Coach Foster Speaks on Raptors 16-10 Loss

Coach, what are your thoughts on this loss?
It's absolutely gutting. We were 1-0, on our home turf, and in position to get out to a commanding lead in the East, but instead we couldn't execute and came away with the loss, and are now 1-1 with a conference loss. I feel like our guys played well enough to win for the most part, just a few costly mistakes, like letting up a long kickoff return again, fumbling the ball away in the redzone, several 3 and outs on offense, these are things you just can't do if you want to win a ballgame, and we'll definitely be working on correcting these problems this week in practice, especially our kick coverage, it's been unacceptable the last 2 weeks.

You talked about costly mistakes, coach, is there any one play that you feel cost your team the game?
No, usually one play isn't going to cost you the game. I will say that the play that hurt us the most has to be Boster's fumble. When you're facing a defense like Memphis's and you have a good drive going, making a mistake like that is going to kill your momentum every time. I don't want to dwell on that, as we had other opportunities to win the game that we let slip through our hands, but turning the ball over is always a huge momentum killer. That punt block early on really hurt us too, needless to say we'll be working hard on special teams in practice this week.

What do you feel the team could have done better out there today, coach?
Well, our offense really needed to move the chains more and give our defense a breather and some room to work with. The defense I feel played pretty well, especially considering all the short fields they were forced to defend. Special teams...let's just say special teams has a lot of work to do. They've cost us 7 points in both games thus far, and that is simply unacceptable. I think our whole team could have played better. I think we could have called better plays as coaches. We lost, and after a loss, there's plenty of blame to go around, but rather than play the blame game, we're simply going to practice hard this week, and do our best to beat Chicago next week. We've got to defend our home turf if we want to have any success in this league.

Coach, do you feel your offense played poorly today, or do you feel the Showboats defense played a great game against you?
A little of both. Obviously Memphis has a great defense, I don't think anyone in this league would debate that, but there were a few times out there where if our offense had just been able to do a little more, we could have put some points on the board and maybe won the game. Again, you can play the blame game all day after a loss, instead I'll just tip my hat to Coach Anderson for calling a great game and his players for executing it, and we'll start preparing for the Pandas next week.

What can we expect next week, coach?
A much more prepared team. We're not going to lose in our own building twice in a row, I make that promise to our fan base. They spend their hard earned money to come and watch us play a game, the least we can do for them is give them the best effort we possibly can to get a win. We will work harder than we have worked to this point this week, we will be a better team next week, and we will be good enough to defend out home turf next week. That's all for today, guys, thank you, and I'll see you all next week.

Interview With Darius Bain

So I’ll start with the question everyone is asking, how is the injury?

It’s fine. I’m fine.

That’s good. Do you think there will be any lingering effects from the injury in your next game against Pittsburgh?

No. There shouldn’t be any problems at all. I’ve felt fine in practice all week and the doctors say I can switch to a soft splint and maybe lose it altogether before the next game.

So the pain isn’t a factor?

Not at all. Playing through pain doesn’t bother me. It makes me play even harder because it makes me mad. I want to cause the other guy as much pain as I feel.

Coach Sampson put you on special teams last game, which a lot of star players hate. How do you feel about it?

I love it. I wanted to be part of the special teams unit. It gives me another chance to hit people. And I love hitting.

So how are you feeling about the 2-0 record right now?

It feels good, but we have a lot more work to do. Coach Sampson makes sure we remember that and he works us hard in practice. We know we have to work hard in practice to see the results on game day.

So do you think you'll be ready for Pittsburgh then?

We've practiced our gameplan hard this week and prepared for what Pittsburgh will try to do. And I'm ready to hit something. Hard.

Alright, thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.

No problem. Thank you.

Week Three:
Memphis Showboats vs.
New Orleans Nightmare
Mississippi River Showdown: Part One

http://www.irtc.org/anims/2002-01-15/force_zg.jpg

by Ron Higgins, Associated Press

Memphis, TN -- In a throwback game to the smash-mouth styles of 1950s era football, the irresistible force of the New Orleans running game will face the immovable object of the Memphis defense.

After stumbling out of the gate in week one at home against the Pittsburgh Xplosion, the Memphis Showboats showed what they are capable of in week 2 against the Indianapolis Raptors. The Showboats defense held the Raptors to only ten points and all but shut down the run in an impressive performance. Defensive end Fulgrim Chemos was crucial in a 16-10 victory when he sacked Raptors QB Devin Saint on the last play of the game to help preserve the "W".

In their week two match-up New Orleans mauled Pittsburgh 31-10 using their potent rushing attack and dominating offensive line to pave their way to victory. New Orleans was in the drivers seat all game as their potent rushing attack fueled by RB Joe Jackson and FB Anger Killstone racked up 227 rushing yards and two touchdowns on their way to victory.

This week Memphis travels 358 miles south to New Orleans to take on the New Orleans Nightmare in what is a pivotal week three match-up. Both teams are one-and-one and both are coming off victories on the road. A raucous crowd is expected to throng to the Louisiana Superdome as this will be the Nightmare's first home game.

Memphis, however, is undaunted. Their defense has held firm in their first two games while their offense has been the concern. Head coach and offensive coordinator Dax Bellavia, ironically a New Orleans native, has been tweaking his offense in hopes of gaining better results on the field. The Showboats offense showed more potency this past Sunday in Indianapolis but more offensive firepower is going to be needed in order to throw New Orleans off of their game plan.

One can only speculate but it would seem logical that Memphis would look to build on the success they had last week by maintaining their objective which was to establish the run and use that to open up the passing game. New Orleans should look to do the same as they had most of their success last week on the ground. Needless to say, this is a key match-up where two prizefighters will step onto the field and try to bludgeon the other into submission.

Foxsports.com | Owens and Memphis ready for the fight

Owens shown in non padded practice and drills

Memphis, TN -- To say the Memphis Showboats are working hard would be an understatement. This week, the defense will be going up against one of the most smashmouth offenses in the league in the New Orleans Nightmare. The combination of Tank Johnson and Anger Killstone would scare many around the league but we decided to get Tyson Owens' opinion on the duo.

"They're good. I'm confident in our defense that we can minimize their game but we gotta still respect them for what they can do with the ball." We then went on to ask what happens when Tank Johnson is in open field and he finds himself directly opposite of Tank. "Well, to put it in laments, I gotta take is [expletive] head off. That's what I'm paid to do. I did it last week and I'll do it again!".

Owens was referring to the jaw jarring hit that caused a fumble in last week's game. He'll definitely have his plate full tonight. "We know they're good, we watch film. We just gotta play our game, give our offense chances to score, and shut these [expletive] down.. plain and simple!". This game should prove anything but.

Catching Up with Dwayne Camacho
Following the Jackalopes' practice this afternoon, sports reporter Newsy Morenz was able to get a few words in with cornerback Dwayne Camacho

NM: The practice this week has been noticeably intensified. Any thoughts on the increased workload during the week?

DC: That's just working hard. We need to get better and we're putting in the work for it. We don't like being the only team out there without a win. They've been some maddening losses so far, but were turnin' that anger right here because we know its up to us to change things.

NM: Would you say that either of the games have been more frustrating than the other?

DC: Losses always hurt pretty bad. This past week was frustrating in that we just couldn't get points up, and it just compounded from the first loss. But the first game we really took in the heart. In front of the home crowd, they were so pumped for football here. To drop that game in the last minute, that was a crusher.

NM: Well you're back in front of the home crowd this week against Honolulu. Do you feel that will be an advantage towards hopefully getting your first win of the season?

DC: Oh absolutely it is. I mean, we work as hard as ever whether we're in Cheyenne or Shanghai. But when the crowd gets behind you, it just feels so good. Like wind beneath the wings. We're giving them a win this time around.

NM: Confident words, and I'm sure that's what the Jackalope fans want to hear.

DC: Yeah well they deserve it. I gotta say I didn't know what to expect coming out to Wyoming. But the fan support here has been unreal. As good or better than anywhere I've played before.

NM: So Dwayne, in addition to being a starting cornerback you've also been given the job of returning kicks. How's that been for you?

DC: Oh I love it. I wasn't so sure I was going to do them, but Coach Taylor gave me the go and I'm so glad he did. It's somehting I've always enjoyed doing and I don't think I've been doing half bad so far. Streaking into the endzone in the first game and finishing it off with a leap into the stands - damn that felt good.

NM: This week against Honolulu you'll be acorss the sidelines from Will Franks-Turner, who I understand is a good friend and mentor of yours. Does this add any spice to the game for you?

DC: Ha, well you know I'd like to show off a little something to him. But yeah, Will's a real good guy and helped me out a lot, especially in the draft process. I don't know if it makes me try any harder, but it definitely makes it a little more fun for me. Seeing him fall on his face this week would make it a LOT more fun for me, heh.

NM: Thanks for the time, Dwayne. Good luck at home this week.

DC: Ah no problem, thank you.

PS: This is Pal Salintonio live with Demond Decker after the Raptors 16-10 loss to Memphis. Demond, what went wrong in this game?
DD: I don't know Pal, but I'm going to go watch the film and make sure I don't repeat any of the mistakes I made today. If our offense puts up 10 points, we're responsible for holding the other team to 9 or less, and we didn't do that today.

PS: Some would say you and the defense had a good game today, your thoughts Demond?
DD: (Points to scoreboard) That's not a good game. They won, we lost, any time that happens, we all had a bad game. I'm not the type that believes in moral victories or playing well in a loss. If you lose, your whole team has a lot of work to do. I don't want this to happen again, and I'm going to do my best to make sure it doesn't.

PS: What do you think you could have done better today, Demond?
I really don't know yet, I'm going to look at the film and see tonight though. I probably could've hit a few of their guys harder, maybe jar a ball or two loose, maybe we could have gotten some turnovers and kept some points off the board had I done that. I promise our fans that I as a player and we as a team will play better next week though. This is our house, and we're not about to let another team come in here and beat us.

PS: Some people have suggested you play on special teams Demond, what do you think of that?
DD:If Coach Foster asks me to, I'm definitely up for the task. If block, I'll return, I'll play gunner, anything Coach thinks he needs me for, I'm willing to do. Obviously we've had some problems on special teams thus far, so people are probably frustrated and want to see some changes, so I think that's where it comes from.

PS: On the last play of the game, what were you thinking?
DD: I was thinking "we're about to win this game". I have the utmost confidence in our offense, and Devin Saint had just orchestrated a great drive to get us to the 5, not to mention the TD pass he threw to Cobourne last week. I still can't believe Quinn and Marmo let Chemos by on that play, but you have to tip your hat to Chemos on that play, and pretty much for the entire game he had. He was downright dominant today. I'll be striving to take over our game against Chicago next week like that.

PS: Thanks for your time, Demond
DD: Thank you, Pal

Following a tremendous loss to the Sacramento Attack, Honolulu Wave Defensive End Drake McDonald had something to say to reporters. Shouting and appearing quite angry McDonald quickly shut down all comments and avoided questions. Today we managed to sit down with the young man and hear what he truly had to say.

Reporter: So Drake, take us back to last weeks loss. You seemingly exploded on reporters and then quickly pleaded no comment to the rest of the questions.

Drake: Phew, I was just really angry. It had nothing to do with anyone in particular, I just was frustrated and annoyed by our loss. I'm a passionate guy. I make sure my voice is heard and I wasn't happy.

R: Is it with your team, coaches, who were you mad at?

D: Myself mainly. I can't say I was 'angry' with our team just a little disappointed. I know we can do better then that. I know it. I know I can do better then that. I didn't even get a sack. We all could have done something different and I'm not pointing fingers but we all gotta work a little harder for next week. We've got something to prove now.

R: Still think you are going to led the league in sacks and finish 1st in your division?

D: Of course I do. We had one bad game. It's better that it comes now rather then deep in our playoff run. We're growing every day, there's bound to be a hiccup here and there.

R: Moving on from all that, how is life in Honolulu?

D: It's beautiful. Perfect honestly. I love the fans, they have welcomed us into their home and support us every game. I've seen a few little surfer kids wearing #97 here and there and I laughed. It's awesome.

R: How's the party scene?

D: Different really. I mean I still have fun, I've found a little group to hang out with. Good people. A few of them are trying to teach me how to surf but for now, I'll stay away from that.

R: Getting along well with your coaches?

D: Yeah. I mean, I'm not Mr. Problem so don't expect me to be constantly getting into fights with people. You guys label me so bad. I'm just another trouble maker to you media people. I'm not. I'm a Human being. I'm getting along great with my coaches and working as hard as I can to be the best I can and give them a great player.

R: How have you bonded with your teammates?

D: We're all bonding more every day that passes. I've got a good relationship with Scott Carr. He's a solid guy and a great player. Ever since that forced fumble we've gotten along really well and I'm proud to be his team-mate. We're all new to each other but we're meshing better with each game. All around we've got guys who can straight out play.

R: Thanks for clearing some things up Drake, best of luck next game.

D: Uh huh. Thank you.

Leopold Carmichael: Sexiest Man Alive
Omaha Kangaroo's Offensive threat wins online poll in a landslide
By Marla Lehner

Although football pundits may claim he doesn't have ideal size, first year player Leopold Carmichael is taking the DCFL by storm. Already with three Touchdowns in the team's first two games, Carmichael is showing the same electrifying ability that earned him the Heisman trophy last year, as the nation's most outstanding college football player.

Evidently, he is also causing some excitement off the field with the hearts of women young and old all over America. Carmichael, who has modeled on and off throughout college, dominated this year's crop of men by receiving a whopping 72% of the vote. Last year winner Hugh Jackman finished second with 8% of the voting.

Fulgrim Chemos Talks Week 2 Win, Match Up With Jabroni James

Memphis DE Fulgrim Chemos had a dominant performance last week. But he's not resting on his laurel's. He's working just as hard, if not harder, this week, in preparation to play against one of the league's top offensive tackles, Jabroni James.

"I felt really good last week. It felt great to be recognized by coach and my teammates. But that's not it. I'm not done after one good game. I realized that I need to work that hard every week to be successful at this level. And I'm working even harder this week because I know who I'm going up against."

Who he's going up against is the league's #1 offensive tackle Jabroni James. New Orleans rolled last week, and Chemos knows he's going to have to come up big to slow down New Orleans potent rushing attack.

"I know James is a great player. But that's exactly the kind of guy I want to play against. I want to play against the best, to challange myself and bring out my full potential. It will help me reach perfection. And I've been working hard to be perfect this week. You know, I heard James said that if they ran behind him, they should be alright. Now, no disrespect to him, but I feel like that would be a mistake. I think I'm the best run defender in this league, and I don't care who I'm going against, or how many guys I'm going against, I don't think teams can run towards me. And I'll run down plays from behind. And to be honest, If I can get a body on two guys, that just frees up guys like Normand Jackson to flash in and make plays at the line."

When told that James hasn't given up a sack yet this season, Chemos was adamant.

"I want to be the guy to give him his first sack. This isn't college anymore. I know these are the best of the best. But he needs to know that as well. You know, I feel like this is going to be a great game, and a great battle. I am absolutely going to come out there intense, and I hope he's ready and been practicing his butt off, becauee I know I've been going all out for this game."

"But I have to say, what I want is a win. I said before that losses are unacceptable, and that still goes. Nothing's changed. And I'll do everything I can to make sure we don't lose this game. When we have guys like Jackson and Owens and Peefington and Baby, I feel like we have the perfect group to stop what they like to do. We have ferocious run defenders, and I think we can stop them."

"Regardless, I think James and I are going to battle all day. I hope he's ready because I know I am."

Fans should also be ready. Because this game promises to be one that will be remembered for a long time.

Killstone And New Orleans Not Concerned

Posted:July 28, 2009 1759 CT | Adam Schefter | TagsDCFL, New Orleans Nightmare, Memphis Showboats, Anger Killstone, Jabroni James, David McMurray, Tank Jackson, Fulgrim Chaos, Normand Jackckson

I caught up with Anger Killstone, fullback for the New Orleans Nightmare, recently about his teams week three matchup with the Memphis Showboats and their stingy defense. When I intimated that Memphis' physically imposing style of play might hamper his teams ability to run the ball Anger responded by saying, "We've got what we need to run the ball on anybody. It was fate. Fate brought Jabroni James, David McMurray, Tank Jackson, Tennessee Ruthaford, and myself together. We're all players that want to line up and beat the guy across from us. Old school run the ball down your throat kind of players and we're all pretty damn good at it. Memphis has a great defense don't get me wrong, but Jabroni and David can handle their defensive line, I'm confident that I can handle then next guy in the hole, and Tank can beat the last guy and that's all you need. There are going to be some collisions out there, I promise you that. I can not wait.

When I asked him about their woes passing the ball Anger shrugged it off. He replied, "Trinity is a big play receiver and Tank and myself are both good enough receivers out of the backfield. It's just a case of our team would rather stick it down your throat. We could do more swing passes and screens, we definitely have the tools for it, but it's no secret that we would rather just line up and run the ball."

Next week we shall see if the leagues top defense or the leagues top rushing attack comes out on top. If Killstone's confidence is an indicator I would most certainly bet on the later.

Pre-Game Interview With Dax Bellavia, Memphis HC
http://blog.cleveland.com/browns_impact/2008/12/large_bill-cowher-2.jpg

Coach, how do you feel about today's game?

We feel good. We're coming into this game prepared. We had a damn good week of practice and can't wait to see how that translates on the field.

What do you plan to do to stop New Orleans offense?

We have a few things up our sleeve that we have been working on. We're going to throw them a few different looks that they have not seen before. We have a couple new attack schemes we have installed specifically for them. We plan to keep their offensive line on their toes.

How about your offense, Coach? Anything new?

Yeah, we have a few new looks we're going to try. We're going to deviate from the norm a bit and see what happens. We were very happy with the results in practice and are hoping that translates to the field. That's one thing about having this defense to practice against. We can see what works and what doesn't work.

How has the Special Teams unit been? You struggled the past two weeks...

Yeah, yeah. We worked very hard on kickoffs and field goals in practice. Louis D'Amore looked very good, better than he has before. We hope that translates to the game.

What kind of game do you expect?

We wouldn't like it to be as close as was last week. Hopefully, things go our way.

Thank you, Coach. Good luck!

Thanks.

Half-Time Interview With Dax Bellavia, Memphis HC
http://stevelutz.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/cowher.jpg

Coach, what do you think about the effort thus far?

We have got to settle our asses down! We can't get into a rhythm on offense. I was talking to them on the sideline telling them to settle down, make your reads, look for the open man. Bennett is running too soon and not looking for the open receiver. We have got to try and settle down.

How about your defense?

Their playing their hearts out. But they need a break. Our offense needs to stay on the field longer and put up some points to take some of the pressure off of those guys.

This is the second week in a row that you've been in a dogfight. What do you think about that?

I don't like it. I was expecting this game to be close but I was hoping we would be up on them at half-time. It's exciting, isn't it? But that score means we have got to move our ass down field and get into the end zone.

Best of luck in the second half, Coach

Yeah, thanks.

Tommy Lucky: So Erin what is the word down on the field as the Showboats and the Nightmare head into the locker room at half-time.

Erin Andrews: Tom, I was able to talk briefly with MLB, Normand Jackson. He prised the team play of the defensive unit, and was pleased that they were holding their ground. He also said to just be patient with the offense; that it will come around. QB Will Bennett also sounded confident that the second half would see some significant offensive production.

Tommy Lucky: Thanks Erin.

Half Time Report With Rachael Nichols and Roman David Sanchez

RN: How do you think the first half went for you guys?
RDS: I think it went pretty well. We were stopping everything they did and if I woulda been just a bit faster- we'd be up 3-0 right now but I'm not sweating it.

RN: You already have a sack and a couple of hurries- do you think Memphis'll change up their scheme to try to block you a bit better?
RDS: Honestly, it doesn't matter to me. Their schemes and gameplan don't effect me because my job doesn't change. I'm going to get into that backfield and make plays- Memphis can try all they want to execute whatever it is they're trying to do.

RN: Alot of the hype went to the battle between your teams offense vs the Memphis defense. Who do you think has won the battle so far?
RDS: It's tied up right now but we'll see how the second half goes. We might only have 3 points up right now and running game really has got anything going- but honestly- how long to you see that lasting? It's only a matter of time before we bust out and run crazy so keep your eyes open because the 2nd half is going to be much much more interesting.

RN: Thank you, Roman. Back to you at that studio now.

Back to Bristol where we'll check in with the countdown crew:

Chris: A hard fought battle throughout the first half in New Orleans, but we remain at level pegging, Memphis, 3 New Orleans, 3. What are the keys to the second half Tom?

Tom: Chris, both teams are hungary on defense and both teams want to run the ball on offense. This has led to some giant collisions and not much movement on the ball. So far, both teams have been content to stick with their game plan and wait for the other team to break. It will be interesting to see if that continues in the second half.

Chris: Let's go back to New Orleans where we'll listen in to the Nightmare's locker room.

(Anger Killstone is standing on a bench surrounded by team mates, he's screaming at the top of his lungs)

"WE HAVE TO PLAY BETTER OUT THERE! Don't quit on each other guys, we're are going to break through! WE ARE GOING TO BREAK THROUGH! They are winning right now, the score is tied, but they are winning. All week everybody wanted to talk about how great their defense was, well, WE'RE PROVING THEM ALL RIGHT! We are losing right now and I hate to lose, I know you all hate to lose too. We're losing right now, but we haven't lost. Do not accept losing, ever. I'm going to tell you a story, a couple years ago I was in Afghanistan down in Kandahar on a mission with my team. We were on our way to the back air base when we walked over a ridge to find about 40 or 50 Al Qaeda crossing over from Pakistan. There were only 12 of us, they saw us on the ridge and they lit us up. We didn't panic though we knew what to do, we had a plan and we weren't going to accept defeat. We were dug in for almost two days fighting those guys, but we made it out because we refused to lose. On that team, just like this team, the only thing I asked my guys was to give me everything they had. Not everything they thought they had, but everything they have. Push until you find your limit gents. Give each other everything you have to give, and we will break through. WIN on three..."

