Some stupid tidbits of what is going on at each camp, if you want some other website provides minute by minute happenings at the camps. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/rapid-reports/date

10:38:42 am One starting battle to keep an eye on at Vikings camp is left DE. Ray Edwards is working with the first team, but Brian Robison will provide good competition.
10:36:23 am Ravens QB John Beck threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to WR Justin Harper, who beat DB Domonique Foxworth on the play.
10:35:29 am Saints GM Mickey Loomis said while their were some discussions about possible contract extensions for WR Lance Moore , T Jammal Brown and G Jahri Evans during the summer, no deals were hammered out.

10:35:09 am Redskins QB Jason Campbell hit WR Devin Thomas with a deep crossing route but then was picked off on the next play by CB Carlos Rogers. He stepped in front of WR Santana Moss, who was running a deep out.
10:31:58 am Pro Football Hall of Famer Lenny Moore is at Ravens practice.
10:31:55 am Jeff Charleston and Anthony Hargrove will also receive some reps with the Saints ' first-team defense at defensive end.
10:29:42 am Though four-game suspensions are looming, Saints DEs Will Smith and Charles Grant will see the most action with the first-team defense during training camp. Bobby McCray and Paul Spicer should also get time with the first team.
10:29:01 am The Redskins are closing out morning practice with a non-contact, 11-on-11 scrimmage.
10:28:50 am Lions coach Jim Schwartz on team goals: "Our goals are short term. Have a good day today. Saying 8 wins or 12 wins is successful, you don't want to put constraints on the team."
10:27:26 am A heavy emphasis already is being put on special teams in Vikings camp. That unit last year gave up a league-high seven touchdowns.
10:26:39 am As the rain starts to fall at Redskins Park, LB/DE Brian Orakpo has shifted from working with the linebackers to working with the defensive ends. The hybrid Orakpo is expected to see action at both positions.
10:23:44 am Ravens QB Joe Flacco is looking sharp. He just rifled a pass over the middle to WR Demetrius Williams between LB Ray Lewis and FS Dawan Landry .
10:23:43 am Saints coach Sean Payton said RB Reggie Bush and WR Marques Colston enter training camp at 100 percent despite some offseason health issues. Also, Payton said again that the team has no interest in free-agent QB Michael Vick.
10:23:39 am On his first play under center, rookie Jets QB Mark Sanchez from USC was pressured by backup safety James Ihedigbo .
10:20:37 am The Jets' first 11-on-11 drill began with a complete pass from QB Kellen Clemens to tight end Dustin Keller on a quick sideline out.
10:20:21 am Saints coach Sean Payton said three players could be slowed by injuries going into training camp: LB Jonathan Vilma (abdomen), WR Lance Moore (shoulder ) and WR Adrian Arrington (hamstring). Vilma had minor surgery last month.
10:20:17 am Lions to run conditioning tests Saturday: "Its all about being accountable," coach Jim Schwartz said."Training camp is not the time to get in shape."
10:16:47 am Ravens WR Biren Ealy just beat DB Lardarius Webb to catch a long TD pass from QB Troy Smith .
10:16:06 am Starting Eagles WR Kevin Curtis walked back to the locker room midway through practice. He had off-season surgery for a sports hernia but hadn't missed any practice until now.
10:14:57 am Saints GM Mickey Loomis also said with the Saints being deep at corner, he didn't anticipate first-round pick CB Malcolm Jenkins becoming a starter this season anyway. Tracy Porter and Jabari Greer are the leading CB starters
10:13:36 am Kris Jenkins appears to already be in mid-season form. In a nine-on-seven drill, the 360-pound Jets nose tackle stopped RB Leon Washington dead in his tracks and then put rookie RB Shonn Greene on the ground.

10:11:05 am The Saints have wasted no time jumping into full contact drills as they open training camp this morning donning full pads.
10:09:37 am Vikings No. 1 pick WR Percy Harvin (Florida) is officially a holdout. Practice No. 1 is underway and he isn't here. The players are stretching.
10:08:40 am Saints GM Mickey Loomis said he's pessimistic that first-round pick CB Malcom Jenkins will agree to a contract in the near future. "There is no progress at all," Loomis said. Jenkins is the only player not to report to camp on time.
10:07:25 am Highlight of the Ravens' first hour: TE Todd Heap made a twisting catch to haul in a pass over the middle that was thrown behind him by QB Joe Flacco.
10:07:24 am No rookie dues to be paid by Redskins LB/DE Brian Orakpo. He is comfortably working at LB with the first defense.
10:04:06 am Donovan McNabb's first pass of Eagles practice was almost intercepted by Quintin Mikell, who dropped it when he was blind-sided by LB Chris Gocong.

