With the first pick in the Superhero draft, I select (with odenforce) Thor.

I wont lie guys, Im a little surprised by that pick. Thor brings alot to the table, and while I think he should be in consideration for the pick, I would of considered him an outside shot to be #1 overall. There are 2, maybe 3 other heroes in Marvel alone that I would of considered taking over Thor. That said, he brings alot of skills to the table and is a great overall hero. He has no visible weaknesses, is a strong leader, and is well known. Solid choice, just not the one I expected to see.

Two great picks IMO. Superman was, in my opinion, the obvious choice for #1, so Jbond got him at great value at #3. Hes the most popular superhero ever, has 1 vastly overplayed weakness, and is an all around badass in just about every category you can come up with. And hes morally incorruptible. Great great choice.
Surfer is also an awesome choice. He is a personal favorite of mine, and also, if I were to put my money down, able to take on just about any hero in the Marvel Universe and take them down, or at least put up a hell of a fight while doing it. The Power Cosmic! Great selection and not at all a reach at #4.

I take Captain America. With my first pick I value leadership and I think there are maybe only one or two other people with leadership on par with Cap
A Perfect Score
06-01-2009, 08:40 PM
I think its a great choice by Kevin. Cap may not have the superhuman skills most have, but he is a great hero in his own right. He has superb leadership, is deadly with his shield, and is a very popular and borderline iconic hero. Some may view it as a reach due to his lack of actual physical talents, but I like the pick here guys.

Wow. We have, in my opinion, the first reach of the draft. Not a fan at all of that choice fellas. I think its important to remember all the factors that come into play when drafting. I view Flash as a nice support character, but he wasnt a first rounder IMO. Talented, but one dimensional. Offers little in terms of leadership. I view that as a reach with alot of more powerful people still on the board. Popular, but not upper echelon popular. Im not a fan of the pick at all.

Wow, lots to catch up, sorry got distracted by something else.
Love the Batman pick. He has everything you want in a superhero. Some may argue that his lack of superhuman abilities is an issue, but in his own universe, with mostly realistic villains, his abilities are just fine. He had some leadership skills, not amazing like Cap, but very very good. A member of the Justice League, so he has some experience working within a team. Near genius level intellect and a fortune to bankroll team expenses. And he has a car. Great pick.
Next, we have the most powerful weapon in the universe. No, not Hal Jordan. The ring! To be honest, I was always more of a Kyle Raynor fan, but Hal Jordan is a great pick in his own right. The power of the Green Lantern is only limited by the wielders imagination, so great pickup there. Could be a stud for a team needing some firepower, or defense, or whatever really. Great wildcard. As long as you have someone who can kill yellow things.
Xavier is Xavier. What you see is what you get. A cripple. Just kidding. Great telepathy, not the strongest psychic in the Marvelverse, that said, he offers great leadership skills and while others may be more powerful, he has an almost unparalled control over his abilities. Good choice, maybe a bit of a reach with some other more powerful people on the board. But a good choice nonetheless.
Spidey, Im torn on. There is no doubt he is strong, popular, etc. etc. But I definitely see some character issues developing with him. I can see him as a team cancer. He has girl issues, all kinds of enemies that come along with him, and can be a bit of a prima donna. All kinds of talent, but as a lone wolf, I question his ability to work within a team. That said, he has all the talent in the world, and should provide a dynamic threat for the team that drafts him. Boom or bust perhaps?
A Perfect Score
06-01-2009, 10:55 PM
I LOVE the Dr. Manhattan pick. While some may view it as a reach due to his lack of popularity with anyone other then comic geeks, I think the recent release of the WATCHMEN film would make him a household name. His ability is limitless, and his ability to manipulate matter on an atomic level should make him a huge threat. Will his uneasiness towards humanity prevent him from gelling with his teammates (assuming they are human?) Possible red flag there. That said, great choice, definitely a first round talent IMO.

OSU selects via BB The Incredible Hulk
http://www.comicscontinuum.com/stories/0404/20/hulk74.jpg
I like the pick. Hulk is big, strong, fast, and virtually indestructible. Probably should of gone earlier then this. Unreliable sure, with some character issues, but you cant put a price on this kind of talent.

Renji selects via BB
http://www.babble.com/CS/blogs/famecrawler/2008/07/01-07/wolverine14.JPG
Again, unreliable, but a great talent. Popularity factors in here as well, as he has starred in 3 Xmen films and just had his own movie. Some leadership skills as he has captained the Xmen at times. Overall, good choice and appropriate value.