Chris: A rousing half time speech by fullback Anger "License to" Killstone, kinda makes me want to hit somebody.

Tom: I'm pumped Chris, I can't wait for the second half to start.

Chris: Back to the boys in New Orleans as we prepare to start the second half...

Chemos Looks Hungry For Second Half

We just saw Fulgrim Chemos coming out of the locker room. He had that look in his eye, the same one we saw before the last play of the game against Indy. We got a quick comment from him on the way out of the locker room as he went past.

"Here it comes. Be ready."

Leather motorcycles chaps - check

2010 Harley Davidson CVO "Fat Bob" motorcycle - check

Biker nickname of "Boone" - check

Tatoo on his right shoulder of an American Flag with the words "These colors don't run" - check

Looking more like a biker then a pro football player, Donald Schoenstein, parks his "hog" in his San Fransisco home's garage. "It's the most amazing experience in the world, just to ride down the hi-way on such a beautiful American piece of workmanship." At 6'3'', 260 lbs, no one is going to disagree with the starting TE for the DCFL Sacramento Attack. "If you've never ridden a Harley, I'm not quiet sure your an American. There's just this sort of freedom you feel when your traveling down the road; people make room for you when you're on one of these things."

People making room for Schoenstien is not an uncommon thing, especially on the football field. Having played offensive line all through high school, Donald was turned into a Tight End in college by his coaches at Cal. "I had the hands to be able to catch the ball, but at the same time knocking a tackle out of the way for someone to run through a hole was no problem either."
As a mater of fact, it was so little of a problem, that Drew Wilhelm, Cal teammate and DT for the Indianapolis Raptors still remembers just how easily Shoenstien would move people. "You hated for him to be lined up on your side of the field in practice. You knew he was either going to be knocking you over by blocking you or it was going to be hell trying to knock him down if he caught a pass. The man is just solid."

http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/7189/dshoenstien2.jpg

Thus far this season, Shoenstien has been a solid yet subdued contributer to the Attacks' offense. Having received minimal passes from QB Scott Wright, Donald has been used more as a blocking TE and decoy for WR's T.J. Sunstein and Tony Taylor. Make no mistake however, his presence on the field makes a world of difference. "I'm not there to be a superstar. At the end of the day, I know if I did my job or not. I'm certainly not going to be the one you see dancing around people to get any yards. I'll go through you sooner then I'd rather go around you."

"We're at half-time between the New Orleans Nightmare and the Memphis Showboats. The score is all tied 3-3. Both teams looks to be coming out of the locker room right now. Our very own Suzie Kolber is down on the sidelines and she has caught up with Memphis quarterback William Bennett. Let's go down on the field to see what he has to say..."

SK: William, the offense seems to be struggling a bit. What do you guys have to do to get into a rhythm?

That's all on me. I gotta watch my reads and not leave the pocket. This defense is relentless, man. They pursue and then pursue some mo'. I just gotta settle down.

What did you guys discuss during halftime that may change the success you have had on offense?

We're gonna stick to our game plan. If we do that, we're going get that "W". I know what we're capable of, we just gotta put it all together. We're gonna surprise them with a couple of things that we do.

How do you think the matchup is going between your defense and their offense?

We're going to wear them down. They got some talent, I gotta respect that. But our defense is hungry and relentless. Coach was discussing that in the locker room. He was saying how we're going to throw them some different looks that they didn't see in the first half. I'm excited to watch that. They won't know what hit 'em. Their used to getting hit in the mouth, their about to see what its like to get hit back.

What can we expect from you in the second half?

Except me and the offense to put some more points on the board. We got a fire under our butts. We put up 10 the first game and 16 the second game and only 3 now. We're going to show them what this offense is capable of when we click on all cylinders, baby!

Thanks, Will.I.Am. Good luck in the second half.

Thanks, Suzie. See ya around, baby.

A chat about last week and the next with QB Devin Saint
by Indianapolis Star reporter Brent Davis

Brent Davis: Well after a tough loss like last week how do you rebound going forward, Devin?

Devin Saint: It's not easy, I'll say that much. I'm a competitor and I don't like losing so it's tough for me to get over losses, but in football you can't win every game so it's important to look towards improving yourself for the next game.

Davis: So do you feel like this loss is because the offenses lack of production?

Saint: Absolutely. This is the second week in a row the defense has carried us and this time we didn't have anything to show for it. Memphis has a great defense but there is no reason we shouldn't be able to score enough points to beat them. We need to get it together and put some points up on the score board.

Davis: You were seeing a lot of pressure during the game, does the offensive line take credit for that?

Saint: I don't think it was the offensive lines fault. The Steamboats have a great defensive line in addition to a great defense in general. They did a good job and I felt like I should have been getting rid of the ball quicker too.

Davis: Explain to us what happened on the last play of the game.

Saint: I was just looking to make a quick pass to the end zone but they did a good job in coverage. In the end I just held onto the ball far too long. I had an opportunity to throw the ball up and give us a chance but I hesitated and it cost us.

Davis: So are you saying the loss is on you?

Saint: I think I'm very accountable for this loss, yes. It's a team effort out there but I had a chance to win the game and messed it up. I just have to do everything in my power so it doesn't happen again.

Davis: How about next weeks match up?

Saint: Well it's certainly going to be tough. Chicago has one of the best defenses in the league so it's going to be another tough day as an offense but I think we'll find a way to manage. We're actually a pretty similar team. Both defensively oriented with tremendous defensive lines. It should be a fun game.

Davis: Thanks for the time, Devin.

Saint: No problem, Brent.

Post Game Interview With Dax Bellavia, Memphis HC
http://assets.nydailynews.com/img/2008/12/30/alg_bill_cowher.jpg

Coach, what a game! What were your thoughts during Norman Jackson's interception?

I was jumping up and down the side line yelling my ass off. I thought he was going to take it back. I gave him a huge man hug when he came back to the sideline. That was a HUGE play for us.

New Orleans Coach Tommy Brooklyn made a great adjustment at half-time. Were you expecting that?

We were actually expecting him to do that sooner but our defense got complacent with them running up the middle. I think it took us a little off guard. But we stepped up big. We showed them what the Showboat defense is all about.

How do you think your offense performed today?

We need to get more points. We have got to figure out a way to keep our offense on the field and take the defense off to give them a breather. We're going to go into practice this week geared up to find a way to control the ball more.

I tell you what, this game could not have been closer. New Orleans has a hell of a team and they left it all on the field. They have nothing to be ashamed about, they left their hearts on the field. It was tremendous. I walked up to Anger Killstone after the game and told him how great he played and that we hope to meet them again in the playoffs. I'm just going to savor this victory.

FOX: Jabroni whats happened today?
Jabroni: Our offense never got clicking. There defence is one the best in the league but I feel when we play them again we will be able to score more

FOX: So who stood out on both teams in your mind?
Jabroni: Normand Jackson and Tyson Kase-Owens played good today. For us Id say I played pretty good and Anger Killstone had a good game too

FOX: 1-2, what is wrong with the team?
Jabroni: On both sides of the ball we are good. But none will win us the game. It has to be a team effort for us to win right now

FOX: Alright last question, Ive heard you have your 2nd MMA fight in a few days. Who will your opponent be?
Jabroni: Well it was going to be Lennox Lewis but he dropped out so now it will be Tank Abbott

FOX: Thanks Jabroni good luck in the fight and the rest of the season

Local fan base says "Yes" to "No-No"

http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/2623/njwithfan1.jpg

They tell you not to forget where you came from. They tell you to remember the little people. Normand Jackson was paying attention when they said these things. So when Mikey Thomas approached him at the Memphis training facility sporting a USC sweatshirt, "I had to go over and talk to the little guy." said Jackson.

Thomas, 9, was on cloud 9 when Jackson handed him his helmet and asked Mikey for help. "He's famous and he's still cool." beamed Thomas, whos parents, Samantha and Robert are USC alums and thereby Jackson fans automatically. "I'm glad we have a local sports star who appreciates his younger fan base and can be such a positive role model." the senior Thomas added. In addition to the meeting with the Showboats star middle-linebacker, Thomas walked away with an autographed football. "Fans are the reason we are able to play in a league like this, so, yeah, we're the ones who should be appreciative.", Jackson went on to say.

Jackson was the 4th overall pick in the DCFL draft this year and his interception of New Orleans' QB, Seneca Williams in the fourth-quarter proved to be a key play in the Showboats 10-9, nail-biting victory. Had it not been for a shoe-string tackle by Nightmare RB "Tank" Williams, Jackson would have sealed the victory personally. "It would have been awesome to have scored. Two more seconds and I was there" laughed Jackson. Jackson and the Showboats take on the Chicago Pandas in week 4.

Owens in practice after defeating the New Orleans Nightmare in a game defined by the play of the defense

Memphis, TN -- Resting on laurels. Something Coach Dax Bellavia refused to let his team do, especially, the defense. The leaders of the D: Chemos, Jackson, Owens, and Peefington, have been bringing new energy to the practice facility. "I feel it's important to keep working like we're trying to win our first game. Complacency is sure way to start losing." said Tyson Owens.

"This is a team effort but, we can't wait for others to make the big play.. sometimes we gotta make it ourselves and feel that you're the best player out there ya know?" Tyson also said. He was referring to his fourth quarter interception that sealed the game against the New Orleans Nightmare last weekend. In a game that was decided by tough team defensive play, Normand Jackson and Tyson Owens stood out among many stellar performances.

"Everyone had a good game. We rose to the occasion and did what he had to do to win the game. I feel that we did what we set out to accomplish in stopping the run game." In this upcoming week, the Showboats are traveling north to midwest Chicago to face the high potent offensive attack of the Pandas.

"They definitely got a good offense and we match up well with them. The WRs are talented but our defense is the best in the league. Passing or running on us is a hard task to accomplish. One of our mottos here in Memphis is: 'heads down, heads off'. It basically means, be headstrong and take heads off. We can do it."

Bodybuilding.com - Part 1 of Interview with TJ Sunstein

http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p19/princekit_2007/F184585.jpg

When did you first realize that football was your passion?
When I first realized it, it had to be in Pee Wee football. I always loved watching the game but being able to compete was the best part.

Did you have any idea at that time what type of dedication and training it would take to make it to the top of your field?
Through middle school was a breeze. You showed up, you played. High school was when I realized the type of efforts you had to put in. You get out of it what you put in. Everyone has to put their time in to be successful. It's lazy and inexcusable not to.

Were you always supported and encouraged about your choice of career path and ambitions for the DCFL?
Definitely. I think it's more of a dream come true for my parents then it is for me. They always backed me in what I wanted to do and seeing me play on a high level like this can't be any more satisfying to them.

What obstacles have you had to surpass to get to the Professional Athlete that you are today?
I'm not very fast and in high school, obviously I wasn't as big as I am now. I must've grown 4 inches since my senior year of high school. It was tough going against those cornerbacks that had the speed to stick to your side. Luckily, I had the resources to become better both coaching wise and in the gym.

What has been one of your highlighting moments that really accentuated your skills cementing your determination to propel yourself to succeed as the exceptional athlete that you are and ultimately get picked in the draft to become part of the Attack?
Recieving that offer from Oklahoma State. It gave me a sign of life for my football career. They were the only D-1 team that offered me. I'm very grateful for that.

What do you see as the biggest difference between being a great amateur and moving forward as a Professional athlete?
Being a professional athlete is as much as a job as anything else. Some people work 8 hours a day, sometimes I work 12. Whether it's working out, watching film, or team meetings. There's always work to be done.

Halftime Interview with TJ Sunstein

http://chelseat.myweb.uga.edu/bonniebernstein.jpg

Hey TJ, good first half out there. We all saw your touchdown, walk us through the play.
Well, I was lined up against the third string corner on his first play of the game so Scott and I decided to test him. The conditions got the best of him off the snap and Scott was able to recognize that. He got the ball to me and I was able to do the rest.

That was a big hit to go through the corner on the way to the endzone, was your celebration geared to mock him?
Absolutely not. It was more for the fans. They're sitting out here in the rain and supporting out so I did something fun for them. Obviously, I didn't want to draw the penalty but luckily it didn't effect us.

What do you need to do in the second half to win this game?
Be smart with the ball. Control the clock and hold them to short possessions.

Thanks and good luck in the second half.
Thank you.

Bad weather doesn't dampen Sacramento's spirits
http://l.yimg.com/eb/ymv/us/img/hv/photo/movie_pix/warner_brothers/any_given_sunday/rainplay.jpg

Despite seasonally unusual weather, Sacramento improved to 3-0, winning out in a a rain drenched game to Pittsburgh. "We didn't prepare for this at all and I doubt they [Pittsburgh] did either. The weather man can suck an egg for all I care right now." was the comment from Sacramento Coach Chuck Sampson. The Explosion started of in the lead after a Rex Birch field goal in the first quarter. However, after a 34 yard TD pass from Scott Wright to T.J. Sunstein, Sacramento would never look back. Both team would add field goals before the half.

After half-time Sampson and the Attack would employ a plan of ball and clock control that would allow zero, second half points from Pittsburgh and net two receiving touchdowns from their fullback and running back respectively in the 3rd and 4th quarter.

"This was by no means any easy win, I've been coaching professionally for over 30 years and have yet to see that game. But we certainly benefited from some mismatches and we certainly hope that Pittsburgh doesn't lose anyone for any longer then they have to.", Sampson finished, clearly making reference to Kenny Mustain, the Explosion's free-safety. Initial reports from the trainers is that Mustain will be out with a sprained ACL for 4-6 weeks. Sacramento is set to take on Las Vegas at home next week.

Post Game Interview with Jackalopes LT Ray Tyson following their First Win of the Season

Ray, How does it feel to finally get your first win?

It feels great. I think we showed the DCFL what we're capable of. I felt we were underachieved in the past two weeks and we stepped it up this week against a good Honolulu team. I'm proud of our guys and hopefully we can keep this momentum rolling.

What were the keys to victory?

Execution. We were able to execute at key moments in the game and made plays when we need to. The offense played better. Logan (Stevens) had another great game. There's a reason he's the best TE in the DCFL. Azi (Kwame) and Dwayne (Camacho) were both exceptional as they were both able to come up with big plays. The O-Line stepped it up today. I think the key was we went in with the mentality that nobody was going to out-physical us and we delivered.

What did you guys do differently this week opposed to the last two weeks?

We finished. The last two weeks, we were in a position to win the game and we didn't make the plays when we needed to. That was biggest difference.

Can you talk about the play of Herman Plainview?

HW was really solid today. He made a lot plays today. Him and Logan Stevens have a great conncetion. The thing I admire most about him is he's physically and mentally tough. We have confidence that he can get the job done no matter the circumstances.

Talk about your battle with Drake McDonald today.

It was definitely a battle. Drake goes hard every snap and has a very good all around game. He got by me earlier in the game though I felt as the game went on I was really able to take over. I know both of us are going to sore tomorrow.

You guys play Omaha next week. What are your thought on them?

I didn't know that until you told me. I really wasn't looking past this game at all. Uhhh...I know they got some good WR's but I feel we got the best CB tandem in the league. One thing I know is no matter who we play, nobody is going to more physical and there's going to be hole if you run behind me. I'm looking foward to watching the film.

Thanks for time Ray.

Yeah, no problem.

Post-Game Interview With Darius Bain

So Darius, another win for the Attack. How are you feeling right now?

Great. I feel great. It's always nice to get a win for the home crowd.

Have you ever played in that type of weather before and did it hinder your play at all today?

I don't know if I've played in weather that bad before, but it didn't really affect me at all. I'm like the post office. I deliver in rain, sleet, or snow.

You were injured in your last game and weren't playing at 100% today, yet you managed to have another good day. What can you attribute that to?

I told you guys before, the pain doesn't phase me. I just want to make the other guy hurt more than I do. Plus I have a great bunch of guys around me to make playing at my best a lot easier.

You seem to have a knack for being in the right place at the right time, as you already have 2 fumble recoveries and an interception. Is it just luck or what?

That's preparation and hours spent watching film. I watch film for a couple of hours every day after my workouts. And then its good coaching from the whole coaching staff. When all those things come together, good things happen.

So after a big win, any celebrating?

Ha! No. First it's into the hot tub to warm up, then its back into the film room. We've got another game to prepare for.

Alright, thanks for spending time with us.

Sure, no problem.

Julio Stone Post Game Week 3

Reporter #1: What can you say about your play after a game like that?

JS: 9 catches and 214 yards. 4 touchdowns. It speaks for itself. Julio Stone is the best player in the league simple as that. I went out there and proved it tonight.

Reporter #2: Julio, what can you say about your teams effort to beat a strong Vegas team?

JS: My teammates are really just stepping up to the task at hand. We knew the offense would be incredible, but the defense has played their role as well. Crail has been working like a madman after his poor outing in game one, and is really learning. Especially the situations in which you just gotta throw it up and let Julio do his thing. And of course Bolt and Leo are making things happen as well.

Reporter 3: How did it feel to stick it to a Vegas team that courted you heavily throughout the draft process?

JS: It was amazing. It's just one of those moments where you are in the game, and know you cannot be stopped. I mean, I was seeing as many as 4 people in my space, but I just knew if the ball was near my, I was getting that. I did say that I was going to love playing in Vegas because not only the Vegas staff, but the fans got to see what they were missing out on. Of course they showed me nothing at first because that is their nature, but they feel in love with Julio Stone at the end of the game.

Reporter 4: At one point you were seen pointing at the fans after a touchdwon. Can you explain that for us?

JS: I wanted to let them know, that I'd be back for more. And I come through on my promises. Julio doesn't disappoint.

Reporter 5: Can you just sum up your performance for us?

JS: When you are a player such as myself, it's very rare that you don't perform up to standards that you set. You are often going to have very good games, but there are times like this when legendary players put up performances that kids will be talking about 50 years later. That's just what happened tonight. Julio Stone is the greatest wide receiver alive, and he proved it with a little extra tonight.

Reporter 6: Julio, is it fair to say you were happy with the game plan?

JS: Of course, can't complain when we are playing like this, and I perform as well as I did. I talked to Crail and Coach a lot this week. I just let them know, this is my spotlight. Julio's going to get his. I don't care about how many people they have on me, just chuck it up. Put the ball in my area, and I'm going to catch it. Throw and watch the show.

Reporter 7: Two part question. First, do you think you can ever duplicate this performance, and what do you think teams need to do stop you?

JS: I will put up a better performance than this one day. You can lock that up. Part of being a superstar, is having the potential to do something bigger and better every week you go out on the field. It could be next week, could be in the playoffs this year. I don't know. But you've got to always have something bigger and better for the fans.

And I'm not sure what teams can do to stop me. I really have very little advice other than to stop trying. Seriously. I mean, watch the tape this week. I was seeing 3 men coverages constantly, sometimes even 4. 4 goddamn guys trying to cover me. And it just didn't work. Maybe just focus more on some of the other guys so they don't beat you up too bad in addition? I just don't know. What I can tell you is there just isn't a way to slow down a motivated Julio Stone. Prepare you self Kwame. Your next on my list. (Stone signals he's done and walks away).

Half-Time Interview With Chicago Pandas CB Elvis Jackson

http://cache.deadspin.com/assets/resources/2008/02/gusjohnsonhi.jpg

Gus Johnson:Hi, I am Gus Johnson and here is Elvis Jackson of the Chicago Pandas joining me at halftime. How are you doing?

Elvis Jackson: I am doing great, we are leading at the moment and I hope we can maintain this lead.

Gus Johnson: You had that big fumble recovery that changed the momentum of the game. How does it feel?

Elvis Jackson: Well, I am not proud or anything, I mean, I was just at the right place at the right time. Slider just really hit Reed hard and I saw the ball right in front of me. The next thing I know was me standing in the endzone.

Gus Johnson: What do you say about that incredible 71-yard FG Ike Stantios made?

Elvis Jackson: It is great, although we all expected him to make it. He hits 80 yarders at practice all the time, it is really ridiculous.

Gus Johnson: What the coaches say?

Elvis Jackson: Well the coaches are always pushing us. Even if we are leading, they want us to give everything we have and they push us as if we are behind. They are great motivators. I got to get back to the locker room though. Sorry

Gus Johnson: No problem, thanks for the interview

Owens, shown reprising his roll as field general at the showboats practice on Thursday

Memphis, TN --Tyson Owens was a busy man this past practice session down in Memphis. We tried his hand at quarterback, running back, and receiver. He also took a dip into the return game.

"I'm just doing what I can. Our offense needs a bit of help and we're all trying to fix that problem. I'm probably gonna stick with the D though because this unit is special." Owens says.

http://blog.cleveland.com/sports/2008/08/medium_Ohio%20state
Owens returning the ball

Some of the highlights of the days practice came from Tyson Owens trying out receiver and returner. "His athletic ability was really shown today and taken into consideration but I think he'd be more of a help on defense." The rest of the practice turned into a defensive game planning session. Rightly so, since Chicago totes around one of the most potent offenses in the land.

"As a defensive unit, we were focused all practice and learned what we needed to do to win. Coach has their team players and tendencies down to a key and him filtering that information out to us is real helpful. Memphis will be ready for Chicago come game day."

