extremely complex and he has some maturity issues. In fact Mayo recently came out and said that he expects to be so much better next year because he couldn't grasp the whole defense and got by on athletic ability and Rey doesn't have the same athletic ability as Mayo.

Brown is the best pass rusher in this draft and if he falls all the way to the Pats they would have to seriously consider him. He could play from day 1 and be effective as a pass rusher and I believe also when playing up close to the line against the run. Of course he'd have to learn how to play from a two point stance and how to play in coverage as an OLB, but I believe he can do it.

No way Brown falls to 23.

However, even with my hope for Rey bordering on mancrush, I can't imagine a scenario were they pass on Brown.

No day one corner, please.