10:01:29 am OG Colin Dow was released by the Bengals this morning after failing his physical. Dow was an undrafted rookie free agent from the University of Montana, and had little chance to make the team as a left guard.
9:57:06 am Ravens K Steve Hauschka went 3-for-4 kicking FGs from 20 to 40 yards. K Graham Gano went 4-for-4.
9:54:34 am Redskins QB Jason Campbell looks sharp in practice once again as the quarterbacks, running backs, and receivers are running through passing drills.
9:54:34 am Ravens QB Joe Flacco just ran the option and pitched the ball to WR Marcus Smith for a gain of seven yards.
9:47:54 am Vikings WR Coach George Stewart on the opening of camp: "We're ready to roll."
9:46:14 am Eagles fans finally had something to cheer about when WR DeSean Jackson beat DB Ellis Hobbs for a long TD during a one-on-one drill. QB Kevin Kolb threw the 60-yarder.
9:39:16 am There's a lot of speculation about whether the Patriots might sign Michael Vick. Bill Belichick had high praise for the quarterback yesterday.
9:37:00 am Redskins reserve RB Dominique Dorsey is at practice but not participating in drills today. More on the injury to follow.

9:33:54 am Kareem Brown is officially on the Jets roster as a tight end after transitioning from defensive lineman during the off-season.
9:30:56 am The crowd yelled for Redskins CB Fred Smoot as he hopped up to run the gunner drill for punt coverage. CB Carlos Rogers and safety LaRon Landry promptly drove Smoot out of bounds toward his adoring fans. In typical Smoot fashion, he laughed it off.
9:29:50 am Ravens rookie Michael Oher is playing right OT with the first-team offense.
9:25:40 am Ravens QB Joe Flacco just turned a bootleg into a 20-yard touchdown run.
9:24:56 am As the Redskins run through special teams drills, rookie CB Kevin Barnes is starting to shine after a rough start yesterday. He's the fourth CB on the depth chart and will have to showcase his skills on special teams.

9:24:29 am Finally: Ravens first team offense against first team defense, no tackling.
9:20:42 am The Redskins are stretching together.
9:17:35 am Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti is attending practice.
9:16:49 am Before Patriots practice starts today, a big question is whether Vince Wilfork will finally speak to the media and what he might say about his contract situation. He avoided the press yesterday.
9:12:45 am Rookie WR Jeremy Maclin remains unsigned and Eagles coach Andy Reid is losing patience. "You can't buy back that time," Reid said. "He's going to have to be playing a catch-up game."
9:09:01 am Six Eagles are on the physically-unable-to-perform list: OL Shawn Andrews (back), OL Jason Peters (quad spasms), CB Asante Samuel (hamstring), DT Trevor Laws (hamstring), RB Brian Westbrook (ankle) and DB Victor Abiamiri (pec strain).
9:01:35 am Ravens RBs Willis McGahee, Ray Rice and Le'Ron McClain looking sharp running through tires.
9:00:34 am Jets RB Leon Washington is on the field. He didn't report with the rest of the team yesterday. Looks like a new deal is in place or at least close.
8:56:37 am The Eagles just began their first full-squad practice of camp. It's also their first practice with full contact, so the pads will be poppin' soon.
8:54:53 am It's raining in Cortland as the Jets take the field for their first
practice of the Rex Ryan era. QB Kellen Clemens is taking snaps with
the ones while Mark Sanchez works with the twos.

8:50:52 am QB Jason Campbell on how he felt about the loud ovation he received Thursday when he entered the field: "It felt good until I saw the sign that read sign Mike Vick."

8:49:34 am The Ravens are practicing running plays against an imaginary defense.
8:48:28 am Ravens TE L.J. Smith is not practicing this morning because of a tweaked left hamstring. His leg is being wrapped in gauze by a trainer right now.
8:46:31 am As players entered the field, the loudest applause from Redskins fans was for LB/DE Brian Orakpo, a 1st-round pick who signed late last night.
8:43:13 am Ravens LB Ray Lewis has arrived at practice.
8:41:28 am Ravens G Marshal Yanda is in uniform and practicing after missing most of last season because of torn ligaments in his right knee.
8:40:58 am The sun just broke through at Redskins Park as the team trickles on to the practice field. Rain is in the forecast today.
8:28:01 am The Ravens' first of two practices today will begin shortly.
8:26:26 am The Ravens have placed WR Kelley Washington on the PUP list because he has the flu.
8:24:54 am The Ravens have signed WR Thomas White.
8:23:57 am Ravens RB Willis McGahee and G Ben Grubbs have been removed from the PUP list and are expected to practice today.
8:20:46 am The Ravens have placed All-Pro FS Ed Reed on the PUP list. Reed was hampered with a nerve impingement in his neck and shoulder last season.