Coach Foster Postgame Interview Week 3

Coach, are you happy with the win today?
Well, as a coach, you're going to be happy any time your team wins. We happened to be going against one of the toughest teams in the Eastern Conference in the Chicago Pandas and we're happy to come away with a hard fought win. Of course there are a few things we'd like to improve on, just like most game. The defense allowed 150 yards rushing. The offense was great, but Reed had that costly fumble. Our coverage unit struggled again. We have no shortage of thins to work on in practice this week, and I'll see to it that we do work on them and improve.

Special Teams have consistently been a problem for your team coach, do you have any plans to turn this around?
Well, to be honest with you, I saw enough today that I'm going to make a big change, in fact I'll even announce it to you guys: we're playing Demond Decker as a gunner on special teams from this point forward in the season. I've been trying to keep him on the sideline for everything but defense, but he's an excellent gunner, and our special teams have struggled so much, I'm hoping this is the spark they'll need to right the ship.

Devin Saint had a special day coach, any comments on that?
Well, any time your QB completes his first 20 passes, that's going to help your offensive gameplan tremendously. The experts may not agree with me, but we feel Devin is the best QB in this league and a perfect fit for our offense. He came up with some last minute magic for us again, too, that's 2 4th quarter comebacks in the span of three weeks, and it would have been 3 if not for Chemos. He's just a special QB, and we're glad to have him on our team.

Wyoming to Feel Right at Home in Omaha

Several Factors Have Chet Taylor Confident in His Week Four Matchup

By Arnie Stapleton

With the Jackalopes and Kangaroos scheduled to play their first border-battle rivalry game Sunday, Coach Chet Taylor had some optimistic words while talking to the press. “I expect this to be almost like a home game for us. I think we’ll see about the same number of Jackalope fans there as we will Kangaroo fans.” Wyoming and Nebraska’s geographical proximity won’t be the only reason for a large number of Jackalope antlers in the crowd. Following the preseason rumors about a relocation from Omaha to a larger market city, many Nebraska residents gave their support to the Jackalopes. Julio Stone and other players openly lobbied for a team move to Texas or Los Angeles, and, while no move has been made, it’s surely shaken the Kangaroo fanbase. At the time, most Nebraskans hadn’t pledged their loyalties to Omaha, and a large number made the decision to back the Jack’s. That, along with the well-traveling Wyoming fans has Coach Taylor expecting a good Jackalope turnout.

However, the extra fan support isn’t the only reason Coach Taylor is excited about the matchup. “I love the way our team matches up on both side of the ball,” said Taylor. “It’s a perfect week for our offense to really start clicking.” With both Chet Taylor and Win Butler known as offensive specialists, Wyoming’s 16 points per game has been a bit disappointing. “We’ve had a couple decent games on offense, but definitely not to the point that we’re capable of. With what we’ve been doing in practice this week and what we’ve been seeing on film, I think HW [Plainview] and the offense are ready to really break-out.” Taylor’s optimism extended to the defense as well. “Omaha is obviously known for their offensive fire-power, but our players are certainly up for the challenge.” If any team in the league is capable of shutting-down the Kangaroo receivers, it would be Wyoming. The league’s best receiving duo in Julio Stone and “Bolt” Williams will match up against the league’s best cornerback duo in Azi Kwame and Dwayne Comacho. The Jackalope secondary has played exceptionally well this season, and the physical man-to-man play of the corners is expected to continue in week 4. Meanwhile, Julio Stone is coming off the most prolific individual performance by any player in DCFL history, and Azi Kwame will have his hands full, even with extra help over top. “I’ve talked a lot with Azi and Dwayne, and they know what they’ll have to deal with, but I think both of them are looking forward to the opportunity to prove themselves.” Last week facing Honolulu, Azi Kwame intercepted a pass for a touchdown, while Dwayne Comacho clinched the victory with an interception of his own. If the defense is indeed able to control the Kangaroos, Wyoming should pull to 2-2. If not, fans can expect a shootout in Omaha.

"It's what we call violence of action, you can't hesitate. Hesitation, even for a second, is what loses battles."

Anger Killstone, the emotional leader of the New Orleans Nightmare gave me some insight into his leadership style and techniques earlier today. He said of his leadership style, "It's a matter of accountability. If you know in your heart that failing will let down more than you, it will let down the guy next to you, you will be surprised at what you can accomplish." Anger uses every possible opportunity to inspire team building, from weight lifting contests to team diners to players only meetings and practices. Killstone said, "Honestly, this is fun for me. In the Special Forces when I was training my team, and making those bonds, in the back of your head you thought that you could be leading these guys into a battle that they won't walk away from. That is pressure. This is football, this is competition, it's fun and I couldn't do it any other way. I can't be passive." Killstone and the Nightmare suffered there second loss in the first three games of their history and Killstone looked nothing but inspired when I brought his teams losses up. "Never accept defeat, that has sort of been my montra, and I will live up to it, we all do. There is always something we can be doing better, or differently at least. This season is not lost and we will rebound. We've got too much talent, and heart not to."

After a predraft conflict of personality with Dominik Coleman, pundits around the league foresaw drama in New Orleans when they were both selected by the Nightmare and became team mates. Expectations were met last week when the two butted heads in the locker room after a DK Coleman "tweet" that Killstone found unflattering. "I respect Coleman very much. He and Roman hold it down on defense, they are incredible both of them. The way I've always looked at stuff like that is people can be fixed if there's a problem. If there's an issue, we fix it and drive on. We had an issue, we fixed it and now we're driving on. The concept of a team is inherently the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. A team can never reach it's true potential until everyone buys into that concept. I believe that Dominik has bought into that and that we have only seen the tip of the iceberg in terms of what the New Orleans Nightmare and Dominik Coleman are going to do on the field."

Outside Linebacker of the New Orleans Nightmares has been linked to play Clark Kent in the upcoming Superman movie scheduled to begin filming at the end of the season. Conviniently, it's a week after the Championship game so it is very possible. Roman David Sanchez was asked if the rumors were true while heading to practice this morning. All he had to say was, "All I'm focused on right now is football. At the end of the season, I'll probably just be focused and training on the next."
With that said- He never answered the question. I guess we'll find out at the end of the year then

Fulgrim Chemos Talks on Big Win, Next Week

Fulgrim Chemos is doing power cleans on Monday.

"Coach said we had a day off, but you can't be the best if you don't train as hard as you can."

Coming off a hard fought victory over New Orleans, Chemos is not taking a break. He knows that in order to keep winning, he needs to keep working. When asked his thoughts on the game and the season so far, he had this to say:

"First I want to say that my teammates desrve the credit for this win. Normand and Tyson came up huge. And I'd also like to say that Butch doesn't get enough credit for these wins. That guy is an animal, and he's basically won us both games. He blocked that punt that we recovered in the end zone in week 2, and he blocked that extra point last week. It was the margin of victory both times."

"I thought we played well last week. They were a tough team, but we played them hard. You know, Jabroni James was the toughest test I've ever had. I didn't give him his first sack, but I thought I played him great against the run."

Speaking of the run, what did he have to say about the huge block by FB Anger Killstone"

Laughter. "He blew me up. You know, it's the hubris of the big guy versus the little guy. I knew how good a blocker he was, but I still went in high expecting to overpower him. He put his head in my chest and blew me up. Simple as that. But I know what I did now. That won't happen again. That just motivated me for this week. It's just another step toward perfection. You can't achieve perfection without failure. That's one thing I've learned."

As he throws up another massive power clean, the look in his eye tells you that perfection may not be that far away.

ESPN sources have just learned that Memphis CB Orion Johnson (85 OVR) is now on the trading block. The team has not let any names slip of exactly who they are targeting but it is safe to speculate that they want a WR or RB in exchange.

Wave defensive coordinator Elgin Whittaker vows his defense will be ready for league's #1 ranked rush attack

http://assets.espn.go.com/photo/2008/1231/nfl_i_parcells_576.jpg
Whittaker looks on at practice this week.

This week has certainly been a busy one for The Honolulu Wave defense. So far this season this defense has failed to live up to expectations and has been abysmal against the run. Defensive coordinator Elgin Whittaker seems to have had enough and has taken into his own hands to ensure that his defense isn't embarrassed again this week against New Orleans. On paper it would appear a match up made in heaven for the Nightmare who are lead by the league's top running back Tank Jackson, but Whittaker insists his defense will show up and that they will be up to the challenge. After their week 3 loss Whittaker locked himself and the Wave defense in the teams high altitude practice facility on Honolulu Mountain and they have yet to emerge. "No more fun and games. It's a privilege to play here in Hawaii and some of these guys just got caught up in it, but we're back on track now and ready to go," said Whittaker in an interview earlier this week. Linebacker Scott Carr and defensive end Drake McDonald have been the lone bright spots on defense for the Wave so far this year. This week coach Whittaker publicly criticized defensive tackle Evan Howard and outside linebacker Ian Well's work ethic, so look for a big performance out of those two.

How are things looking down there Erin?

I spoke with Fulgrim Chemos as he came back on the field. He did not look happy. He looked about as intense as I've seen him.

"There's no way we should be losing. We got pushed back on that first drive, but that won't happen again. There's no excuse for that. I played like garbage that first half, but this half will be completely different."

Post-Game Interview with Memphis Head Coach Dax Bellavia
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1OMiSrEJXnY/RdTX2oefFvI/AAAAAAAABCU/iiViJMtoCq0/s320/cowher.jpg

First off, as I do, I'm going to announce who is getting the game ball this week. For this game the game balls goes to the defense. They played awesome as usual and every player was great out there. I couldn't be prouder of my guys.

Now, onto your questions.

Coach, describe the win for us?

It feels great. Chicago is another great team and they kept us on our toes today. We had to do everything we could to keep them out of the endzone. Their kicker is absolutely something. That kid has a cannon for a leg.

How is quarterback William Bennett doing?

He's going to be ok. He got the wind knocked out of him. We kept him out of the game since we didn't want to expose him to any unnecessary contact when all we needed to do is take a couple of knees to kill the clock. The trainers are taking care of him and he'll need a couple days of rest and he'll be good as new.

Earlier it was announced that you had put cornerback Orion Johnson on the market. Have you been in contact with any teams concerning a possible trade?

We have not. We plan to be active this week. We have been scouting some players that we would like to pursue. We like our team now but we could use some additional weapons on offense.

What are your thoughts on next weeks game against Las Vegas?

Vegas, baby, Vegas! You're so money and you don't even know it.

Thanks for your time, guys.

An Interview with Memphis Showboats DC A.C. Anderson

Memphis Daily News: A.C., how does it feel to be the coach of the DCFL's top defense?

A.C. Anderson: It feels good. Coming into the season, a lot of people had doubts that I could coach at this level of football after only a few years of college coaching. I'd like to thank Coach Bellavia for taking a chance on a young coach and giving me the opportunity to prove that I belong here.

MDN: There were a lot of critics who felt your unique 3-3-5 defense was destined for failure. What do you say about that?

A.C. Anderson: It's only natural for people to question something that's unusual. I have had extensive experience playing in and coaching the 3-3-5 defense in college and felt I could make it work in the DCFL. I mean, this is a league that is filled with dynamic WRs and passing attacks. It's only natural that you'd want to gameplan around that.

MDN: Who would you say has been the most integral part of your defense so far?

A.C. Anderson: I'd have to say Fulgrim Chemos. The only real fault with the 3-3-5 defense is the lack of a specialized pass rush but Chemos has made up for that with excellent play at DE. He certainly has made things a lot easier for our secondary.

MDN: What do you have to say about the rumors that you might move on to a head coaching position in the offseason?

A.C. Anderson: There's no truth to that rumor at the moment. I'm still fighting to prove that I belong here as a DC. To expect that I could be a HC right now is far off base.

MDN: Thanks for your time coach.

Post game interview with Normand Jackson

What's in your perception of the season thus far?

At 3-1, we're looking pretty good. Of course it's not as good as 4-0, but we learned a few things from our loss against Pittsburgh that first week. If anything that kind of knocked the cob webs loose and helped us get our heads on straight.

How are you adjusting to this 3-3-5 defense?

I think we're all adjusting pretty well. I saw it a bit in college, we called it the "Mustang". I like being able to control the middle; I like being able to own that part of the field. Are there some things coach and I are still working on? Sure, improving my flow to the ball during pass plays and coverage is still something he's having me work on.

Does Memphis really have the best defense in the league?

Yeah we do! Have you seen how Chemos and T.K.O. and Baby have been playing lately? It's awesome being part of that every week.

Are you looking forward to next week's game?

You bet I am. Dwayne Wright was a tough knot in college so it's going to be interesting to lock horns with him again. I think I've been in the weight room a little more then he has since then so, I think I may have the edge on him now [laughs]. But seriously, I can't wait to hand out a few "slobber-knockers" if they think they are gonna run up the middle on us next week.

Normand, thanks for the time. Good luck next week.

Thanks guys, see yall next week.

TROJAN'S OFFENSIVE PERFORMER OF THE WEEK

Week 1

Hawaii Wave: QB Michael Vick- 28/37 - 305 yards - 2 TD - 0 INT (2 carries - 7 yards - 1 TD)

Vick opened up the DCFL season on fire and helped Hawaii narrowly defeat Las Vegas 23-22 with a nice 4th quarter drive to set up his team for the game winning FG.

Week 2

Omaha Kangaroos: WR/RB Leopold Carmichael- 7 rec, 71 yds, 5 rushes, 114 yds, 3 ret, 94 yds- 2 Total TDs

Carmichael did anything and everything he wanted to the Chicago Pandas. There was just no answer for him as he piled up 279 total yards and 2 total touchdowns. He helped Omaha easily defeat the Pandas 34-23. The score makes it look closer then what it really was.

Week 3

Omaha Kangaroos: WR Julio Stone - 9 catches - 214 yards - 4 TD

This was the easiest week to choose as Julio Stone was simply untouchable. He was too fast, too big and too smooth for the defense. Las Vegas had no answer for him and if you ask him- there is no answer to stopping him

Coach Sampson hardens up for home stretch

For Coach Sampson of the Sacramento Attack, this day was like no other. "Just because we are going to be at home for a good stint is no reason for us to rest on our back-sides." The Attack will be in front of their home crowd at Warrior Stadium until week 8 except for a visit to Wyoming in week 5. "You get some of these guys who take a little bit of a mental vacation when they hang around home for too long and our job is to make sure that doesn't equate to a lack of effort or intensity", stated Attack's Defensive Coordinator, Raheem Morrison. Morrison was seen working primarily with his line-backer corps during the day.

Members of the Attack loosen-up prior to an afternoon practice.

Sampson split the majority of his time during today's practice between passing drills with his starting QB, Scott Wright; continuing to refine his short, precise passing style and conditioning drills with the second team offense. "The old man brings it every day and he expects you to do the same." stated back-up QB, J.T. O'Mulligan. B.B. Stykes, the #3 receiver in the Attack's arsenal echoed that sentiment. "There's no such thing as a play off around here - I mean, it just don't happen."Sampson has admitted previously that he has full intentions of being tough on conditioning early in the season. "Their time is going to come, later on in the season when they are in there with the game on the line, they'll appreciate what they went through now."

Decker poses at the unveiling

Indianapolis Raptors star safety Demond Decker believes in giving back to his community, and he wants to help the sick children of Indianapolis knock out their illnesses the same way he knocks out his opponents on the football field. That's why Decker announced today that he'd donated the money for the construction of a new wing at Peyton Manning Children's Hospital. When asked what prompted such an act of generosity, Decker said, "I just wanted to help the children of Indianapolis, and I figured what better way to do that than to help them stay healthy? I know the importance of good health, and I think that it's something every child should have". Construction of the wing was completed July 25th, and it is scheduled to go into full operation by August 15th.

Omaha Not Giving Up Any Home-Field Advantage

With Jackalopes head coach Chet Taylor recently declaring that this weeks upcoming away game against Omaha will be nearly as good as a home game, Omaha has responded by releasing some season ticket sale numbers.

The Omaha Kangaroos stadium has a capacity of 80, 000 and recent ticket sale numbers reveal that 70, 000 season passes have already been sold to the people of Omaha. This equates to approximately 1/5 people in central Omaha and demonstrates resounding support for the home team.

"Omaha has really got behind us this year. The year started out tough, but after the people of Omaha saw the players we brought into the organisation, tickets sold like hot cakes. They reacted particularly strongly to the best wide receiver in the DCFL, and possibly the best overall player Julio Stone. The kid has it all. He's controversial, but he is the face of our franchise and the very definition of a winner."

Memphis Commercial Appeal | Tyson Owens, others arrested at Bar Fight

Tyson Owens mugshot after being arrested Saturday night in downtown Memphis

Memphis, TN -- Memphis Showboats standout safety, Tyson Owens, was arrested Saturday night after an alleged bar fight broke out between the group Owens was with and another group of people. From there, the bar fight was said to have broken out into the streets where Owens was seen throwing fists at many of the opposing bar patrons. Owens has not been reached for a statement but we anticipate one soon. One eye witness account stated:

"Well this other group was provoking Owens' crew all night and then it finally blew up. I couldn't really tell you who started it but I do know it was not Owens."

For Owen's sake, He'd better hope this league isn't ran with the same stern hand the NFL is or else he could be up for a suspension. More news on the matter later to come.

Roman David Sanchez on the bench with Anger Killstone with the spot

New Orleans, LA-- You can sense the importance of this upcoming game for the Nightmares as they face Hawaii as soon as you walk into their weight room. A usually rowdy scene with loud music with louder shouting and joking going back and forth was not what was witnessed today. The loud music and heavy breathing were the only things audible. It seems the Nightmares understand the significance of falling to 1-3 and are preparing accordingly. The power running attack and the non-stop pass rush anchor New Orleans offense and defense, respectively, and it looks like the norm will continue. Arguably the most physical team in the league due to the fact that they bring it on both sides of the ball- their plan is to wear teams down. The fact that the first 3 games haven't gone as planned will not change their team philosophy. We expect this game to be close but for New Orleans to dominate physically with the Wave unable to respond. We have this game going 20-10 in favor of New Orleans

A post game chat with QB Devin Saint
by Indianapolis Star Reporter Brent Davis

Brent Davis: So Devin, what's it like having had three straight chances to try and win the game at the end for your team?

Devin Saint: It's fun. Clearly I wish we could have won the second game but we managed to answer back with a nice win against a good team.

Davis: Do you look at this as your break out game into the league?

Saint: Not really. I just think the whole offense was playing up to our potential and when that happens we can really score some points. Our running game was really opening up the passing lanes too.

Davis: Do you think you can maintain this level of play in all your games?

Saint: Well there are a lot of good defenses in the league so that might be tough, but we have the offense to consistently put up points like this every week. It's just about staying consistent. If we put up a good effort offensively I'm always confident that our defense will come through and get us a win.

Davis: You seemed to air the ball out a bit more against the Pandas. Do you feel confident throwing the ball deeper now as opposed to just staying with the underneath routes?

Saint: I always feel like I can go deep with the ball. We run the west coast offense and so that dictates shorter throws which I have no problem with. Hopefully as my arm strength improves and my overall ability improves I'll have a chance to throw down field more.

Davis:Thanks for the time once again, Devin.

Saint: No problem, Brent.

Statement From Memphis Head Coach Dax Bellavia Following Kase-Owens Suspension
http://yinzluvsteelers.squarespace.com/storage/bill-cowher1.jpg

"We are extremely disappointed and upset with Tyson Kase-Owens behavior off the field and stand behind the commissioner's ruling. His behavior was uncalled for. It was completely ridiculous what he did. We thought higher of TKO and hope he learns from his mistake. This will be the last time he makes such a mistake. The Showboats organization gives one pass for bad behavior. Everybody makes one mistake but you need to learn from it and move on. If he proves he can't learn from his mistakes then he will no longer be a part of this organization. This is not the kind of press the Showboats organization wants and it's not one we deserve. TKO knew that when he was drafted by us.
We have a meeting planned with him later as coach Anderson and myself are going to discuss what he did, how it started, his thoughts on the situation, and if he feels he can learn from it. After that we will go from there. For his sake and ours, I hope he can move forward."

Sacramento rolls "Snake eyes" against visiting Las Vegas

After going through their first three weeks unscathed, Sacramento met up with their first loss of the season. "The game was pretty much handed to them in the first half, Id'd say. After that we settled down and did much better but that first half was just too much to overcome on that particular day.", was the explanation from Head Coach Ralph Sampson. Las Vegas jumped out to an early lead with Dwayne Wright and Sam Slowinski TD's within the first six minutes. A field goal and another Dwayne Wright TD took the score to 24 - 0 before Sacramento scored a field goal of their own with just over 2 minutes to play in the first half. "There were some sloppy plays, some calls we didn't like to much, some great plays by the other team, but all in all it just wasn't our day out there."

Head Coach Chuck Sampson speaks to reporters after their first loss of the season to the Las Vegas Outlaws

After a second field goal in the 3rd quarter, Outlaws RB, Marcus Fenikz, returned kick off 102 yards; A league record. Sacramento would see Scott wright add a TD pass to WR T.J. Sunstein only to see Dwayne Wright score his 3rd TD of the day on an inside run to seal the deal in the 4th quarter.
"Trading punches all day long is one thing, but we gave up far too many long plays. Those types of plays will demoralize you and we just cant afford to play like that." Sampson added. "The one bright spot to all this is that they showed us quite a bit in regards to their defensive sets and coverage schemes. Maybe too much. We didn't give away nearly as much as they did in that aspect so, we'll take this loss early in the season and I think when we see each other later on down the road, we'll see a big difference on the scoreboard." Sacramento travels to Wyoming for week 5.

