Ehh, whatever, its the typical garbage you'll see around this time of year.

Here's my "homer" reason for posting this, aside from the multitude of terrible rankings...Lofa Tatupu doesnt even get honorable mention after 1 injury plagued season. There are 19 LBs in the top 99, and a few more honorable mentions, but no Lofa Tatupu? In fact, the only Seahawk on the list is a guy that has yet to even play a down in a Seahawks uniform.

Obviously an extremely difficult list to compile but that's a pretty piss-poor effort. So many things that you wouldn't even have a chance at supporting in an argument.

My top 10 would probably be Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Adrian Peterson, Larry Fitzgerald, Andre Johnson, Mario Williams, Albert Haynesworth, DeMarcus Ware, Nnamdi Asomugha, Ed Reed. Honorable mention to Drew Brees, Julius Peppers, Jared Allen, James Harrison, Shawne Merriman, Troy Polamalu.

since bush is the only other saints player in the top99 (how is that possible) that means bush is the second best player on our squad?

Clickable link.

Ranking the NFL's Top 99 players for 2009 is no easy task.

To tackle the mission, I opted not to go all Bill James/Baseball Prospectus style in my methodology. Yes, to the dismay of some, there are no mathematic formulas or sabermetrics involved in what's below. And my apologies to the fine men at Football Outsiders, but I left the abacus at home for this one.
For the fantasy football crowd, you might not be too thrilled either. Sometimes it's not all about statistics. And in ranking the NFL's Top 99, many times it wasn't.

Children, this is BS for "Facts? **** that. I'll just list some players. I mean, it's June. No one cares what articles say in June."

79. Kyle Vanden Bosch, DE, Tennessee Titans: Albert Haynesworth may have gotten all the pub, but many NFL folks point to Vanden Bosch as the real glue to last year's dominant Tennessee defensive line. Without Haynesworth, he'll need to do even more in '09. He will.

KVB was out for 6 games last season, and he struggled through a groin injury for the entire 2nd half of the season.

He does have the Titans tied with the most listees at 6, so I guess it isn't that bad. ;)

Ngata behind guys like Holmes is ridiculous, even Devin Hester over Forte is weird.

How the hell is cassel on the list?
Briggs is a little low.

he even did it for me, the position choices are flat out rediculous:
Linebackers — 19
Wide receivers — 15
Quarterbacks — 13
Running backs — 13
Defensive ends — 9
Offensive tackles — 6
Defensive tackles — 6
Cornerbacks — 6
Safeties — 6
Tight ends — 3
Guards — 2
Centers — 1

9 offensive linemen in total is rediculous.
19 linebackers is rediculous (even though he does count 3-4 olb as lb's and almost every 3-4 olb is in there since they get plenty of production pretty easily)
3 tight ends and 6 corners also made me think WTH????

And I like him but Jordan Gross as the best OL in the entire league????
Also if you put in that many linebackers Vilma should be in there imo.

I can keep going for a while, this is one of the worst lists i can imagine. I think 80% of the guys here can make a better list, although you will always have someone unhappy.

I started reading, but stopped when I saw CJ at number 83. I'm sorry, that's just rediculous. I understand no other Lion on the list, hell I'd probably mock the list if it had more than one... but CJ at 83? That's just stupid.

Don't disrespect the Finnegan. He should definitely be in the top 99 players. He's a top 5 cornerback and can be argued as high as number 2.

Agreed, Finnegan played great last year. I think he and Revis should be ranked fairly close together, and i wouldn't argue either being ahead of the other. Mathis on the other hand, i believe has played a little below both, at least based on last year.

I highly, HIGHLY doubt Drew leads the NFL in rushing. And Drew as the 60th best NFL player, that sounds about right.

He was the consensus All Pro Left Tackle on a team that had one of the best rushing offenses in the NFL.

Don't get me wrong there's one or two guys out there who're better run blockers or pass protectors, but I highly doubt there's anyone in the NFL who's as good as he is at both.

Also if you put in that many linebackers Vilma should be in there imo.

Vilma is probably the third best MLB in his division and his play wasn't that stellar last year.

Keep in mind this list is based on value to their teams, NOT WHO IS BEST. I'm biased towards linemen since i currently am playing the position at my school. i am not a huge fan of some of the qbs playing now days.

truthfully, its brady and manning and then everyone else. some of these linemen are the only reason their team has any running game (bobbie williams and brad butler). linemen are what i value the most personally since chips are won in the trenches damnit! when will espn blowhards give us linemen some credit?

how did i do fools?

last year was his worst season but i still love the kid. he can play man coverage, blitz, and play in the box. the jets secondary was pitiful last year outside of rhodes and revis. he doesnt quite have the reactonary speed necessary to play zone but still he is one of the games greats.

adrian wilson is the best safety in the box besides yeremiah bell. wilson is the best blitzing saftey in the nfl and there is no way arizona goes to the bowl without wilson. i ranked him as the 4th best saftey my man. its really splitting hairs.

Ed Reed is the only safety i would clearly put ahead of Wilson, then its a toss up between him, Poly, and Sanders with Rhodes slighty behind

fair enough man, reed is great in coverage but useless against the run. polamalu is great against the run and a fierce blitzer. wilson can do both well. all 3 should go into the hall when they are done.

woodson is the second best playmaking corner in the nfl behind samuel. not to mention he is a top 5 cover corner (more of an indictment on the state of corner play but still). he allowed only one td this year if my memory serves correctly.

gotcha brotha. he is the penultimate playmaker and what is the nfl about? making positive plays while trying to limit negative plays. few are better than woodson.