Beanie Wells was carted off the field today w/ an apparent ankle injury.

ESPN news has it as breaking news but, other reports say he was smiling as he was being carted away. So hopefully, it's nothing serious.

As for the Cowboys...

Romo has been very sharp. The Romo to Williams connection is coming along very slowly. But he has been spreading the ball around very well during camp. And has shown excellent chemistry w/ Patrick Crayton and Sam Hurd, most noteably among the receivers.

Kitna has been off and on. Mostly off, sailing the ball often over guys heads and throwing behind guys. He is making throws that Brad Johnson could not make anymore, though. So really, he should be find.

Stephen Mcgee has been pretty awful. The new captain checkdown, they call him. And he keeps tucking and running in 7 on 7 and 11 on 11's. Yeah, that's a big no no. Especially in 7 on 7's, come on now. He seems really gun shy at the moment.

All the running backs have been fantastic. Barber is slimmed down a bit and quicker. Felix is healthy and is much more involved in the offense. He is even returning punts. And Choice has been extremely steady and playing great out there. He's also catching everything sent his way.

Wide receivers have been fun. Crayton spent the off-season at Michael Johnson's camp, and is noticeable faster. He's been having a great camp. Miles Austin has been very consistent, a couple of drops here and there but, he doesnt look nearly as raw anymore. And he is making plenty of catches down the field. His routes are much cleaner, he's just gotta hold onto that football. And Sam Hurd, has been the surprise of camp for most. Bigger and faster than last season, he's abusing our corners in one on one's and just keeps making plays in live action. He has caught more passes than any other receiver thus far and the dallas morning news bloggers have made note of the excellent chemistry he has with Romo. He's got Romo's trust and that is huge as he continues to battle for playing time. Really though, Romo has been doing a fine job in finding Crayton, Hurd, and Austin. I've got confidence in this group and it looks like Romo does too.

Witten has been Witten. And Martellus Bennett, has been excellent. Simply fantastic, that is. haha. He's an odd ball but, he can play the game. We're installing a lot more two TE sets and Martellus is catching everything, he's just too big and too fast for the defense. He's been a nightmare to cover. And his blocking is superb. A star in the making. Something he can improve on, though. Less dancing. I've seen several bloggers mention that instead of trying to bull over or power over a lone corner, he'll attempt to dance around him. No need for any of that, at his size. He'll learn.

Starting O-Line has been sharp as well. Leonard Davis is seeing some reps at backup LT just in case something happens to Flo, he wasnt too bad there in his limited action. Flozell has been steady and had a real solid practice today. Moving Ware out of the play, several times. Gurode has dominated everyone not named Ratliff. That's a fun battle but, Ratliff is so ridiculously quick and strong, he's just a menace. What a find Rat turned out to be. He just keeps getting better and better.

Aside from Ratliff, the rest of the line has performed pretty well. Marcus Spears is in great shape, down to about 307. He was quiet early but, has really turned it on the last few practices. Olshansky has shown a little bit more than avertized on the pass rushing front. Still I wouldnt get too excited about any of that. haha. Stephen Bowen has probably been the next best, he keeps blowing plays up. He'll be moving inside in nickel situations. I'm a big Bowen fan, I think we have something there, it's nice to see him making things happen. Marcus Dixon has been making a few things happen as well, he could make the team this year. Backup NT Junior Siavii has been up and down. Pretty steady, not that good but, not horrible. Jason Hathcer looks like he is having a realy tough time, though. Looking slow off the line and weaker since returning from off-season surgery. Hopefully, he'll get that quickness back. Not looking too good right now.

Linebackers. Ware is 5 pounds heavier and as dangerous as ever. Enough said. My fellow cowboy fans expressed some concern with Spencer but, he has been noted as having a real solid camp and he keeps getting better. Wade says he has been fantastic against the run. The young backups Victor Butler and Brandon Williams have been great. They certainly look the part of 3-4 OLB pass rushers already. Wade has been real pleased w/ their effort so far. We hear their names a lot during practice. Bradie James has been excellent, Brooking looks like an upgrade over Thomas, and Bobby Carpenter seems to have a firm grasp on the nickel LB job. Wade has been loving on Bobby, he seems to be much improved. That's great to hear but, I'm holding off judgement until i see it. Jason Williams has shown off his 4.4 speed at LB but, he's been a little timid and is learning the position slowly. The potential is evident, though. And even when he gets beat, with that speed...he finds a way to get in the right position, according to Mr. Phillips.