Despite the beating he took this past week, Darius Bain, an interior linebacker for the Sacramento Attack, was all smiles yesterday as he held a press conference at one of the local Boys and Girls Club to announce his newest charitable endeavor; one that involves handing out beatings. Bain is the mastermind behind the "Hits That Help" campaign, and unveiled it as he took photos and signed autographs to the delight to all the young children that attended.

"I just wanted to give back to the community, and I figured the best way to do it was by doing something I like. Hitting people," said Bain. "For every tackle that I make this season, I plan on donating 100 dollars to the Boys and Girls Club." Now a hundred dollars may not seem like a lot, but after only 4 games this season, Bain has 33 tackles, which amounts to 3300 dollars. And that number should keep on growing.

"The Boys and Girls Club was a big part of my life growing up," commented Bain as he took played with the children. "My mother had to raise me on her own, so my brothers and I would hang out here to stay out of trouble and have fun while she worked. I feel like now is my chance to give back to an organization that helped me." Also at the event was Assistant Coach Raheem Morrison, along with several other members of the Attack.

"I convinced Coach Morrison to donate as well, although I'm worried he might pull me from games if my numbers get too high," laughed Bain. "I'm trying to convince some of the other guys as well to see if they'll pitch in too. They were nice enough to show up today though and spend some time with the kids here, so I have to thank them for that. But that's what we do, help each other out because we are a team. It's a good lesson for the kids to see."

Bain also commented on the Attack's first, and quite painful, loss of the season. "Yeah, it was frustrating. We thought we came in prepared after a good week of practice and a good gameplan from Coach Sampson and Coach Morris, but we just didn't perform. We let up too many big plays. Now we have to go back and watch more film and work even harder for next week. That's really all we can do."

When asked about the penalty he took near the end of the game, Bain commented, "Yeah, Wright came up jawing at me, talking trash, and I told him to shut it. He kept going and I reacted. It was a stupid penalty to take and I apologized to the guys afterwards, but man, do I hate trash talking. Drives me crazy. Coach Morris gave me an earful after the game, so I defintely have to keep my cool better and not let that happen again. One thing I promise though, when I see Wright the next time, you know I'm gonna put the hurt on him. You know, for the kids."

Fulgrim Chemos Talks TKO Suspension, Las Vegas

With the suspension of Tyson Kase Owens, the Showboats will be missing one of their best defenders against on of the leagues most powerful offenses. Fulgrim Chemos is aware of this. So he's working as hard as he ever has for this game.

"Tyson is a great player, and we're going to miss him. I'm disappointed in him. But that doesn't change what we need to do. Everyone else needs to come together and work even harder to make plays out there. I think we can stop them. And I've been working harder than ever this week."

"I talked to Kase about the incident. He feels really bad about letting the team down. But you know, he explained what happened, and to be honest, I see where he was coming from. I'll let the facts come out on their own, but I'll just say that I support my teammate right now."

At the practice facility this week, Chemos has had the look of the man from week 2. He's had teammates out after practice for extra reps. He knows this week is going to be a huge challenge.

"They have a great line. Bearington is a beast. But no matter what, we have a reputation, and I'm not going to let Las Vegas make people doubt us."

"Normand has been a real leader this week, just like every other week. That guy is fantastic. He's such a leader. There's a reason he's the captain of this defense. We feel like no one should be able to move the ball on us, no matter who's in there. Other guys have to step up."

From the tempo at the practice facility this week, this game should be a great one.

Media: What do you think that you or the team did differently from last week to this?

SM: Nothing, my men only know how to play one way, sometimes things go your way sometimes they don't

Media: How would you describe the play of your running backs they combined for 231 yards rushing 2 TD, 7 catches, 85 yards receiving and a TD, and to top it all off Marcus Fenikz returned a kick off for a TD

SM: We have 2 very special players they know their roles and execute them perfectly, lets us not forget our amazing O-line which allows them to do such things.

Media: While Funk Master James Rockefeller hasn't been piling up passing records by any means are you happy with his consistent play?

SM: Of course, he knows what he has to do and he does it well, he has a great football IQ and manages the games well.

Media: Are the lack of sacks a concern for you yet?

SM: Nope, why we don't have more I could never tell you but men are a force in the backfield and have dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball play after play. Thank you for your questions.

For Turner, strength is found in scripture as well as weight-room

"I didn't even know there was a book of Joel.", laughed Tackle, Fred Hampton. "At first, I really thought it was a joke." It wasn't a joke. When ILB Ike Turner had the sign made to be put above his name plate on his locker, he knew exactly what he was doing. The sign simply reads "Joel 2:11". Turner knew people would see it, wonder and eventually ask. The scripture in question reminds Turner that strength is found in following God's commands. "I really couldn't imagine my life with out him [Christ] in it. People think of football players as these big strong athletes, but there is a strength I have because of him greater then you can imagine."

The sign worked. Within the few days of training camp, numerous players asked about the sign. It gave him the perfect opportunity to witness to them and share his faith; which he has no problem doing. In fact, during the off-season, Turner links up with Team IMPACT, a traveling ministry made up of former athletes who use their physical abilities as a means of sharing the Gospel.

http://thechristianmanifesto.files.wordpress.com/2008/01/team-impact.jpg
during the off-season, Turner tours with the faith-based motivational group "Team IMPACT."

Ever since college at Wake Forest, Ike Turner has been that "religious kid" on the team. You'll get no complaints from him though."I keep two books in my locker. The Bible and the play-book", he laughs as he beams from ear to ear. "That's all I need really."
Some may find it ironic that Turner, an obscure player on a team as talent laden as the Attack, would choose such an obscure passage to serve as his touch-stone for such an important message. His teammates know different.
"He may be overlooked on the field, but when you need someone just to talk to, to share things with and, you know, just pray; everyone on this team knows they can look to him, and to his leadership in that."

A post game chat, with QB Devin Saint.
by Indianapolis Star reporter Brent Davis

Brent Davis: So Devin, what's it like having your first winning streak?

Devin Saint: It's exciting. I've always been a big believer in momentum in terms of sports, and if we can gather some as a team I think we could really put together a few good wins.

Davis: You've really been doing a nice job leading the team offensively, have you started to adjust to the league?

Saint: I think I'm starting to make adjustments from the college game. At the same time you have to be vigilant as a player and be sure you don't become too stagnant as the defense is always making adjustments to you as a player.

Davis: Do you think the offense needs you to play well in order to be effective?

Saint: Honestly, I don't think so. Ernie [Cobourne] has really played great lately. I would say my improvement in numbers probably correlates to him really playing great just as much as anything. He's been awesome.

Davis: I hope I'm not jinxing you, but it's pretty amazing you haven't thrown an interception yet. What do you contribute that to?

Saint: Luck.

Davis: Luck?

Saint: Yeah, I think it's been more luck than anything else. There have been plenty of chances for me to have been picked off but I've been lucky the other team hasn't capitalized yet. I'm certain it will happen sooner rather than later, but my goal is just to limit the number of turnovers I create.

Davis: What do you think it will take to continue this offenses recent success?

Saint: I think it'll take a team effort of making sure we don't get full of ourselves and continuing to study game tape, review the playbook and make sure we execute on gameday.

Davis: Once again, thank you for the time, Devin.

Saint: No problem!

Attack's center suffers ankle injury

It would seem that Sacramento can't catch a break as of late. Perhaps that is good for the team's Center, Ray Miavia, who only caught a high ankle sprain during today's practice. "I knew as soon as "Stumpy" [OLB - Brian Stumpf } fell on it, I was gonna be out for awhile. I felt the burn right away. when that happens you know it aint good." Coach Raheem Morrison explained that on a play that sent the OLB on an inside blitz, Stumpf fell when blocked and landed on the lower leg of Miavia. Stumpf was unavailable for comment but had expressed deep concern for his teammate prior to leaving the practice facility.

Sacramento Attack's Ray Miavia sets outside of trainers complex at thei team's training facility.

"He'll probably be out for 3 or so weeks. We're hoping for a quick recovery and we'll factor in the trainer's prognosis, schedule and Ray's feeling on the matter to decide if he needs to be out longer or not." commented Head Coach Chuck Sampson. When asked about replacing Miava in the lineup, Sampson said Randall Crash will fill in at Center or perhaps allow Guard Cromwell Thigpen to play center and have Jeremy Potts play Guard for a short stint. "We'll see how the rest of this week's practices go and decide who fits best and where they fit. Ray will certainly be here at the training facility for the rest of week, doing what he can." Miava, age 30, graduated from the University of Hawaii and is President of the DCFL Players Association.

It's business as usual Crucial

Two days ago they lost their first game, yesterday they lost their starting center. Today, Robert crucial is making sure he doesn't lose his edge. "This is my office. This is where I come to work each day." pants Crucial as he moves from one piece of equipment to another. Crucial, age 30, knows the importance of staying fit. "Man, at my age I have to take advantage of every moment, every chance to stay competitive. If not, somebody else who is more focused comes in here at -whoop, there goes my spot. I'm not letting that happen. It's TCOB [take care of buisness] time." Crucial not only engages in physical workouts planned and assessed by trainers, but a strict diet set up by nutritionists who are on the Sacramento Attacks's training staff.

Sacramento's weight training facility which also features a water workout swimming pool, BOD POD body composition lab, cafeteria and chiropractic care facility.

After a rigorous physical workout in the weight training room, Crucial ends his time at the facility with a swim or in a steam room. "Some guys take ice baths or see the docs for some treatment, but unless I'm reallying hurting, I'll just do a few laps and the POOL!", Crucial screams out as he dives in before emerging with a smile. "We have 10 more games to go - now is no time to let your guard down and get in a situation where you are playing like garbage because you let up on your workouts." To date, Crucial has acquired 378 rushing yards and 3 total touchdowns this season.

Bodybuilding.com - Part 2 Interview with TJ Sunstein

When does your season conditioning actually begin?
Two months before the season I start to get really serious and then elevate the intensity of the program every week until it's time to report to camp. From then until the season is over, it never stops.

Do you give yourself time off the grind of training in the off-season?
I have to. The season is exhausting that I need a month or two of down time before I get back to intense training. But, I have to stay in shape in that time as well so I work out about 3 times a week. Nothing hard, though. Just to keep my body fresh.

How important is your rest and downtime?
It's more important for me mentally than it is physically. Your body needs to recover but it helps your mind if you take some down time and gather yourself. I'm more motivated to work after down time and have a positive attitude towards the work that needs to be put in.

What type of supplements help assist you with your training and recovery?
I've been approached about several supplements over the years but the only one I can rely on completely is protein. I always love a good protein shake after a workout. I've never taken anything other than protein or even creatine since I began working out way back when.

How important is the way you eat, drink and rest, to your life as a professional athlete, and what would happen if you neglected these areas?
I stay away from bad food choices as much as I can but I spoil myself every now and then. I only drink water, Gatorade, and skim milk. I stay away from soda and have since my sophomore year at Oklahoma State. Rest is probably my favorite. I try to go to bed around 10 during the season and be up by 5:30. The offseason is a bit different but a sleeping routine is the hardest to manipulate. I'm still working on getting mine perfect.

What will TJ Sunstein be doing 10 years from today?
Hopefully looking back at a long and successful career and enjoying a caribbean island with my family. I want to be able to spend time with my kids when that time comes.

Post Game Interview with Chet Taylor

http://www.llumina.com/store/chet.jpg

Coach, what are your thoughts on being 2-2 at this point in the season?

Obviously, .500 wasn't the goal, but I'm very happy with the way the team has bounced back. These last two games the team has played much better, and I expect us to continue improving. I like our chances through the rest of the season.

Headed into the game the big story was Omaha's passing game against your secondary. Were you happy with the way that played out?

The secondary played great. Azi and Dan each came up with a pick, and to hold Stone and Williams under 100 each and keep them out of the endzone was nice. We allowed Carmichael to do too much, but looking at it overall, you have to be pleased.

How did you feel the offense performed?

They did enough to get the win, and it was another solid performance from the unit. However, I'm still waiting for them to breakout. We haven't had that big offensive game that I'd like to see and I know they're capable of. We have to keep working in that area and get things clicking.

What did you think of the situation with Ray Tyson and Adolf Klux?

I have no tolerance for behavior like that on the football field. Adolf Klux's reaction was disgusting, and there's no place in this league for players like Klux. Between causing a fight and some of the words that came out of his mouth, I'd like to see some sort of punishment come down from the league office.

What's the word on Free Safety Melvin Callahan?

Well, he has a separated shoulder and it looks like he'll end up missing a fair amount of time. I felt that Virgil [Phrankert] played well in relief and I think he should be fine filling in. He's a veteran guy who knows what he's doing out there, so I'm not concerned about him starting. Hopefully, we'll be able to get Melvin back out there in a few weeks.

Sacramento is coming off their first loss the season. Do you have any comments on your week 5 matchup?

I have a lot of respect for coach Chuck Sampson, and the Attack are a very solid overall team. That said, our guys are going to come ready to play and I think we can build on our last two games with another win.

Klux sues Ejecting Referee

http://traditionofexcellence.files.wordpress.com/2008/01/carey-mike.jpg
Caption: Referee Malcolm Xavier Johnson during the Omaha / Wyoming match last week.

OMAHA, Nebraska, DCFL star OLB Adolf Klux has filed papers to sue head referee Malcolm Johnson for racial discrimination. According to Klux's lawyer, "Our case is simple, why was Klux ejected from the game? Was it because he fought? No, because, Ray Tyson the instigator of the altercation was still allowed to stay on the field. Was it the words he used? No, that word is used by African American players on the field all the time. Also there is no rule in the DCFL rule book prohibiting any type of speech. So, we can only assume that the speech was punished because Mr. Klux is a white male and that sir is a violation of my client's rights. When asked if Klux would also be suing the league according to Klux's representation, "We think it would be premature to sue the league when no action has yet to be handed down by the commissioner's office. Klux added "A simple public apology from either Johnson or the referee's union would easily put this matter to rest." No court date has been scheduled at this time.

Jackson arrives early, ready to lay down the law

Memphis Showboats defensive Captain, Normand Jackson, arrived in Las Vegas a day early in order to travel and visit his L.A. home plus hold a special work out at his alma mater, USC. "It was great coming back for a day and visiting with Coach Carroll and Coach Norton and a few of the guys." In regards to what advice he had for those USC prospects about to enter the world of professional football Normand said "Pick the DCFL over the NFL."

http://grfx.cstv.com/schools/usc/blog/0401cush.jpg

Jackson also commented on the Owens suspension. "T.K.O. and I go back all the the way to to here in college. I'm in his corner. It's sad that people can be so judgmental of celebrities or people in the spot light. We have our boundaries too and when they are crossed - you have to do what you have to do." Jackson was excited, to say the least, about the upcoming game against Las Vegas. A usually calm Jackson became rather animated when discussing his out-look on the match-up "This is going to be a great game. Lots of hitting. I hope Dwayne [Wright] and Marcus [Fenikz] are ready to get hit. I'm ready for what ever they think they can throw my way. I really think they got lucky against Sacramento. They won't be that lucky against us." Thus far, Jackson, nick-named "No-No", has 47 tackles, 9 for a loss, on the season.

Logan Stevens speaks about week 4 win
http://img.mediaspanonline.com/5163/3840226.jpg

Reporter: After a disappointing 0 and 2 start how does it feel to be back to .500 now?
Logan: It feels great. The team has really responded these last two games and I feel like we're starting to come together and things are clicking. Hopefully we can continue this way.

Reporter:How does it help having a veteran presence like Herman Walter Plainview in the dressing room?
Logan:Herman's great. You know he's been around forever and when some of the young guys were distraught when we were down 0-2 at the start of the season he just remained calm and composed and other guys saw that and it helped us a lot. Guys really look up to him. He's a great leader on and off the field and if it weren't for him I don't think we'd be in this situation right now.

Reporter: Is there a rivalry between Omaha and Wyoming?
Logan: Well it is a small league so I think there's a rivalry between almost every team, but for sure it's a little bigger between Wyoming and Omaha because of the geographical proximity. It's fun to be apart of a rivalry like this ad it's great for the fans.

Reporter: What are your thoughts on the altercation between Ray Tyson and Adolf Klux?
Logan:Well Adolf's a great player no doubt, but there's no room for that stuff in our game. Ray handled it properly and I'm glad the league decided to take action on the matter.

Reporter: Thank you Logan and good luck next week.
Logan: Thank you.

Wave DC Elgin Whittaker enraged after week 4 loss
http://blog.nola.com/times-picayune/2007/12/large_Miles.jpg

Legend has it that Honolulu Wave defensive coordinator Elgin Whittaker could be heard from all the way out in the parking lot reaming out his defense following a week 4 loss at the hands of New Orleans. In his post game press conference it was clear he was unhappy and his emotions boiled over when asked about what he will do to get his defense to improve against the run. "I've done everything in my power and then some to help them. It's up to them now. They need to put in the time on the field in practice and in the film room to better themselves. I can only do so much. If you want to win YOU'VE GOT TO STOP THE RUN, END OF STORY!" Whittaker who is usually calm and collected has clearly had enough. He also stated during the press conference that if his defense doesn't show up in week 5 that jobs could be lost and that major changes would follow. Now no one knows exactly what this means, but one thing is for sure and that's that this is not a good thing for Wave players. Whittaker locked himself in the film room over night following the loss and emerged with the sun just in time to lead his defense on a 12 mile run up the mountainside before their morning practice.

Wave quietly shopping for help against the run?
It has been rumoured that the league's worst run defense is seeking help. The Wave have apparently expressed interest in acquiring a big run stuffing DT to help them with their struggles. Everyone is on the block except for LB Scott Carr and DE Drake McDonald. The team is looking to shake things up after another embarrassing loss and dismal performance vs. the run.

Emerging from the shadows any time soon? This writer thinks so...
By Pete Prisco

http://images.cbssports.com/images/author/3708.jpg

Despite a solid start to these season, 2nd round pick Bunj Torres has not made nearly the impact that had been promised of him, people go so far as to say he is a bust and even "The Vernon Gholston of the DCFL", I'm here to set the record straight.

People have wondered why Torres has not defended himself, and I too have wondered, so I travelled to Sacramento myself to get the inside scoop, simply in his own words, Torres says "I don't have much time for the media, I need to work my butt off to make an impact for the guys in that locker room". At which point Torres wandered off to the gym, inviting me to tag along to get an insight into this reclusive character.

http://www.throwthembows.com/files/images/cain-velasquez.jpg

Following Torres into the gym, I was astounded by what I saw, the workout was incredible and explained why Torres has flashed extreme athleticism, if not yet the production.

His workout:

Caveman training (five five-minute rounds)
Round 1
Elliptical — two minutes
Sprint — 30 seconds
Upper-body ergometer — two minutes
Sprint — 30 seconds
Rest one minute
Round 2 (each station one minute)
Tire flips
Sledgehammers
Rope climb
Tire flips
Rope climbs
Rest one minute
Round 3 (each station one minute)
Bear crawls
Plyo pushups
Plyo jumps
Medicine ball throws
Recline pull-ups
Rest one minute
Round 4
Same as round 1
Rest one minute
Round 5
Same as round 2
Rest one minute

Makes you tired reading it doesn't it?

Well that's not all, after completing this, Torres showered, came back and said "Come on Pete, time to join study hall". I followed Torres back to a meeting room where he met up with fellow Attack players Scott Wright, TJ Sunstein and Leonard Spocklestein who held their own film session, the offensive guys and defensive guys working together to broaden their horizons and get a new perspective on what the coaches had pointed out. Said Torres: "Oh man the film sessions are great, Scott Wright is so good at explaining the protection schemes, which gaps I should hit, any twitches or stances I can key on to get a better burst, the QB's cadence... he's fantastic and TJ, oh man, he could be an OC now I swear it. Similarly Leonard is a smart dude, he's coaching me up mentally and helping me out, I feel myself getting better every day next to him".

So will all this translate onto the field? I have no reason to doubt it, Torres does have 2 TFL's to his name, so he can get into the backfield, surely the sacks will come soon, in fact, I will go so far as to say I will take a week hiatus from writing should Torres not get a sack this week.

Pete Prisco.

Julio Stone Post Game

Reporter: So Julio,

Julio Stone: Sorry guys, but I'm livid right now. I will not be taking questions, but I will issue a statement. I just gotta say, Azi is not man enough to roll with me. He's trash talking to me on the field, and saying how happy he is to not give up a TD to me on Twitter, but I'm not having that. Azi is not man enough to come down and get face to face with me. He won't come down to my territory. And he is crazy if he thinks he held me to no TDs. That's purely on the coaching staff. I mean, let's go baby. I scored 4 goddamn times last week and you get me 6 catches? Unacceptable. Have I not proved at many stages in my career that coverage is not an issue? That's a bad job by Coach. How many times did I outjump three, four guys in Vegas?

Leo's a good friend and teammate, but let's get real. How is that man seeing 20 or so touches and I'm getting 6 as the best player in the league? That's not how it should work.

And I'm calling out the refs too. Your job ain't that hard yo. Get it right. I clearly got that ball, and they still gave Kwame the pick. I mean, I've got to do my thing with people all over me, don't help them out by trying to keep me down now.

Azi Kwame Press Conference the day after Wyoming's win over Omaha

Reporter: Azi, what do you make of Julio Stone's comments?
AK: I was definitely expecting that, he would rather put the blame on his coaching staff than on himself, or God forbid give some credit to the opponent.

Reporter: What is your take on the situation?
AK: My job is to shut down my opponent. He's a fantastic player but I'm not 100% satisfied with my performance unless I completely shut him down, he still had 6 catches...

