Steelers Mock Draft
V3

The Steelers will trade their first rounder (15th overall) and their 4th rounder (115th overall) to the Bucs for both their second rounder’s (35th and 64th overall), their third rounder (68th overall) and their forth rounder (98th overall). This leaves the Steelers with no first round pick but gives them two extra picks and a bunch of day 1 picks.
Pittsburgh gives,
1. (15)- 1,050 points
4. (115)- 64 points
Tampa Bay gives,
2. (35)- 550 points
2. (64)- 270 points
3. (68)- 250 points
4. (98)- 108 points

The deal works out to be 1,114 points for 1,178 points based on the trade value chart.

Second Round 35th Overall
Lawrence Timmons, OLB, Florida State
http://i.a.cnn.net/si/2006/sioncampus/07/24/college/p1_timmons.jpg
Had Spencer her originally but if Timmons slips only two picks out of the first the Steelers grab him. Highly athletic fierce OLB who can bring youth and adrenaline back into the defense. With Porter gone to the Dolphins Timmons could immediately step in and fill the void.

Second Round 46th Overall
Ben Grubbs, OG, Auburn
http://graphics.fansonly.com/schools/aub/graphics/aub-program-wsu.jpg
It kills me to pass on my boy Michael Bush but on a need bases Grubbs is a strong pick. He really impressed me in senior bowl practice on NFL N when he was doing drills. Also Mike Mayock of NFL N mentioned that Grubbs was coming to practice early and working one on one with coaches to improve. I love that attitude. He is quick enough to play right tackle at an NFL level.

Second Round 64th Overall
Quentin Moses, DE, Georgia
http://onlineathens.com/images/082105/21204_512.jpg
Shows mad potential and is very quick off the line. Was highly touted as a junior but tailed off his senior season. Can be a menacing pass rusher in either scheme. A 3-4 outside linebacker or best case a 4-3 defensive end by adding a few pounds. Shows great pursuit and has great athletic ability. Our line is full of run stuffers and when we switch to the 4-3 we need a pass rusher. Moses is just that.

Third Round 68th Overall
Brian Leonard, RB, Rutgers
http://images.usatoday.com/sports/_photos/2006/09/27/leonard.jpg
Slides just like Michael Robinson did last year because he wants to play a position scouts don’t want him too. A great gritty runner who was one of the most reliable runners in college football last season. He’s not a one trick pony either; his trademark move is the hurdle where he can get incredibly high for a man of his stature. A great back to split carries with Parker and we can always use him as a full back. If we use him as a fullback every so often defenses wont know who is running the ball. Very intriguing as a goal line formation. He played on a surprise Rutgers team and was the team leader. He has great character and work ethic, that alone will have a positive impact on the team.

Third Round 77th Overall
Manuel Ramirez, OG, Texas Tech
http://www.redraiders.com/b.football/2006/players/images/p_06_184_ramirez.jpg
When describing this guy the first word that comes to mind is power. At the combine put up the top mark by benching 225 pounds 40 times. He also led his team with a bench press of 550 pounds. Plays with that power and is real physical, always seems to get good leverage. Is quicker than most expect and lead by example at Texas Tech. His ideal fit is with a run oriented team where he can dominate. A match made in heaven. Simmons is out, Ramirez is ready now.

Forth Round 98th Overall
Anthony Waters, LB, Clemson
http://media.scout.com/Media/Image/25/252772.jpg
Just outside the 3rd round the Steelers get a player who because of injury is still here. With Farrior aging it’s a great time to mold Waters before he takes over. He will need time to be groomed for the NFL and sitting behind Farrior while playing special teams should be just what the doctor ordered. He’s a big, strong playmaker who has a Porter like intimidation factor when on the field. As a junior he was all over the field. Bishop could also be picked here but I prefer Waters.

Forth Round 115th Overall
Paul Williams, WR, Fresno State
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c22/mdgcfb/williamsgipson.jpg
Physical guy who plays bigger than he is with great speed. I like to say he has power speed because he looks like a running freight train. When he has the ball he plays reckless and goes on a rampage. As much as I like Nate Washington he isn’t as physical as I’d like. When Ward retires we are assured to have a physical possession receiver who can break one.

Fifth Round 146th Overall
Antonio Johnson, DT, Mississippi State
http://vmedia.rivals.com/IMAGES/Player/photo/JOHNSON_ANTONIO-H150.JPG
We kick off day two with a physical freak, no need to mince words. Johnson has everything you look for physically, a 6’3, 310 beast of a man with intense power. He’s rawer than steak at a slaughterhouse but if our coaches can mold this kid we have Frankenstein.

Sixth Round 177th Overall
Nathan Bennett, OG, Clemson
http://media.scout.com/Media/Image/25/259641.jpg
A depth move here, add a lineman and let him compete in training camp. Has shown signs of a good guard but may be limited in his ability. He’s good but really has never been any better.

Seventh Round 208th Overall
Paul Thompson, WR/QB, Oklahoma
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/img/10-06/1004ou.jpg
A former quarterback playing receiver for the Steelers, pretty far fetched I know. Versatile guy who is actually quite a good receiver. He’s a big bodied guy at 6’3 and five eights, 216 pounds. I think the Steelers need a bigger guy for Ben throw the ball to. Also we get a guy who can be implemented on trick plays. Make sure to get him in camp by selecting him.

i liked timmons until he came in at 6foot and didnt run specatularly... he isnt an ideal 3 - 4 pass rusher for us, he is more ofa 4 -3 WILL backer, i just dont think he is a good fit for us in our current system

Second Round 46th Overall
Ben Grubbs, OG, Auburn

right now this is a good pick, but i have a feeling we sign one of the two guards we brought in, thus actually giving us good depth at our line position

i really like moses, despite his recent fall, i think this is a great value pick and i think he can be pretty special on the next level if he gets his outa his ass

i dont like this pick if you stay with grubbs, if we sign our potential linemen now, and not get grubbs then i really like this pick.. he can learn for about 3 years and then take over

yeah i like this pick, especially if he can make the team and catch the ball consistently

i dont know why u have us picking 3 guards one will suffice, especially bennet who can play g/c

yeah waters is pretty good pick here, hopefully he can overcome his injury and return to 100%

yeah good physical talent but i doubt he is here at this pick,

This is a sick mock. I like the idea of completley trading outa ther first. I seriously love every single pick. Great draft. Explainations were sick. Mkhop put above we took too many guards but Ben Grubbs can move to right tackle. Man Ram can play RG immediatly and Bennent gives us better depth. Love it all around. Great mock.

I don't like quentin moses. I just cant justify a pick on a guy who has serious questions about his motivation and work ethic. You need serious dedication to the game if you want to make it in the NFL and succeed, and I dont know if he has it.

Its the last pick in the second round. For a guy who has first round talent and versatility its a great choice. Many players have had "senioritis", Moses is one of those players.

I'd be happy with that draft.

Senioritis is one thing (something i'm very familiar with), but I'd prefer a guy who plays with a high motor all the time as opposed to one who only does it when he chooses, like a Plaxico Burress.
