View Full Version : ThePudge's Final 2009 Rankings

It was tough this year to piece together my final rankings. The rankings themselves don't include every player, but rather, 419 (would be 420 but Pat White appears at two positions). The Big Board is a top 255, with 45 extra names at the end to round off 300 total. I threw some random players into that 45, and did not go by my player rankings. The Big Board, however, I did go primarily by my rankings but also based on rumors, workouts, interviews, etc.

I wish I had the extra day, but it's going to be a busy one today with a taxi, a bus, and a plane involved. For those of you who are interested, getting to the draft from Athens, Ohio is just as tough and stressful as it sounds. Hopefully it will be worth it and the Bengals don't **** my weekend up. I should be able to post this afternoon, tonight, and tomorrow morning a bit. So as always, feedback is encouraged and I'm always up for discussion. Enjoy!

- Also to avoid confusion. I rank the players not where I think they'll be drafted (though it plays a role), but rather by where I personally see that player. I do list on the right for every prospect where I think they will be drafted. So sometimes you will see a player higher on my rankings, but with a lower draft projection than someone maybe two spots down or so. Just wanted to clarify.

Not trying to bump my thread here, but just fixed a couple typos and added a couple names to the list at the bottom. As always, feedback is very encouraged. I'm in the airport for another hour and a half or so, trying to talk some football.

Nice work Pudge, like I mentioned earlier you do more work than the whole Bengal staff!

I hope not. Let's pray they've done their homework this year. We could really use a big draft and I would love to pull a few immediate contributors out of those 11 picks.

Well, after the last 20 drafts I am past the point of *hoping* they will pull off a good draft. If, for example they skip over one the three top centers in rd 2 when clearly it is a gaping hole on the team. They do that to us every year.

If they take Unger in the 2nd, I will be pretty livid. He has the chance to be a very good player in the right system, but he is by no means an AFC North Center. He's similar to Eric Ghaiciuc, who obviously has not exactly panned out. On the flip side, Mack or Wood may bring me close to tears of joy, especially if they couple that pick with an OT pick from the first (Jason Smith, Monroe, and Andre Smith all work.)

nice man. i disagree strongly though that rey is the worst prospect of the 3 usc linebackers. id flip him into the top 15 in a heartbeat but thats just me.

i like that beanie is getting some love and mike thomas too. two guys that a lot of people have ranked too low imo.

Good point, I suppose Caldwell would actually be a better fit for us than Unger?

Just from watching as much Beanie as I have, I have seen him turn it on. I admit with durability concerns and perhaps a lack of passion for the game, he has a high bust factor. Still, we're talking about a Top 5-10 talent, the best player on the field in college pretty much whenever he wanted to be. He squeaks into my Top 15 and gets the slight edge on my board over Knowshon Moreno.

As for Mike Thomas, he's just a guy who's been in a constant state of motion upwards and now may have topped off. Some say there is a chance at the second round even. I'm not crazy about that idea, but I like Mike Thomas in the third round for any team looking for a #3 slot receiver and punt returner. The Wes Welker comparisons aren't all too far off.

Caldwell is a bit more stout and uses more leverage in his game. He is experienced against the big, space-eaters, having had to face one (Terrance Cody) in practice every day this past year. He's a steady player. I'd have very little problem with him in the Early 3rd at 70, but would love to have him, and feel he brings more value at 97th Overall.