Reporter: Why do you think he is so adamant in blaming his coaching staff?
AK: He's a prima donna, he'll scapegoat anyone to make himself look good. He looks at a lack of passes thrown his way as if that's the coaches, when maybe their QB didn't feel comfortable throwing it to him with me covering him. If they knew they could get him the ball, they would have. I'll leave it at that.

Reporter: He mentioned something about you trash talking with him on the field...
AK: I'm not a cocky player, but when I'm in the heat of battle I'm not gonna act like a scared little boy. While I am man enough to say he's an amazingly talented player, I'm confident enough in my abilities to not be intimidated by him.

Reporter: What about the interception?
AK: I thought it was pretty clear I got it, he fought hard for it but with the help of Dan (Baker) I was able to secure it. Him blaming the refs is just another example of him blaming someone other than himself.

Reporter: OK enough about Stone, what are your thoughts on the team headed into week 5?
AK: Pretty good, we clearly have made a lot of improvement since the first 2 weeks, I'm very confident we will continue to impress.

Reporter: Thanks Azi.
AK: Thanks guys.

Julio Stone Talks About Recent Events

Julio Stone talked to a group of reporters after practice.

Reporter 1: Julio, do you really believe that Omaha would suspend or fine you?

JS: I've got no control over what they do. If they deem it fit to fine or suspend their best player over what he says in the media, that's on them. As I'm sure you'd all agree, it would be detrimental to the team, but if that's what they wanna do, go for it.

Reporter 1 (follow up): So you have no interest in retracting your statements about the gameplan after the game?

JS: Listen. I said those comments, therefore I meant them. Julio's not in the business of backtracking because someone doesn't particularly like what is said. And you in the media have overblown what I meant about Leo. It's not a knock on him as a player in the least. I just think it'd be smarter to have Julio Stone be the main focus of a gameplan.

Reporter 2: Azi Kwame recently knocked you in a recent press confrence, saying that you are always looking to put the blame on others, don't give credit where it is due, called you a prima donna, among other things. Do you have a response?

JS: Haha, I think it's funny that he went on a little tirade about me just because he thinks he's a tough guy because he tried to trash talk on the field and gloated around all happy that he didn't give up a TD to me. I just put him back in his place really. Listen now. If I'm at fault, I'll take blame for it. Ya'll know that. If I don't run a route perfectly, or drop a pass, I'll be the first one getting on myself.

But I'll pose a question to him. Who should Julio place the blame on for not being utilized enough? I don't want to here him say it's because of his coverage that I didn't get the ball. It's been proven many times before that coverage isn't really an issue when talking about me. Take a look at that Vegas game tape. Sometimes as many as 4 defenders, and that ain't no thing for me. Crail knows when to get me the ball and when not to, but it ain't easy when I'm not even the primary focus in the gameplan.

Secondly, my man you couldn't cover me 1 on 1. You had to have extra help just like every other god damn corner in this league. So how's about you give the credit you are taking to others as well, ya dig? I'm out.

Chemos Ready For Las Vegas

If there's a more intense. more driven player than Fulgrim Chemos in the DCFL, he's tough to find.

Chemos has continued the intense training he began before week 2, and has even ramped it up with the suspension of Tyson "TKO" Owens.

"We're without a great player this week, so the rest of us have to make plays. I'm just getting ready to do that."

Chemos has been doing even more film study that usual this week in preparation, and believes he's found a weakness in the outstanding offensive line of Las Vegas.

"Obviously I'm not going to say anything, but I guess you'll be able to tell if I'm right or not."

All signs point to an epic week 5 battle.

The Most Dangerous Man In The DCFL
Roman David Sanchez

New Orleans, LA- Four games into the season and it's already clear who has dominated the defensive side of the ball more then anyone else. Second round pick Roman David Sanchez has made every QB take a double-look, made every RB hesitate and every OL feel like he was stuck in mud. We got the luxery to talk to the superstar in making. This is what he had to say:

PFW: Thank for taking the time to talk to us, Roman. We know you're a busy man.
RDS: Not a problem. I appreciate the interest.

PFW: Roman, during the draft- it was rumored that you were a lil upset you went in the 2nd round. A little bit of a chip on shoulder syndrome followed?
RDS: Definitely. I understand that a 2nd rounder is still pretty high so it's more then that. I was the LAST pick of the 2nd round and I there were guys picked over me that play the same position. Obviously some teams thought that I wasn't the top guy at my position and I disagree. I'd like to add that I love New Orleans and believe strongly in what we're doing here so I am also glad that I picked where I did. I don't know. It's weird *laugh*

PFW: I understand. You lead the league in sacks, a league leader in takles for loss, forced fumbles and QB hurries. What can't you do?
RDS: Haha, I can't fly. As good as my stats may look- I wouldn't of been able to do anything without my teammates. DC, Rawlings and that scheme. It just works to my strengths. I'm just trying to add what I can for the team 'cause that's what it's all about. The team. We're 2-2 with the best running offense in the league. That's why I love being apart of the Nightmares 'cause that's what we are- A nightmare to opponents. We will be the most physical opponent anyone faces and I love that kind of football.

PFW: Can't argue with that. Which team are you dying to play against?
RDS: The next one on the schedule. Ask me next week and I'll give you the same answer.

PFW: You sacked your old teammate Michael Vick twice last week. How was that? You guys exchange words?
RDS: Yea, I told him I missed him. Then told him- "See, I told I missed you alot" on the second one. Haha.

PFW: Well, we appreciate your time Roman. Good look this week.
RDS: Thanks guys.

Pre-Game Interview with Head Coach Gary Foster

Coach Foster, what do you feel you can improve on this week to beat New Orleans tonight?
Well, we're definitely going to have to stop the run. That's the main focus. They've had a lot of success running behind Jabroni James and Anger Killstone this season, so our primary focus is going to be taking that away from them. If we can do that, then our focus will be to force them to pass, where we feel we can force mistakes and capitalize on turnovers. Offensively, we just need to keep doing what we've been doing. We have a great QB who's hot and hasn't turned the ball over to date, so we may try to put more of the focus on him tonight.

Special Teams has been a problem for you most of the season, do you feel you've corrected that at all?
I think we have. Putting Demond Decker in as a gunner really helped us last week, we only gave up good field position once, and we're hoping that trend continues. Provided we can keep our special teams performance in check, I feel we have one of the best all around teams in the league.

What do you feel is the key to success for the Raptors tonight, coach?
The keys to success tonight are the same as they are every week: Win the turnover battle, get their offense off the field, and keep our offense on the field. If we can do those three things this week, we'll win. If not, we'll lose.

Do you have any concerns going up against the top rushing offense in the league?
Well, obviously this game will be a tad more physical, grind-it-out style than your typical DCFL game, but we feel our defensive line is by far the best in the league, our front 7 is right up there, and Demond Decker is probably the best run stuffing safety in the DCFL, so we feel we can weather the storm of the Nightmare rushing attack.

One last question before the game starts, coach: Do you think the Raptors win tonight?
I certainly hope so. I'm not in the business of making predictions, I'll leave that up to you guys, but I feel we prepared well all week, and we're ready to face the Nightmare. We'll see if that's the case over the next 60 minutes of football.

Pregame rituals in Sacramento's locker room are the only nail-bitter planned this week.

They called Wade Boggs of the MLB fame, the "chicken man" because of his pregame ritual to eat chicken before every game. Brian Urlacher of the Chicago Bears, eats two chocolate chip cookies and Alexander Ovechkin of the NHL's Washington Capitols, well, let's just say he is a happy hockey player. These subtle and even sometimes crazy rituals have come to define some players. The list of pregame rituals that belong to the players of the Sacramento Attack is no less weird and absolutely crazy.

- QB Scott Wright must have his left-side tapped before his right side.

- FB Darnell Webster has worn his favorite duck-hunting, wool socks under his uniform to every game going back to High school.

- WR Tony Taylor bites his nails and washes his hands three separate times.

- DT John Blutarsky talks to his facemask.

- OLB Brian Stumpf eats ketchup flavored potato chips.

- Starting FS Kyle Carpenter and SS Vernon Wurmer read MAD Magazine.

FB Darnell Webster shows off his lucky pair of socks

"This is the oddest group I've ever had" laughs Coach Sampson. "It makes me feel right at home." This is the comment from the coach who ritualistically drinks root-beer floats the night before the game and a can of root-beer before the game. "Athletes are a superstitious group to begin with and this group is no different", he adds as he drinks his frosty can of A&W root-beer as he looks over his game-notes in his office one last time before heading out to the field.

Coach Bellavia Locks Media Out After Loss

Reporters were not allowed to enter the locker room following the Showboats frustrating loss. This reporter could hear loud shouting and sounds of destruction from behind the closed door. Most of the media in attendance agreed that it sounded like Memphis DE Fulgrim Chemos. No word yet on what may have happened, but it will be something to keep an eye on in the coming days.

Coach, what happened with the offense out there? You were able to move the ball but couldn't come up big when it counted...

Do you think I wasn't on the sideline? I saw every damn thing that happened out there. Yeah, we could move against them. We made stupid mistakes and it cost us. I'm not going to comment on that b.s. holding penalty but that cost us the game right there.

How do you think Tyson Kase-Owens could have affected the game?

Was he on the field? Did Tyson even play today? No. I don't want to talk to about it.

How do you come back from such a frustrating loss like that?

We work our asses off and get better. Next question.

Memphis has been very vocal in their quest to move CB Orion Johnson. Are there any new involvements regarding a potential trade?

Son, where did you go to journalism school? How in the hell did that affect the game today? Next.

Why are you so upset, Coach?

What do you care? If you would have lost after a 3 game winning streak you would be upset too. Next question.

No more question? Then I'm done here.

Post Game Interview With Roman David Sanchez

Q: Wow, Roman- That was a great game you guys played. You had 2 sacks, a forced fumble and deflected a key pass that lead to the win. How do you feel?
A: I feel great. It wasn't just me though- The offense did a great job of controlling the clock and keeping Saint and them off the field. So when they came out- they looked rusty and never got into a groove. DC, AJ, Nintendo- everyone had a great game. This was definitely a team effort tonight.

Q: You guys continue to be one of the most physical, if not the MOST physical team in the league. Both offensively and defensively- is this something that is worked on or something that just happened?
A: Gotta give management credit. They wanted physical and they put together a good group of guys who play that way naturally so while it's emphasized- it really doesn't need to be. We are what we are. Prepare for a battle when we come around.

Q: Thanks Roman and good luck next week.
A: Thanks. Hopefully the result'll be the same.

Coach Foster Irate After Raptors 12-10 Loss

Cocah Gary Foster was not a happy person after tonight's crushing loss. He came into the press conference looking very angry, had very little to say, and left after only a couple of questions. He said that he was very disappointed that his kicker who'd never missed a game winning kick prior to today couldn't pull off another game winner to get the Raptors alone atop the Eastern Conference of the DCFL, and that he was shocked and appalled at the poor play of his defensive line, saying "All [New Orleans] do[es] is run the ball. We put 3 people in Jabroni James's gap all night and we were very focused on stopping the run all week in practice. Obviously the execution wasn't there because we couldn't keep enough points off the board for our offense to win the game for us. We'll have the defensive line working extra hard on execution and technique this week". Coach Foster also expressed regret that a few small mistakes have led to the Raptors being 3rd in the conference, taking blame and saying that with a little better effort from himself, the Raptors could be undefeated and soundly atop the DCFL standings right now. From the sound of it, the Raptors are in for a long week of practice.

Caleb Westgarth Talks About the Indy-New Orleans Game

"Right now, there's not much I want to talk about. We should have won that game. They kept running at us all night long and we couldn't stop them often enough. We need to follow through on our gameplan more often so we don't suffer more losses like these. Our defense was not at the top of our game today. I certainly didn't put up my best performance, and a lot of other guys didn't either. We can't afford to lose more close games like this one. We're going to be going over a lot of things during practice this week. Everybody will be seeing a much better, tougher, and meaner defense from Indianapolis next game."

with Anger Killstone

Mike Wilbon: Former Green Beret and current DCFL fullback Anger Killstone has been a wrecking ball for the New Orleans Nightmare this season. Anger, thanks for joining us today, How does it feel to be out of the military playing pro ball?

Anger Killstone: It feels funny sometimes, it's definitely a lot more laid back, but there is still plenty of regiment to it, so it wasn't a night and day change.

Tony Kornheiser: Anger, who's is in better shape, the average SF soldier or the average DCFL player?

AK: Well, first of all there is no such thing as an average SF soldier or an average DCFL player. The only way to become either is to be exceptional, but I would say that there is no real comparison. We train to do different things, in the Special Forces we train to go up mountains with 120 pound load outs, endurance is really the focus, in the DCFL we all focus more on explosiveness and core strength.

TK: Has that mental and physical toughness carried over to your game? Our you a different player than you were in college?

AK: Absolutely, the stuff that you go through in selection and on deployments changes you mind, body, and soul. I feel like I'm much tougher, I have more wind and better endurance, I'm more confident in pressure situations, and I'm not intimidated by anyone. In college when we played bigger schools, my eyes got a little wide, but now nobody is going to get in my head.

MW: A lot of analysts and even some coaches across the DCFL have criticized your offense for being so one dimensional, how do you respond to that?

AK: Well, I guess it is what it is. You know we're going to run on you, if you can stop us, you're probably going to win. As an offensive unit, we don't feel like we can be stopped. Our mindset is that we're going to get our yards and we're going to set the pace of the game.

TK: The core players on your team seem to have a pretty good relationship, what do you do as a team that keeps your unit so cohesive?

AK: Most of it's just that we genuinely like and respect one and other. We all have stuff in common and we all hang out and are in touch off the field. Jabroni is a MMA guy, he loves that stuff, and so do I. We get together every now and then and I show him some stuff that I learned in the Special Forces and he teaching me some boxing, he's a great boxer. David and I are both from Wisconsin. I work out with RDS and Dominik a lot, they are both freaks in the weight room, we all push each other a lot. We're just a tight unit, on and off the field.

TK: What kinds of stuff have you been showing Jabroni?

AK: I picked up some stuff in my travels. I learned some Krav Maga in Israel, some Sambo in Russia, I have a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, I was a certified instructor in the Army Combatives program, and I wrestled some in college too. We both enjoy it, we learn a lot from each other.

MW: That's all the time we have Anger, thanks for joining us and best of luck next week in Las Vegas

AK: Thanks guys

Post Game Interview With Sacramento Coach Chuck Sampson

http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2007/07/24/sports/24acc.1.600.jpg

Coach what are your thoughts about today's game?

Well, were pleased with it. I will say that despite the score, that was not how we drew up the battle plan. In all honesty we played a sloppy game at times and got somewhat lucky at others. Logan Stevens should have not scored that TD. We should have been ready for that. Robert should have scored a few times but just couldn't get a few things going, Scott recovering the fumble and scoring, the keeper play in the 3rd; there were several things that just went our way this week and we'll have nothing resembling an easy practice set this week.

Why choose to show the trick play at this point in the season?

This next week, 9 other coaches are going to devote extra time to special teams and take away from offense and defense practice time. That can only serve to help us out in the long run. The more time they have to devote to ST and the more they worry when we go out to punt, the better off we are.

How is Ray Maivia?

Ray will be out about another 3 weeks. He was on the sidelines as you all saw, helping out with the line and motivating the team the whole game. At this stage in his career, when he is on the sidelines, it's like having an extra coach, so he was involved in the win just not active on the field. Randy did a great job filling in. We had him working with Scott all week and Randy has worked all season with J.T. [O'Mulligan] so he was ready and not rusty in anyway.

What can we expect next week?

Chicago is a tough team... a solid and balanced team with some real threats, so as usual we will be planning to neutralize those threats and take advantage of what we can. That's all for now folks, Thank you.

Coach, what's the status of DE Fulgrim Chemos after he was taken to the hospital?

Fulgrim is recovering nicely. He's recuperating well and is in good spirits. He had just pushed himself too far and didn't hydrate like he should have. He was released from the hospital earlier today and is at home resting.

What's his status for next week's game at Wyoming?

Fulgrim is going to play but there is a condition. He can study game film until his heart's content but no physical activity. He will be limited to non-contact drills Friday and will be participate in the walk-through Saturday morning. That is it. He will not participate in any physical team activities at all until the game. I felt this was fair considering his competitive spirit which won't let him sit out of the game. However, I did tell him that if he's showing any signs of fatigue or dehydration during the game that he's getting pulled and is going to sit for at least a quarter. I will make my decision whether or not he goes back into the game based on what the trainers tell me.

Coach, what can you tell us about playing Wyoming?

Their a fine team and a great organization. I know their coach from way back, however, both teams are desperate for a win and to be honest, we need it more. We have to come out of Wyoming with a W. It is very important for us to do so.

Alright, guys, that's it for now. My staff and I need to go over some film and prepare for the game. Thank you.

Tough loss equals long practice week for Sacramento.

After what Coach Chuck Sampson called a "sloppy" win in week 5, Sacramento was edged out 22-20 in week 6. "Obviously if the game is close enough to be won or lost by a field goal, we haven't executed well enough during the rest of the game." iterated the man whos plan had resulted in the best record in the league prior to the loss to Chicago. During the matchup, Panda's Kicker, Ike Stantios, kicked 5 field goals to include the game winner despite a game plan to put plenty of pressure on him. "It just amazes me that we plan to get to him at least once and he kicks 5, to include that 57 yarder. That really shocks me. I guess you live and die by the sword.", Sampson no doubt making reference to his own punter, Horace Crosby, who scored a touchdown on a keeper play the week prior.

http://media.scout.com/Media/Image/46/465684.jpg

Attack players engage in a "nutcracker" style drill.

"Right now we have to step up our game and deliver on the field." commented OLB, Brian "Stumpy" Stumpf. "It doesn't matter if they score 5 TD's or won by scoring 5 FG's; a loss is a loss." "With the personel we have on both sides of the ball, we shouldn't be in these nail-biter situations. We should be outscoring teams by 3 to 4 TD's per game" noted Defensive Coordinator, Raheem Morrison. "We have a few specific items that we are working on for Indy. I hate to lose but the fact of the matter is we learn something every time we do, so we'll have our standard full week of physical practices and be ready on Sunday.", finished Sampson. Sacramento is set to host the Raptors in week 7.

Every Willich Way Including Loose

Memphis running back Marcellus Willich has found his initiation into the DCFL more difficult than he imagined. As a highly-touted running back coming out of UCLA, Willich bullied the competition his senior year. However, a break-out game has eluded him thus far in his young career. "That's going to change" he says. "I'm out there trying to prove myself. Not just in the game but in practice. I've got it in me to become a focal point of the offense." One can only hope that his words proved prophetic as Memphis, who has one of league's best defenses, has struggled to put points on the board. Led by QB William Bennett the Memphis offense is averaging just slightly over 10 points a game which is putting a ton of pressure on a defense, no matter how great they may be.

http://www.bestsportsphotos.com/images/t_23595_07.jpg

Willich is embracing the challenge of trying to help the Showboats get their offense on track. His workouts increase each week and he is working with former NFL great running back Marcus Allen, which Willich says has helped his vision and patience as a runner. If Memphis is to stay on top of the Eastern Division and hopefully move on to the DCFL Championship then they are going to need a big effort from the little guy from UCLA.

When the Attack drafted T.J. Sunstein out of Oklahoma State, only they could have expected this return value. Taken after wide receivers Johnson Johnson (26th overall) and Julio Stone (3rd overall), Sunstein has been performing like a first rounder. Going into Week 5 game against Wyoming, Sunstein led all in receiving yards and just two off the pace for receptions.

“He’s a great weapon to have.” Fellow Sacramento wide receiver Tony Taylor said of the 6’5, 234 pound Sunstein. “He creates match up problems where ever he lines up and that opens the field up for us. He’s a great teammate to have around in the locker room and on the field because you know what you’re going to get from him. You’re going to get his best at all times.”

Tyson Owens, back to work

The Memphis Times | by Tito Maas

http://www3.pictures.gi.zimbio.com/Atlanta+Falcons+Minicamp+Ll8GN39cFR3l.jpg

The energy and spirit of Tyson Owens is now back at the Memphis Showboat practice facilities. The swagger and unique style is running rampant making plays.

"I like to bring a type of energy to the field that is unseen. Most of the time when guys are coming off suspensions, they're a little bashful to do anything but, my boys let me know that they got my back and I have nothing to worry about." said an excited Owens.

He spent most of the day hanging out with the defensive coordinator, AC Anderson, going over the gameplan even adding in his own input from time to time. "He's something else I tell ya, he's like having a coach out there on the field and with that comes reliability and respect." says Anderson.

This week, the Showboats square off against the Wyoming Jackalopes in what is making to be an entertaining game. "They're probably the best team we'll face all year. They're balanced on both sides of the ball, they have elite level players in all the right places and this should be a good game. It's all gonna matter if he we come out with high energy and start taking heads off from the get go." said Owens.

Owens energy level was apparent when he sent back-up RB, Lionel Washington's helmet rolling for ten yards from a potential sweep play. "After that, everyone started playing.. that's the way it's gotta be. If I gotta do that to get everyone's spirits up.. I'll do it ALLLL NIGHT when we roll into Wyoming!".

Peefington Breaks His Media Silence

-Butch lets start with your reaction to the loss to Las Vegas.

Ya, that was a tough game. We were riding a nice winning streak, this would have been a big win for us. Guys have been getting after each other in practice all week, were steamed. Losing isn't something tolerated here.

-Your thoughts on the Week 5 suspension of Tyson Kase-Owens?

Of course he would have helped with the overall defensive effort. That isn't my concern though, I needed to step up in his absence. There was a hole in our secondary and I didn't fill it. Extremely disappointed in my performance but I look to take this frustration out on some Jackalopes.

