I wonder if Loomis will trade into the latter part of the draft this year as well. Maybe for dudley guice or a dt like pryor or byrd :) Starting to get a little bored by the lack of picks this year :(

There goes Pryor. Great pick!

man, i can't believe we got James Davis in the 6th round. Did the NFL people actually watch that kid play? He can start in the NFL potentially, great value for us as a 2nd/3rd RB who should see some time in a committee.

Good 6th round for the Browns: Don Carey, Coye Francies, and James Davis.

With the #5 pick of the 2009 NFL Draft the Browns select: Alex Mack, Coye Francies, James Davis, Kenyon Coleman, Abram Elam and Brett Ratliff?

yea so, remember when Mike Teel was the 8th QB taken?

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

oh my, I haven't laughed that hard since...well, since the 7th overall pick, but still. I laughed REALLY hard, and we all know how much I love RU.

So, again I'll say it:

Mike Teel is the second coming of John Elway

Raiders are definitely going to try a power, 2-TE formation this year. They've been targeting Myers for a long time.

Speaking of scheme, I have to wonder if the Raiders are trying to move to 3-4 base defense. They've taken 2 speedy, somewhat undersized DEs. Even Shaughnessy could project to 3-4 OLB.

Hmmm..... I wouldn't say Johnson and Smith are bad character. They just have effort/maturity concerns. Maualuga is kind of "eh" character wise IMO. Can't believe out of all teams the Bengals would take Scott though.

I actually don't think the eagles draft was that good. Never have been a big fan of Maclin or Shady.

Agreed. They're sexy picks, yeah, but I don't see Maclin and Gibson panning out. Maclin's a system guy, no matter how you try and swing it. And Gibson just isn't fast enough.

I think if you take into consideration the fact that we have Jay Cutler, and the value of our picks so far today, the Bears have really come away with one of the best drafts so far. Seems like each round (aside from the Melton pick) we've picked a guy who was slated to go in the round prior.

Plus we get Chris Williams back from last year, who could theoretically be... you know... good. Maybe.

New England Patriots Draft Grades:

2. SS Patrick Chung, Oregon - C+

I guess he's going to eventually start opposite Meriweather lining up over tight ends. I think they should've picked a linebacker like a Maualuga or Everette Brown.

2. NT Ron Brace, Boston College - C

This pick is okay as insurance for Vince Wilfork, but I'm really hoping it doesn't mean they're planning on letting Wilfork leave after the season. Again, I'd prefer one of those two mentioned.

2. CB Darius Butler, Connecticut - C

As a UConn fan, I was surprised to hear people putting Butler in the first round. He hits softer than a pillow and is much more of an athlete than a football player.

2. OT Sebastian Vollmer, Houston - D+

This pick was a big reach (I had him ranked in the fifth round), but the Patriots are probably looking to develop him into a replacement for Nick Kaczur. I think he'll have a similar career.

3. WR Brandon Tate, North Carolina - B

Pretty solid pick here - the team needs a new returner since they traded Ellis Hobbs, so they take the stoner with the torn ACL. He could eventually turn into a third WR.

3. LB Tyrone McKenzie, South Florida - C+

This was a decent pick, but McKenzie projects inside, with very little value rushing the passer. The Patriots should have really addressed linebacker much earlier, taking advantage of the depth of this class.

4. OG Rich Ohrnberger, Penn St. - F

This pick is miserable. Most Penn State fans didn't even expect this guy to be drafted. He's a sub-300 pound offensive guard who lacks strength. This guy went ahead of guards considered much better by most.

5. OT George Bussey, Louisville - F

This draft is highly reminiscent of the mid to late round picks on the 2007 draft, where the team threw away a bunch of picks on guys from schools such as Central Connecticut. Huge reach, very undersized.

6. LS Jake Ingram, Hawaii - D

The only reason this isn't an F is because the Patriots could actually allow him to win the starting long snapper spot. That said, they just signed Hodel from Arizona to do that. Plus, I mean, it's a long snapper. Come on.

6. NT Myron Pryor, Kentucky - D

This pick was actually not that bad as a developmental nose tackle...until you consider that the Patriots JUST drafted Ron Brace yesterday to be the backup nose tackle. How many do they need?

7. QB Julian Edelman, Kent St. - C+

Was fairly productive at Kent State as a multipurpose guy. I highly doubt he makes the roster but he does have a skill-set that could allow him to get one of the 53 spots available.

7. NT Darryl Richard, Georgia Tech - C

Not a bad value, but really, how many nose tackles does there have to be? He could feasibly project to defensive end but he'd be just as buried on the depth chart - third string. Probably won't make the team.

Overall grade: C

Time for a Tim Ruskell game.

Going by his stupid rules, here's who he's likely considering with these three practically consecutive 7th round picks:

Brian Hoyer
Ian Johnson
Tyrell Sutton
Quan Cosby
Gerald Cadogan
Jason Watkins
Jose Valdez
George Hypolite
Mitch King
Rulon Davis
Otis Wiley

Chances are at least one of those guys will be selected by TR here.

The three guys I want? R. Jennings/J. Johnson, D. Pegues, and Boltus/Reilly/Hoyer.

Julius Jones

There's no excuse for not coming out with a RB in the NFL draft. It's the easiest position to find by far. Any rookie could have came in and competed with that atrocious group.

So I just remembered, in October I was supposed to do a claim of fact speech and my teacher told me to do something I like so I was going to do the NFL Draft and my claim was going to be "Matthew Stafford will be the #1 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft." But you guys told me "No, don't do it unless you're in high school."

I ended up doing the atomic bomb in Japan. Way to go guys.