Secondary. Newman is Newman. Jenkins and Scandrick have been outstanding, they're not making anything easy and continue to fight for that #2 corner job. These guys are going to be stars in this league...no doubt in my mind. Only irk I have is they could both gamble a bit too much, especially in Scandrick's case but, with experience they should overcome these things. They have us all excited. Allen Ball, Courtney Brown, and rookie Mike Mickens have all been good. Sure they'll have their bad practices but, they've all been making plays. Roster longshot Hawkins was making plays before he was injured, very nice to see. Ken Hamlin hasnt made any big plays but, I havent heard anything negative either. Wade really like Gerald Sensabaugh and thinks he's better than advertised as well. Michael Hamlin, has been making play after play after play. Making acrobatic interceptions and deflections, he's going to be exciting to watch. He's also being used in a dime LB role, a position Anthony Henry excelled w/ last season. Deangelo Smith has been quiet but, I'd say that's a good thing. He's behind Crayton right now in the punt return duty race. Looks like it will be Crayton or Smith in most instances with Felix Jones getting his chance when the offense is backed up a great deal and we could bring their gunners in...giving Felix little pressure to catch the ball. This used to be Newman's deal every now and then.

And lastly kickers/punters.

Nick Folk has a little pain still but should be 100% by the start of the season. David Buehler was booming kick offs deep into the end zone...that's what we got him for and he didnt disappoint when he got his shot to kickoff. We're also exploring other ways to use him...Holder, Up Back, gunner, wedge, etc. And then there is Mat Mcbriar who is at full health. He is getting more extension than ever, there is picture from today's practice where it looks like he kicked himself in the head. lol. He's been booming 70-80 yard punts in practice. The leg is back and that video screen is going to be pelted. That could be a problem.

There, long right up. But us Cowboy fans get frequent updates on camp so we're well informed of what is going on there. I may have forgotten some, I dont know.

http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2009/08/lions_matthew_stafford_lives_u.html

In his public debut for the Detroit Lions, No. 1 draft pick Matthew Stafford had all the poise of a veteran NFL quarterback from the moment he stepped on the practice field Saturday for the official start of training camp.

No stomach butterflies?

Nah.

"I had a lot of fun out there," Stafford said after an impressive first afternoon on the job. "It was fun to get the shoulder pads back on and throw it around."

He did a lot more than that.

Stafford reaffirmed his status as the leading contender to claim the starting quarterback position for the team's Sept. 13 regular-season opener at New Orleans.

He stood head and shoulder pads above veteran Daunte Culpepper and third-year pro Drew Stanton of Michigan State in passing drills throughout the 1- hour, 40-minute practice session in front of a few hundred spectators.

He looked sharp throwing the football.

He has a much shorter, quicker release.

He has a firm grasp of the playbook, complete command of the huddle and, according to veteran center Dominic Raiola, the respect of his teammates.

"You gotta learn quick," Raiola insisted.

So far, Stafford, 21, continues to set himself apart from the competition -- just like he did in offseason workouts and during minicamp in July.

Aaron Rodgers is playing LB in the new "roadkill" package.

Scott Wells is practicing throwing the ball as he's our new emergency QB. Ironically he'll still be playing center so I don't know how he's going to snap the ball to himself.

Apparently the NFL has forced the Packers to hire a full time barber to meassure the LBs hair so that they stay within the 10" or less rule.

After watching the LBs practice, LBs coach Kevin Greene stomped off the field and later showed up in full pads - with a new 1 year contract. A.J. Hawk was informed of his release to make a roster spot for coach Greene.

UDFA rookie WR Jordan Norwood has looked really really good in Browns camp. On pace to make the team perhaps.

Browns rookies look pretty good, especially RB James Davis who could be a real steal in the 6th round. Considering how solid the OLine and RBs are, the Browns should have a pretty good running game this year if nothing else.

The energy level at Jets practice is now through the roof. Players on both sides of the ball are animated and yelling. A fakeht was just instigated by Darrelle Revis, Rob Turner and several other members of the offense and defense to try to break up the tension.

Maurice Drew has started a new trend in the Jaguars lockerroom: Beards. You aren't a real man amongst the Jags unless you're sporting one.

