http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2009/07/03/colt-brennan-plans-to-prove-in-the-preseason-that-hes-a-startin/

To veteran NFL players, the preseason is a necessary evil, a four-game stretch in which they get paid peanuts (relatively speaking) and just hope they don't get hurt. But to young players trying to prove themselves, the preseason can represent a major opportunity. And Redskins backup quarterback Colt Brennan says he's going to make the most of that opportunity.

In fact, Brennan -- who played very well in the 2008 preseason but never saw the field in the regular season -- sounds like he thinks that with another good preseason in 2009, he could be ready to take the starting job (currently held by Jason Campbell) in 2010.

The season would be completely in the crapper if that is the case. I just don't have the confidence that Brennan is an NFL starter at this point.

"At least Colt is still the accurate passer he was in HI and in pre-seaon last year:
Under the watchful eye of Jim Zorn and Chris Meidt, the quarterbacks gathered at midfield and took turns throwing the ball into a small hoop in he middle of a net.
The drill tested quarterback accuracy, both in the pocket and on the move.
Jason Campbell was the least accurate, missing the hoop in the net on four throws that I saw.
Colt Brennan did the best, nailing the throw in the hoop on two occasions.
Todd Collins hit on one of his throws, as did Chase Daniel."

Last time I put money on a bet with someone online, I won and they never showed their face here ever again. I do think he'll get a chance to start a game though. Maybe through injury or what have you.

Here's one...

Hague, Va.: Dan the man, Please tell me what you think of Colt Brennan as a quarterback and if you think he has any chance of playing this year?

Dan Steinberg: You can't tell if these questions are sort of poking fun at the Cult thing, or actually optimistic that a sports blogger who spends his afternoons asking Redskins how much they can bench press will jump on the Internet and drop this news: Colt Brennan will be the starting quarterback by Week 7.

I mean, sure, there's a chance. If multiple QBs get hurt, obviously, or if Campbell is terrible and Collins struggles or gets hurt or whatever. But no one, inside the Skins brass, has ever, ever, ever given the Cultists any signs of hope, which is why they turn to me, I guess.

Do I think, on merit, Colt Brennan will be starting in the first four games of the year? No, I do not. Do I think the Internet will break if Zorn turns to Brennan at some point? Quite possibly.

Here's some grist: the Redskins have renamed one of their pass patterns "Colt." It used to be called "Corner Omaha," or something like that. C-O

Now how many of their patterns are named after Campbell? hahaha...

How about I wear a I heart Romo sig, and you wear a I heart Campbell sig. I will wear the Romo sig til the end of the season.

If Colt is starting Week 8 you win. If JC goes down by injury though, it is null and void. He has to benched for Colt.

And yes if Colt comes in and does well, of course we jump on the bandwagon, we're skins fans.

'Fair enough, and it may well have been a ridiculous question. But backup QB Colt Brennan was concerned for a completely different set of reasons.

"Yeah, I've kinda been telling the DBs that I haven't been picked off yet this training camp," he said, "so this one was a little tricky for me."

Apparently Brennan is offering a bounty of some kind to the first defensive back who intercepts one of his passes, which makes an interception drill problematic for him. "We haven't really discussed the details yet, but it can't be in a drill like today when we were forced to throw picks. It has to be in a live drill, either 1-on-1, 7-on-7, team ... any of them. It can't be any defensive carded stuff or else it's not fair. If it's a defensive drill, they're expected to get the ball."'

At a time when all I'm reading left and right is Campbell getting intercepted, this has to burn.

You love it? Who knew? LOL. Wow, I better do something now or else you might love it even more!!! Oh noes!!!

If he took off the conditions, I might. Plus Game 8 is an arbitrary #. How about if Colt starts at any point in the season? I'm down for that.

I just think he should. AND I think Jason Campbell is one of the worst starting QBs in the league. The way Zorn is being so overly strict and careful with Brennan... even if he was ready, I don't think Zorn has the balls to unleash him. I don't even think Zorn will make him the #2 QB. But when Colt does get his chance (and that may not be in Washington... I think Zorn will take Colt where ever he goes if he gets fired), he's gonna be successful.

Why some Skins fans think Colt shouldn't be the starter... quite honestly... it baffles me that they prefer Campbell.

Can't wait for Colt's first preseason appearance!!!

from a poster on ES:

"I was listening to the Doc Walker show on Friday, the day after the game, and he had a bunch of very passionate and angry things to say.

He started off by saying how he didn't want to hear about being "vanilla" or "exhibition." He made the comment that Brady played a half... McNabb played a half and how those teams looked like they were trying to win.

He then went on to say the one guy that stood out to him was Colt. I am paraphrasing and using the verbatim when memory serves me... but he said how "Colt got no help" from the entire offense and he was "ballin and fightin" to move the chains. He said "I wanna see a guy who takes the chances." He then went on to praise him for trying to make something out of nothing "even if it meant picking up the two or three yards with his feet and getting hit."

The way Hawaii fans feel... Colt can't use any excuse no matter how legit they may be. He just doesn't have that kind of luxury. He's in a bottom line business and unless the team has a heavy financial commitment to you, or a coach that'll put his neck out for you (which only lasts so long), then you're really just an expendable/replaceable commodity.

Hopefully, he bounces back.

"My life coach Chris Cooley said I should neither confirm nor deny it," Brennan said after Saturday morning's practice.

Brennan first caught wind of the rumor Friday morning and immediately called Cooley. "I just told him, 'That doesn't sound like a rumor that I'd want to deny,' " said Cooley, declining to reveal the nature of Brennan's relationship with Simpson.

It didn't take much pressing, though, with Brennan. "Me being an honest guy, I have no idea what that's about," he said.

He thinks it might be a prank that originated in Romo's camp. "If it's Tony Romo who did that, it's absolutely hilarious," Brennan said. "And touche, Tony Romo."

That sounds like the real story. It's nothing but a bad rumor.

I don't think Tony would do something that mean... but I do expect Romo and Witten to get them back in some prank form. If not... bbbbooooooooooooo. You win.

I like guys who take chances too, but only if they have the ability. Colt has the ability. On 3rd and 10 after a 5 yard offsides penalty, would Jason Campbell take a chance on a 30 something yarder that hits his guy in stride while covered, leading him right into the corner of the endzone? Colt would. Colt did. ;)

i was so pissed at that penalty when it happened. as a redskins fan i have become accustomed to that situation turning into a 5 yard screen/dump off and settle for the field goal.

You deserve so much more. :p

nah but seriously... you have to love the fact that Colt HATES throwing INTs... Just despises him. A lot of QBs have an attitude of just forgetting about it and moving on. They think you can't go forward if you let it bother you. Colt is like the exact opposite. It burns him to the core and the next time he goes out, he keeps that recollection of his INTs in his mind and tries to avoid making the same mistake again... and better yet, he tries to make up for it... While other guys act like it never happened and keep repeating the same mistake (I know you know QBs that do this - Romo is infamous for this imo), Colt looks for redemption. But there's another side of the coin too. Because he starts to get conservative before he starts revving it up again. But that part of it all is mental and he's just young and inexperienced on this level so far. Once he really gains confidence, there's where you really have a weapon.
