My thought exactaly. And how is Vick 2nd. He hasnt played in 2 years and now he is the 2nd best backup in the league?

I know it's easy to hate on VY, but what exactly have Matt Flynn, Jim Sorgi, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Dan Orlovsky done on the field that Young hasn't done?

Well one of them is a god and one of them had a safety without being touched.

come on. David Carr isn't THAT bad. Like really? Did you see that leap he had against Carolina?!?

Batch was always top 3 on these lists. I gues breaking your collarbone makes you a terrible QB after that?

Yea, David Carr is much better than most of the guys ahead of him.

Isn't Kevin O'Connell the 2nd string QB for the Pats?

Obviously a much better player than Vince Young and Matt Leinart.

I didn't know Andrew Walter was in New England.. Could he be in a better spot right now?

Seneca Wallace sucks. How is he that high on the list? I wished the Seahawks moved him to WR.

they will, once they realize the greatness that is Mike Teel.

he's teh real best backup. Him and Andre' Woodson

Isn't Kevin O'Connell the 2nd string QB for the Pats?

He very likely will be. I'd rather SI rank a guy that has played for a while in the NFL than take a wild stab at a guy that hasn't at all.

That shows just how difficult ranking backup QBs is.How do you rank young guys that have barely played, if at all. Veternans that haven't played for a while. Its a crapshot, no one can come up with a good analysis because of lack of info.

Seneca Wallace sucks. How is he that high on the list? I wished the Seahawks moved him to WR.

Passing Pct. Yds TD/INT RTG
Wallace 58.3 1532 11-3 87.0

Matt Flynn is ahead of Luke McCown... Why?

Matt Flynn is ahead of Luke McCown... Why?

His name came out of the hat first.

After picking the top ones and the worst it wouldn't surprise me if thats what he did. Alex Smith being better than McCown is more perplexing. With Flynn you could make the justification that something you don't know could be better than something you think is crappy, its stupid for a 7th rounder but it has logic behind it. Alex Smith is just dreadful.

McCown should be much higher, he's a medicore QB and the guys lots of those guys are dreadful.

charlie batch should be #2, he is actually legit.

drowe
08-24-2009, 02:19 PM
really. if ya started at #29 and flipped the list completely upside down (putting boller, brunell and carr on top), it would make just as much sense. ah well. i applaud the effort. seems like they do this every year. part of me wants to make a try at a list like this. most of me realizes i'd lose interest very quickly and just wast a half hour of my time.

haha Well you can tell Don Banks was bored when he wrote that... He probably tried naming all the back up QB's in the league and thats just the order he remembered them in

I would agree with eh most of this list. Except

Vick way to high IMO.
Matt Leinart and Vince Young too low. Sorgi WAY too high.
Charlie Batch way too low.
I would have Colt Brennin (sp?) #3 on Washington on the list.
DA is too low as well considering he might be starting.

Gay Ork Wang

Volek is a good backup who even played good in playoff games. Troy Smith has yet to start a game, so yea i can see that

locseti
08-24-2009, 09:20 PM
Wow, VY way too low. I've always thought that the perfect backup is a mobile QB, typically completely different from the starter, so the different style of play will make the defense adjust. Plus they can make something happen, turn a game around with their ability, it should be Garcia, Vick, Seneca, VY, T Smith.

What exactly has Troy Smith done so far? Volek and Simms have at least been decent starters at some point in their careers, and Henne was the far better prospect and has been developing in a perfect situation for a young QB.

Better question is how is this even a list. Who the hell spends time on something like this? Somone with too much time on their hands, that's who.

Seneca Wallace sucks. How is he that high on the list? I wished the Seahawks moved him to WR.

I dont think you saw him play at all last year, throwing to practice squad receivers, with 5 backups blocking for him and the amazing combo of Morris/Jones/Duckett running the football.

I can only imagine cap figures factored into the rankings.

Really though, just another case of Internet journalism gone bad. Like a listener is a listener with shock jocks on the air waves, a hit is a hit on the Internet whether the reader thinks the content is ******** or not, and typically controversial/questionable stuff is going to attract more traffic, because people like to read stuff and think (or in this case, know) they can do better. Good writing simply isn't rewarded on the web.
