Thought I'd start a new thread for training camp/pre-season discussion, and then we'll start a final topic for regular season discussion!

Starting us off, some news about some injuries. WRs Tim Carter and Brooks Foster have sustained injuries that could keep them out two weeks or so. Also, Marc Bulger banged his pinky finger in practice and is in line for an x-ray, though it does not sound serious.

WRs Carter & Foster news:

Just saw it on ESPN, Bulger is out a couple of weeks apparently. Its alright, we are still more than a couple weeks before the real season starts.

With Bulger out and Berlin banged up, Boller and Null are going to get a lot of snaps.

Is there any other QB in camp?

Nope. I imagine all three will get some good time on Friday. Null needs to be looked at further IMO, because he has shown some flashes in camp.

Ahman Green has nothing left.

Bring in Marvin Harrison, let him work with our young WR. At least he might have something left, Ahman Green wouldn't do anything for us.

No team has even tried out Marvin Harrison. That should tell you something.

Bring in Warrick Dunn.

Blah that's disappointing. Guess you can count out this year. No way he sees much (if any) of the Field now.

-TE Joe Klopfenstein among the players cut by the Rams (http://www.stltoday.com/blogzone/around-the-horns/around-the-horns/2009/09/former-2nd-rounder-klopfenstein-among-early-rams-cuts/#comment-8689)

Tye Hill bust that sucks Joe Klopfenstein I always like because he went to Colorado, but he was a 2nd round pick and a bust as well, sucks that our picks didn't pan out like we all hoped

I must say I'm not at all suprised by Klopfenstein getting cut. He just never showed anything. He was constantly getting pushed around while blocking and never became a receiving threat. As for Hill, I didn't expect him to get traded but definitely thought this was his last chance in St. Louis.

So, how sweet is that 2006 draft class looking now? We could have had Jay Cutler, Haloti Ngata, Chad Greenway, Santonio Holmes, DeMeco Ryans, or any number of other good young players............but nah, we'll go with Tye "Which way should I face?" Hill. At least in the second round we only missed out on Marcus McNeil, Greg Jennings, Anthony Fasano, Devin Hester, Tony Scheffler, Maurice Jones-Drew, and several other good young guys. But do not fret, the Rams still have Adeyanju and Setterstrom from that draft class........splendid.

lol we could of had Antonio Cromartie over Tye Hill.

Oh well, no sense in looking at past drafts and seeing how horrible the Rams have done. I don't look at things in my past and think what I should of done differently. I just move forward.

I love what Spags is doing, get rid of that dead weight. Who cares if yyour a 1st round pick or an Undrafted Free Agent, if your good your going to play, if your not, take a seat. Love hearing Gary Gibson may start over Adam Carriker.

If we're playing the "What could have been?" game, I'd rather the Rams have stayed put and taken Ngata.

Yeah, that's the guy that really stuck out to me as someone that I wish they'd taken. Even at the time I liked the idea of getting him. Oh well, what's done is done.

great win vs. Cheifs Defense steped up and has played very well in the pre season which is good because it seems to be the missing link to a winning team, hopefully our starters can stay healthy and play up to the level we all can expect from him, week 1 Seattle let's get it done RAMS

Carriker could be out for the year. In Thursday's game he suffered a right shoulder injury that will require surgery. It certainly hurts to lose anyone to injury, but Carriker was looking less and less likely to be an impact player. The depth is hurt, but I wouldn't be surprised iff Gibson is better.

NGSeiler

It's a shame, really. He really just can't seem to hold up, and now that he's seemingly reinjured a previous shoulder injury, you wonder what kind of future he's going to have as a leverage player in the trenches. I guess the Rams can throw him on IR and see how he recovers and what contributions he can make next season, but I think the days of counting on him as being part of a Rams starting line-up have officially died.

EDIT: According to the Rams' official website's Twitter account, "Spagnuolo unsure as of now on whether Carriker will need surgery. The shoulder is not the one Carriker previously had fixed." So different shoulder, but still.

Big day for the Tigers today. They looked real good. I wasn't worried about Gabbert at all, it was the D I worried about. Thankfully they appear to be worlds better than last season.

WR Nate Jones & LB Quinton Culberson were both cut so that the Rams could make room for S Anthony Smith and DL LaJuan Ramsey, both claimed off waivers. The Rams are now currently only carrying four wide receivers.

I just checked your website and it says Darby is taking kickoffs, should I trust that?

I don't think Stanley returned a single kickoff during the preseason, so I wouldn't count on him to do it in the regular season.

The Rams have cut LB Chris Draft, per Twitter.

Strange timing.

EDIT: Rams have resigned LB Quinton Culberson, so that gives them five active LBs on the roster (six when Larry Grant is healthy again).

Hmm, that is out of left field. I'm willing to let this new regime do whatever they want at this point, so it's fine by me.

so does mean our linebacking core looks like Will Witherspoon, James Laurinaitis, Chris Chamberlain?

If so I'm happy because when we drafted James I hoped that would be our LB's to start the 09 season

NGSeiler
09-10-2009, 06:38 PM
Starting LBs for Week One appear to be Witherspoon, Laurinaitis, and Vobora. When Grant returns from injury, he'll probably be in the mix at SSLB.

Apparently the Rams asked Draft to take a paycut and he refused, and thus was cut. It's a strange story. Details here:
