I am doing a class presentation on business travel. Not just air travel but that dominates.

Does anyone have information on current prices, or just comments? And does anyone have older info for comparison, maybe during the economic bubble?
Please contribute if you would like.

Thank you.

My dad travels for business a lot and it's free for him. I don;t know what it costs the company though. Marriott Rewards ftw!

I fly out of Minneapolis every week for work to various locations throughout the country (although this passed year its only been to Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia and New Jersey) and I've got quite a bit of information.

What exactly were you looking for? From what I can tell, over the past two years or so prices have remained relatively constant (with the exceptions obviously being that prices generally fluctuate greatly around busy travel times, even for business travelers).

Because large companies, like the one I work for, generally contract through large travel agencies, notably Carlson Wagonlit, they're generally given better prices, but not by much. This is especially true for airline travel and hotel rates. It also varies greatly based upon what airport you're flying out of as some have much higher costs and much greater increases over the past few years (Philadelphia and Minneapolis had the greatest increases over the past year, and Cincinnati on average is the most expensive to fly in and out of).

Let me know some specifics on what you're looking for and I'll try to get you some first hand accounts.

Travel prices would also include:

Travel/Airfare

Hotel/lodging
- including the insane cost of shipping to hotels when applicable. (ie - for conventions most hotels will rape you for shipping displays, brochures, etc. to the hotel directly.
- also the charges for web access for conventions. as a vendor the hotels will try to charge ~$250 per day for wi-fi. Needless to say it is cheaper to do something else, be it wi-fi cards, BB tethers, etc.

Meals (including the ol' wine & dine w/clients)

Transportation @ destination (to & from airport plus local travel -cab/mass transit or rentals)

Miscellaneous expenses like strippers and blow

I'd bring you, but that would take away from my miscellaneous expense funds.

Thanks for your response.

Are there fewer people traveling? Well, I suppose they are cutting flights and trips so there appear to be as many people, just with fewer rounds.

Is anyone doing more morning departure, evening return?

I hate business travel because I work at a global studies office and see everyone travel to Europe on business and I cant go. Plus, I get to do their T+E's which, if you have never done one, is pretty much hell.