Renji selects via BB Deadpool
http://img164.imageshack.us/img164/336/deadpool5iy.gif
I think its a fantastic pick. Great value here, IMO. Deadpool technically cant die, as Thanos made him invulnerable to keep him away from Death. Combine that with his healing factor, and his invulnerability to telepathy, and hes pretty much undestroyable. He is a top notch marksman, has the agility of spiderman, can teleport like Nightcrawler, and is comic relief. Why wasnt he chosen earlier? I think his popularity and unreliability are factors. Extremely popular with avid comic fans, but his name is not a popular one amongst non-comic fans. No leadership skills to speak of, and he is as likely to follow orders as to deny them. That said, he is an IMMENSE talent, one which people highly underrate. Like I said, he cant die...thats a pretty useful talent in itself. Great great pick, and great value IMO. Of course, I should mention for those who dont know he is my favorite comic character ever, so I am bias. That wont affect my judging, but I still really like the pick.

OSU selects via BB Iron Man
http://web.mit.edu/dryfoo/www/Write/Pix/ironman74.jpg
Another solid choice. This is good value for him, and as a first rounder he would of been a reach. Powerful, popular, and most importantly, adaptable. His ability to use different suits in different situations makes him the superhero equivalent of Adalius Thomas. Can do multiple things very well, is a good personality to be around (as long as he isnt drinking) and can provide useful funds as well. I like the choice at this point in the draft. Some character concerns, as ego, lack of commitment and the aforementioned drinking problem (hooray Demon in a Bottle story arc) could factor in long term. That said, another good pick, but OSU now has 2 unreliable members on his team. Lets hope he addresses the leadership issue soon.

Great choice. Underrated character. Kind of surprised to see her chosen there, but she certainly deserves it. Powerful, dedicated, strong morals, and damn hot to boot. Brodeur probably should of used the picture of Rachel Bilson in the WW costume, but we will let him off due to the great value and ability she offers.

(Anung Un Rama)
http://cache.kotaku.com/assets/resources/2006/10/Hellboy-thumb.jpg
A Perfect Score
06-02-2009, 12:09 AM
HUGE reach on the Cyclops pick. Wow. I cant even begin to state how shocked I am. I understand that he is a leader type guy, but he is EXTREMELY one dimensional and easily stonewalled. Not to mention, most of his popularity stems from the films and he isnt even all that popular amongst comic fans. I had him pegged as a 3-5 guy. Im very surprised.
Hellboy, I am also surprised by. I understand the popularity, but thats more Ron Perlman then the Hellboy character. His abilities, while mostly untapped during the movies, are somewhat limited, and he is more fragile then alot of the already picked and some still available characters. He offers nothing in the way of leadership and is a hothead, not likely to follow orders. I like the character, but I question his ability to work outside his comfort zone and inside a team he isnt extremely familiar with.
2 pretty interesting picks IMO.

That right there, ladies and gentlemen, is a good pick. Definitely hurting in the popularity section, but that said, anyone who knows anything about comics knows who he is. Extremely powerful, one of the Endless...a steal in the 2nd IMO, if we are going based purely on power. Alot of people dont know who he is, but after he is finished will them, they will wish they knew beforehand. Good choice.

And a FANTASTIC choice by team Diab. I am a huge Spawn mark, and he is a great great compliment to the previously selected Batman. Extremely powerful, his questionable morals probably caused his slide, but pair him with the incorruptible Batman and you have an epic epic win. Probably the most popular independent comic ever to be published, Spawn wins in all areas and he probably deserved to go in the first round ahead of guys like Wolverine. Great choice and fantastic value.

Cant say Im a fan of the Gladiator pick. Just a reach in almost every category.
The Gambit pick is, however, a good one. Maybe a reach power wise in the 2nd, but his insane popularity with not only comic fans but casual fans overrides this huge. A bit of a wild card (no pun intended), but has shown he can play a role in a team.

Excellent choice. Cable should of gone first round by all means, but there is only so many guys who can go in Round 1. Extremely powerful, good leader, if he wasnt constantly using his psychic powers to constantly contain the nanovirus that turns him into a cyborg, he would be one of, if not the most powerful character in the Marvelverse. Even with that negative aspect, he is still a great choice and great value at this point.

And there we have it, ladies and gents. The steal of the draft so far. Probably an even bigger steal then Jbond got with Supes at #3. I hate to say it, but the combination of Superman and Strange looks near unbeatable at this point. How did you all let him slip by? I will never understand. I kept waiting and waiting for him to come off the board. He is quite possibly the most powerful hero in the Marvel Universe. Hes fast, super strong, extremely versatile, and is a great character guy. Had the talent to be a top 5 pick IMO. Great great value for Jbond here again.