-Explain your knack for getting after kicks?

Well it isn't just random or a stroke of luck that ive managed to block a few kicks. Im already a tall guy and can get up a bit, but its all about timing and instinct. I know Luigi has had a tough time kicking this year, I often stay after practice with the special teams unit often providing a rush on kicks. I think its helped both Luigi and myself boost our games.

-Any reasoning for your lack of big plays defensively this year?

Its in part due to the defense we play. Im often all alone covering for everyone down field, with our SS roving. I like to think this assists our aggressive defense letting other guys go after people and make plays. Don't worry though, offenses are going to be forced to start heaving it down field more on us and I'll be waiting.

Stone Talks About Recent Games

Julio Stone was in good spirits today, talking and joking around with teammates and reporters. "I told you all that every week with me was going to be a show. I've done nothing but deliver. Julio ain't no liar." The entire Omaha team seems to be feeding off not only the amazing performances Stone has put up, but the positive energy he's bringing to the team. "Things are all good here. We've had a couple little bumps here and there, but winning changes things. Ain't no reason to be angry." After saying this he then joked about handing his touchdown ball to his Coach. "Yeah, I just held it behind my back and then told him I've got a present to give him. He tries to stay strict, but he just had to chuckle at that." Things are going great in Omaha at the moment. Just keep Julio happy coach.

Post-Game Interview With Chicago Pandas CB Elvis Jackson

http://cache.deadspin.com/assets/resources/2008/02/gusjohnsonhi.jpg
http://www.fabianianddeno.com/imgs/endorsements/moore.jpg

Gus Johnson:Hi, I am Gus Johnson and here is Elvis Jackson of the Chicago Pandas joining me after the win. He haven't heard of you in a long time. What have you been doing?

Elvis Jackson: Well I am still trying to get a grasp on everything. After losing some games, I really blamed me for not learning enough and I kept on checking out the film and I didn't want to get into a Interview until we are at least .500

Gus Johnson: You are tied for most turnovers in the league and you have the most Defensive TDs in the league. How do you feel about?

Elvis Jackson: I feels good, but then again, I'd rather lead the league in Wins than anything else. Personal accolades. Just seeing how I gave up another TD to TJ Sunstein tells me that I have to improve a lot more.

Gus Johnson: You made an incredible play, maybe giving you guys the chance to win by tipping away that ball. How did you get up so high? I mean Sunstein is the tallest WR in the league.

Elvis Jackson: I don't really know to be honest. I just saw the ball coming my way, so high. I didn't want to give it up. I knew Sunstein could have gotten it. I just jumped as high as I could. Didn't really think a lot, just let my instincts control me for a second.

Gus Johnson: You guys are on 2 game winning streak. What do you guys need to do to continue?

Elvis Jackson: We need to continue to execute the gameplans the coaches give us. They have some great gameplans and therefore we just need to trust them and execute.

Gus Johnson: What player is standing out for you in the last few games, that you really depend on?

Elvis Jackson: There are 3 guys that are equally as important in my opinion. James Speed is our offensive weapon and really doing a lot on offense. I mean he was really great in every game so far. He and Mutler have a great connection. Smithsonian on the other hand reminds me of Kreutz a lot. He is a natural loud leader, although we really pick on him a lot for having no soul. These damn gingers. Anyways, the last unheralded hero on our team would be the kicker Ike Stantios. He is doing so much for the team and although he likes to party a lot, we can always trust in him making a FG. He is a great kicker and he keeps on winning us those games that are on the line. Just look at the Toronto game and there kicker. If it was Stantios, they would've won.

Gus Johnson: Thank you for your time. I hope you can improve to a winning record.

Elvis Jackson: No problem, and thank you for your wishes.

Post Game Interview with Tyson Owens

http://www.druidcityonline.com/HomeGames2007/04%20Georgia%20pics-audio/070922%20Georgia-castille.jpg

How did you feel about this win and your overall performance?

"I'm just happy that I didn't lost a step from losing that week of play. I'm happy we won the game and I was able to have a good game as well."

What challenged you most about this past game?

"Um.. Trying to read Herman Plainview's eyes and reads. He disguises what he's doing so well but I think we got the hang of it as the game went on."

Will the Showboats be rolling on after this win?

"Definitely.. These types of games are what make or break seasons. They make or break seasons for teams and players. You got a guy who just comes off a suspension and plays like that? That's a confidence booster for everyone."

What are looking to work on this upcoming week. Omaha has a pretty good WR in Julio Stone.

"He's the best in the league at that position. But we still gotta do us. We still gotta play our game before we worry about what he's doing. If I could guarantee you one thing.. If they want him to play for the rest of the season they won't run routes coming towards me. Write it down.. Take a picture.. I said it TKO Mutha-****-a!"

Tyson Owens fight tape is knockout on Youtube

by Jerry Collins

Youtube, the worlds most popular collection of videos has deemed the "Tyson Owens Fight Video" as the most viewed video in three years. "Surprisingly, it passed up Tay Zonday's chocolate rain for most viewed videos." said Chad Hurley, CEO of youtube.

For those of you out of the loop, the video features the reason why Owens was suspended for week 5. It clearly shows (via cross-the-street security camera) Owens and his crew being harassed by some bar patrons that night and the issue escalating into thrown fists. Owens will be sent a certificate and plaque for the video.

"I'm honored. I'm hoping my highlight tape from this year will outshine that, but we'll see." said Owens.

Memphis Word of the Season: Defense!

Memphis Herald | Johnny Wilkinson

http://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-falcons-blog/files/2009/05/lofton-huddle.jpg
The defense in the huddle has been the highlight of the league's top team, the Memphis Showboats

Defense wins championships. For Memphis' sake, they better hope this saying is true. "Great championship teams are characterized by the defense they play. Steelers, '85 Bears, '00 Ravens.. All of them were characterized by their defense." A.C. Anderson says. From practice to gameday, the highlights and plays that cause the most awe are coming from the guys that don't give up plays and highlights. Although the offense is making huge strides towards balancing out the output on Sundays, one cannot help but see that the defense sets the tone for this team.

"We're all on the same team but that line of scrimmage causes somewhat of a rift for that play and that series. That line of scrimmage makes me think that the only people I can trust on that play, for this series.. are the guys that I'm standing side to side with." says Tyson Owens. He went on, "I grew up with Normand, so to speak, I've known most of these guys since college days. I feel like this defense is a brotherhood and that together, with help from the offense, we can bring home a championship for the city of Memphis."

This defense is performing top notch not allowing more than three touchdowns in any game. Rightly so, seeing that the in the first couple rounds of the first annual DCFL draft were spent on defensive players. "They knew what they were doing when they were drafting us. They wanted to put the right players in the positions that fit. They needed options and it worked out for them in the end." said Owens. Owens has said to be like a additional coach out there often calling audibles to fit what he sees on the other side of the field. Not to mention, he's in the running to be crowned as the best defensive back this season.

One thing is for sure, if Memphis wants to win a championship.. They're gonna do riding on the back of this defense.

DCFL Star Adolf Klux Joins Bill O'Reilly On the O'Reilly Factor to Discuss Current Pending Civil Case.

Bill: So, Adolf, for all the folks that doesn't know what is this lawsuit all about?

Adolf: Well, Bill, I am suing head referee Malcolm Johnson for $75,000 for ejecting me from the week 5 game against the Jackalopes.

Bill: Isn't this just a petty way for you to get back at a referee for a call that didn't go your way?

Adolf: No, Bill, I have been discriminated on because of my race.

Bill: Now what, exactly were you ejected for?

Adolf: Well the ref claimed I was ejected because of fighting.

Bill: and???

Adolf: Bill, you're a big guy you must have been in at least one fight and there is one thing that all fights have in common.

Bill: What's that?

Adolf: You need two people to fight.

Bill: Has the ACLU taken up your cause?

Adolf: No they havn't taken up my cause.

Bill: That is because the ACLU only champions for the minority and the secular and goes against judgment based faith and won't take causes of reverse discrimination.

Adolf: Well ...

Bill: So why only the official? Why not have a suit against the league.

Adolf: The league didn't discriminate against me the league rules state that if you are ejected from a game you must pay a league fine. Ray Tyson was not ejected so he had to pay no such fine.

Bill: Adolf you are a rich man you have a multi-million dollar contract what is this one game check really mean to you.

Adolf: It isn't the money it is the principal. We in the DCFL can not have a set of rules for the "trouble player" and not have the same rules for the rest of the players in the league.

Bill: Well good luck on that and thanks for being on the show.

Bill: Up next communist Obama death panels and who they plan on killing grandma and all disabled people.

Decker vows Raptors will Improve

Demond Decker was not happy after the Raptors' 3rd consecutive loss, which has taken the Raptors from 3-1 and competing for the DCFL Eastern Conference lead to 3-4 and looking for answers. Decker refused to take questions, and had this to say: "These past few weeks, we've let everyone involved with this organization down. Our fans, each other, the coaches, the owners, we've not performed up to the expectations of anyone over the past few games. I, for one, am sick of losing, and I feel everyone involved in this organization, especially our fans, deserves better than a team with a losing record, which is why I promise all of our fans that I will work harder than I ever have in my life to improve and help our team get better, and I challenge all of my teammates to do the same. I feel that if my teammates take this challenge, we will be able to deliver to the fans of the Raptors what they deserve: a DCFL Championship". Raptors fans are certainly hoping that Decker's words ring true, as some around the league are beginning to call this team an underachieving bunch that's capable of so much more. Perhaps this is exactly the wake up call the Raptors needed to play to their potential.

All Business At New Orleans Practice

New Orleans, LA- The mood here at the Nightmare practice facility is that there is no more room for error. Midway through the season and they are one game under 500. That after being 3-2 and having a share of the division lead, as far as record goes, just two weeks ago. The Nightmare's biggest opponent this year seems to be themselves- having trouble staying consistant. The offense is as consistant as can be. The two-headed monster of Tank and Anger make up the most dynamic rushing attack in the league. The defense is lead by Coleman and Sanchez along with a group of hard work indivisuals who on paper can match up against any team. The problem has been the consistancy of this group. They've given up over 20 points in 3 out of the 7 games. They do a good job over 90% of the game but tend to give up big playes all at the wrong time. (Not that there is a right time to give one up). Maybe a lack of concentration? A feeling of cockiness after dominating the beginning of games? We asked the leader of the Nightmare defense Roman David Sanchez what he thought was the problem.
"It's our focus. You can tell that it dips at times in the game. This team is built to run and play great D. We know what we are and we know what we have to do to win games. The Offense is as consistant as it gets. It rushes for over 200 yards and puts up 2 touchdowns. With that being said- it makes it easy for the D to know what we have to do to win this game. Don't allow more then two touchdowns at a max. Ideally you want to give up none but that's not always the case. We're working hard, practicing harder and you'll see the results on game day. Guaranteed."
That's as focused as I've ever seen Sanchez and I can't wait for gameday now.

After a long bout of media silence, DE Drake McDonald breaks it and gives us a interview. Following a excellent performance to give Honolulu a win, it's apparent Drake is in a good mood.

Interviewer: Mr. McDonald, long time no see! How are you doing?

Drake: OH man, I'm doing pretty good. Sorry for the wait I've been working my tail off and trying to focus on the game.

I: Makes sense. Speaking of working hard you had a great game against Chicago, what do you attribute that to?

D: My natural talent and desire to win. I've been real frustrated lately with out losses but I'm glad to see our boys pull together and get a nice win.

I: How has your off the field behavior been?

D: Same as always. I'm not going to tone it down cause someone got suspended. I live my life, if someone has a problem with it that's up to them.

I: I see. Currently you do not lead the league in sacks and Honolulu does not have the best record. Do you regret the comments you made?

D: No way. I know we can still pull the rest of the schedule together and get a winning record. As for myself, a few more games like last and I will be leading the league.

I: Well that's all the questions for now, don't be a stranger!

D: Haha you got it, thanks.

Coleman Contacts Jesse Jackson

Categories: Nightmare,

Just after being arrested after allegedly driving under the influence, New Orleans Nightmare defensive end Domenik Coleman has contacted civil rights leader, Jesse Jackson.

In a retracted twitter statement, Coleman remarked, "I didn't do it. Them white boys framed me."

Coleman appears to be sticking by this as he moves to fight the charges brought against us.

Coleman was a 3rd round pick by the Nightmare in the DCFL draft, and has been an impact player on the defensive side of the ball.

Stay tuned as we learn more on this developing story.

Q: How does it feel to be a hero?

AK: Hero? Somebody who happens to see a burning car with somebody in it and doesn't stop, isn't a hero there just a descent human being. All I did what what any of you would have done. That's all I really have to say about it. She's ok, and I'm very happy about that.

Q: What do you have to say about Dominik Coleman's recent arrest?

AK: Dominik and I have had our differences, but he's a good guy. I'm behind him. I'll do whatever I can to support him and get him through this.

Q: Were you injured at all in the fire this morning?

AK: No, not a big deal. I got a small cut and a burn on my arm. 'Tis merely a flesh wound, as they say on Monty Python.

Q: What do you think that New Orleans' playoff chances?

AK: Playoffs? Playoffs?...no I'm just kidding, we're struggling, we really are. We've got to finish strong, and if we do enough to get into the post season....let's just say, we need to win the rest of our games and the rest will take care of itself, one way or the other. We'll take care of what we have control of.

Q: Did you expect to get so many carries in the DCFL?

AK: Not at all, I wasn't even sure I was going to be on offese so, yah...it's been a pleasant surprise. Running behind this line is a privilege though. It's pretty hard to screw up carrying the ball on this team. I'm proud of what we've been able to do in the running game, and happy that I've been able to contribute in more than just blocking.

Domenik Coleman Press Release

I am truly saddened by the events that took place two days ago, and apologize to my team for the distraction. I know and appreciate that I have my teammates and coaches' support as I go through this difficult time. The accusations against me are 100% false, and I expect to fight them, and any league discipline, to the fullest extent. In the meantime, I will continue to play football and do everything I can to help the New Orleans Nightmare win a championship. Any media inquiries can be directed at Jesse Jackson or the Reverend Al Sharpton, who have been kind enough to agree to help me during this time.

Categories: Nightmare,

Just 24 hours after we reported that New Orleans Nightmare star, Domenik Coleman, had contacted Jesse Jackson, we have also learned that Coleman has filed a lawsuit against both the officer who arrested him, and the New Orleans Police Department. The lawsuit lists racial profiling, and physical abuse as reasons.

It has also been learned that Jesse Jackson, as well as the Reverend Al Sharpton, have joined Coleman's team.

Despite the seemingly overwhelming evidence against Coleman, he appears to be putting together a top flight legal team and fighting the charges with incredible must. I personally think it is hopeless, but Coleman can't be convinced of this, evidencing his stupidity.

Domenik Coleman Files Another Lawsuit

No, this isn't a repeat story. Just five minutes after The Times-Picayune published a report on Domenik "Donkey Kong" Coleman filing a lawsuit against the New Orleans Police Department and his fight against DUI and Obstruction of Justice charges, he has filed another. This time the lawsuit is against The Picayune and reporter Kevin Spain.

In fact, the lawsuit is based on the article that was just published. Coleman is suing Spain and The Picayune for slander.

We aren't so sure that he doesn't have reason. In their recent article, Spain and the Picayune called Coleman's case "hopeless" and said "But Coleman can't be convinced of this, evidencing his stupidity." We aren't so sure about the stupid part; after all, Coleman was a Rhodes Scholar.

But in the meantime, we'll keep our mouths shut (hey, we don't wanna get sued) and keep watching The Office (on NBC of course) and making calls on our Sprint Phones.

Coleman Suspended; Appeals
_____________________________________________
Posted by Mike Florio on August 16, 2009 11:130 AM

Domenik Coleman continues to make headlines since being arrested for DUI and Obstruction of Justice.

Just minutes after being suspended by the league for two games, with promises of a one game reduction if he would drop his lawsuit against the New Orleans Police Department, Coleman has appealed his suspension.

Coleman's adviser/publicist, (we aren't quite sure what to call him) Jesse Jackson has issued a statement:

"We feel that the suspension handed down on Domenik by the league is unjust, and are in turn appealing. Not only is Domenik innocent until proven guilty, but there is strong evidence of racial profiling involved. For the commissioner to ask us to drop our lawsuit is absurd, and possibly illegal. Our legal team is currently investigating the legality of the move, and we are inclined to think that it might be extortion. If we determine that it is, the commissioner can expect to get served."

If I was the commissioner, I would be afraid. Very afraid. Coleman's team has proven to be very swift and harsh with their actions, and are not one to be dealt with lightly.

We aren't sure what Coleman's appeal means. In the NFL, a player appealing his suspension is allowed to play until the matter is resolved. The DCFL does not have clear rules on the matter. We will await further league comment before sticking our foots in mouth.

Anger Killstone Press Conference Part 2

Q: Where did your parents come up with the name Anger?

AK: My grand father's names were Angus and Roger...put the two together and you've got Anger.

Q: You're facing the Omaha Kangroos and Julio Stone, how do you think you'll fare against their high octane offense?

AK: I've been begging the coaches to get me in a few snaps on defense, on the off chance that Stone actually runs a route and comes across the middle. I've got something for him. I've been hearing that kid whine about not getting the ball, blame losses on teammates, and now he's going to talk trash about my teammate. My mission this week is to humble him, embarrass him, and most of all beat his team. Hopefully I can get on defense a few snaps, but I know Sanchez will be all over him all day.

Q: Are you suggesting that you guys have some sort of bounty out on Stone?

AK: No, I'm not suggesting anything. Alright, thanks everyone

Bunj Torres - Angry and Ready!

http://www.mmahotstuff.com/.a/6a00d8349f951869e20115709a29e1970b-320wi

It's the start of the English soccer season, normally an event that goes largely unnoticed this side of the pond, but one man in Sacramento is sitting up and taking notice, Bunj Torres, and boy is he angry!

"Man, I need to bring some pride back to Liverpool" said Torres in reference to the soccer teams surprise 2-1 defeat to Tottenham. "Them boys played with no heart, no passion and no desire, it sickened me, that won't be me tonight" Torres continued, looking at the tattoo that reads "YNWA" on his arm, shorthand for You'll Never Walk Alone, the teams motto.

"I spoke to a couple of the boys, told them to turn on, tune in and watch me whoop some ass, I'm angry, and the opposition are gonna feel it", a clearly animated Torres then stormed out the wall, muttering about sacks and pain. I fear for the other teams quarterback.

Reporter:What do you think of your victory today?

Klux: Seriously? Why do reporters ask such stupid questions? If we win then I'm happy if we lose then I'm not. If anyone asks that question again I will just stare at you. For a long time.

Reporter:Why do you think William Bennett ran to your side?

Klux: Well I think that I knocks his senses loose with the first hit. So I don't think he was really thinking about much.

Reporter:Next week you are going up against the New Orleans Nightmare the best running team in the league what do you think your chances are?

Klux: Well, we are going to have some trouble with their three headed monster. But they are going to have trouble with ours. We'll see who comes up on top.

Reporter:Hey the end of the game you heard the crowd can you safely say that Omaha has forgiven the Roos.

Walter Santesso Paparazzo here to do an interview with the WR of the now second place Omaha Kangaroos super star Julio Stone. Julio thanks for being with us.

Julio Stone:Not a problem, always happy to give an interview.

Walter Paparazzo: Julio you are the most talked about athlete in the DCFL. 37 Newspaper articles and 47 Tweets either about Julio Stone or are others talking about Julio Stone. Why are you so feared and respected in this league?

Julio Stone:People love a star. I've been a polarizing figure all my life, and I'm not afraid to say what needs to be said. Add that to the fact that I'm the best player in the game, and yeah, people are going to have something to talk or write about.

Walter PaparazzoJulio, the Kangaroos are tied for first in the west with the Sacramento Attack holding the tie breaker at the moment. To what do you contribute the team's success?

Julio Stone:It's everything man. We were supposed to be an offensive powerhouse, and we struggled early. I let my teammates know right then we can't let that happen, and the media was talking about me being a cancer. Look what it did. We turned it around and we are playing up to our capabilities. Not to mention, our defense is a lot better than given credit for, and I know those guys work hard to try and be just as good as the offense.

Walter Paparazzo:OK Julio lets talk about your most recent league fine based on what some would call shameless and mean portrayal of Derrick Coleman during your touchdown celebrations.

Julio Stone: Was there a question there or...?

Walter Paparazzo: Well, I guess what I would ask is why you went after a player whom either A) is sick and needs help or B) is being singled out by the police.

Julio Stone:Man, that's some ********. He didn't get singled out. Clean and simple, he broke the law and got caught. I've had a rivalry with him, and he's always just been an annoyance in general. I knew he'd be watching, so I decided to come up with a few things for him this week. I know all the fans out there enjoyed it too, and that's what it's about.

Walter Paparazzo: So, I'm guess you don't buy Coleman's story that he is being picked on for being "a rich black man?"

Julio Stone: Haha, do you? I really don't see how anyone can believe that. He's just back pedaling after embarrassing himself and his team looking to take the heat off himself. You know what I'm saying?

Walter Paparazzo: Prior to your current winning streak you and head coach TJ Kenny Dowell had a falling out what is the status between the two of you?

Julio Stone: We are fine. I mean we had a little tiff but he just realizes he needs to let me be. I am what I am, and people love it. And it's always been my rep that if I'm doing what I supposed to be doing, I expect others on my team to be doing the same. We are all working towards that common goal my man. A championship. But yeah, me and Kenny are cool. Just win baby.