In other news, Jaguars rookie wide-outs Mike Thomas and especially Jarrett Dillard looked good in practice today. Thomas looked effective in the first practice session playing out of the slot, and Dillard showed the ability to create separation at will subbing in as a flanker.

Rashad Jennings continues to look VERY good.

Hell yes, Rex is loving this stuff. Bet he broke it up by his 350-pound+ self, a kickass, in your face, feisty rah-rah kind of coach is just the kind they needed. The Jets posted the 1st training camp brawl of the season, didn't even make it to 10 AM to go to Fist City:

I was drinking a lot, drank a lot of alcohol. I cut that out of my diet all the way. I don't drink at all. I cut the drinking, I stopped drinking for six months.

Awesome.

Everette Brown smoked his opponent all day, some undrafted loser nobody.

Steve Smith got out wrestled for the ball by Captain Munnerlyn who went one on one against smith quite often.

Kemo went down with an ankle injury, unknown on how bad.

Beason tweaked his hamstring, being held out more as a precaution than anything serious.

- Charles Johnson was a standout today. He may push Brayton for starting left end by the start of the season if he keeps it up.

- The defense overall looked ill prepared and rusty though, I suspect it will take much time before the players settle into it and get their muscle memories working and not thinking about the new schemes so much

- Few new defensive drills today including an interception drill I had never seen before. The players seemed to enjoy it, whooping and hollering as each group got their turn.

- It never fails, every year some young CB gets a lesson taught to him by #89. They should thank him, because he gives his best each play and expects they do the same.

- Jordan Gross still takes a leak in the woods instead of heading to the porta jon, some things never change.

- Otah seems a lot more settled in and personable this year. Fairly quiet last season, seen joking around with other linemen this season. Good sign for chemistry.

- Compared to the first day of camp last season, today there was not as much of a spark, or a sense of urgency. Hard to put into words, but the overall feeling was more laid back.

- The OL did have a rough time with some of the fast new stunts in the drills, with the DL getting to the dummy QB a few times. Man, they were fast.

- Beason seems to have settled into the leader role a bit more, rallying his guys and getting them focused between plays.

- Moose looks to be in what might be the best shape his has been in for a while. Looks like he has been hitting the training program hard this offseason.

Jets' defense gets upset when Shonn Greene keeps running once the play is "dead" instead of just giving up when hit. Love it.

Also, apparently both sides of the ball don't like their opposites working hard or playing tough football. Go Jets.

For any Clemson or James Davis fans, the 6th round running back is killing it in Browns camp.

He's gotten a lot of notice for his ability on special teams, but he looks extremely effective as a runner too.

Oakland Raiders Updates

2nd Round pick Michael Mitchell is looking good at SS. Breaking up passes and a few hard hits.

Khalif Barnes is 2nd string LT for now. He looked like he had a bad knee injury during pratice today when a DL roled into his knee. Barnes walked it off, likely out for today

Javon Walker is looking good in private workouts. He had a "secret" knee surgery that he says never had been done before

Browns coach Eric Mangini said he has plans to rotate starting QB candidates Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson during the regular season. He added that he figures on keeping them both throughout the year.

Packers rookie LB Clay Matthews is playing with the #2s after spending most of yesterday playing with the #1s. Matthews and LB Jeremy Thompson are in a competition for the starting spot.

The Browns have been moving underachieving LB Kamerion Wimbley around extensively in an attempt to maximize his pass-rushing potential. Wimbley is showing elusive moves in practice.

Packers offensive line: Tony Moll is in for LT Chad Clifton, who is on a one-a-day schedule. Rookie T.J. Lang is in at LG for Daryn Colledge. Jason Spitz is playing C and Josh Sitton is playing RG. RT is Allen Barbre.

Mangini has shown a terrible pattern of handling qb competitions. He did so in NY with Clemens and Chad, now he's doing the same nonsense in Cleveland with Andersen and Quinn.

Just have a damn qb competition, pick a winner, and have him be your qb. Don't play musical chairs with your qbs moron.

Thats his problem. He's so full of himself and the "schemes" just like every other Bellichick disciple that he forgets all about common sense. Too often for the Jets hed try to outcoach you on every play instead of doing what common sense tells you to do.

I love Toomer, but he's so washed up. He's so slow, and he can't get off the press anymore.

He's strictly a body with veteran savy at this point. Last year with him on the team, it was like we were playing 10 on 11 on offense.

Tons better than when he was at mini camp. He missed a couple of open receivers today and yesterday but still had solid practices.

There were reports in mini camp that he was throwing it at the ground on simple passes like a swing route to a running back so its a huge improvement.

