Brett Favre has decided to stay retired, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Beat writer Judd Zulgad "just received a phone call from Brad Childress who said he talked to Brett Favre and that he was informed that Favre is staying retired." The decision isn't as shocking as it would've been a month ago, but it's still a stunner. Favre has detested surgery ever since his battle with a painkillers addiction, but went through with a biceps operation in May anyways. It looks like the Sage Rosenfels-Tarvaris Jackson battle is back on. Jul. 28 - 4:59 pm et

I just want to say that I'm in Spain, and have been the last two months, and haven't seen a lick of Brett Favre coverage the entire time.

It's a wonderful, wonderful thing.

A Vick-Rosenfels-Jackson 3 way death match for the starting job would be tremendous.

By the way, I am not yet sure Favre is done. Cant you guys see Favre somehow still playing this year? He probably just wants to avoid camp haha.

Well, to me this just proves that Brett Favre is indeed an attention *****. Just another reason I don't respect him.

The other is for being a giant ***** for sliding to let Strahan get the sack record. Since then, I've had no respect for him.

Its still not over.... we will have to go through another 2 weeks of ESPN and NFL Network flashbacks of Bretts carrer and speculation if he will come back after training camp or next year. Buck Frett.

I am so pleased with this news. I don't care that we are going forward with Tarvaris and Sage..I am just glad I don't have to root for him. He has shown he is one of the biggest douche bags in the last couple years. So wooo..I was willing to accept him as a Viking but I will always hate him because of the years he spent in Green Bay.

I'm saying he's a douchebag because he's one of the most egotistical people in the world, and flip flops every couple days to get attention. You can't tell me that he's not full of himself.

He'll be back to "considering returning" next week once training camps open and he's no longer the top story. Can't keep this man down for long.

What a day! Now Favre tells our Mariucci that he's going to keep throwing & wonders how he'll feel about his decision in the AM. Is it over?

I agree with those that say that it isn't over. I can truthfully see him weighing his options from here to see if he can slide onto a team after camp. It will depend if anyone is interested in him....

Rich Eisen said this on twitter lol.

Such an indecisive person.

I knew it was too good to be true.

NFL Network's Scott Hanson reports that free agent Brett Favre "will continue to throw and work out" despite telling Vikings coach Brad Childress Tuesday that he wanted to stay retired.
You've got to be kidding. Favre reportedly said he's still not totally sure about whether he'll stay retired or try to play, even after "confirming" he'd re-re-retire to Childress and in an ESPN interview. Asked by Steve Mariucci how he'd feel about his decision on Wednesday morning, Favre replied "I'm wondering that myself." It wouldn't shock us one bit if Favre "gets the itch" again and tries to come back late in camp or even after the season kicks off.

There was a report that said the Vikings had moved on though...

I personally think that the Vikings should move on and really focus and give their full support to the guys that they do have. Favre is going to play this out as long as he can.

GO THE **** AWAY BRETT.

You had your shot, and you're need for constant media attention ruined that. If he comes back tommorow and says he's not sure again he is officially the biggest joke in professional sports.

We get it. You like attention. Leave us the **** alone.

They reported that the Jaguars aren't. Which is obviously. Wayne Weaver + Gene Smith BOTH going for the "character player" thang = no Vick not ever at all

I must have missed it then, because this is all I saw.

Sam Farmer of the LA Times writes on Twitter that he's hearing free agent Michael Vick signing with the Jaguars "is looking more and more real." roto

Losers

Brad Childress: This is a bitter pill to swallow for the Vikings head coach, who invested loads of man-hours into his man-crush on Favre.

There's a big reason Childress put so much of himself into the gamble this offseason — because quarterback's not just one blemish on his team that needs fixing, it's the wart that is holding back the Vikings from a Super season.

Now after all the phone calls, text messages, convoys to Mississippi — not to mention modification of a major portion of the playbook, Childress is back to square one and the Vikes are no playoff shoe-in.

Vikings fans: As if they hadn't been burned by Favre enough in the past, this episode has to be the biggest kick in the gut delivered by their long-time nemesis.

Face it, in one year's time fans in purple went from gloating over last year's Favre drama blowing up on the Packers to sporting egg on their faces now ... all thanks to dancing with No. 4.

And the Minnesota faithful had just talked themselves into accepting the idea of the "evil" Favre quarterbacking their beloved Vikings this season ... only to get bellywhopped yet again. They should have seen it coming.

Excellent purple burn Adrian. I appreciate it. Hopefully he stays retired so it stays funny.

Again, we now have the same team that we won the division with last year. Favre would have just added to an already good team.

Not sure why we have "egg on our faces." It's not like we didn't know there was a chance he was going to do this.
