View Full Version : Players You Want to See Succeed

I got the idea from the prospect you loved thread. There are those guys in the league who had doubters or adversity coming into the league and because of that, you want to see them do well. Also, guys who were college studs who maybe fell in the draft or top picks who haven't yet delivered and you want to see play up to their potential. Who are the guys you want to see succeed.

*PLEASE TRY NOT TO BE A HOMER BY JUST PICKING GUYS ON YOUR TEAM YOU WANT TO DO WELL*

For me....

You should probably just rename this "The Homer Thread" because that's what you're going to get.

Brian Leonard. I was hoping he'd be a great RB in the NFL, and would've loved for the Eagles to get him when he was drafted.

(No I didn't do this for Scotty, I legitimately love Brian Leonard, though I doubt it is comparable to Scotty's love)

Homer picks aside, I want to see Brady Quinn succeed. His green room draft fall was one of the saddest things I ever saw. And the reporter kept asking him how he felt. He needs to stick it to all those teams.

Homer pick: Peyton Hillis because he is awesome.

A lot of old Tennessee guys such as Robert Meachem and Justin Harrell. Not to mention I wouldn't mind Albert Haynesworth proving all the doubters wrong. Personally on the Titans I want Kenny Britt and Jared Cook to succeed as well. Not to mention the rest of the draft picks obviously.

-Kenny Britt: Jersey boy and Rutgers alum :)
-Ray Rice: See Kenny Britt
-Eric Weddle: I loved this guy coming out.
-Reggie Nelson: Thought he'd be the next Ed Reed. He still has time.
-Brandon Merriweather: Loved him almost as much as Nelson
-Manuel Ramirez: I had a man crush on this guy during the draft.

It's generally just prospects that I was a fan of, and FSU players. So guys like Stafford, McFadden, Jenkins. Some guys from the past few years, but its generally how I determine players I like in the NFL too, which ones I liked in college and as prospects. But more so than anything I root for all FSU players.

TE Bear Pascoe & RB Glen Coffee as impact rookies for the 9ers offense.

Everybody in the Bay Area wants, expects, & demands that TE Vernon Davis do well & even have a breakout yr, I think that's a 50-50 shot. Davis is the poster boy for Put Up or Shut Up.

1) ray lewis...i would love to see him get one more championship and cement himself as the best mlb to ever play the game...if it wasnt for criminally inept offenses he would be a multi time superbowl champ....i think he gets one more.
2) reggie bush...most talented r.b. ive ever seen...gets hated on
3) andre smith...beast o.t. got hated on during this past offseason
4) glen dorsey...fiery d.t. that gets hated on
5) malcolm jenkins...called him the best c.b. prospect since charles woodson and now that he's on a team that needs help at free safety i think he could be the best free safety in the league very soon...on par as a free safety prospect with next years phenom eric berry....both remind me of ed reed.
6) percy harvin/derrick williams...both players got hated on for not having a true position, which is fine by me cause i want their teams to use them as overall weapons at slot reciever, third down/change of pace r.b., wildcat q.b. and return guys...no position?...no problem!
7) michael oher...got drafted wayy too low and could give the ravens the best o.l. in football
8) calvin johnson...most talented (on par with moss) w.r. ive ever seen

Homer picks

- Tony Ugoh, he's essentially a 1st round pick and he needs to consistently play like one.
- Mike Hart, he looked great for two plays then got hurt. The Colts needed him last year.
- Philip Wheeler, it'd be nice to have a LB who can actually blitz.

Non-homer

- Tavaris Jackson, he just needs a chance, some confidence, and no Brad Childress
- Frank Okam, because he SHOULD succeed.
- Darrell Reid, he never got a chance with the Colts outside of special teams, I hope he does well with the Broncos
- Jamarcus Russell, again because he should. Though I blame the Raiders more than I do him.
- Brady Quinn, if the stupid Browns would give him a chance he'd already have succeeded.
- Carson Palmer, he was a top 3 QB in the NFL at one time and IMO could be on a level with Manning and Brady if he wasn't a Bengal.
- Michael Oher, because he is a great player and seems like a nice guy who people are setting up to fail, which is stupid.
- Jason Campbell, another talented QB who needs an actual chance and competent front office leadership. How many offensive systems has he had to learn in the last 6 years?

edit - I'll add Vernon Gholston, again because he SHOULD be good. I think Rex Ryan will make him a much better player this year.

I really want to see Quinn succeed. I never liked JaMarcus when he came out and for weeks I argued with people that he wasn't anywhere near the prospect that Quinn was, I like to be right, plus I kind of feel sorry for Cleveland, for far too long they've been one of the NFL's dunces.

Eat 'em up is a Bobcat thing, does SHSU say that too? Eat 'em up, eat 'em up, go cats go!
Yes, SHSU does the same thing AND they do the same hand sign.

Kenny Britt has been a favorite since he started at Rutgers (not a Rutgers fan like the guys on this site but I live in the area so I get to watch their games a lot), so I'd love to see him do well.

And while he's not an NFL guy quite yet, I don't know if there's anybody I'd like to see succeed more in the league than Mark Herzlich.

Probably because he is the future of the NFL.

For the sake of highlight reels everywhere I hope Cromartie does well.

If this dude wins our back up job, I wonder if he will be our "Wildcat" quarterback. Dude is dangerous with the ball in his hands. I would run an option with him and either Mendenhall or Parker in the backfield.

Or why not a package with Dixon taking the snap and a 2 RB backfield of Parker and Mendenhall?

Yeah, that could work too. Although Tomlin won't admit it, they should use Dixon as to what they used Randle El as, but Dixon will be the backup QB instead of a WR who can play QB just in case.

He's a pass-first guy. I think he's pigeon-holed into being a runner, rather than seen as a throwing QB.

I want Brady Quinn to succeed, not because i like him, but so that he can lead us browns fans out of the cellar.....
but other than that...
Jonathan Stewart - I always was a huge fan of his, his balance is completely ridiculous and he could possibly be the strongest running back in the league
Reggie Bush
Patrick Chung
Percy Harvin
Koren Robinson (even though he is 29 with no knee cartiledge)

and for the arguments sake greg oden

I know a lot of people have already said him and it's almost a little cliche with him being small, but I really want Mike Hart to succeed. It's hard to say since I've watched him run wild in the Big 10 and against the Badgers, but I can't help but like the guy.

I am not a huge fan of Mike Hart's... if there is any small runningback I wish to see succeed its Darren Sproles, that guy is electric.