Heard Javon was looking great working out on the side testing his knee out.

DHB is dropping a whole lot of balls but is very explosive in and out of his breaks so hopefully a month full of catching the ball will help with his hands.

Goodson is looking to be a great selection getting first team reps in place of stewart. He's being used a whole lot in a reggie bush / westbrook mould, swings, slots, outside pitches.

Stood up James Anderson on pass protection drills who he gives up nearly 40 pounds to.

Nick Hayden a former late rounder weighing 290 pounds is taking over for Kemoeatu. It's expect the team is going to switch to using a platoon of defensive tackles/ends in rotation like Meeks did in Indianapolis rather than trying to trade for someone.

My speculation is that eventually we'll see Brayton shifting inside a lot more to get Brown and Johnson on the field. Unless of course one of the late rounders from the last two years does something decent.

I'm in australia dude, anything I post is regurgitated from the carolinahuddle's camp goers and Darrin Gannt who's tweeting almost non-stop from camp

Mathematically it's not going to be easy
RB: Williams, Stewart, Goodson

It's not very likely they keep six backs.

How is Goodson doing in comparison?
As I posted before, not a lot between the tackles from what I'm hearing, more as a split wide/receiver guy or in pass protection, he's looking like the future Nick Goings, does everything.

Looks promising enough.

Right now, I'd put Goodson ahead of Lee since we've already got 2 RBs who can pop big runs or get the short yardage. Goodson vs Lee will be about who brings more to the table.

I agree with you that they aren't going to keep six backs. Although Goodson does give them a change of pace guy, Lee can be a great special teamer. Though obviously Goodson has the inside track considering he was a 4th round pick. Jamall's best chance is either to make the practice roster or if he shows a lot in the pre-season, he may get picked up by another team.

The first year he was a rookie wideout. We traded for Chambers because VJ wasn't ready to be a #1 receiver yet and Parker had just been lost for the year. The second year he torn his groin and actually required surgery to fix it (unlike LT). Right now Buster's still getting conditioned to play regularly again.

And yes, I agree that this may be his last chance, but I'm not ready to push the panic button yet. He's got a lot of upside and is a hard worker. Sometimes, trying to do much to prove people wrong is going to end up hurting him even more. As long as he's ready for gameday, then all of this won't matter. Besides, even if Buster is active on gameday, he's not going to get as many looks compared to Gates, VJ, and Chambers. Though I hope he's ready to take over for Chambers once he leaves after 2009.

I didnt want to make a new thread since it's likely been posted but:

The league abhors one of their pretty boys going down with an injury. Which is why there's a new rule this year - you might call it the Tom Brady rule - that forbids defensive players from "forcibly" tackling a quarterback below the knee. Instead, the league wants defensive players, if they must hit the quarterback low, to swipe at or swat the quarterback's legs. To me, that sounds a bit ticky tacky. This ain't tennis, after all. How do you judge if a swat at the legs is too forceful or just right? I asked the officials who are in town this week to explain the new rules to the 49ers that question and they said that all lower-body tackles on quarterbacks must be done with the arms or with the head and shoulders to the side.
Ah, the pussification of the NFL

I hope to go to multiple Eagles games this year. Maclin was one of my favorite players in the draft, and I just generally like the team. I may as well catch some games while I'm still able to since I go to school so close...

At Jets camp either the secondary is the best in the league or the wideouts are the worst, because apparently nobody can get open against the defensive backs. Unfortunately I think it's more the second than the first, though at least the secondary seems to be solid right now. Probably just not as good as it would seem based on the results in practice, because the WR's are terrible.

Frank Gore said he spoke with Davis after the tight end's practice scuffle Thursday forced the team to run gassers. "I told him it was his fourth year now and it shouldn't be him (fighting) now." Gore said he might expect a rookie to lose his cool. "It's his fourth year now. It's time ... it's time for him to be a man."

Gore, meanwhile, reported to camp at 214 pounds. He said his July routine didn't involve the hill running that he's done in Miami's Tropical Park in previous summers. Instead, he went back to the University of Miami where he concentrated on power cleans and stair work. As a result, he looks as strong and as crisp as he ever has in training camp.

Panthers are using sets with fullbacks split into the slot and a running back split out wide.

Methinks based on the success of Smith in a quick WR screen with a WR blocking on the inside, it could be quite a little earner if there's CBs playing off to hit Stewart in space with Hoover matched up over a nickel back.

Last year he threw for 1,000 + yards, 9TDs and only 2 INTs, 59% completion rating and a QB rating of 95 in the 5 games he started.