Absolutely fantastic choices by Cicero. J'onn J'onnz is extremely versatile and can offer many strategic advantages for his team. His multitude of powers and his willingness to work withing a team make him extremely valuable and good value at this point. Very popualr as well.
Adam Warlock is an extremely powerful being who also offers many telepathic and cosmic powers that should make him a valuable asset to whatever team he is on. He is actually quite powerful, and has defeated Thor on occasion before. Great value at this point. His only downside is he is not well known.
Cant say Im a fan of the Hercules pick. Hes one dimensional and not well known as a comic character.

Jbond with another excellent pick. Reed Richards is the smartest man in comics, an amazing leader, and has an ability which leaves him versatile and able to assist his team in many ways. Well lets see, what did I miss. Ahh, Captain Marvel. People still know who he is? The guy is both ancient and outdated. That said, he is a cheap version of superman who comes with decent popularity with the older generation. He is multi-talented, yet the question becomes with so many other people on the board who are just as strong, maybe a more modern choice was a better selection?
Torch, I like. Hes hotheaded, but works cohesively within a team. Offers an elemental presence and is moderately, but not overly, powerful. Very very popular, so that helps justify his selection.
Iceman is uber powerful. After his recent run ins with Emma Frost, alot of his potential was unlocked, and it turns out he is another Omega Level Mutant, with great untapped potential. Has experience in a team, is more popular then ever because of his love interest in the movies, and has alot of room to grow into his vast powers. Good selection at this point.

Wow ok, let me catch up.
Bit of a reach on Duplicate Boy, just for popularity reasons. That said, I love his power. He is the Peter Petrelli of DC Comics. He can duplicate any power he has ever seen, and can even use more then one at once. Therefore, everyone who has bee drafted so far is inferior, TECHNICALLY, to Duplicate Boy. That said, nobody knows who he is, so he loses points for popularity and importance. Not a terrible pick, but you probably could of gotten him much later.
Great picks by both CJ and Caddy. Jean should of gone earlier. Extremely powerful telepath. Has experience in a team, leadership skills, etc. etc. Is popular and powerful.
Nate Grey is less well known, but once again, he ***** **** up. Really, at this point, he is great value and can go toe to toe with most of the guys already chosen in this draft.

Well, I love the Rogue pick. She should of gone earlier. Very powerful, useful abilities, experience within a team, and very popular. Renji has a very good team on his hands at this point. That said, it lacks leadership at this point and I feel he needs to grab one.
Mr. M is well...one of those uber powerful people who the writers create without limits for the sake of making someone extremely powerful. He is a huge loner and would have difficulty working within a team structure. That said, he can do just about everything, even create life. Soooooooooooo...I personally dont like the pick, as it is my opinion that characters like that take the fun out of things, but he is virtually unstoppable.

3 great picks. All have good skillsets that will allow them to contribute to their respective teams. Thing has great experience in a team and should provide the muscle for his team.
Hyperion is super strong and is a great all around addition, and is good value at this point in the draft.
Scarlett Witch is a bit on and off as far as power and allegiance are concerned, but when she is on, she is super strong and should contribute alot to her team.

Ok, lets see if I cant catch up a bit here. I want to go back, and Ill do it pick by pick.
Daredevil- Amazing choice by Diab. Extremely underrated hero. Hes mega popular, ultra cool, and alot more powerful than people give him credit for. He is just as fast and strong as Spiderman is, and his senses are just as good as anyone in Marvel. I really really like the pick.
Most of the other picks have been good value and can all contribute to their teams. I dont like the Rorschach pick. He offers nothing really. He is fine in the world of Watchmen, but not in a matchup like this. He is a loner, doesnt work well at all within a team, has questionable morals, and has no superpowers. What is a makeshift flamethrower going to do against a supervillain? I love Watchmen, but there were alot of people on the board who would of been better choices IMO. Same thing goes for John Constantine. He is ultra badass, but offers nothing in this situation besides knowledge of the occult.
Dont like the pick of Aquaman over Namor. Namor>>>>>Aquaman. Just my personal preference I guess, but I dislike Aquaman.
Nick Fury and War Machine were great picks. War Machine is a bruiser, and Fury is one of the best leaders that has been drafted.
Dont like the Leonidas pick. Sure he is good versus Persians, but he would get slaughtered against any sort of villain.
Dont like Cannonball. Hes just well...meh.
Is Lobo eligible? I always pegged him as a villain, even during his anti hero stage.
I love the Psylocke pick. Very strong, could of gone earlier.

Thats another great choice by team Diab. Nightcrawler is extremely popular, and is one of the best loved Xmen. Hes also extremely talented, and could provide intel and a vital striking aspect to a team. Great personality as well. Another amazing choice for team Diab. Nightcrawler was #1 on "APS's best left list."
