The always volatile Oakland Raiders are now fighting amongst themselves -- in the coaching ranks, no less.

According to a report Monday on the Web site National Football Post, Raiders defensive assistant Randy Hanson was punched in the jaw by another member of the team's coaching staff during an Aug. 5 altercation at Oakland's training camp headquarters at the Napa Valley Marriott.

Multiple NFL and Raiders sources have confirmed the victim of the alleged assault was Hanson, a third-year assistant who is in his first season with the team under the title "assistant coach-defense." Two NFL sources have told FanHouse the attacker was Raiders' first-year head coach Tom Cable, and "that Hanson never saw it coming."

Neither Hanson nor the coach who threw the punch were identified in a Napa, Calif., police report taken Aug. 6 at Queen of the Valley Hospital. But one well-placed NFL source told FanHouse of the attacker: "It's a well-known coach. Very well-known."

Pressed to confirm the identity of the attacker, the source said, "It was Cable who hit him."

According to Napa Police Lt. Brian McGovern, police followed procedure in responding to the downtown Napa hospital when Hanson arrived to receive treatment for what was described as an injured jaw.

X-rays were taken. The results are not known, although one NFL source told FanHouse Hanson sustained a fractured jaw as a result of the punch.

Funny how the guy who looks like he lacks class, really doesn't.

he's got to be getting paid off something at least.

Hanson told police the alleged assault took place at the Raiders' training camp site the day before, but he refused to name the attacker, which is hindering a police investigation into whether misdemeanor or even felony assault charges may be filed. A jaw fracture could warrant felony charges.

Cable: Now Hansen, what are you going to say when people ask about your jaw?

Hansen: (Sobbing) I fell.....

Used to be the Raiders had tough guys on the field now they're reduced to fights with the coaching staff. I love it.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/08/17/cables-attack-on-hansen-might-not-be-an-internal-matter/

Per PFT, even if the assistant doesn't press charges, Cable could still be fined or suspended according to the Personal Conduct Policy. That'd be kind of awkward...I think it would be the first Coach I've heard of that being applied to.

IMO This is the sort of stuff that should be handled by the owners and not the league.

Then again I suppose if players are subject to ze commandant, er, commissioner, so should the coaches.

This is what you call being old school. Bill Parcells yanked Todd Haley in the neck back in 05-06 for badmouthing an official and complaining too much about a call and look what happens......Haley gets a OC gig in Zona and does well there and now is the head coach of the Chiefs.

Randy Hanson there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Cable was just humbling you.

Yeah I remember when that happened. I thought it was pretty funny how Bill just hit him like he was in the backseat of a car. Parcells parenting FTW!

actually the story is that cable flipped the little punk out of his chair and he broke his jaw on the counter. Nobody likes this little *****, already being critical of the defensive coordinator after the first preseason game. Hanson is a well known Al Davis disciple and is the same guy who Kiffin suspended last year for 'insubordination' ... Hanson was critical of kiffins coaching against the broncons in the first game of the season last year, even though he should have been being critical of DeAngelo Hall and Rob Ryan. I dont think kiffin could have done anything about the terrible defensive effort. This guy deserved it, im glad hes not around the team anymore.

Hahaha...yes, oh yes....hahaha....OMG! So Raiderish right there....yes. Infinite lolz....

Best parts:

Cable "is definitely" responsible for the injury, and that Cable "had to be pulled off of [Hanson] two times."

"Cable knocked Hanson out of his chair and up against the wall and into a cabinet. Cable and Hanson fell to the floor, where Hanson was choked, . . . and Cable was pulled off Hanson by the other men before Cable went after Hanson again."

Cable went all Andrew Jackson on him...nice.

So ******* bizarre...I love it though, lmao

I'm loving it too. Even Lions fans are saying "Hey, at least we aren't the Raiders." From hiring an offensive coordinator that was running a bed and breakfest, to drafting speed over polish, and having your head coach try to kill one of his staff members. You just can't make this stuff up.