He's only started 17 games his entire career. He hasn't been an all world QB, but the light is starting to come on for him. Drew Brees didn't start to look like a good QB until he had around 30 games under his belt and it's widely accepted that QBs don't begin to become their true selves until they hit their third year, one could also make the argument he hasn't exactly had help at wide receiver either.

Right now, IMO, he's the best QB minnesota has on their roster and ought to beat out Rosencopter.

You say 1,000 yards like it's a good thing. Thats 117 yards per game. A 59% comppletion percentage isn't good either, not sure what you're getting at here. It's not like we are without skill position players. Obviously AD in the backfield and Berrian is a very solid wideout, and Wade/Shiancoe are servicable options.

There was no light last year. 4 of those TD's were in a fluke game against the Cardinals after they had completely mailed it in.

He's not a good decision maker, he's horribly inaccurate, and cannot read a defense to save his life.

Take it from someone who watched every minute of every game, there is a reason he was benched for Gus Frerotte. Gus freakin Frerotte.

Sage is the best QB on the roster. He's not very good but he is capable of moving the chains and hitting open receivers, something Tarvaris has proven time and time again that he can not do.

I have to disagree with ya man. Tarvaris Jackson is the best option of us and I dont even like say that. He knows the system better, He has the mobility to move in the pocket and also he knows the receivers. Although he may make terrible decisions while playing he has shown that he can get the job done with a couple games. Sage on the other hand has been a career back up who has never been able to make it as a starter and he is known for his chronic turnovers. In the end I don't trust either of them but that's what we are stuck with this year so we better just deal with it and hope for the best.

Nothing against you, but I don't understand why Vikings fans still back him. Other than short flashes of not being completely awful he has shown me nothing at all. Great athlete but he just does not have the smarts to be an NFL starting QB. Throwing into double teams, fumbles, that ******* jump pass that he does, I've just given up on him.

He may know the offense better, but that doesn't mean that he can run it well. He consistently misses open receivers and kills drives with his inability to get the ball to the open receiver.

Sage should be a backup quarterback, no doubt. But when it comes to keeping the defense honest with at least a shred of a passing game, I think Rosenfels is the guy. He completes a good % of his passes and while he does make a lot of mistakes and bad decisions, so does Jackson.

I do think T-Jack wins the job initially, but come week 5 I fully expect Rosenfels to be starting.

Brady Quinn was good in the scrimmage today and outperformed Derek Anderson, including a 50 yard TD pass to Lance Leggett (who I really like so far, hope he makes the team as the #6 WR). He was throwing with the 2nd team offense against the 2nd team defense, while DA was with the 1s vs. the 1s if that means anything.

The top 5 seem set barring injury (Edwards, Massaqoui, Robiskie, Furrey, and Cribbs in some order). If they keep six that means that Leggett only has to beat out Hubbard and Norwood and Patten. Patten I don't think makes it unless he lights it up in the preseason games b/c the vet minimum is a lot more than what those other guys make.

I think Jackson could be a good player for you guys. Sometimes it takes up to five years for a quarterback to be a decent starter. Of course we live in the fast lane now and days and no one wants to wait that long. But guys like Warren Moon, Dan Fouts, Drew Brees, and Steve McNair, it took them a few years (four or five) before they become good pocket passers. If Jackson stays healthy and works hard, he can be a good player in the NFL.

Hali now has one game under his belt at OLB in the 3-4 and I for one liked what I saw he is far from a pro bowler but he flashed at times.

From what I have heard and read Hail has been called every thing from the most improved player to the MVP of camp.

I'm not saying he is the next Demarcus Ware or any thing but so far so good for a guy that I wasn't even sure would make the team after the Chiefs went 3-4.

Another guy I have my eye on is Corey Mays a player the Chiefs brought in as a SPT but has been filling in for Zach Thomas (Hurt) and many feel he could end up keeping the job.

The Panthers are loving Mike Goodson and Captain Munnerlyn. Goodson showed how incredibly fast he is many times and will see playing time for sure this year.

Munnerlyn is actually in the hunt for the nickle, and his name wasn't called at all other than to talk about his impressive camp. The best thing for a corner is to be anonymous. He has been physical at the line and was aggressive with Smith in practice.

Dwayne Jarrett is also practicing well and is getting nods from the teammates. He was thrown to at least three times, though only one was a good throw albeit still short of the first down.

The Panthers must get a DT though.