Walter Paparazzo: Julio you have a ton of personalities in that locker room. With Bolt, Johnson, and Klux in the same locker room I would bet there has been at least one altercation between two of these guys or one of them and you could you let us and the fans in on it?

Julio Stone: Haha. That locker room's a sacred place man. I can't let you in on that stuff, my teammates would be all over me. But really, Bolt and I have been great friends since we met early in the draft process at the same training place, so there's no problems there. Had one little run in with Klux on Twitter a whiles back, but it wasn't anything at all really. Just saw where each other stood, and we've been fine since ya dig?

Walter PaparazzoThis week you are playing against the Pittsburgh Xplosion what do you think of the Roo's chances against them?

Julio Stone:I think they are real good man. I mean, 2-6 vs 6-2? That's a win we've got to take. We are going to treat them just like a first place team and roll right on through.

Walter Paparazzo:Are you guaranteeing a win?

Julio Stone: I've got to save my my physic powers for the postseason.

Walter Paparazzo:Ha ha, OK, so do you have any TD celebration ready for this week?

Julio Stone:The commish needs to know that I purposely set aside some of my contract money for these celebrations. I'm telling you, these past week's ones were well worth it and I ain't planning on stoppin'. But they go by the Xplosion? Hmm... I've got to think on it.

Walter Paparazzo:Thanks for taking the time to talk with us Julio and good luck against the Xplosion.

Julio Stone:Yeah my man, anytime. Thanks.

Post Week 8 All Pro Projections
With Haydo
http://www.news.com.au/common/imagedata/0,,5662478,00.jpg
G'day everyone. It's that time of year again; you guessed it, Week 8 All-Pro projections! I'll be doing a position-by-position analysis for the offense giving my tips for this years All-Pro team. So sit back, relax and get ready for some exciting DCFL analysis.

Quarterback: There are a few guys I could see making the AP team this year, but there a few that stand out from the bunch. The first is Devin Saint out of Indy. Talk about an efficient passer. Saint has an incredible TD:INT ratio of 4.5:1 and barely ever turns over the pigskin. If efficiency isn't your thing then maybe somebody like Crail Johnson out of Omaha is more to your liking. The kid has a flat out cannon for an arm and has thrown a league leading 22 Touchdowns; 9 more than 2nd place. My third choice would have to be Herman Plainview out of Wyoming. Plainview is a combination of Saint and Johnson, combining TD throwing ability and ball protection.

My Selection: Crail Johnson, Omaha.

Runningback: Probably the most hotly contested position in the DCFL with a large number of quality players. Two guys who definitely warrant consideration for the AP team, and perhaps even MVP status, Tank Jackson from New Orleans and Dwayne Wright out of Las Vegas. To me these guys are the type of players I picture when I think about what a running back should be. They currently rank #1 and #2 in the rushing title picture and look set for a battle for that top position as the season goes on. If hardcore running isn't your thing then a guy like Leopold Carmichael out of Omaha might be your kind of thing. He has posted almost 1200 total yards of offense and is a dynamic force in the return game. Another guy to look for is Pittsburgh's Seth Harris. Harris has excelled on a mediocre team, but will he be able to escape the disaster that is the Xplosion? There is one more guy who I think has an outside chance and that is touchdown vulture Anger Killstone. His lack of yardage however could be a concern.

My Selections: Tank Jackson, New Orleans and Leopold Carmichael, Omaha.

Wide Receiver: Julio Stone. Julio Stone. Julio Stone. The kid is a phenom and is the most obvious selection at any position in the DCFL. Once you get past him however, some tough decisions have to be made. I think the race for the final spot comes down to either James Speed out of Chicago or TJ Sunstein from Sacramento. Sunstein has the edge in receptions and yardage, but Speed has the edge in TD ability. It's a tough choice, but one that has to be made.

My Selections: Julio Stone, Omaha and TJ Sunstein, Sacramento.

Tight End: There are really only two guys who I could see making it this year, but I suppose someone else could step up in the latter half of the season. Eli Wright out of Honolulu has made the best out of a bad season and has turned it on in recent weeks racking up TD's and receptions. The other prominent TE in the DCFL is Logan Stevens out of Wyoming. Stevens is one of the top receivers in the DCFL and has been Wyoming's top offensive threat this season. He is the heart of their offense. Omaha's Jaleel Starks has an outside chance, but with so many other weapons on that offense he might be out of luck this year.

My Selection: Logan Stevens, Wyoming.

Offensive Line: I'm not a huge fan of offensive lineman to be honest, so I'm not going to go to in depth here. At offensive tackle there are three guys I like; Jabroni James, Bradley Barrington and Ray Tyson. On the interior two guards particularly stick out and they are Andy Bleu and David McMurray. As far as centers go Todd Smithsonian and Trevor Andrews both have solid chances of making it.

My Selections: At tackle Jabroni James, New Orleans and Ray Tyson, Wyoming. At guard Andy Bleu, Pittsburgh and David McMurray, New Orleans. And at center Todd Smithsonian, Chicago.

So that just about does it for my offensive predictions. Join me after week 9 for my defensive predictions!

Get To Know The Attack

Part 1 of 2
by Jonathan Bossier
19 August, 2009

In one of our recurring segments, “Get to Know the Attack”, we take a closer look at one of the players of the Sacramento Attack and let you get a better idea of lives these men lead off the field. In today’s segment, we will learn about Sacramento’s heavy-hitter in the middle, inside linebacker Darius Bain. We will take a look at his youth and speak to some of the people who helped mold him into the man he is today.

While he may be a big time DCFL defensive player now, Bain came from humble beginnings. Born in a small town outside of Mobile, Alabama, he was raised along with his two older brothers by his single mother who had to work two jobs just to support her family. Jared and Julius, identical twins, helped look after their younger brother while their mother was working, and the three were almost inseparable. They helped him with his homework, cooked him dinner, and even protected their much smaller (as hard to believe as that may seem) brother from would be bullies. Darius looked up to his older brothers as role modes and tried to emulate them in every way possible. That is how he found football.

Jared and Julius were the stars for their high school football team, with Jared at quarterback and Julius at running back. Idolizing his brothers, Darius tried out for the team as well. His hometown school was very small, so no one who wanted to be on the team was ever turned down, but because of his small stature, Darius never saw the field in his first few years. He still worked hard though, both on and off the field, in the weight room and the film room, to be like his superstar brothers.

“The kid had one hell of a work ethic,” his former high school coach chuckled. “We were afraid he would get hurt though if we put him in for any real game action. A lot of the guys ragged on him for being so small though. He was maybe 5’9”, 165 soaking wet. They called him ‘Tiny’ or ‘Shorty’, at least when his brothers weren’t around. But that put a fire in him for sure. He grew a little his junior year, so we let him play special teams. Hoooooo boy, did he put a hurtin’ on some of those kids.”

It’s hard to imagine the 6’2 255 pound linebacker ever being that small, but he says it made him the player he is today.

“Yeah, it definitely motivated me,” said Bain. “I played my heart out to prove that I could be just as good as everyone else; maybe even as good as my brothers were. Luckily for me, I had a big growth spurt the summer before my senior year. Then I had the speed and size, plus the intensity to go along with it. I had a great senior year as we made it all the way to the state championship game, and ended up getting a scholarship to Grambling where Jared played.”

Next week in part two we will take a look at Bain’s collegiate career at Grambling State University.

Walter Santesso Paparazzo here with the best FB in the league Anger Killstone. Anger thanks for being with us.

Anger Killstone: Absolutely. My pleasure.

Walter Paparazzo:Anger. your contribution to your team doesn't show up on the stat sheet do you feel you are under appreciated by the press?

Anger Killstone: No, not really. If I am, I'm not worried about it. My teammates and my coaches know what kind of player I am and that is what really matters.

Walter Paparazzo: Anger you come from a military background did that experience help you in your career?

Anger Killstone: In my career, in my life everything. It completely changed my perspective on everything. Physically it made me much stronger, and mentally it made me tougher.

Walter Paparazzo: We all know that military men can get rambunctious some times we see Anger Killstone the solid citizen but what is Anger Killstone the party animal like?

Anger Killstone: Ha, I like to have a good time just like anybody else. I don't go out to much any more though, especially since I got back into football, people always want to take a shot at the pro football player. People are always gunning for you, Dominik learned that the hard way I think.

Walter Paparazzo: Reports say you rescued a woman from a burning car recently. That is something out of the comic books. How is she doing now?

Anger Killstone: As far as I know she's doing fine. I don't know, stuff like that happens all the time to me, maybe I am out of a comic book or something. I was in a gas station that got stuck up in North Carolina and I managed to stop the guy. It's just luck I guess, not sure if it's good or bad, but it's luck.

Walter Paparazzo: You knew we were going to get into this but your team mate Dominik Coleman do you believe his claims that the police are out to get him?

Anger Killstone: I wasn't there, and I don't know for sure what happened. But like I said, you can't give anybody any excuse when your in the spot light like we are. If you make a mistake people are going to notice. I really hope that we can pull it all behind us.

Walter Paparazzo: I've heard you back him 100% will it lower your opinion of him if it turns out his BAC was over .08?

Anger Killstone: Well, people make mistakes. But if it turns out his BAC was over .08 that would be disappointing.

Walter Paparazzo: Speaking of Coleman you have really had it out for WR Julio Stone. Its just been getting worse since his performance in the game against you. Other than the obvious what don't you like about Julio Stone?

Anger Killstone: He's everything that's wrong with professional athletes, or the perception of professional athletes. He's the reason that cops want to nail us all, and why fans boo us, and he's why coaches lose their jobs. Guys that put themselves ahead of the team...that's just unacceptable to me

Walter Paparazzo: You even asked to become a part of the defense do you think you let this personal thing with Stone cloud your judgment? I mean you can't honestly think you belong on the defense. In spite of the fact you played it in college?

Anger Killstone: I can hold my own. Obviously college isn't pro ball, but I know that I can make a play here and there. I don't think I could be an every down linebacker as well as fullback. but I wouldn't mind a chance to play a few running downs or something.

Walter Paparazzo: I assume there is no ill will between you and the coach for keeping you out of the defense?

Anger Killstone: Not at all, he probably saved me a fine. He's got to be a big picture guy. I respect that.

Walter Paparazzo: Who is the most difficult person you've had to block so far?

Anger Killstone: Chemos was a load to handle, but honestly this is going to sound corny, but practice against Roman and Dominik is tougher than any game day I've had so far...those guys are so f****** good.

Walter Paparazzo: OK one last question on the lighter side of things. My daughter wanted me to ask you, boxers, briefs, or commando?

Anger Killstone: Ha, you're gonna have to buy me a few drinks for that kind of intel.

Walter Paparazzo:HA HA thanks for talking with us and good luck in your upcoming game.

Anger Killstone: Thanks Walter, take care.

Article from GoWyoGo.com
By Colby Brown, dated November 7, 200'X'

Think about Special Teams for a moment. You just thought about Kickers and Punters and those electrifying Return Specialists who make up ninety-nine percent of the stats. Blooper enthusiasts and die-hard fans will go one small step further and denote Long Snappers and Place Holders.

But you rarely ever think about the remaining players who fill the jobs for blocking and tackling on those units. Why should you? Those are usually manned by players who may have been stars at the lower levels, but weren't good enough to become stars at the higher ones. They are all ages and sizes; late round rookies given little chance, experienced bench players with a fingerhold on their spots, crusty veterans holding on for dear life. It's a profession for the young and there is no shortage of warm bodies to employ off the streets for a glory-deprived job.

In short, a Special Teamer is not a particular position any player in his right mind would consider a worthy goal.

Vinny DeBernardo is a contradiction towards this particular mindset.

Vincent DeBernardo never actively sought such a role in the first place. He was like any other middling High School star before finding he lacked enough of the really big tools to warrant major consideration. This Cheyenne, Wyoming native elected his State College and spent his freshman year trying and mostly failing to impress at the Skill positions. It wasn't until his Sophmore year when he truly found his talent.

Presently a Senior for the Cowboys of Wyoming University, the 5'10 DeBernardo has held a plethora of part-time roles as both a Wide Reciever and Defensive Back, but ultimately he is a leader in Special Teams as both a Gunner and Blocker, a major factor in Wyoming being #1 in the Nation in Return Yardage allowed. Making exceptional use of his elite speed- "Sub 4.3" as he has claimed- and willingness to make violent tackles in the open field, DeBernardo has struck fear into the heart of returners everywhere, including the dynamic ones. At present, Wyoming is currently 7-1 and undefeated in Conference play, the lone loss a close nail-biter against highly ranked Texas University.

This week in particular saw DeBernardo become a complete hero on campus as Wyoming traveled to Utah and struck a mind-boggling upset over the highly favored Utes 12-6, cementing the suddenly insurgent Cowboys as legit contenders to win the Mountain West Conference this year. DeBernardo himself earned six of the points while contributing towards the remaining five in a back and forth defensive struggle.

The game was fairly non-descript halfway through the second quarter with Utah leading 3-0 off a 55 yard field goal. Wyoming had been stymied yet again and attempted a punt. The boot was very good, leading the Utah returner to call for a Fair Catch- perhaps due to DeBernardo knocking him off his feet as soon as he caught a previous punt- and then he stepped aside and let the ball bounce towards the End Zone. What happened next was DeBernardo hurling himself towards the ball, getting to it on the 2-yard line on a phenominal burst of energy and inspiration. The Utes subsequently gave up a Safety once they took posession, swallowed up by a Wyoming defense which has without question lead the way throughout the season.

Things didn't pick up again until the start of the third quarter when Wyoming kicked off to begin the second half. It looked like Utah might put up a decent return on the play, but as it happened DeBernardo blindsided the unfortunate returner, jarring the ball loose. Wyoming recovered at the Utah 27, but could only come up with a Field Goal to make the score 5-3 in favor of Wyoming.

Halfway through the Fourth Quarter, Utah would retake the lead 6-5 on another long field goal. Later, DeBernardo then displayed a rare spark of talent on one of the main units.

As he put it; "Well, we got all the way to our 40 on that drive- Utah was just beating the h*** outta us all day on that end. Coach called in a 3 WR set, and I got put in the slot position. Coach likes putting me in the slot, because I can still cause coverage problems even if I get scrambled in the play diagrams. He also likes me as a downfield blocker if we ever rip a huge gain elsewhere. But back to the play; I was supposed to run a slant option, maybe draw a linebacker or safety off one of our primary recievers, or our backs running a screen play. The ball's snapped, I run the route, I turn my head towards the QB out of frightened habit- turns out I didn't draw any coverage and our QB was so pressured he saw me and threw to me without thinking. I wasn't thrown to all game, which probably was why I wasn't drawing any attention. The ball zips right to me and I somehow manage to get my hands on it in stride, and I'm so focused on that I don't notice their safety streak right at me until we're watching game footage a couple of days later."

When asked, he replied thus; "He was hanging back, playing Centerfield while his secondary mate was busy assisting elsewhere. Anyhow, the ball came towards me and he shot for my body. I think he was playing Headhunter that particular play, trying to score a violent shot which would deprive me of the ball, my helmet, and my senses. Vengeance for what I was doing to them all day, y'know? Turns out he misjudged either the angle or timing and he just zipped past me at full speed while I was still gathering the ball in full stride. I turn upfield and see nobody in front of me, and my instinct overrides my reason at this point because I just RUN."

DeBernardo 'RAN' for a sixty yard touchdown reception, which proved to be the final score of the game. It was his first Touchdown Reception of the season, which he jokes will likely be his last too.

"I'm pretty sure I won't have those kinds of heroics again."

When asked what's next, he replied, "We still gotta topple BYU and TCU before we can even think about claiming the Conference Crown. And you can't forget the Border War either. Then there's a bowl game, probably..."

When asked about his intentions towards playing professionally, he reiterated he planned to enter the DCFL Draft after he graduates, but from there he doesn't know. "Most likely I'll be picked by a team that is weak at reciever or secondary, maybe weak in both areas," he said, offering a small shrug of his shoulders. "I'd like to be drafted by a team strong and deep enough to let me work like I do in College, but that's not likely. Still, I think I'm getting better and better at the skill spots."

Of course, he joked, "And by 'better', I mean I can cover the waterboy. That little b****** was making a monkey of me at practice, I tell you."

Julio Stone Talks Week 10

Reporter 1: Julio, tell us how you feel about the loss?

JS: Obviously I'm disappointed man. I mean it's damn near impossible to win every game, but that don't make it any easier to lose. Especially when you drop two games to the same team in a season. We blew a big game.

Reporter 2: How did you feel about your own performance today?

JS: If I was just looking at my numbers and not the final score, I'd be a happy man because I got to stick it to a team that passed me up in the draft. They are getting all the laughs as of now though, regardless of how well I have done this season.

Reporter 3: What do you attribute this loss to?

JS: Obviously, some guys had some rough days today. I'm not naming names, but you all know them, and those guys know it too. It was a bad day for a couple of guys. And that's gunna happen, but in such an important game like this, you don't want it to happen.

Reporter 4: What were your thoughts on the gameplan this week?

JS: It doesn't matter what I think about it. I've said all along, I'm only concerned on whether it's good enough to get a win or not. It didn't result in a win though, so I can't be singing it's praises now can I?

Reporter 5: You told us on your twitter that you suggested some plays to the coaching staff. Did we get a chance to see any of them?

JS: (shakes head) No.

Reporter 5 Follow Up: How did you go about thinking them up, and why don't you think they were implemented?

JS: Listen, I know how this game works. Julio Stone's been at it for a bit. I've also been on the field vs. Sacramento before. I've seen the tape. I discovered a couple of things I liked and thought might work. I'm not a coach though. Why they weren't put in isn't a question for me.

Reporter 6: Do you think your ideas could have made a difference Julio?

Final Score of 41-20. Couldn't have hurt. That's all I've got for today.

Coach Foster speaks on Sunday's battle for the East

Many people think this week's matchup between the Indianapolis Raptors and the Memphis Showboats could determine the winner of the Eastern Conference of the DCFL. A win for Indianapolis puts the Raptors on even footing with the Showboats and gives them the momentum down the stretch, while a Memphis win would give the Showboats a commanding 2 game lead with the tiebreaker, essentially wrapping up the Eastern Conference with only 3 weeks to play. The Star recently interviewed Raptors Head Coach Gary Foster about the matchup and the Raptors in general, here's what he had to say:

Coach Foster, the Week 2 loss to the Showboats was a showdown that many feel could have gone either way, what do you think you have to do differently to win this week?

Personally, I have to gameplan better. Honestly, the Showboats offense has struggled to move the ball at times, and with the talent we have on defense, we should be able to stop it effectively. As a team, I feel we need to execute better. Had we been able to keep Fulgrim Chemos off Devin Saint in the last game, we're probably sitting atop the DCFL Eastern Conference right now and playing to lock the division up rather than stay in the race. It comes down to the basics against this team, if you play smart, efficient football against them, you can score on them, and you can beat them. Of course with that defense, they're going to make you earn every inch, but they can be beaten.

The Showboats defense is widely considered the best in the league, how do you plan to score on them?

(Laughs) Now how good of a coach would I be if I gave away my gameplan? I see chinks in the armor. Not to take away from them, but they're not invincible. We can and should find ways to move the ball. We almost did enough on offense last time to beat them, I don't see why we can't actually accomplish that goal this time around.

How tough do you think it will be trying to go into Memphis and get this very crucial win?

It'll be quite the challenge I think. That said, I feel we're up to it. We've earned hard fought road wins already in this league, I think we can find a way to do it again. Obviously in a game of this magnitude, you'd prefer to be in front of your home crowd and get that boost they provide, and our fans certainly provide it, but this is the latest challenge we must pass, and by far the most important to this point.

At the end of last week's game, Thurman Brinks left the field with an ankle injury, any update on his status?

No, we haven't heard anything yet from our doctors. Our fans can rest assured, though, that if he can play next week, he will. We're treating this game like a playoff game, because essentially it's our last shot at the conference.

Any predictions on the final score this week, coach?

No, I'm not in the business of prognostication, I'll leave that to you folks. I do know, though, that everyone on this team is excited for this game, they're both chomping at the bit for revenge and trying to get a step closer to achieving one of our season goals in winning the DCFL Eastern Conference, so I think we will see the best this team has to offer this week, and quite honestly, anything short of that would be a disappointment to me and a slap in the face to our fans.

From the tone of Coach Foster's interview, it seems as though the entire Raptors organization is intensely preparing for this game. Of course, we all hope that will translate into a win for the Raptors this week, as that will keep the Raptors alive in the hunt for the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference, which would give them a bye into the Eastern Conference Championship Game.

Get To Know The Attack

Part 2 of 2
By Jonathan Bossier
24 August, 2009

In one of our recurring segments, “Get to Know the Attack”, we take a closer look at one of the players of the Sacramento Attack and let you get a better idea of lives these men lead off the field. In today’s segment, we will learn about Sacramento’s heavy-hitter in the middle, inside linebacker Darius Bain. This week we will take a look at his collegiate years, and see how the raw athlete was shaped into to player we watch today.

Bain’s late physical development kept him from any serious playing time until his senior year, and most college scouts wouldn’t even come to his small town to watch him play, so there seemed to be very little hope that Darius would be able to follow his dream and get a scholarship to play football at the next level. However, just as his brothers watched out for him when he was younger, they managed to step in once again help the younger Bain sibling.

Jared Bain had received a scholarship to Grambling State University and looked to be a challenger for the starting quarterback position his sophomore year until a serious knee injury ended his playing career only three games into the season. He stayed on however as a graduate assistant and helped the coaching staff with scouting and cataloging prospect film. Jared took the film of Darius dominating the high school football field and brought it to the coaches, who offered him a scholarship without hesitation.

Darius moved in with his brother over the summer and began to prepare for the upcoming season by spending time watching game film with the older Bain. After a year as a backup, Bain started at outside linebacker his sophomore year and lead the team in tackles for loss. During his junior year, he moved inside to middle linebacker and where he took command of the defensive play calls and ended the year leading the team in both tackles and forced fumbles.

After his junior campaign, people began to take notice of the punishing hits he laid on opposing players. The no nonsense Bain worked his way onto the preseason All American lists and after another stellar season where he set the school record for total tackles and tackles for loss, also earning himself a Bednarik award in the process.

“It was a total blessing to get the opportunity to play at Grambling,” Bain stated. “The coaches and Jared helped me get comfortable from day one and helped me to refine my game and really understand the intricacies of it. I had the talent and the work ethic coming in, they helped me with the mental side of things.”

After his senior season, Darius applied for the DCFL Draft like many of the other top college prospects.

“The whole process was a little crazy,” said Bain, discussing the draft. “There were scouts contacting me all the time and coming to my practices and games to watch me play. It was like, non stop attention.”

Some thought him to be one of the top middle linebacker prospects early in the draft process, yet he managed to drop until the later rounds before being selected by the Attack. Some believe the drop was due to anger issues Bain had on the field.

“I don’t know why anyone would say that. I play hard and I play intense. It’s what I do, and its never going to change. That’s why I play football and not soccer or golf. I like to hit and I like to hit hard.” When asked about a previous incident where an opposing player had to be taken to the hospital, Bain dismissed the issue. “Like I said, I play hard. My job is to hit and that’s what I do. It’s football, not some pansy game.”

We can be sure that Darius Bain will keep on hitting, and hitting hard, as the season goes on.

Trouble in the Panda's Locker Room?
by Walter Paparazzo

Chicago, ILLINOIS - In the locker room, team mates share everything but I don't think that includes girlfriends. After the game with the Kangaroos the team went out to Enclave Night Club. Accompanying kicker Ike Stantios was his girlfriend of three months free agent kicker Seo Cho. Later that night, the Stantios walks out of the club intoxicated and gets into a cab with Cho. Two hours later team mate Elvis Jackson meets Cho at Rednofive a popular VIP after hours dance club in Chicago. After schmoozing at the club for a few hours, they both enter the same cab and returned to the same apartment and she did not leave till the next morning. At the next open practice, Stantios could not even look at Jackson. Sources within the organization has told me that there has been loud arguments in the locker room between the two DCFL stars. Neither star nor Cho has been contacted for comment.

Three Weeks Left Lets Talk Playoff Scenarios With John Baldasarro

There is three weeks left and lets take a look at the situations for each team.

Team That Are Eliminated

Pittsburgh Xplosion: At 2-9 they are on pace for the first overall pick Blame can be passed around to every player on the squad and even the owner who forced the GM to take his son as the #1 overall pick.

Honalulu Wave: There are two major reasons for the wave being out of the playoffs this season. First and foremost The defensive line is THE worst in the league. Every team has run all over the Wave every week. The other has to be placed on the coaching staff. You have to find a way to fix that. (The week 12 loss to Wyoming officially eliminating the Wave)

Teams That Have Clinched

Sacramento Attack: The Attack are being lead by Head Coach Chuck Sampson. The offense being lead by a slew of skill position players like QB Scott Wright and WR TJ Sustein *Puts finger in ear* WHAT? Sunstein?! oh right TJ Sunstein have been one of the most efficient offenses in the league. The defense isn't full of all stars but will be efficient and make enough stops to get that offense to win games for them. The Attack clinched a playoff spot because Omaha plays Las Vegas and Wyoming.

Memphis Showboats The Showboats are lead by head coach Dax Bellavia and are lead by the leagues most punishing defenses. None of the Showboats have incredible individual stats outside or Normand Jackson but the team does great job in stopping opposing offenses. The Showboats have only one loss in their conference and that was all the way back in week one against the Xplosion of all teams Thus they hold all the tie breakers in division so have clinched not only the playoffs but home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Other Playoff Scenarios:

Omaha Kangaroos:
To Make the Playoffs: The Roos clinch a playoff spot with any win on week 12 or 13 OR a Las Vegas or Wyoming loss in the last three weeks. The Roos get a first round bye if they win all of their last three games and the Attack lose two games or one win and one tie.

Wyoming Jackalopes: The Jackalopes still control their own destiny. If they win their last three games they are in. If they win more or the same amount of games than Las Vegas they are in. If Wyoming wins out they get a home game in the playoffs.

Las Vegas Outlaws: The Outlaws need a little help to make the playoffs. Vegas has to win MORE games then the Jackalopes or win out and have the Kangaroos lose out.

Indianapolis Raptors Indi would clinch a playoff spot with a win on week 12 and week 14 or any two wins and a NO loss or two NO losses.

Chicago Pandas: Chicago would clinch a playoff spot with a win on week 12 and any other week or any two wins and a NO loss or two NO losses.

New Orleans Nightmare: If the Nightmare win out they are in. If NO gets one more full win over Indi they are in.

Scott Carr Frustrated?
by Stephen Tsai of the Honolulu Advertiser

Rumblings out of Honolulu is that star MLB Scott Carr is frustrated with losing and is trying to do everything possible to rally the troops and get the defense to wins the last games of the year. He absolutely hates losing and there is rumor that his performances that past couple of weeks have been improving because he is taking his frustrations out on the field. Even still, the Wave continues to get worse, and Carr is having trouble seeing why such a talented team can't win a game. I quoted him after the last game saying, "We have the heart, we have the talent. We just can't execute on game day. I feel like we are just missing a spark. A true talent on either side of the ball to help us get over the top." It could be interesting to see what this offseason brings in. And rumor has it that Carr would not be opposed to having someone like Julio Stone in the locker room, "He's a tremendous player. Sure he's cocky, but he backs it up. I personally think he is the best WR in the DCFL, and would love to have him here on the Wave, because he is such a special talent and could bring us over the top." Let's just hope the Wave can finally start winning.

Man On A Mission

New Orleans, LA- Heading into this weeks matchup versus Memphis you'll see a certain swagger around the Nightmare practices. None for noticable then that of Roman David Sanchez. His confidence and hard work ethic has spread across the team where the Nightmare have to win out to ensure a playoff spot. That's how RDS puts it anyways. Realistically, New Orleans only need to beat the Indy Raptors to get in but don't tell RDS that. He's acting and telling everyone they have to win out and that's how they're approaching this week and the upcoming week games. Roman David Sanchez has surpassed all expectations for NO who drafted him at the end of the second round. He leads the league in sacks and is a league leader in countless other statistics. Every team that faces him tries to gameplan and account for him and very few teams have reached success. While the Nightmare are only 5-6, they are still in the playoff hunt thanks to a powerful rushing attack and a good defense led by RDS. Ask him though and he'll tell you how it's the schemes and his teammates that make him successful. "If it wasn't for DC, Rawling, AJ and the rest of them doing their job- I wouldn't be able to do mine. So to say that it's all me would be unfair. My statistics are a reflection of how well my teammates prepare and execute. I can't wait for these upcoming games so we can show the world that we most definitely are in the Championship conversation. You can quote me on that." ... and we did, RDS. He's got his eyes set on a goal and I'd hate to be anyone or any team in his way.

Tony Kornheiser: Next up, Ray Tyson, the Left Tackle for the DCFL's Wyoming Jackalopes bench pressed an amaing 700lbs! 700 pounds! Are you kidding me! When asked why if he was worried about injuring himself doing that much weight during the season, Tyson responded, "What are you talking about? That was lightweight baby!"

c1FAbsxREb4

Michael Wilbon: 700lbs!!!! Are you serious!!! WOW! That man is a beast. What an absolute animal. The U continues to breed some amazing football players. Tony, how many times do you think you could 700!?

Kornheiser: About as many times as you wax your head in a week.

Wilbon: Don't get me started on the bald jokes! Though I do question why he would try that much late season but if the guy is working hard in the weigth room why not see what you can do. The team was pumped. And Tony, did you see Cornerback Azi Kwame just over him mid lift. Those Wyoming boys were getting hyphy.

Kornheiser: Hyphy? Whats' hyphy?

Wilbon: Tony who are you, my grandpa. C'mon now.

DING! Times up.

Kornheiser: Daniel Snyder offered retired coach John Madden a 5 year 50-million contract to come of retirement to coach the his Redskins......

Tommy Lucky Resigns at DCFL Studios
Posted by Mike Florio August 28, 2009 11:50 PM ET

Normally, when a former player turned analyst resigns from his gig, it follows unfortunate comments made by that person on-air or some sort of off-air incident that became publicized.

But in the case of Tommy Lucky, it may be something much more.

We've heard rumors from a few reliable sources (but didn't post them because we couldn't confirm with any sources close to Lucky....I know, us do real journalism!?) that Lucky has kept himself in good shape during his first year of retirement, and has recently hired a personal trainer with pro football experience to help him get back into "game shape."

There are quite a few teams in the DCFL who could use an upgrade at the starting QB spot for next season. Lucky, who will be 35 when the next DCFL season opens up, played 12 seasons for the LA Bulldogs of the old NAFL, winning 3 championships, 2 MVPs and was an 8 time pro-bowl selection.

If he does enter the DCFL, he will be able to do it as a full FA and will not have to enter the draft.

Elvis Jackson Interview Brings New Insight Into Panda Locker Room and Cho Situation

Walter Santesso Paparazzo here with Chicago CB Elvis Jackson. Elvis thanks for showing up.

Elvis Jackson: Hey, it is a pleasure to be here.

Walter Paparazzo:Well lets just cut to the chase and skip the soft ball bull crap questions. The Soe Cho situation what is your side of the story.

Elvis Jackson: Ha, I knew that would come up. I think this thing is totally wrong. I would never date a friends girl. It was probably something the media didn't pick up on. I'm dating another korean superstar. She is Soe Cho's cousin and was in town.

http://www.ifsmagazine.com/archive/2007/DECEMBER/Yu_Na-Kim-062.jpg

She does look kinda like her and I mean, obviously "all asians look alike" to some media people.

Walter Paparazzo: So you are denying it? Why did she meet up with you after taking Ike home and why did she end up at your house afterward?

Elvis Jackson: Well yea I am denying it. Bros before hoes. Soe Cho was at Ike's and Yu Na, thats her name, took Ike home cause, well, you all know, Ike + evening = alcohol. You can't let some drink and drive. And well, what we did at my house...A gentleman never tells. haha. You know, what happens in Chicago stays in Chicago.

Walter Paparazzo: So what was the fight about?

Elvis Jackson: Well, I won't deny we have some problems sometimes. That's just human. He showed up drunk once at practice and well I hate things like taht, so we got in a quarrel but no harm done. The next day we were friends again. Thinks like that happen though. Funny story though, even drunk he hits FGs from 60-70 yards. It is amazing. The balls will curve as much as his way to the bathroom does, but they always make it.

Walter Paparazzo: Is this incident going to distract the team? You have a few HUGE games coming up that will decide your playoff destiny.

Elvis Jackson: No. We are all professionals. Personal problems will stay off the field. If we had something like that, we just wouldn't let it show up on gameday. Even if we were archnemesis, on gameday we are 55 brothers that fight for 1 reason. The Championship.

Walter Paparazzo: Stantinos and Cho have refused to comment on the situation if it was really nothing why would they refuse comment?

Elvis Jackson: Well, I know for a fact that Stantios, not Stantinos, is drunk out of his mind like every day so I assume he just can't comment on the situation. Cho on the other hand just doesnt like to talk english

Walter Paparazzo:Well thanks for taking the time to talk to me.

Elvis Jackson: It was good to get that cleared up.

Jackalopes fans start campaign for tight end to win MVP
http://www.midwestsportsfans.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/steve-heiden.jpg
Logan Stevens has put on quite an impressive campaign in the inaugural DCFL season. Stevens came into the season as the #1 ranked tight end and has not disappointed. He ranks top 5 in receptions and touchdowns and has only failed to score a touchdown one game so far this year. Wyoming fans have fallen in love with the 6'6 tight end and they have even begun a campaign for Stevens to win MVP. The campaign can be seen here at www.lstevens4mvp.com.

Article from GoWyoGo.com
By Colby Brown, dated November 23, 200'X'

There weren't very many Cowboys fans who took a look at the brutal five-game stretch throughout November of this year and thought to themselves, 'This will make or break our year.' The reason being Wyoming wasn't considered to remain in contention for a bowl berth, let alone the conference title, by the time that particular month rolled around.

A Holloween Night matchup at Utah started this stretch of h***, followed by Brigham Young visiting the War Memorial. From there it was the easiest matchup of the stretch at San Diego State, followed by the final home game against Texas Christian university. The Border War, taking place at Colorado State this year, was penned in as the final game for Wyoming's season, and many critics were sure this team would've been demoralized and all-but-eliminated by the time November rolled around.

Vinny DeBernardo explained this defeatist attitude.

"Coming into the season, we were a team with a new Coach, trying to start building a foundation which could endure for longer than a single recruitment stretch. Big things weren't expected of us, just baby steps. We had a very good defense, but no punch on the other side of the ball, which meant we'd have to win an awful lot of rock fights to exceed our expectations."

Exceed they have. With one game left in the season, Wyoming currently stands atop the Mountain West Conference with a dazzling 10-1 record, including an unbeaten performance within said conference. This has included shocking upsets of Utah, BYU, and TCU.

And as much as he remains hidden, DeBernardo has been a hero on all three occasions. The Utah game had been discussed in depth, but the remaining two have not... until now that is.

Brigham Young University rolled into town a mere week after Wyoming stunned the Utes, and odds favored the still euphoric Cowboys to suffer a letdown of sorts, coupled with the relentless Spread attack BYU favored.

"We shifted from the standard defenses we were running, and adopted a Nickel stance throughout that game," DeBernardo explained. "The front seven would align in either a 4-2 or 3-3. I was placed on the field as a Rover in the scheme. It's not ideal- you typically want your Rovers to be natural safeties with linebacker builds, like that Kase-Owens guy in Memphis, y'know? But I was both their hardest hitter and biggest isolation coverage liability, so they didn't really have much choice. But you can imagine I spent no time on offense due to the incresed workload."

It worked fairly well, considering BYU was frequently predicted to score 35 on a unit which hadn't allowed more than 20 all season long. DeBernardo played the Rover role at a decent clip, terrorizing opposing recievers with his shell-shocking assaults over the middle.

The score was 16-16 heading into overtime. Wyoming got the first drive and converted a Field Goal. Then came BYU's posession. They had to get a Field Goal at a minimum to stay alive. They almost slit the Cowboys' throats on their first play.

"[Dennis] Pittia, that's their Tight End," DeBernardo said. "Fantastic player, All-Conference. Everything you want in that position. Well, that play he somehow separates from coverage and finds a seam in our defense. [Max] Hall hits him virtually in stride, and he has only one player between him and the end zone. Turns out, that player was me."

DeBernardo had been laying back, playing Centerfield since BYU came out in a more 'standard' formation. The ball had barely been thrown when he came slashing for Pittia. He had the ball just long enough to be ruled a completion before the larger Tight End took a full frontal shot from DeBernardo. The resulting collision sent both players crumbling to the turf, and the ball completely dislodged. "It was recovered by one of the Gipson brothers; I could see it from my vantage point on the ground. Saved the game for us."

And the TCU game?

"It was more convential, for both the team and myself," DeBernardo remarked about the 16-7 victory. "They were the last top conference team we had left to conquer, and we had a potential Top 25 ranking riding on our performance as well. Add that it was at home and you had an electric atmosphere."

That 'electric' atmosphere had its current blocked the first time Wyoming punted... where DeBernardo committed a rare screw-up.

"Well, we knew that Jeremy Kerley was the best Return Specialist in the conference, and one of the best in the Nation, so my presence was all the more vital on this game. If I didn't shut him down, we were gonna have a hard time holding TCU in check."

"Anyway, it's a solid punt. Kerley gets it at his 16. I beat my blockers on the wing and I have a clean shot. He jukes, and I just miss. I miss!! I literally slide another five yards down the field before I can get on my feet. Kerley ends up taking it all the way to midfield before he's finally brought down, but TCU rammed the ball down our throats from there."

A 7-0 defecit in the most important matchup of the season? A horrid way to start. It was also the best lead TCU ever got after that.

"I was p*****. Completely and totally p*****. Nobody likes to be humiliated at their profession, but this was about as horrible a screwup as I could've ever had. It beats that debacle against Weber State where a long bomb riccochets off my helmet and beats me to the end zone- and at least THAT was funny!! It'd be on Youtube if the game warranted any coverage at all! This? Inexcusable."

"So, the second time I faced Kerley? I blasted his helmet right off. Third time? I may have cracked it. Fourth time? He left the field due to a concussion. Destroyed him in three tries. That was the end of their threat."

Without a dangerous return game, TCU's field position quickly became horrible, which played into the defense's hand in neutralizing the strong offense. Wyoming's offense itself was good enough to chip away with field goal after field goal until they finally took the lead at 9-7.

Fourth Quarter action saw an odd scenario during a TCU punt which helped add the icing point to the final score. As DeBernardo puts it;

"I should point out that it actually rained the day prior, as stupefying as it sounds in November. Anyway, standard punt. We have two blockers on the wing gunners the opposition provides. It does mean less guys in the middle, but these gunners are the fastest and most dangerous of tacklers. I should know. They get the punt off, the gunner me and my teammate were covering somehow slips where he stands when he tries to burst forward. My teammate is already on him and I find myself turning back and curving towards our returner to catch a stray defender in the middle."

"Instead, what I find is an opposing gunner from the other side flying towards our returner at breakneck speed, the assigned blockers nowhere in sight. So I make my move to intercept him. Pure instinct, less than a second of thought and reaction to it."

"I didn't know this until after the play, but our guy was so engrossed on the approaching ball that he didn't call for a Fair Catch- which was the thing he should've done regardless of how this play turned out. That gunner was screaming towards him and if I hadn't been there, our guy would've been flattened, possibly fumbling the ball and/or getting horribly injured in the process."

But DeBernardo WAS there. On a play so remarkable that it's been replayed on SportsCenter and ESPN ad nauseum, he streaked right in and blindsided the gunner so hard both of them were literally knocked out of the way of the returner.

"So the guy catches the punt, sees no one in front of him and a massive gap on the left side. He shoots for that gap, outruns everyone else. Takes it to the house. 16-7, total pandemonium. End of story right there."

But the season wasn't over yet. Wyoming still stands to lose the conference title should they fall short against Colorado State this week. It's a very unpleasant prospect, further fueled by the natural rivalry between the two teams.

"Colorado State is still fighting for a Bowl berth. Granted it's low level, but a bowl is a bowl and they'll grapple with all their strength to reach it. It won't be a cake walk by any means."

And after?

"Win or lose, we're getting into a Bowl, but that's not for another month. If the Jackalopes make it to the playoffs and actually host a game then, I'll definitely be getting tickets. What can I say? I'm a Homer."

Walter Santesso Paparazzo here with the one of the best pass rushers in the league and also one of the players on the players commission David Roman Sanches. David Thanks for joining us.

David Roman Sanchez: Absolutely. My pleasure.

Walter Santesso Paparazzo: David you and the Nightmare have an uphill battle to get into the playoffs but after the loss of Indi to Chicago your week 14 matchup will be your first playoff game how do you feel about that?

David Roman Sanchez: I don't feel anything different. I'm going to go into this game the same way I enter every game. I will give it my all and I will make sure the other team remembers me by the games end. When you start focusing on other things like- "If we lose then we're out of the playoff picture"- then that's when you start to make mistakes. I just look at it as a football game that I really really want to win. Which is no different from any other game.

Walter Santesso Paparazzo: David you are a member of the player's committee what does that post entail?

David Roman Sanchez: Simply helping the commissioner out with some heavy decisions. We're the jury to his judge. It's an honor

Walter Santesso Paparazzo: You had your decision with Donkey Kong Coleman was that because he is your team mate or would you make the same decision with any player?

David Roman Sanchez: I wouldn't made the same decision with any player. My reasoning was- he claimed that there was foul play. I refuse to take part in any sentencing that may not be deserving. All I wanted was a delay in the decision so we could find out some more facts. That was all.
Walter Santesso Paparazzo: Have you seen my hot girl friend? She is hot isn't she?

David Roman Sanchez: I haven't seen her since high school when she.... uhhh... No. I haven't seen her.

Walter Santesso Paparazzo:
Ok last question this one is always a fun one. If you had to have intercourse with either Bee Arthur or Rosann Barr which would you choose?

Roman David Sanchez: That's a stupid question. Bee Arthur, no doubt!

Camacho Unhappy?

http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/9105/jackolopezz.jpg

While he participated fully in practice on Thursday, it was clear that Wyoming cornerback Dwayne Camacho was not in a very good mood. Seeing Camacho sulking in the locker room, reporter Newsy Morenz was able to get to the bottom of his dispiritedness:

Jackalopes.

No, not the team that he plays for, but the fearsome critter from which the team draws its name.

"I'm just gettin fed up with all this. When am I actually gonna get to see one of these furry little guys?" asked Camacho. "I mean I see em on people's walls and on my shirt, but I'm talkin the real live thing."

Upon being asked to elaborate by a puzzled Morenz, Camacho went on to say

"I mean, I knew two things when I got drafted by the Wyoming Jackalopes. I had never been to Wyoming, and I had never seen a jackalope. I just assumed that when I got here, that I would start seeing them all over the place. But I been here a while now and I aint seen nothin. Now I got some people tellin me that they aint even real! What is that? I promised my little niece I would bring one back to Michigan for her. What am I supposed to do?"