Vasher was good when there was a consistent pass rush and he was able to control the zones and makes reads on passes. Now that the pass rush isn't what it was he's forced to play more man and stay with his receiver which he can't do. I saw all I needed to in the preseason game when he got roasted by Lee Evans on a double move and right after that Evans abused him for another first down. Plus I think his confidence is absolutely shot.

I would love to see Vash at the Nickel spot if both Bowman and Tillman are healthy but he's not a starting cornerback in this league right now.

Lovie has repeatedly called Vash out for his play in TC so far and the game against Buffalo didn't help. Yeah it was preseason but he's also fighting for his job and I would have expected him to show up in that game, instead Evans made him his *****.

it seems the Niners' D had their way with the Raiders this morning:

Nate Clements picked off a JaMarcus Russell pass in 7-on-7. But once an 11-on-11 red zone period began, things got out of control.

Clements intercepted two more passes, while Dre' Bly and rookie outside linebacker Diyral Briggs picked off a pass apiece. Russell and Raiders reserve QB Bruce Gradkowski were intercepted twice apiece during the drill.

"I was talking to Shaun and Alex and I said, 'You don't feed us like that in practice,'" said veteran cornerback Dre' Bly. "They fed us today. That buffet was good.

Bly and Nate Clements said it was the best practice either has witnessed in their combined 20 years of professional football. Briggs said it was the best practice he has seen at any level of football.

"I felt we played at a level that they could not match," Clements said.

Both Clements and Bly credited Shawntae Spencer, who had some words while being matched against Raiders rookie receiver Louis Murphy in one-on-one drills.

"A Florida guy," Bly said of Murphy. "They've got two national championships, so I guess you feel like you can dome into this league and talk. I was telling one of the guys, national championships on this level is equivalent to a high school state championship. Nobody cares. That's in the past.

"Murphy got things going, and from that point on, we just dominated practice."

...

"I felt like we played at a level that they couldn't match," Clements said.

Have you ever read the comments people post on PFT is it just me or does 90% of the people come across as assholes?

I notice that at other places as well. Truth & Rumors on SI.com or even volnation seem to have a lot of ass holes/morons. It's just a message board thing I guess. Good thing it's not bad here.

Youtube is the absolute worst for that....go to any video and there will just be something so terrible written in there I'm sure....

It usually quickly devolves into 12 year olds calling eachother *** or some religious nut getting offended....

IMDb is bad too.

I'm always lurking around IMDB. I still dont have an account there, though. Most of the forums are just like team based forums. If you say one bad thing about a movie, actor, or series on their respective pages, you're going to get flamed to hell. I was on a tv series one the other day. One of those rate this episode threads. Everyone gave it 10/10 until one guy throws out a 7/10. They destroyed that guy. lol.

As for my favorite team's forums. I hate going to them. Everyone who posts are either major homers or the type of fan that always bashes their own team. There is no in between. gah. The majority also seem to be illinformed morons as well. Especially on those Cowboys boards.

He's the best QB on the roster, so it makes sense.

When the Jets drafted Clemens in '06, in the 2nd round, I thought he was going to be good for them. So much for that. They still drafted Nick Mangold, Leon Washington and D'Brickashaw Ferguson that year.

Poor leadership in Denver. The entire practice should have came to a screeching halt as soon as he started acting like that. McDaniels should be froth-mouthed screaming in his face. The entire team should be staring at him like he's a punk. The only way for him to realize he's acting like a baby is for those around him to hold a mirror up to his face. He should be running sprints until he pukes or gtfo. The whole thing needs to be addressed immediately as it's happening. Be a man or get off the field is really all they need to say. No way should that behavior pass on even a pee-wee team. I put the whole thing on McDaniels. He's a joke of a leader.

I tend to agree, but I see two benefits of letting it continue:

1. McDaniels is now emboldened to handle Marshall however he sees fit, the players won't have a problem with it. It's one thing to want to be traded, but taking a dump all over your teammates like that who are working hard to have a good season? Screw him.

2. They now have clear and ample grounds to suspend him without pay, for conduct detrimental to the team. Good.

From what I read was that he was tearing it up during the OTA's but struggled when training camp started. Here's a little blurb on him.:

One official close to the Dolphins front office said Wake has been ordinary, and is no cinch to make the roster. Don't misunderstand: The Dolphins still have hopes Wake -- a highly skilled athlete -- can be good, but he must show it in camp.

One Dolphins person warned not to underestimate Walden's value as a core special-teams player. If Miami keeps nine linebackers, that would leave room, hypothetically, for Wake, Walden and Anderson. Otherwise, one of those three probably would not make the team.
